00:00Lara, tell me about your results, what have you got?
00:02I'm very happy, I got two A stars and an A
00:04And what does that mean to you?
00:06Pretty much still, I'm doing a gap year and then I'm going to study abroad
00:10Congratulations, and Will?
00:12Hi, I'm Will, I got an A star and two A's, and it means I'm going to Oxford to study Japanese
00:18Incredible, and why is Japanese such an appeal for you?
00:22Well, I love languages, I like challenging myself, and Japanese is supposed to be one of the hardest languages for English speakers
00:29And so I really wanted to learn a completely different culture
00:32And Lara, for people who are listening to this now, who perhaps got their results many years ago
00:38And perhaps precariously through you now sensing the anxiety and the tension of the day
00:43Just talk to me, what's the process there, how do you find out what the results are and how does it all work?
00:48So, wake up at 7.30, get your results at 8 from the school
00:53And then go online, and then come in, and it's all very stressful, but very relieved, very happy
01:00And tell me about the results and how they compare with your expectation
01:05I was expecting lower, so I was very happy to get above my expectations, but it was a surprise
01:13What's the reason you got these high grades?
01:17I've spent a lot of time working really, really hard, and I'm really, really passionate about my subject
01:22So, I think that's one of the reasons, yeah
01:25And you're going to take a year out, what are your plans for that year?
01:28I'm working a bit during mid-July, and then going travelling, studying at the time I'm in, and learning about my culture
01:38You're not going to get as far as when you're in Japan, are you?
01:41No, probably not
01:43So, Will, you're going to go straight into studying in Oxford
01:46Have you got everything planned, got accommodation?
01:49Yeah, well, I've put in my preferences, I haven't confirmed anything yet
01:53But, yeah, most of it's sorted, I've taken all my forms and my ideas and things like that
01:58And the year, what's your result going to be?
02:01I mean, for me, it was really everything like this morning
02:05I woke up and I was thinking, it's this decision
02:08Either I get into Oxford, I go and I do Japanese, and I go to the outside of the world next year
02:12And then probably my whole life is going to be somewhat centred around me seeing things
02:17Or, if I don't get in, I reconsider, take a year off, and maybe do French
02:21Because I'm a big fan of French, and I love France
02:24And so, whatever my results were, it was just like, well, what would I be living in the rest of my life?
02:30And this school is very well known among its students for having a strong community around the education, but also around sport
02:39Are you a bit concerned that you might lose teachers and your friends now you're going off to the US?
02:43I mean, there's always that chance, especially if I'm going to Japan next year
02:47I've made some really great good friends, I wouldn't want to lose them
02:51But, I also have quite long holidays, I'm planning to return here
02:55My family lives here, I'll come back, that's the part I'm in sometimes
03:00So, yeah, it's going to be quite challenging, obviously
03:02And what about you Lara, travelling away from home?
03:05I think it'll be a good experience, I'll definitely come back as well
03:08So, yeah, I love this community and I wish to live forever
03:12I just feel as though it's going to be a long journey
03:14Yes, definitely, yeah, you never know what might happen
