00:00Friendly competition between Amanah and UMNO for the upcoming Makota state seat by election

00:09could threaten the stability of the federal unity government, an analyst said.

00:14Shin Yi Man of University Tunku Abdul Rahman said that competition between Pakatan Harapan

00:20and Barisan Nasional, such as in the impending Makota by-election, would only undermine their

00:26efforts to project a stable unity government.

00:29He added that such competition would set a precedent for coalition partners to contest

00:35against one another, threatening the strength and stability of the unity government, as

00:39touted by federal leaders.

00:42On Thursday, Johor DAP leader Dr. Boo Cheng Hao said that BN and PH should be allowed

00:48to compete against each other at elections, while working together for the rightyat, with

00:53BN as Johor's ruling coalition and PH providing checks and balances as the opposition.

01:00Boo also said a friendly contest between the two parties at the Makota by-election would

01:05be a testing ground for such a sophisticated political enigma.

01:10Meanwhile, analyst Asrul Hadi Abdullasani said it is important for UMNO and DAP not

01:16to be seen as one ticket, as doing so may impact both parties at the polls.

01:22Asrul said there is, and will always be, this trust between supporters of both parties.
