00:00In Venezuela, the electoral silence is in place after the candidates closed their campaigns
00:13ahead of the presidential elections that will take place on July 28th.
00:21In Cuba, thousands of people of all ages gathered in the heart of Sancti Spiritus in the place
00:26that was once the scene of the bravery act of defiance.
00:30The Moncada barracks dressed up to commemorate the 71st anniversary of this historic event.
00:39And in the United States, Hollywood video game actors announced that they would go on
00:44strike over concerns about artificial intelligence.
00:53Hello and welcome to From the South.
00:54My name is Belén de los Santos, I'm from the TeleServe studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:58We begin with the news.
01:12In Venezuela, the electoral ban came into force ahead of July 28th elections, marking
01:16the closing of the presidential candidates' campaigns.
01:20In this context, authorities of the Ministry of Defense and Interior Relations, Justice
01:24and Peace, established a series of mandatory measures for compliance with the electoral
01:28exercise.
01:30The actions to be held starting on Friday include a dry law and the prohibition of
01:34carrying weapons, as well as celebrating political acts and gatherings, all implemented with
01:39the purpose of protecting the citizens.
01:42For their part, the National Electoral Council began the process to install the polling stations
01:47in the 30,000 voting centers set up throughout the national territory.
01:56And in this context, we go now live to our special envoy in Caracas, Yunus Soner, as
02:02the electoral silo is already in place in Venezuela.
02:05Hello, Yunus, tell us where you are and what is the latest.
02:10Hello, good afternoon from Petare in the city of Caracas, the capital of Venezuela.
02:19The process towards the presidential elections on July 28th is entering its final stage.
02:25The prohibition of campaigning has already started, so the rallies are all finished.
02:31The candidates have all held their speeches.
02:34From today on, no campaigning is permitted anymore.
02:39No gatherings, public gatherings are allowed.
02:42The sale of alcoholic drinks is also prohibited.
02:46We are now in Arrocha, in one of the electoral centers here in Petare.
02:52We have eight ballots established here in this center.
02:56This is one of the 15,000 electoral centers all over the country.
03:01Today the process of establishing the tables has been completed and we had here testimonies
03:10and witnesses of political parties.
03:13Now we have one here, please join me, from the table of democratic unity, a representative
03:23who has witnessed today how the ballots were established.
03:28How was the process today, what do you observe?
03:30Well, so far we have noticed a process that was carried out in the most normal way possible.
03:36There was no news about it.
03:41The voting tables were covered in the vast majority.
03:46However, as with any process, there are always tables in which the members do not arrive
03:53completely and we have to draw lots between one and the other tables.
03:57We have to be able to cover the process of what would be, in this case, the installation
04:01of the electoral tables.
04:02However, we could not conclude that, in general terms, the process has been quite fluid so
04:08far.
04:09So, the representative for one oppositional movement, the table of democratic unity says
04:17all has been managed here according to the rules, according to the normal procedure.
04:22They have been here witnessing how the ballots, how the ballot boxes were established.
04:27He says there were some problems on their side with organizing the witnesses and representatives
04:34at each ballot, but they are working on that.
04:37But he again reiterates that the establishment of the electoral center and the establishment
04:43of the mechanism of ballot boxes, their connection and so forth, has been according to rule and
04:50has been a very controlled and well-managed process.
04:54We have here another representative.
05:09We have here José Antonio Rodríguez, who is a representative for the United Socialist
05:15Party of Venezuela, that is, the party that proposes the candidacy of Nicolás Maduro.
05:22And he is also a member of social movements, he says.
05:45So, he says that, he has more to say, obviously, I will have to translate this.
06:01He says, today, among all the representatives, there was a big harmony.
06:06Everyone is working together for the democracy that is working here in Venezuela since several
06:13years, thanks to the Bolivarian revolution, he says.
06:17So, he confirms that it is a day of harmony and cooperation among the different witnesses
06:23of political parties.
06:43So, he calls the citizens to follow the example of the political representatives here at the
07:09who have displayed a great harmony and cooperation.
07:12And he calls the citizens to go voting, to go voting, to cast their votes, to choose
07:18whoever they want to choose, which candidate they want to be the president of the country
07:24and emphasizes that this process should be done peacefully and in harmony.
07:30He emphasizes that citizens and, of course, every political movement here in the country
07:35should, once the election process is concluded, respect, of course, the results that are going
07:41to be announced by the National Election Council.
07:45So, both representatives of the political parties, one from the government, one from
07:50the opposition, they confirm, first, everything is going according to procedure and law here,
07:56it's going in normal ways, it's going in harmony, both emphasize there is harmony among
08:02different political parties represented here and things are developing quite well.
08:08Generally, in the country, this is what we can confirm from the news that we get from
08:12different parts of the country, Venezuela is preparing in peace and tranquility towards
08:18the elections on July 28th, the campaign has finished, now the last preparations are being
08:24taken, the armed forces are also present here at this election center in Arcocha, as they
08:30are in others over all the country.
