00:00He wanted to show Allah how regretful he was of time wasted in this enormity of a sin of riba that he gave up everything

00:07nearly all he ever owned I

00:13Often recall the story of Abdullah Ibn Marzook who was a good friend of one of the Khulafa

00:20The Abbasid Khalifas and this man was a loan shark

00:23He was just like obsessed with money and he would lend people for an advantage charge them riba

00:30And he became very wealthy till one day

00:33someone dropped on his leg a burning coal that they were burning the incense off of and

00:39So he woke up he was sleeping and he was like

00:42What was that and the servant girl that was walking around with the burner?

00:46She said that was a glimpse of the fire of this world

00:51so what do you imagine the fire of the hereafter would be like and

00:55And he had subhanallah a complete change of heart a complete change of lifestyle

00:59And then he gave up all of his money for the sake of Allah

01:03Which he didn't have to do by the way, if you are earning from haram ends or haram means

01:10You are allowed to keep your capital and give up your haram earnings

01:15But he wanted to show Allah how regretful he was of time wasted in this enormity of a sin of riba that he gave up

01:22everything nearly all he ever owned and

01:25One day two of the great worshipers and scholars of the time al-fudayl ibn ayyad and Sufyan ibn Uyayna rahimahum Allah

01:33They passed by this man. They see a different person in front of them tattered clothing

01:39sleeping on the ground

01:41putting his head on a brick a piece of stone and

01:45So al-fudayl said to him Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala

01:50Never sees anyone give up something for his sake

01:54Except that he replaces him with something better meaning Allah is too

01:58Appreciating to tell you wait for Jannah to get any sort of kickback get any sort of benefit

02:04Allah is not like that. You gave up something for Allah. I'm sure Allah gave you something in its place

02:10so what did Allah give you and

02:12He responded saying a riba be my NFE being content with this condition of mine

02:19I have far less comfort far less luxury far less fame

02:24Everything is less in terms of worldly possessions

02:28worldly opportunities than my previous self my previous lifestyle

02:33But I am more content now than ever and that is the sweetest experience that a person can have

02:39During their stay in this world
