Leeds reflects on exams

  • last month
How do you feel about exams - should they be scrapped as they don't suit everyone, or are they a good measure of achievement? How did you feel when you sat your exams, and did you do well?
Transcript
00:00I suppose they're necessary, but they're not very nice, and you have to have something
00:08to prove you've done a year's work and come out the other end with something worth having.
00:15I think young people these days get a huge amount more work than we had.
00:20I did a lot better than I was predicted to in my A-levels, so I went to university. I
00:26know plenty of people who haven't got any A-levels and miles brighter than me.
00:29I'm a late-diagnosed ADHD woman, so for me exams were an absolute nightmare. For me,
00:36exams can be really, really difficult for a vast number of children in the school education
00:40system, and it needs revising, to be honest, to enable all children to have fair, equal
00:45access to attaining their potential, and at the moment I don't believe that that happens.
00:52As it turned out, I went off to uni as a mature student, and I was able to kind of do things
00:56my own way and make the education system fit for me.
