Paris Olympics 2024: Day 8 recap
Transcript
00:00Australia has won gold on each of the first eight days of the Olympic Games for the first
00:07time in history. This time, it was John Pears and Matthew Ebden creating history in the
00:12men's tennis doubles tournament. There'll be few more popular or unexpected Australian
00:17gold medalists in Paris than the tennis journeymen who beat the USA in the gold medal match.
00:23Twenty-year-old Gray Morris's silver is Australia's first Olympic windsurfing medal in 32 years.
00:29When Ariane Titmus picked up silver in the 800-meter freestyle, she finished behind American
00:35legend Katie Ledecky once more, who won her fourth consecutive gold in the event. Kayla
00:40McEwen was elevated to bronze in the 200 individual medley and soon had another bronze medal after
00:46teaming with Josh Young, Matt Temple and Mollio Callahan in the mixed 4x100 medley relay. Julian
00:53Alfred won a first-ever Olympic gold for the tiny Caribbean nation of St. Lucia in the
00:58women's 100-meter sprint. A notable absentee, though, in that race was Shelly-Anne Fraser-Price,
01:04who was initially denied access to the venue, but the official word is she was out with
01:09an injury. Swimming comes to a close tomorrow morning with Australia chasing a few more
01:14gold medals. The Kookaburras campaign is on the line against the Netherlands, and we have
01:18two gold medal hopes in the women's high jump in Nicola Ollieslagers and Eleanor Patterson.
