00:00Meanwhile, some of the possible candidates for the Senate have already passed,
00:05while others are under the Alliance for a New Philippines.
00:08This is also based on the recommendation of the law department of COMELEC.
00:12Who are they? Let's find out in the report of Louisa Erizue.
00:20A few months before the ballot printing for the 2025 elections,
00:25COMELEC released the first list of those who have passed and are eligible to be candidates for the Senate.
00:34As of COMELEC, out of the 183 candidates submitted by their COC,
00:3966 names were selected as possible official candidates.
00:44The recommendation of the law department is to include 66 legitimate valid candidates
00:50who can be included in the official list of those who can be candidates for the 2025 National and Local Elections.
00:58Based on the list of COMELEC,
01:00some of those who have passed and are eligible to be candidates for the Senate
01:04are those endorsed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
01:08who are under the Alliance for a New Philippines.
01:13Among them are the former DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos,
01:17boxing champ and former Senator Manny Pacquiao,
01:20re-electionist Francis Tolentino who is in the Federal Party of the Philippines.
01:24Also included are Makati City Mayor Abby Binay,
01:27re-electionist Sinalito Lapid,
01:30Hito Soto,
01:31and guest candidate Panfilo Lacson in the Nationalist People's Coalition.
01:35Also included in the list are
01:37Sinapia Cayetano,
01:38Camille Villar,
01:39and re-electionist Senator Aimee Marcos who is a member of the Nationalista Party.
01:44Also included are the names of
01:46Representative Erwin Tulfo
01:48and re-electionist Senator Bong Revilla
01:50from the Lakas CMD.
01:52Also included in the list are
01:54the former allies of the former administration,
01:57the entire slate of the Makabayan Coalition
02:00led by Representative Franz Castro.
02:02Also included in the list are
02:04Manivela Chairman Marval Buena.
02:07COMELEC said that of the 117 names
02:10that are not yet included in the list,
02:13they will be asked to explain one by one
02:15before they are declared a nuisance candidate.
02:18We did not include the 117
02:20because they need to undergo a formal process
02:25to know if they should be declared a nuisance or not.
02:29But in the meantime,
02:30these 66 are included in the list that will be printed in the ballot.
02:37The due process still needs to be given.
02:40The 117 out of the 183 Senatorial Aspirants
02:47will be asked to explain why they should not be declared a nuisance candidate.
02:53COMELEC also explained that
02:55their main focus in filing the names
02:58is the political history,
02:59if there are supporters,
03:01and if there is a political party.
03:03COMELEC also clarified that
03:04they did not look at the financial status
03:06of a desired candidate.
03:08We did not disqualify because of poverty,
03:11because they do not have money.
03:12From what we read initially,
03:15of the 66,
03:16you can see that this is a mix of individuals
03:20who could be incumbent,
03:22could be independent.
03:24There are political parties,
03:25but I don't know them.
03:26Labor leaders, lawyers, doctors,
03:29we included all of them here.
03:31The Commission on Elections assured that
03:33before the end of November,
03:35the list of official candidates is now complete.
