Ukrainians flee areas near border with Russia's Kursk region

Ukrainian authorities in northeastern Sumy region ordered mandatory evacuation of 28 settlements located within a 10-kilometer border zone after Russia intensified the use of guided aerial bombs in the area, regional Governor Volodymyr Artiukh said.

About 20,000 people need to be evacuated from the area, National Police said on Friday, August 9.

Residents, carrying few belongings in plastic bags and pets in their arms, boarded evacuation vans with the help of volunteers.
