00:00Another day wraps up at the Paris Olympic Games and that is the end of the swimming
00:07program so walking past the pool one last time after claiming silver. In the women's
00:124x100 medley relay, Kayleigh McEwan looked at the pool and thought, why not, who cares.
00:17So in she went, cannonballing into the pool with the rest of Australia's team, tracksuits
00:22and all, shoes still on, after claiming silver in the last race on the program that came
00:27after Meg Harris claimed silver in the 50m freestyle earlier in the morning. An unsung
00:32hero finally gets an individual medal. Now why wouldn't Australia's swimmers want to
00:36make one last splash in Paris because seven gold, eight silver and three bronze medals
00:41mark Australia's third best return at an Olympic Games in history. They'd even given the mighty
00:46Americans a bit of a fright on the medal count. Both countries were level on seven golds heading
00:50into the final race of the meeting. As it turned out, the Americans finished with eight
00:55golds and they've topped every swimming medal count at the Olympics since 1956. Now in track
01:02and field, Nicola Ollis-Lagas claimed silver in the women's high jump final while Eleanor
01:07Patterson took a share of the bronze medal in the same event. But it was the 100m final
01:12that had everyone stunned. It was Noah Lyles of the USA beating Jamaican rival Kishane
01:18Thompson by less than a second. Plenty to come tonight with the Hockeyroos playing a
01:23quarterfinal, Nana Kennedy and Matt Denny kick off their athletic campaigns.
