00:00Ballet Philippines is set to launch its 55th season
00:03through the first ever staging of La Silfie this month of August.
00:09And to talk about that, we will have with us now
00:13the president and founder of Ballet Philippines,
00:16Ma'am Kathleen Lichtenstein.
00:18Good morning and welcome to Rise and Shine Philippines.
00:25Ma'am, I think you're on mute.
00:27You might want to tick in the unmute button.
00:34Okay, go ahead ma'am.
00:37One more time.
00:39Just press the audio button, ma'am.
00:45Yes, good morning, ma'am.
00:58Oh, La Silfie is our gala night for our 55th season.
01:06It's all about, it's a romantic ballet.
01:17And it's a classic rendition of a story
01:21of a man and a woman who are supposed to get married.
01:31And then, the same day that they were going to get married,
01:38he saw a self, a man who was a flirt.
01:45And that became a problem in his life.
01:48And he really followed him.
01:51And his lover got angry, of course.
01:56And that's it, he married someone else.
01:59It's a simple one.
02:01Really, it's a romantic ballet.
02:04It's also very relatable to the situation of lovers.
02:10Very interesting story, ma'am.
02:12Who are the people in charge of this production?
02:18Or the behind-the-scenes?
02:22Our artistic director, Martin Martino, choreographed this.
02:28And he got, of course, the original music of Herman.
02:33And our core dancers, principal dancers, are the lead stars.
02:41Of course, Jamama Reyes, Ian.
02:44There's Rudolph.
02:46There's also Regina.
02:48And we're going to show on August 9 at 8 o'clock at the Saler.
02:57And we have also matinee shows on Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.
03:03and at 7 p.m., evening shows.
03:07All right.
03:10This is the first ever staging of Ballet Philippines
03:13in the last 55 years.
03:16Of existence in Ballet Philippines.
03:18Why is it only now that it's possible to remove the lasso?
03:25It's certain, you know, it takes a lot of training for the dancers.
03:31And for instance, this dance, it's going to be very ethereal, very light,
03:38very, you know, as always.
03:41It really needs technique.
03:50Very, very high, intense.
03:55Even, we even train for cardio on this.
03:59For our dancers to become stronger in their dancing.
04:11Footwork, this needs a lot of footwork.
04:15This is the first ballet, actually, in the whole world to use toe points.
04:20They call it ballet shoes.
04:22Because they need footwork here.
04:26And it makes them, you know, there are movements that makes them fly.
04:32But really, you don't need a machine for that.
04:35It's just, what is the technique, how they make their flying.
04:43It looks like intense training and technique is needed for this stage, right?
04:49Since it's the 55th season of Ballet Philippines,
04:53Ma'am Kathleen, aside from here in La Sylphide,
04:57are there other stages that you will do?
04:59And if there are, what are those?
05:01We have also for Christmas, I'm inviting all of you,
05:07to watch Peter Pan.
05:09We're going to have that for our Christmas celebration.
05:11For the whole family.
05:13And of course, you know, Peter Pan is a very happy story of Lost Boys and Wendy and all.
05:23But it's not going to be a Disney one.
05:25It's going to be the original story.
05:28And our last season ender, our last show for the season ender,
05:34is Ang Panaginip.
05:36Another Filipina new ballet that will even involve the 17 regions of the Filipinos.
05:44The Philippines.
05:46Alright.
05:48So you have to watch out for those.
05:50Alright, Ma'am Kathleen.
05:52Of course, we mentioned that Ballet Philippines is already 55 years old.
05:57Maybe to inspire others,
05:59to encourage more people to love ballet.
06:03Although we understand that it's a high culture for others,
06:05and it can also be loved by the masses.
06:07What is the secret?
06:09Why did your organization last for 55 years?
06:11Tell us about it.
06:15Actually, they say that ballet is too elitist.
06:21Although, you know, it's really about culture.
06:26It's about the dance of the Filipinas.
06:28And I think Ballet Philippines existed and survived all the 55 years.
06:32It's because of what they relate to,
06:34what our audiences need.
06:38For instance,
06:40what I'm saying is that
06:42we have filipina offerings
06:44and it's always with new ones.
06:46And to reach out also to our youth,
06:50we do have a lot of outreach programs
06:55not just because you have money
06:57and you can watch.
06:59No, this is offered to,
07:01I think for the past years,
07:03we have offered this to more than 10,000
07:05of our youth,
07:07of our street kids,
07:09even the adults
07:11who wants to join.
07:13We have an outreach program
07:15that also even reach out to our indigenous children
07:17all around the Philippines
07:19that we teach them ballet.
07:21At the same time,
07:24we teach them their culture of dance.
07:28So it's really entwining
07:30and I think that's the reason why
07:32Ballet Philippines is still here
07:34until now,
07:3655 years of being
07:38entertaining, educating,
07:40inspiring and aspiring
07:42Filipinos to watch.
07:44Alright, Ma'am, lastly,
07:46how can we get tickets
07:48to watch?
07:50You can buy your tickets
07:53at Ticket World,
07:55you can also go to the theater
07:57at the Laird Barks office

08:13projects.
