00:43Hello and welcome from the south, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from De La Silla Studios in
00:47Havana, Cuba.
00:48We begin with the news, Venezuelan Vice President Leslie Rodriguez confirmed that the former
00:53presidential candidate of the Venezuelan far-right, Edmundo González Utrutia, had left the country
00:58for Spain, but the government of Venezuela granted him a safe passage.
01:02Through Telegram, she announced that on September 7th, opposition citizen Edmundo González
01:06Utrutia, who has been a volunteer refugee in the embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in
01:11Caracas for several days, had left the country and requested political asylum from that government.
01:16She then added that once the pertinent contacts between both governments had taken place,
01:21the facts of the case had been met and in compliance with international legality, Venezuela
01:25has granted due safe conduct for the sake of the tranquility and political peace of
01:30the country.
01:31Finally, she highlighted that this conduct reaffirms the respect for the law that has
01:35prevailed in the actions of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in the international
01:39community.
01:45Foreign Minister of Venezuela Iván Gil announced that the former right-wing candidate González
01:50was taking refuge in the embassy of the Netherlands during the violent events that took place
01:54in the country after the presidential elections of last July 28th.
02:00Mr. González Utrutia took refuge in the embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands one day after
02:05the elections.
02:07That is to say, his plan was never an electoral issue.
02:10Similarly, regarding the statements made by the Dutch foreign minister, the Venezuelan
02:15foreign minister pointed out that the former far-right candidate Edmundo González had
02:19told the government of the Netherlands of his intention to leave the country.
02:26Not only did he enter the embassy and ask for guest status, but he asked to leave the
02:32country and told the government of the Netherlands, who confirms it in this communication of his
02:38own free will, Mr. González Urrutia wanted to leave the country.
02:44Moving on to other news, Colombia created the first education system of Latin America
02:49that preserves the identity of indigenous peoples.
02:51This system preserves ancestral knowledge, strengthens cultural identity and promotes
02:56respect for the traditions of the native communities.
02:59The Organization of Indigenous Peoples of the Colombian Amazon announced on September
03:037th the creation of the first indigenous education system in the region.
03:07The Minister of Education, Daniel Rojas MedellĂn, signed the act in which he committed the ministers
03:12of the national government involved in the effort to launch the program to sign the decree
03:16law.
03:17The minister emphasized that three decades after the proclamation of the 1991 constitution,
03:22it is the government of Gustavo Petro that signs the act formalizing the first indigenous
03:27education system of Latin America.
03:34And the National Electoral Council of Honduras called on political parties and citizens to
03:38participate in the upcoming primary elections to be held on March 9th, 2025.
03:43The president of the National Electoral Council, Ana Paula Holt-Garcia, together with the other
03:47members of the council expressed that this call formally marks the beginning of the electoral
03:52process.
03:53She also stated that the primaries will allow the election of three presidential nominees,
03:5720 deputies to the Central American Parliament, 128 congressmen and 298 mayors.
04:03Previously, the National Congress unanimously approved a special budget of nearly $60 million
04:09to guarantee the 2025 primary and general elections.
04:16Honduras is going through difficult times and everything indicates that the context
04:28of the elections will be complex.
04:31In a polarized country where political adversaries make accusations against each other that,
04:38with or without reason, generate an undesirable atmosphere of doubt and tension.
04:45Winning elections in this context is a challenge to be assumed with determination, courage
04:51and the spirit of country.
04:54As a member of the plenary that will be sworn in the next few days, I am aware of our enormous
05:00responsibility of the balances and the equilibrium that the three of us must necessarily build
05:08for the sake of the trustworthiness of the process.
05:12Let's now take a short break but remember you can join us on TikTok at Telesol English

05:24We'll be right back, stay with us.
05:41Welcome back.
05:47The United Commissions of Constitutional Affairs and Legislative Studies of the Mexican Senate
05:52approved this September the resolution of the reform to judicial power.
05:56After six hours of debate, the resolution received 25 votes in favor and 12 against.
06:01The reform was promoted by President Andres Manuel LĂłpez Obrador and seeks to have judges
06:06matter of the ministers elected by popular vote.
06:09The project has generated strong resistance because it would completely modify the judicial
06:13power.
06:14It establishes that ministers of the Supreme Court, members of the Council of the Federal
06:18Judiciary, magistrates of the Federal Electoral Tribunal and district judges would be appointed
06:23in open elections.
06:24The following step is to the resolution to be discussed in the full Senate.
06:36Everything is more expensive than not having justice.
06:40Because that is the mandate given to us by the people.
06:43Everything else, not having justice, having 98% impunity costs this country billions of
06:49pesos.
06:51That is why it is necessary that we take risks, that we are not afraid of the people.
06:56We have to do something, we have to break the wall of impunity and nepotism that exists
07:00in the judiciary, and we have to do it decisively.
