00:00Here man may still be awed by nature's presence.
00:04Few roads lead into these wild reaches.
00:07Railroads are unheard of.
00:09Even trails are rare.
00:11And yet much of the world's wealth lies within these boundaries.
00:15Fish and game abound.
00:17Gold, silver, copper, oil, and other valuable minerals are there for the finding.
00:23Yet surface transportation is so slow, dangerous, and expensive
00:27that such trips into the bush have been rare until bush flying.
00:32Airplanes came to the bush country about 40 years ago
00:35and the bush pilot rapidly developed a reputation as a daredevil, explorer,
00:40weatherman, mechanic, cook, guide, woodsman, hunter, fisherman.
00:45The bush pilot had to know a little bit about everything in order to survive.
00:50Above all, he had to be a skilled flyer who could do ingenious things with an airplane.
00:55Hey, what's that bleeding part? What are you trying to do, blow us both up?
01:08Make you nervous? We'll do you good, Sam.
01:11We'll sweat off a little of that beer.
01:13Hey, you've been busy all along. Where are you flying off to this time?
01:16Oh, some guy from Vancouver State and his wife fishing for a couple of days.
01:20As a matter of fact, it's been a hell of a good season so far this year.
01:25Hey, what does Vixen think about you flying, being away from the lard so much?
01:30Oh, she knew I was a bush jockey when she married me.
01:33But I'll bet she didn't know she'd be separated so much.
01:36You know, a young girl can get kind of restless when her husband's away all the time like that.
01:42What's that supposed to mean?
01:44I was just saying that a young girl gets lonely when her husband's away.
01:49No kind of entertainment, nothing to do.
01:52Why did I get that way myself?
01:55Sam, I've never seen you look so horny.
01:59No offence, Tom. I just think that you have something special going in Vixen.
02:06And I'd hate to see any of these rugged outdoor types try to take advantage of her when you're away.
02:11Vixen's full of fun. She likes to tease a lot, but she knows where to draw the line.
02:16Marriage is a big responsibility to her, especially since her kid brother came to live with us.
02:21Taking care of him and the lodge at the same time is a pretty big order.
02:25Well, I didn't know Vixen was all that responsible, Tom.
02:41Ah!
03:12What are you... Come on! Come on!
03:25If you could do anything you wanted to me, what would you do?
03:30Turn you over on my knee and spank you bare butt.
03:33What a funny policeman you are.
03:36Come on. Let's go.
03:41Come on.
04:00Where you been?
04:01Walking.
04:02Running to the constable out there?
04:04Well, if I did, it's none of your business, little boy.
04:07I think my sister's trying to get me mad.
04:11He's on his way back to the lodge with some guests, so why don't you just get lost?
04:16I'll bet the constable caught something a whole lot better than poachers out in those piney woods.
04:20You've got a dirty mind and a mouth to match it, Judd.
04:24Make way, Rufus. I'm coming through.
04:28My name ain't Rufus, Vixen.
04:32It's Niles. You keep forgetting that.
04:35You know, somehow I just keep thinking of you as Rufus.
04:40Will you remember my name is Mrs. Palmer to you, boy.
04:45What's wrong with Niles calling you Vixen? Seems a lot friendlier.
04:48How in the hell do you expect me to be friendly when the smell keeps getting in the way?
04:52Maybe it's my smell that excites you.
04:55Maybe she smelled you coming, but she couldn't wait, so she ran off with the constable to satisfy a little twitch.
05:01Now look who's talking about twitches.
05:03Last time you saw me in the buff, you couldn't even stand up straight.
05:07Oh, Vixen, are you suggesting something?
05:09You said it. What's on your mind?
05:12If you still got hot pants and the constable wasn't enough, give old Niles here a roll.
05:17He's really the man of your dreams.
05:19He's got about as much chance getting to me as finding a watermelon in the winter.
05:23What makes you think I wouldn't get it in your lily whites?
05:26Everybody knows a black just can't keep his hands off of white stuff.
05:30I thought it was the other way around.
05:32I thought it was the white chicks who like to sneak away from their husbands
05:35and get some of that dirty, primitive kind of loving we all supposed to be famous for.
