00:00But the biggest news for us is the rights fees that are going to the National Basketball Association in this battle between TNT and essentially Amazon Prime, and it looks like the winner of this indeed is going to be Amazon.
00:21Now, let's be clear, next season, the NBA will remain on Turner, but after that, it's headed over to Amazon and NBC.
00:31I probably should have put NBC first because they make such a big deal about it yesterday, playing the old music from the NBA, getting us back excited for the way it used to be.
00:39I got to tell you, make no mistake about it, Amazon Prime is going to have a huge, huge footprint in this.
00:44It is $1.8 billion a year to continue the longtime relationship with the league, and unfortunately for them, it is going over now to NBC.
00:54The media rights deals were approved.
00:56The league's board of governors last week will bring the league about $76 billion over 11 years.
01:02Warner did match, but either way, it doesn't make a difference at this point.
01:07Their proposal is going over to Amazon and NBC, and so therefore, the long-term agreement goes to the streaming option, and essentially, the reason why the NBA decided to do this is because they felt that streaming is the way to go.
01:22Cord cutting is the way to go as well, and you see the statement from the NBA as well there, which essentially is telling you all you need to know.
01:31Right now, Warner Brothers' discovery most recent proposal did not match the terms of Amazon Prime's video offer, and therefore, we have entered into a long-term arrangement with Amazon.
01:42So get ready for NBA on NBC again, but get more ready to have streaming options on your Amazon Prime devices, and just like we are streaming, they are streaming as well, probably the better choice for them as well.
01:55WNBA, not to be outdone, announced their new deal, 11-year media rights deal on Wednesday featuring partnerships with Disney, Amazon Prime, of course, and also NBC Universal.
02:04The deal is valued at about $2.2 billion, $200 million per year.
02:08This is according to ESPN.
02:10Future agreements, additional partners could bring the deal closer to $3 billion.
02:15What does that mean?
02:16It means that some other entities could broadcast games outside of that individual deal.
02:22It's the same thing that Major League Baseball has, as you know.
02:24It's the same thing the NFL has, where sometimes these games air on other places like Peacock and Apple, et cetera.
02:30All right, so that's the very latest in media rights deals.
02:32Hopefully, you got that.
02:34Now on to soccer.
02:35What a crazy finish yesterday.
02:37You're not going to see this, I don't think, ever again.
02:39Morocco and Argentina, fans got crazy.
02:42There was a game-time goal between Argentina and Morocco that essentially was overturned.
02:49They had to go back on the pitch and play it out again.
02:52Incredible finish yesterday.
02:54But basically, they nullified Argentina's game-time goal, and fans did not like to see that.
02:59And I'm sure sports bettors who had a draw did not like to see that as well.
03:03No draw in the cards for Team USA.
03:06They got spanked yesterday by France, 3-0.
03:09They'll play Saturday against New Zealand.
03:12But, you know, there's no question at this point, Team USA is just overmatched, unfortunately.
03:16Young kids playing, maybe for the future, but hopefully they beat New Zealand, but we'll see.
03:21Another player has withdrawn from the Olympics due to a wrist injury.
03:26Holger Ruin has withdrawn from the Paris Olympics.
03:31They said on Wednesday he's 21 years old, he's ranked 16th in the world.
03:35He made his Olympics debut in Paris, saying that he was sorry that he's not being able to play in the Olympics.
03:41He was looking forward to it, but he is out, and he's not the only one.
03:44We'll get to that in a minute.
03:45Andy Murray has also withdrawn from the singles competition in the Olympics.
03:49He'll play doubles.
03:50It's the final event of his career.
03:51Of course, he announced his retirement.
03:53Three-time Grand Slam champion.
03:55He says he'll retire after the Games.
03:57Final singles match of his career ends up being against Jordan Thompson.
04:00He was forced to leave with a back injury, unfortunately.
04:03Also in tennis, another player has been pulled out of the Olympics, Yannick Sinner.
04:07He is out because of tonsillitis.
04:09He's a really good player, but that means that Jokovic-Alcaraz could be the matchup to get the gold.
04:15And they just faced off in Wimbledon.
04:17So they're the top-seeded men.
04:19Sinner is 22 years old.
