00:00Cheyenne Orvis here. I'm a fly fishing guide, a travel host, and I want to give you a couple tips
00:04to help you get into the sport of fly fishing. Let's talk about gear and what you should have
00:09before you hit the water. A net, a pack, polarized sunglasses, most importantly your fly rod. So I've
00:16got a nine foot five weight LK Legacy and it's just a great overall trout rod for Colorado rivers.
00:23So now that you've got your rod and your gear and you're ready to head to the water,
00:27I'm going to talk about an overhand to the basic cast. So all you're going to do is lift your rod
00:32tip up to your right shoulder, let that line unfold behind you, and then bring your rod forward
00:39and bring that line all the way down to the water. So go ahead and lift it up, pause,
00:46lower that rod tip back down to the water. I highly recommend you going to the fly shop and
00:50finding out what flies you should use for your local fishery, but I'm going to tell you five
00:55of my favorites for some rivers here in Colorado. Patch rubberleg, hoppers, parachute addams,
01:01prince nymph, and pheasant tails. Hopefully these tips help you out on your fly fishing journey.
01:06Make sure your hands are wet when you're handling the trout and have fun out there.
01:10That's the most important part and don't give up, just keep fishing.
