00:00In Batu 11 Ceras, once a Chinese new village,

00:03lies a quaint community library called Little Giraffe Story House.

00:08Behind its humble facade and adorable name

00:11is an inspiring story of the spirit of community.

00:14It started from 2011 by a group of aunties.

00:18They want to provide, they hope that children in the new village

00:22have more space to read and listen to stories.

00:25Lee, an architect who spent considerable time in the village as a young boy,

00:29helped out at the library.

00:31Back then it was only a container and known as the Little Giraffe Book Club.

00:36Realising it could do with a bigger space, Lee began scouting for a house.

00:41Settling on a run-down property that he was confident

00:43only needed a little sprucing up to become a full functioning library.

00:49In doing so, the rented house, believed to be about 70 years old,

00:54would get a new lease of life.

00:56Together with a group of friends, they began the renovation process.

01:00We decided to spend our 6 months here to do renovation.

01:04True enough, others began to join them.

01:07They helped in any way they could,

01:09cutting the grass, building bookshelves

01:12and contributing bricks and metal for the construction.

01:15Today, the library has been renamed Little Giraffe Story House.

01:20It stocks approximately 3,000 books

01:23from children's fiction books to novels, mostly in Chinese.

01:28Storytelling sessions are also held here as are special movie nights.

01:33There is also a cafe, so visitors can enjoy a good meal

01:37in a nostalgic kampong setting when they drop by.