07:05And the popular election of judges and magistrates is about that, that we break that wall in
07:10which a few families, half of the judiciary, are family members.
07:15And one says well, it's okay if they are professionals who have made the career.
07:20Yes it does happen.
07:21Because, how does the magistrate who appointed the judge rebuke them?
07:26How does he or she rebuke them?
07:28How does he or she do judicial discipline?
07:31That is why the reform is very important and has very interesting things that we have to
07:35carry out.
07:50The government of Vietnam reported that 46 citizens lost their lives due to the heavy
07:54rains caused by Typhoon Yagi in the north of the country.
07:57In this context, meteorological authorities informed that at least 22 civilians are still
08:01missing amid landslides and floods triggered by the weather phenomenon.
08:05In addition, thousands of homes and businesses reported power outages, while several roads
08:10flooded and many telecommunication networks were interrupted.
08:14Although Typhoon Yagi has downgraded to a tropical depression, meteorological authorities
08:18warn of continued rainfall, flooding, and landslides.
08:27An out-of-control wildfire in Los Angeles in the United States forced hundreds of residents
08:33to evacuate their homes amid a heatwave sweeping the metropolitan area.
08:37The fire started on Thursday in the San Bernardino National Forest.
08:41Since then, the fire has spread and as of Sunday, some 70 square kilometers of grass
08:46and chaparral had been burned.
08:49California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency on Saturday night and
08:54evacuation orders were issued in the communities of Running Springs, Arrow Bear Lake, as well
08:59as warnings of possible evacuations in other areas.
09:02Six hundred firefighters, assisted by helicopters, were deployed to combat the blaze, and at
09:07least three personnel were injured during the efforts.
09:14In our news, in Nigeria, a fuel tanker exploded after colliding with a truck carrying passengers
09:19and cattle in another Niger state killing at least 52 people.
09:24In this context, a spokesman for the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim
09:28Hosseini, said the victims were given a mass burial following Sunday's early morning
09:33accident and explosion.
09:35The official added that two other vehicles, a crane and a pickup van, were also involved
09:40in the incident, where more than 50 cattle were also burned alive.
09:45Fatal truck accidents are frequent along the major roads in Nigeria, primarily due to the
09:49lack of an efficient railway system to transport cargo.
09:58And in Algeria, President Abdelmajid Tebboune was re-elected with 94.65 percent of the votes.
10:05The National Independent Authority for Elections reported a 48 percent turnout.
10:10The electoral authority added that the candidate for the Movement of Society for Peace obtained
10:153.17 percent of the votes, while the candidate for the Socialist Forces Front obtained 2.16
10:21percent.
10:23The National Electoral Authority highlighted that the voting took place peacefully and
10:27with complete normality.
10:30I'm really pleased with Tebboune's victory.
10:36Long live Tebboune.
10:39We're so happy.
10:41You can't imagine how happy we are.
10:44Our people are happy.
10:46We got this result in accordance with the law.
10:49No one can say that this is a stolen vote or that it is not fair.
10:55Meanwhile in Russia, the leader of the ruling United Russia Party, Dmitry Medvedev, highlighted
11:00the celebration of regional elections in 83 federal entities, which began on Friday, September
11:056, and concluded on Sunday, September 8.
11:08Through his social media, Medvedev stated that, in total, 3,500 mandates were contested
11:14in an organized way, with staff in accordance with Russian laws.
11:19Local media reports informed that almost 4,000 election campaigns were held.
11:24Furthermore, direct elections were held in 21 regions for top executive positions, while
11:29in four other regions, governors were elected by local parliaments.
12:00On Monday, during his visit to Timor-Leste, Pope Francis addressed the nation's youth
12:06abuse scandal involving clergy members.
12:08The Catholic-majority nation has been shocked in recent years by several child sexual assault
12:14cases perpetrated by clergymen.
12:16Recent cases include that of Nobel-winning Bishop Carlos Jiménez Bello, who the Vatican
12:21secretly punished over allegations he sexually abused young children for decades.
12:26In another prominent case, U.S. priest Richard Daschbach was found guilty in 2021 of abusing
12:32orphaned disadvantaged girls and sentenced to 12 years in prison.
12:37In this context, the Pontiff, who is set to host a huge mass on Tuesday, expected to draw
12:42more than half the country's population called upon the nation to act responsibly to prevent
12:47abuses.
12:48And let us not forget so many children and adolescents whose dignity has been wounded.
13:01This phenomenon is flourishing all over the world.
13:05We are all called upon to act responsibly to prevent all kinds of abuse and to guarantee
13:09a serene growth for our young people.
13:39Welcome back.
13:52In Syria, the number of victims of an Israeli attack in the vicinity of Masyaf city in the
13:56western Hama countryside rose to 57.
13:59According to the authorities, 14 civilians were killed after the Tel Aviv aggression,
14:03while 43 others were wounded, six of whom are in a hospital in critical condition.