05:40The only thing I know spades are famous for is rioting.
05:44And we're good tap dancers, too.
05:46Got a natural sense of rhythm.
05:48And since you are of draft age and a United States citizen
05:51and for some mysterious reason refuse to go back to your own country.
05:55There ain't nothing mysterious about my reasons.
05:57Like how you got so black on the outside when you're so yellow on the inside?
06:03Cool it, Vixen.
06:04You're forgetting again.
06:05It's Mrs. Palmer to you, boy.
06:08You're stretching your love, chick.
06:10I oughta...
06:11You oughta what, black boy?
06:14Just think about it.
06:16You just let your mind dwell on the possibilities.
06:21You coming, Judd?
06:22Oh, I'm disappointed.
06:23I was hoping you two were gonna get together.
06:26Then I'd watch.
06:29So, that's your bag, Judd.
06:31Watching.
06:32I've been known to participate when interested.
06:34I asked if you were coming, Judd.
06:35Hey, just a minute, man.
06:36My sister's trying to give me a rise.
06:38Oh, you're gonna drive old Niles up a tree.
06:40Come on, man. Let's haul.
06:42Hey, how about the three of us make it?
06:44How about just you and me?
06:46We'll let the shine watch so we'll have something to tell his grandchildren about.
06:51And how about a free ride, Judd?
06:53Is there anybody you wouldn't make it with?
06:55Only spades and cripples.
06:57How about Shetland Ponies?
06:58What do you say to chicks?
06:59I know two tender young things down at the academy.
07:01Introduce me.
07:02You gotta be kidding.
07:03How about that free ride, Judd?
07:05You really don't turn me on.
07:06Don't I?
07:07Let's go, Niles.
07:08I've got your number, Judd.
07:13Adios, fix.
07:14Let's hope the Red Baron doesn't find out about King of the Royal Mounted.
07:21He did. He'd apologize for prying.
07:27This is it.
07:28How long are we gonna stay here before we go on to Toronto?
07:31Let's just cool it and enjoy the weekend.
07:33Shall we go?
07:58The jeep's right over there beside the hangar.
08:00I'll get your bags and meet you.
08:17You know what I like about those academy chicks?
08:19You tell me.
08:20When they find out that I'm the king of the world,
08:23You know what I like about those academy chicks?
08:25You tell me.
08:26When they finally find out what it's all about,
08:28they can't get enough of it.
08:31Yeah, that's true, man.
08:34Ain't nothing better than a chick who finds out just how long
08:37she's been depriving herself of a good baby.
08:44Did you ever have a chick beg you not to stop?
08:47Yeah.
08:48Yeah.
08:50Say, man, what are we waiting for?
08:52Let's go downtown now and check them out.
08:54We can't get at them till tomorrow.
08:56They got strict rules in that academy.
08:58They'll be in town on Sunday.
09:00We'll check them out then.
09:01Hey, man.
09:02Do they know who I am?
09:04What do you think they're so excited about?
09:11Who's excited about what?
09:14Nothing that concerns you, Vixen.
09:19Why, everything my baby brother gets into concerns me, Judd.
09:23You do have a way of phrasing things, Vix.
09:27You don't know the half of what your sister can do, lover.
09:32Get your big suitcases off my table, Sambo.
09:36Someday you're gonna get your butt whipped, hunky.
09:39You and who else, yellow belly?
09:41Knock it off, Vixen.
09:42You knock it off, Judd.
09:44Here's Tom with the new guest now.
09:46Get lost.
09:52This is it, folks.
10:00That's my wife's kid brother and a friend of his.
10:02They're really not as bad as they look.
10:04Hi, honey.
10:05Hi, sweetheart.
10:06That's my wife.
10:07Come on, let's meet her.
10:09Hi.
10:13Honey, honey, I'd like you to meet Dave and Janet King.
10:17Dave's a lawyer.
10:18He and his wife are gonna spend the next couple of days fishing with us before they fly on to Toronto.
10:22Well, how do you do?
10:24It's not often we have such an attractive couple.
10:27Shall we go inside?

