00:00Israel has said it will no longer facilitate Norwegian diplomats to work in Palestine.
00:12Eight diplomats have already had their accreditation revoked by the Israeli Foreign Ministry, which
00:17said it made the decision in response to Norway's alleged anti-Israel conduct, including its
00:23recognition of a Palestinian state.
00:29Norway has called the move an extreme act and said it will have consequences for its
00:34relationship with the Israeli government.
00:38It comes as a Human Rights Watch report found Israeli soldiers killed at least seven Palestinians
00:44and severely wounded two when they attacked a Gaza City home in December.
00:51The family members said there were no militants or weapons inside the house and that the family
00:56had no connection to any armed group.
01:00The Israeli military has not yet responded to the allegations.
01:05Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has called the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran a
01:11flagrant violation of international law, although it has not made a direct reference to Israel.
01:19The statement comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East as fears of a wider regional
01:24war grow.
01:29Ukrainian soldiers have made advances of up to 10 kilometres into the Cusco region after
01:35the third day of an incursion into Russian territory.
01:38According to the Institute for the Study of War, Ukrainian forces have penetrated at least
01:44two Russian defence lines as fighting continues in the region.
01:50The latest is one of the largest cross-border incursions since the war began in 2022.
01:56Several outlets in Russia report that Ukrainian forces have seized the Suja checkpoint.
02:02Geolocated imagery posted on August 7 appears to show heavy damage to buildings in the area.
02:09It also shows Ukrainian forces captured over 40 Russian prisoners of war at the checkpoint.
02:15Meanwhile, Russia has confirmed Ukraine's incursion.
02:19According to its defence ministry, the Russian army is attacking Ukrainian combatants who
02:25are trying to advance on the area from Ukraine's Syrme region.
02:30Kyiv has yet to comment on the Cusco region offensive.
02:39Has the German government learned its lesson from North Stream 2?
02:43Apparently, yes.
02:44German Chancellor Olaf Scholz paid a surprise visit to Belgrade a few weeks ago to sign
02:49a major lithium mining deal with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in a bid to reduce the EU's
02:56dependency on China.
02:58Germany has ambitions to build 15 million electric vehicles by 2030 to keep its automobile
03:05industry afloat, which the German economy is largely dependent upon.
03:10But widespread protests are planned across Serbia this weekend, with more than half of
03:16the Serbian population rejecting plans to mine in the Idar Valley.
03:21These plans are not only controversial due to the environmental cost of mining, but also
03:26because of the politics.
03:28EU countries such as Austria, Portugal and the Czech Republic have large quantities of
03:33lithium in them, so it seems that the EU just wants to keep the dirty work outside of its
03:38own backyard.
03:40Liv Stroud, in Berlin, for Euronews.
03:47Protesters demonstrated outside the Bulgarian parliament to denounce a controversial legal
03:52amendment adopted the day before, which bans talk of LGBTQ+, and so-called non-traditional
04:00sexual choices, in schools.
04:03Feminist, LGBTQ+, and other rights groups organized the protests to call for a reversal
04:09of the amendment, which bans what its supporters call LGBTQ+, propaganda in schools.
04:17On Wednesday, Bulgaria's parliament approved the amendment to the country's educational
04:22legislation.
04:23The amendment bans what it calls the promotion, popularization and support of ideas and opinions
04:30related to non-traditional sexual orientation in schools.
04:35In the past, EU member Bulgaria has been criticized for violating the rights of the LGBTQ community
04:42and has been urged to guarantee its recognition and protection.
04:49What started these right-wing protests?
04:52Misinformation surrounding the murder of three young girls.
04:56I won't shy away from calling it what it is, far-right thuggery.
05:01Nazis gone!
05:03Last night in towns and cities across the UK, though, thousands of anti-fascist protesters
05:09outnumbered right-wing groups.
05:12But the anti-immigrant sentiment has arguably been bubbling under the surface for many years.
05:18It led the conservative government to propose plans to fly immigrants to migrant camps in
05:23Rwanda and to put them in barges like this one off the coast.
05:28The Labour government has now scrapped these policies, calling them gimmicks and a waste
05:33of taxpayer money.
05:34For now at least, those inside Number 10 will be extremely relieved that anti-fascist protests
05:40have helped quell recent racist unrest.
05:43But the new government now has to pick up the pieces after years of conservative anti-immigration
05:48rhetoric and failed policies, which ultimately heightened tensions.
05:53All eyes will now be on the Prime Minister and how he chooses to navigate this political
05:59tightrope.
06:00There is a difference between responsible politicians and irresponsible politicians.
06:04Dr Nigel Fletcher is a former adviser to Prime Minister David Cameron and believes Labour
06:09must now do what the Conservatives couldn't and take meaningful action around migration.
06:15Labour not only have to solve it, but also solve it in a way that is markedly and demonstrably
06:21different in tone and substance to how the Conservative government were seeking to respond
06:27to it.
06:28Because if they continue with some of the rhetoric and some of the hardline policies
06:34that the previous government has, they will alienate parts of their own party.
06:39The UK government has recently announced plans for a new border security command to tackle
06:45human smuggling gangs.
06:47This reflects the broader European struggle with migration.
06:51As the political landscape evolves, the challenge is to implement effective, humane policies
06:57that appease both sides of the political spectrum.

07:06Where there are tourists, there are pickpockets.
07:09This is also the case in Barcelona, where many visitors to the city end up leaving without
07:13a phone, wallet, passport or even all three.
07:18Some Spanish citizens say the police are doing too little to combat the issue, so they decided
07:22to take matters into their own hands.
07:25Guerrero says that in recent years, the
07:54pickpocketing situation in Barcelona has become even worse, saying that both theft and violent
08:01robberies have increased exponentially.
08:24In suburbs to the north and east of Paris, more than a quarter of the population live
08:37below the poverty line.
08:38But the suburbs also house Olympic stadiums and swimming pools.
08:43Residents are right on top of it all, but rarely go to the competitions themselves.
08:48The Olympic Village is located in the suburb of Saint Denis, thousands of apartments currently
08:53being used for athletes will soon be intended for residents, but the initial figure has
08:58decreased.
09:20Some suburbs are trying to bridge the gap between the poverty of their residents and
09:24the gold medals won just a few kilometres away.
09:31They're setting up fan zones which organise sports and activities and broadcast the games
09:36live all for free.