04:20Doctor advised him he should sit out the summer Games because of tonsillitis.
04:24So they're dropping like flies, unfortunately, at the Olympics.
04:26Not so much for Kevin Durant for Team USA in basketball.
04:30Durant practiced Wednesday, and Steve Kerr says there'll be a big collaboration, that's the quote,
04:35and determining whether or not he will make his debut for Team USA this weekend.
04:40We'll see what ends up happening here.
04:42They say the plan is for him to get a scrimmage in, and if he looks good, that he could potentially play against Serbia.
04:47We'll preview that game with Carla Gay of Sporting News coming up in just a few minutes.
04:50Also, an animal rights group named PETA, I'm sure you've heard of them,
04:54they've demanded that the IOC remove equestrian sports from the Olympics
04:58after six-time medalist Charlotte Duarden was provisionally suspended for mistreating a horse
05:04in leaked videos days before Paris in 2024.
05:08PETA says the video shows why the IOC must drop the sport from future games.
05:14Let's go over to Major League Baseball.
05:16The Subway Series, not one, not two, not three, but four, go in favor, wow, of the New York Mets.
05:21They end up clobbering the Yankees in the set.
05:24The Yankees, unfortunately, have been one of the worst teams in baseball over the last month and a half
05:28and are falling to the point where they're very fortunate that the Orioles have been beat around by the Marlins
05:33over the last couple of days.
05:34So the Yankees are still staying in East contention, very much in playoff contention,
05:38but obviously Aaron Boone, the manager of the Yankees, says they gotta play a lot better.
05:43I'm not defining. That's it.
05:47We gotta play better, okay?
05:50We have it right in front of us.
05:52We're a really good team that has played of late.
05:55We need to be better.
05:57I'm not gonna define stretch this or that.
06:00We gotta go win, right?
06:03And we're right there.
06:05You know, we're watching, you know, other teams struggle around us.
06:09We know we gotta be better, okay?
06:12We gotta, you know, we're pissed off in there.
06:15We got a lot of pride in there.
06:16We have a lot of expectation in there.
06:19So stretch, slump, recent, I don't give a . . .
06:24We gotta play better the rest of the way, and it's right there.
06:28I've said it's right in front of us. It is.
06:30It's right in front of us.
06:32Pressure seems to finally be getting to Aaron Boone.
06:35Doesn't very often. Seems like maybe getting there.
06:37We'll see.
06:38All right, well, the Boston Red Sox, pressure's getting to them a little bit.
06:41They're falling hard since the All-Star break.
06:43The Rockies scored 20 runs yesterday on the Boston Red Sox.
06:48Incredible performance from the Rockies.
06:50Not all that surprising.
06:51They've done it before, especially at Coors Field.
06:54Although there was some good news for the Boston Red Sox yesterday,
06:57as Alex Cora, who was set to become a free agent manager at the end of the season,
07:01has signed a contract extension for three years.
07:04Cora, the stabilizing force in the Red Sox, dug out despite changes in personnel
07:10and changes in general manager and president, et cetera.
07:14Cora is going to stay around.
07:16Meanwhile, he is back.
07:18Clayton Kershaw is on the mound today at home against the San Francisco Giants.
07:23He makes his debut on the season ahead of Chavez Ravine,
07:2685 to 100 pitches for Kershaw, probably five innings as he makes his way back.
07:31He's missed the entire season.
07:33He hasn't played, but naturally, after 17 years, he gets to call his shots,
07:36just like Roger Clemens did with the Yankees and Houston Astros.
07:39This feels very similar.
07:40Kershaw probably will just keep playing half seasons
07:42and try to win a World Series again with L.A.
07:46This afternoon, we've got baseball action set to go off.
07:49It's camp day around the country, so noon Eastern starts in some places.
07:53The Nationals will take on the Padres.
07:55The total is 8 1⁄2.
07:57San Diego playing very good baseball lately.
07:59They are favored, minus 165 on the money line.
08:03Also, an announcement yesterday from Major League Baseball,
08:06the network has decided to open up purchasing their broadcast stream directly.
08:12They have a brand-new plan for under $10.
08:14You can subscribe right now to Major League Baseball Network.
08:18We'll talk about this with Simon Applebaum on the show tomorrow.