14:59Dinner of the low lands
15:00I
15:12Think I'm going to go further upstream. I don't seem to have much luck here
15:16What do you call luck you got three nice ones? Yeah, but nothing's happened in the last hour. You're too impatient
15:23Impatient my wife usually has the opposite complaint
15:26She says I'm too lazy say I know a great spot. It's only about a hundred yards upstream
15:32I'll show you I mean it's very easy to get lost around here that okay with you, honey

29:17And mr. O'Banion make yourself at home. The place is yours. You're very kind, ma'am
29:29Wait a minute, will ya
29:31What did you do to it it was running before nothing stop bugging me don't take it out on me it's your machine I
29:38Was ready to leave an hour ago
29:41Come on, cut out. I'll see you in time. I'll wait
29:54Not only did you crap out with Vixen but you're gonna blow it with the Academy chicks to make it hunky
29:59I'll be at Mickey's beer joint if you can make it if you can't I guess I'll just take on those two tender young broads
30:05myself
30:11Laying some new names on you so long
30:29I
30:43Looks like you're not to appreciate it around here. What's that supposed to mean? You don't mind the names they call you
30:49Nobody calls me names the young lad did the woman does too. I can handle and you can handle the fact that you're in failure, too
31:00Who says I'm inferior I didn't mean to intrude but I understand your situation
31:06Yeah, you left the States because of racism
31:08I left because I wasn't joining no hunky army to get wiped out for nothing
31:12Ah, but you come up here and you find that the white people behave the same way to you as they do in the States
31:17What's your angle? I hate racism as much as you do. So there are countries where there is an equality between the races
31:24Where is that?
31:26Ireland much closer than you think where Cuba is one place. There are others farther away
31:34Hey, man, you know, I
31:37Read you as a commie
31:39You can't really crawl out of the woodwork. I am a communist and I am proud that you have called me that but first I
31:47Am a man a name which you cannot give yourself because your prejudice and bigoted friends won't let you
31:54I don't buy that noise
31:56To me you're as much my enemy as anyone else. How can I be your enemy when you don't even know me?
32:03I think I know what you can't stand for. Do you do you really? Yeah
32:08Why don't you tell me how good it is in Russia?
32:11No, my friend, but I will tell you how you would be accepted in Cuba where you would be treated as a man
32:25It's a good
32:28Thanks, is there any place we go talk without being overheard
32:33There's nobody here except fixin and Tom what in the hell am I gonna wear I have nothing to wear
32:41Got to get some clothes
32:43Oh
32:48Tom we have to go don't we we don't have to leave this minute
32:53It is not that the communist world is perfect by any means after all in many ways
32:57Russia has become a reactionary country. That is why the schism with China, but in Cuba you may want to change your mind
33:04if I do
33:06I'll send you a telegram
33:13Good you know, you're a very fortunate customer for us. Mr. O'Banion. Shall we go?
33:44Bye-bye Rufus fixin
33:48Miles has plenty of food for you and Judd in the icebox. Please. Take care of the lodge for me
33:53We'll be back day after tomorrow
33:55Mr. O'Banion, I think I shall accept your offer
33:58Excellent. Mr. Brooke has decided to join us join us. I I've invited. Mr. Brooke to come along
34:05Not in the same airplane with me. You don't fixin. I
34:10Don't care if you're the king of England that spook is not going to sit next to me Tom
34:16You know, I don't even want him in this camp. Mrs. Palmer. I have invited him
34:21I make no such distinction as to his color
34:24He is a human being as we all are it is prejudice and decadence which produces this totally irrational behavior in you
34:31It is your weakness and a weakness of your country
34:34The entire Western world is crumbling and rotting to its very foundations because of this disease of the mind
34:41You are incapable all of you are perceiving the truth. God strikes you down
34:47Forgive me. It is a matter of some importance. I should like to have mr. Brooke accompany me
34:52Otherwise, I shall try to find another flight. It's okay with me. I've got room for four in the plane. Okay, Vixen
34:59Oh
35:05Come on
35:10Hop in Niles
35:29I
35:37Also, mrs. Palmer only if I have to I taught her when we first got married
35:42How nice and now let's all try to make our trip a little bit more pleasant than it's beginning
35:48I agree. We might as well all relax after all we're gonna be spending the rest of the day together
35:53I
35:58Before Niles a couple of times no great distance though. Never been in a light plane before it won't be in the air long
36:04We have to land after we cross the border custom an immigration check. Is that really necessary standard procedure?
