00:00Just like the typhoon Ondoy and the typhoon Habagat in 2012,
00:05it was experienced again in Metro Manila and other places.
00:08But how much rain was caused by the typhoon Habagat and the typhoon Carina?
00:14Let's find out in the story of Rod Lagusan.
00:18After the continuous rain, many places were flooded in Metro Manila and other places,
00:25some of which were not flooded before.
00:28The situation is not new, especially in the past few years,
00:31many parts of Metro Manila have been flooded several times.
00:35That's why it can't be avoided to compare it to the typhoon Ondoy in 2009.
00:40The typhoon that was experienced today was caused by the typhoon Habagat and the typhoon Carina.
00:45According to Assistant Weather Services Chief Chris Perez,
00:49based on their monitor from July 19 to July 24 in Science Garden in Quezon City,
00:54the monthly normal rainfall here exceeded that.
00:57While other parts of the country experienced heavy to intense rains in the past one to two days.
01:04If we compare the typhoon Habagat, we compare it with another typhoon Habagat episode
01:08of almost the same, similar nature of how the typhoon changed.
01:12And this can be compared to the typhoon Habagat that changed the wind of the typhoon in 2012.
01:17It was faster to pour water with the current typhoon Habagat episode as with the previous 2012 episode.
01:26It was faster to pour water in terms of a shorter duration.
01:31But in terms of amount of rain, compared with the 72-hour period of the 2012 typhoon Habagat,
01:38in our comparison yesterday, they were not far away from the rain that was poured.
01:44According to Weather Specialist Benison J. Estareja,
01:48the typhoon Ondoy had a direct effect on Metro Manila compared to the typhoon Carina that was close to Taiwan.
01:54It is important to look at how long it took for a particular amount of heavy rain to reach.
02:01Because at that time, it only took three hours for the typhoon to reach 300 millimeters.
02:05The typhoon Habagat 2012, it took 22 hours or almost a whole day for the typhoon to reach 300 millimeters.
02:13But it also had a huge impact.
02:15But the typhoon Habagat 2024, it took 8 hours for it to reach 300 millimeters.
02:21So if we think about it, the effect of the typhoon Ondoy was more abrupt.
02:26Based on the forecast, the amount of rain reached 455 millimeters
02:31within one day that was poured by the typhoon Ondoy.
02:34Meanwhile, when it comes to the forecast for the rest of the year,
02:38The last part of every year is also the usual time of the year wherein the tropical cyclone activity is more active,
02:44the typhoon hits us harder, and more typhoons pass through our country.
02:50And even if the typhoon Habagat is over,
02:53if there is a typhoon during the rainy season,
02:55there is a possibility that a high amount of rainfall will occur.