08:33We know that more than 300,000 soldiers have been deployed to safeguard the security election
08:40centers, this is a normal process that takes place every time there is an election, it
08:46is called the Republican plan, so here in Petare, in Arcocha, we see harmony even between
08:52candidates that are of competing, opposing sides at this election center, they are working
08:58together to ensure a peaceful and working election process.
09:03Thank you, Yunus, it's great hearing from you and also from the people as they peacefully
09:09await for the presidentials.
09:11We'll be back to you throughout the day.
09:17That was Yunus Soner from Caracas as he and Venezuelans are waiting for the presidential
09:24elections that are taking place on Sunday, this coming Sunday, and we continue on topic
09:29as in an exclusive interview for Telesur, the Attorney General Tarek William Saab from
09:34Venezuela assured that the country will have a peaceful vote after overcoming the destabilization
09:40attempts from the far right.
09:42Let's listen.
09:44People know what is going to happen, what is going to happen in Venezuela, a peaceful
09:52vote.
09:53We see that they planned from January to July that there will be a violence, that the climate
09:58would escalate.
09:59We had to detain people from the Brasalete Blanco operation, a military operation to
10:04attack birds in Tachira.
10:06Then they were going to attack the paramaconic birds in Monagas.
10:11Even two gunmen were arrested on the Aguilar Avenue at the moment that President Nicolás
10:16Maduro has just registered to generate chaos.
10:20We would arrive at the electoral campaign in July in a climate of anarchy.
10:24It didn't happen.
10:28Let's take now a short break, but remember you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English
10:32where you will find news in different formats, news updates and much more.

11:09Welcome back to From the South.
11:11In Cuba, thousands of people of all ages gathered in the heart of the city of Sancti Spiritus
11:16and also in the place that was once the scene of an act of bravery and defiance.
11:21The Mancada barracks dressed up to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the historic event.
11:27The fortress gathers this Friday once again the Cuban citizens in a day full of symbolism
11:33and reflection with the heroic legacy of the brave revolutionaries who dared to defeat
11:38the regime.
11:40The survivors of the assault are in front of the barracks to listen to the words of
11:46this will evoke the bravery and courage of the revolutionaries who, as the Cuban people
11:52do today with the criminals of the North, stood up against tyranny.
12:04Also in other news, in the United States, Hollywood video game actors announced that
12:08they will go on strike over concerns about artificial intelligence.
12:13The strike, the second called by video game dubbing and motion capture actors under the
12:18Screen Actors Guild, American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, begins on Friday.
12:24The move comes after nearly two years of negotiations with video game giants, including divisions
12:30of Activision, Warner Bros. and Walt Disney Co. over a new interactive media agreement.
12:38SAG-AFTRA negotiators say progress has been made on wages and job security in the video
12:43game agreement, but the two sides remain divided over the regulations of generative artificial
12:49intelligence.
12:54We've announced a strike on our video game contract.
12:58And as of 12.01 a.m. tomorrow, work will stop on all affected titles for all members of
13:06this union until we are able to receive a counter from our bargaining group that gives
13:12us the AI protections specifically that we need to move forward safely in our work.
13:18We now move on to other topics.
13:36On Thursday, in the United States, the Vice President of the Nation, Kamala Harris, after
13:40a meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stressed that there is
13:45a hopeful movement to achieve a peace agreement in Gaza.
14:15Islamophobia and hate of any kind.
14:20And let us work to unite our country.
14:23I thank you.
14:29Meanwhile, demonstrators in the United States gathered near the White House to reject the
14:33compromise between Joe Biden's government and Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
14:39and demand an end to the Israeli occupation army's genocide war against the Palestinian
14:44people in the Gaza Strip.
14:46It is worth noting that mobilizations nationwide reject the Israeli Prime Minister's visit
14:51to the United States, in addition to demand the arrest of Netanyahu for committing war
14:56crimes, while denouncing that the U.S. government's supply of arms to the Tel Aviv regime is a
15:02key factor.

17:01passage of Typhoon Gaomi, while schools and offices in several cities were closed and
17:06stock market operations were suspended by government decree.
17:09According to the Meteorological Service, Gaomi registered sustained winds of 190 km per hour,
17:16as it advanced towards Taiwan, which makes it the strongest typhoon to make landfall
17:23in eight years.
17:29And also on Thursday, the tourist-desperate town lost an important area as wildfires continue
17:35to ravage Canada.
17:36Canada suffers a devastating heat wave at the moment.
17:39Although firefighters have been battling the blaze for hours, they have not been able to
17:44prevent the loss of hundreds of acres.
17:46The fire emergency has been in effect since Wednesday noon, and firefighters are working
17:51hard to keep the area under control.
17:53British Columbia and Alberta, Canada's two westernmost provinces, are facing a wave of
18:00high temperatures that has led to hundreds of wildfires.