36:10We have sufficient fuel to fly non-stop to San Francisco. Do we not we do that?
36:14We have to land at the border we could stop in Sacramento couldn't we be violating international law and I suggest you violate it
36:21I am correct with six stops for refueling
36:24We shall be in Havana in approximately 30 hours at which time you shall be returned control of your airplane
36:31After you have deposited mr. Brooke in me self with the authorities
36:36You know about this all the time didn't you?
36:39Didn't you look I don't know what your game is, but piracy in the air is an international crime
36:44I am fully aware of the consequences. Mr. Palmer. You will do as you are told
36:48Niles
36:51I
36:56Am landing at the border you do and it'll be the last landing you'll ever make I will not hesitate to use this gun
37:02It won't be the first time you'll have a hard time landing this plane with a dead man at the stick
37:07Your wife would be only too happy to take over the controls rather than imitate any futile or heroic gestures on your part
37:15It's too bad. You don't have a few military secrets. You could lay on the Cubans
37:19You're gonna give a few speeches I mean about the terrible conditions in America and Canada for that matter maybe
37:30He speaks did you hear that Tom I thought mr. O'Banion cut out his tongue now tell us
37:39Tell us about what you're gonna tell the Cubans
37:42About
37:44How much worse it is in America than it is for the Cuban peasant hell in America
37:50They even ask you to fight for your country. That's right
37:53That's right. You said it. They're spending 30 billion dollars a year to bomb peasants and they're asking me to do it
37:59They're asking me to kill or be killed when they won't even let me get a job or eat in a restaurant
38:04Keep people like you from crapping on the communist countries have far less money than America, but the people work together as equals
38:11Yes, but some of your kind are a bit more equal than others. Mr
38:16O'Banion, the only thing America ever did for me was a not stop me from getting out
38:20You know, it's funny, but there's 50,000 other black men sitting in foxholes who don't seem to feel that way
38:26Well now they're just not awake yet. Oh
38:31But you are oh
38:33Yeah, you're really smart
38:35Takes half an hour for a commie to convince you to renounce your country
38:40You're really wide awake. You think all the time. That's right, baby. I don't think so
38:46I think you're just trying to get back at me. You're no damn good
38:52Just like the rest of your tribe
38:54I
39:00Got to do that without a gun sitting next to you. What do you know?
39:04You're the white pig with your hot pants for heaven's sake school at Niles
39:07We have enough trouble as it is about you and Vixen raving at each other and quit punching her out. That's very intelligent advice
39:13Mr. Palmer and Niles take it easy. That's exactly what she wants from you anger. Well, I'm better
39:20I'm
39:22Sick of hearing about communism and democracy what I do I do for myself
39:27Niles Brooke takes care of Niles Brooke
39:31You're all pretty good at taking care of yourselves, right, right?
39:34Well, my little pea-sized brain tells me that's really what it's all about
39:39Everybody looks out for himself
39:41You will find my friend that in Cuba the peasants work together for the good of each other. Well, it just so happens
39:46I'm not a peasant
39:49That's right Rufus, you're a black prince of the Congo, you know, maybe if you're nice to Castro
39:55He'll step down and let you take over the country
39:59Maybe he'll understand you better than we do here. Isn't that right? Mr. O'Banion?
40:05I don't see any point of discussing that now. He don't see any point in discussing this now
40:11You know what that means. Don't you Rufus?
40:14You've heard that one before haven't you?
40:19That means shut your black mouth, mr. Brooke one of the first duties of a citizen is to the people's leaders
40:27Support the people's leaders
40:30Now, where have I heard that before?
40:33What are you man one of the people's leaders that gun makes him a leader now
40:39Mr. O'Banion doesn't seem so friendly anymore. Does he we shall continue this voyage in silence. Wait a minute, man
40:45Are you telling me to shut up, too? I am saying I do not want any more discussion
40:50So you're telling me to keep my mouth shut if you please
40:53You call me the pretty damn cute, aren't you?
