00:00The organizer of a Hungry Ghost festival in Kemamang Terengganu has put up
00:06banners in Malay prohibiting Muslims from entering the venue.
00:10According to Sinchew, the three red banners hung at the event's entrance
00:14read, Muslims are not allowed to enter the event's area throughout the
00:18duration of the program, for Chinese only.
00:22The organizer said Kemamang Municipal Council officials had instructed them
00:26to put up the banners to remind Muslims that they are prohibited
00:30from participating in the event.
00:33The chairman of the event's organizing committee, Tan Chun-hyang, told
00:36China Press that they will abide by the rules set by the council.
00:41He also stressed that the council has never created trouble for the organizer.
00:46The display of the banners comes after the Terengganu government denied
00:49discriminating against other religions following reports of a ban on female
00:53singers from performing at a temple recently.