14:09The Syrian Ministry of Defense reported that these air attacks, executed by Israeli fighter
14:14jets, caused a fire in the Nahir Abbas area, where firefighting teams are working to control
14:19it.
14:20According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, these attacks have been the most violent
14:24in recent years.
14:25On the other hand, Israel has not yet issued a statement on the matter.
14:51Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip took the lives of at least 10 people on Monday, as
14:55the genocide reached its 339th day.
14:58A series of Israeli airstrikes hit homes in Al-Bureij and Al-Nusraat refugee camps in
15:03central Gaza, killing seven Palestinians and injuring several more.
15:07In this context, family members gathered outside the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Bala
15:12to bid farewell to their loved ones who were killed during the day.
15:15According to health authorities, at least 40,972 people have been killed by Israel since
15:21October 7th.
15:27Palestinian authorities denounced that more than 630,000 students in the Gaza Strip will
15:32not be able to return to schools this Monday due to the Israeli siege, while the new academic
15:37year 2024-2025 began on Monday in the occupied West Bank.
15:41The schooling of the Gazan students has been disrupted for the second year, as at least
15:4658,000 students were expected to enter the first grade in September.
15:50On the contrary, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry, more than 25,000 children
15:55have been killed or injured in Israeli attacks since last October 7th.
15:59In addition, most of the schools to 200 UNRWA schools in Gaza were turned into shelters
16:05for the displaced, and 70% of them were bombed.
16:08In total, about 90% of the 307 public school buildings have been destroyed.
16:17And in Jordan, hundreds of people demonstrated in solidarity with the Palestinian people
16:21and to condemn the crimes of the Israeli regime in Gaza and occupied West Bank.
16:27Crowded demonstrations marched through the streets of Amman, the capital of the country,
16:31to condemn the genocide perpetrated by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territories.
16:35During the protests, they set fire to an Israeli flag and chanted slogans against the Zionist
16:45regime.
16:47And in Pakistan, thousands of people demonstrated in Islamabad to demand the release of former
16:52Prime Minister Imran Khan.
16:54This way, supporters of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf party marched from different parts of the
16:59country to converge on the streets of the country's capital.
17:03The local government had blockaded the main entry points to the city with cargo containers
17:08and riot police deployed.
17:10However, protesters continued their march and demanded that Khan be released.
17:15Supporters allege that the former Prime Minister, who was imprisoned more than a year ago, was
17:19victim of a campaign of persecution aimed at removing him from the electoral race.
17:33Your leader will not bend nor will allow you to bend.
17:37He does politics for you and fights for your rights.
17:41He will soon be out of jail.
17:44Mr. Imran Khan will once again be with us and will be the Prime Minister of this country.
17:51We are here today to raise the voice against the poor people who are suffering, who are
17:59suffering with gas bills, electricity bills, and who cannot send their little small children
18:05to the school.
18:06And also, the main reason of our coming here to this get-together is to bring our leader
18:13dead back.
18:16Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez started his official four-day visit to China, during
18:20which he will meet with Chinese leaders to discuss issues of mutual interest.
18:24This way, Sánchez, who is accompanied by his foreign minister and trade secretary,
18:28met with President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Lin Kiang, and the country's top legislator,
18:33Zhao Leiji.
18:34According to China's foreign ministry, it's hoped that Sánchez's visit will help bilateral
18:40relations deepen mutual trust, address global challenges through high-quality cooperation,
18:45and add new dimensions to China's partnership with the European nation.
18:49In this context, it is worth highlighting that the current visit is Spanish leaders'
18:53second trip to the Asian country in less than two years.
19:01The purpose of my visit, President Xi, is to further deepen our bilateral relations
19:06on the basis of mutual respect and mutual recognition.
19:11And I am therefore pleased that today we have signed very important agreements in multiple
19:16areas, agreements that reaffirm our bilateral commitment to work together in green development,
19:22in trade, in bilateral investment, in initiatives for the promotion of culture, education and
19:28scientific research.
19:30In addition, the Spanish Prime Minister stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations
19:35between China and Europe, giving their key role in the world's geopolitics.
19:41That is why I am particularly interested that during this meeting, we can address the dramatic
19:46situation in some of the countries of Europe such as Ukraine, but also in Palestine.
19:53The respect for international law and the principles enshrined in the UN Charter must
19:57be our aim.
19:59President Xi, China plays a central role in the world and Europe does too, and Spain wants
20:05to work constructively so that relations between the two regions are closer, richer
20:10and more balanced, as I believe that this will benefit and prosper our societies.
20:30Paris ends its first edition as host of the Paralympic Games this September 8th with the
20:35accomplishments and also points to be improved in terms of inclusion for diversity and mobility
20:40in the city.
20:41Although the French capital was a symbol of progress in most aspects of the event, the
20:45lack of access for inclusive mobility in the city was also exposed.
20:49China and the United States once again showed their power in the medal standings and competed
20:54for first place along with the United Kingdom.
