00:03A concerned community group opposed the Derbyshire County Council's plans to sell land at Matlock
00:07and possibly convert the area into housing. It's expected to be among a number of key
00:12interested parties hoping to take over the site as the deadline for bids draws closer.
00:17The council earmarked the 2.2 acres of land, which includes a council employee's car park
00:23and former playing fields off Cavendish Road and George Road, for sale and development to help
00:28offset multi-million pound funding cuts. But after residents objected to the plans over the
00:33loss of open space and parking, they formed the Matlock Community Land Trust and had the site
00:38designated as an asset of community value, before agreeing to submit a bid to buy the land for more
00:43community orientated use, despite the council's hopes for the site to be developed into housing
00:48with 30 new houses on the site. A Derbyshire County Council spokesperson has now confirmed
00:54that the land has been placed up for sale with their commercial land agent.
