00:00Hi kids, today we will learn unitary method for solving word problems.
00:08So let's get started.
00:12The method in which we first find the value of one unit and then the value of required
00:18number of units is known as unitary method.
00:24Let's take an example to learn unitary method.
00:29The cost of five chairs is given, it is $500.
00:35Then what is the cost of one chair?
00:39We have to find it using the unitary method.
00:44If the cost of five chairs is $500, then the cost of one chair is $500 divided by 5.
00:53So the cost of one chair is $100.
00:59Now let's take another example.
01:02The cost of five chairs is $500, then what is the cost of two chairs?
01:10Let's find it out with the help of unitary method.
01:14That is, we will be finding the cost of one chair and then we will find the cost of two
01:21chairs.
01:23If the cost of five chairs is $500, then the cost of one chair is $500 divided by 5.
01:33And 500 divided by 5 equals 100.
01:39So the cost of one chair is $100.
01:44So kids, we have calculated the cost of one chair.
01:49Now calculating the cost of two chairs is easy.
01:53Multiply the cost of one chair with 2 to get the cost of two chairs.
02:00100 multiplied by 2 we get 200.
02:05So the cost of two chairs is $200.
02:10So this is unitary method, where we find first the cost of one item and then the cost of
02:18desired number of items.
02:21Now let's take another example.
02:24The cost of three pens is $9.
02:28Where is the cost of two pens?
02:32Let's find it out with the help of unitary method.
02:36That is, first find the cost of one pen and then find the cost of two pens.
02:44If the cost of pens is $9, then cost of one pen is $9 divided by 3.
02:53And 9 divided by 3 equals 3.
02:56So cost of one pen is $3.
03:01Now we have the cost of one pen.
03:05Cost of two pens will be cost of one pen multiplied by 2.
03:12And cost of one pen is $3.
03:16So 3 multiplied by 2 equals 6.
03:21So cost of two pens is $6.
03:26Now let's take another example.
03:29The cost of four books is $120.
03:35Then what is the cost of three books?
03:39Let's find it out with the help of unitary method.
03:43That is, first we will find the cost of one book and then we will find the cost of three
03:49books.
03:50If the cost of four books is $120, then the cost of one book will be $120 divided by 4.
04:04And 120 divided by 4 equals 30.
04:09So the cost of one book is $30.
04:15Now we have calculated the cost of one book.
04:20So we can easily find out the cost of three such books.
04:24It will be 30 multiplied by 3 equals 90.
04:31So cost of three books will be $90.
04:36Now let's take one more example.
04:40360 rose plants can be planted in 20 rows.
04:46Then how many roses can be planted in 15 such rows?
04:51Let's find it out with the help of unitary method.
04:56That is, first we will find how many rose can be planted in one row.
05:02And then we can easily find out how many rose plants can be planted in 15 such rows.
05:11In 20 rows, 360 plants can be planted.
05:17So the number of plants that can be planted in one row is 360 divided by 20.
05:27360 divided by 20 equals 18.
05:32So 18 rose plants can be planted in one row.
05:38So we have calculated rose plants that can be planted in one row.
05:44For finding rose plants that can be planted in 15 rows, 18 multiplied by 15 rose plants
05:53can be planted in 15 rows.
05:56We just have to multiply 18 with 15.
06:0118 multiplied by 15 equals 270.
06:07So 270 rose plants can be planted in 15 rows.
06:13So kids, now you know what is the unitary method.
06:18You need to practice to learn the unitary method.
06:21Now you may go ahead and take a quiz to learn more.
06:24Bye-bye.
