War Thunder Patch 1.47 round up Episode 1

  • last month
First of what I hope to be a new series during the build up for patches, where I take a look at the new features that have appeared in the Dev Blog, giving my opinion on them and how what I think their affect in game will be.

Should point out their have also been changes to some of the maps, which I didn't cover in this episode, I will try to cover these when I can.

00:00Hello everybody and welcome to the first patch roundup for patch 1.47.
00:05As most of you know we've been getting quite a few updates on the dev blog, well not updates
00:09but status reports on things we can expect in 1.47.
00:14And yesterday Gaijin sort of kicked off the hype train with the mighty mouse.
00:19But there have been a lot of other updates so in this episode I'm going to try and cover
00:23most of them, or all of the ones that have been released so far.
00:27Now the reason I've started in the hangar and with the Stuka D5 is because that is what
00:31the first of the updates is dealing with.
00:34At the moment it has two 20mm cannons and a 7.92mm machine gun in the back.
00:39If we quickly pop over to the Gaijin website we can see that two additional variants of
00:45pod configuration are going to be added to the aircraft.
00:48First one is a set of three paired 7.92mm machine guns, three machine guns for each
00:53pod and there's two of them, so six machine guns.
00:56And the second is two MG151-20 cannons, again two per pod and there's two pods.
01:03Here's a picture of it with the machine guns, looks quite good, you know, pretty good.
01:10That's it with the cannons.
01:13Personally I don't know how useful this is actually going to be, mainly because if you
01:18want to use the Stuka effectively you've got to sort of be able to have your way, you know,
01:22be able to out-turn the enemy, which the Stuka can do quite effectively, it can surprise
01:26your enemy sometimes.
01:28I think if you add in these pods, losing the agility for a bit of extra firepower, when
01:32you, and it's already got quite decent firepower, it's a good update of course, but I'm not
01:37sure it's going to be too useful for the Stukas.
01:40Now moving on from the Stuka we've got an empty cockpit, nothing particularly unusual
01:45about that except that it's at night and the next picture we can now see there is a light
01:49on in the cockpit.
01:50You can also see the canopy is open, which we'll talk about in a minute.
01:54This update seems like it'll be good for simulator pilots, realistic not so much because you
02:00can still get the third person view, and it's going to be mainly fighter pilots because
02:04bombers don't even have cockpits, it's a good addition, it only applies for planes that
02:08had them of course, but a good addition, though again I do think it will be limited in its
02:13application or practicality of its applications, and you know it's probably not going to be
02:19too useful for the majority of players, but like I said, a good addition nonetheless.
02:23Now the next pictures we're looking at are the opening canopies, or operating canopies
02:27as Gaijin is calling them.
02:29Again this is like the cockpit lights, this is definitely something for simulator players.
02:35It's not going to be too much useful outside of simulator battles except for, you know,
02:39if you're roleplaying or for flavouring, you know.
02:43It's not going to be too practical in realistic or arcade.
02:46It's a good addition again, because it should, you know, it could be done in real life, it
02:50should be done in the game, but again it's probably not going to be all that practical
02:56for most players, or useful for most players, but like I say it's a good addition, I'm glad
03:01that Gaijin are starting to add these small little details that have been overlooked before,
03:05and show a little bit of love towards the simulator community.
03:10Now the next dev blog entry is something that I'm especially looking forward to, Binoculars
03:15for Commanders.
03:16At the moment, if you're in simulator battles or realistic or whatever, the only way you
03:22can actually zoom into the distance is with your gun barrel, but with the addition of
03:26binoculars you will be able to, you know, zoom in without having to turn your whole
03:30turret or your whole tank.
03:31This will likely be useful in all game modes, but especially realistic simulator battles
03:35where obviously you get less markers and, you know, it's more realistic, and the addition
03:42of the new hardcore ultra simulator battles with no markers, it'll be really useful for
03:49spotting enemy tanks in the distance.
03:51The only thing I do want some clarification on when Gaijin are releasing this is whether
03:57the commander will be actually sticking out of the hatch, because obviously that may add
04:01a tactical dynamic to it, you know, do I pop out and use my binoculars and risk getting
04:06shot or do I stay buttoned up and have less visibility?
04:10But this is definitely a very good addition that I'm especially looking forward to.
04:14The next view mode you'll be seeing in a second, not looking forward to so much, is the driver
04:18tank view.
04:19It'll be useful in some situations maybe, but it just seems like a more limited commander
04:25view or view of what we've already got.
04:27Now I could be proven wrong, maybe it will prove more useful, and I'm not knocking the
04:31idea, you know, it is good that Gaijin is adding in these more viewpoints and more realistic
04:36settings.
04:37And in simulator mode, maybe it will prove more useful and plus in realistic, but at
04:41the moment I'm not too convinced it's going to be that useful for myself, but again, not
04:46disagreeing with it, I'm glad it's being added, but not particularly something I'm looking
04:50forward to that much.
04:53Now I've slowed down the next video.
04:54If you look carefully, you should be able to see Haze, which is what this dev blog entry
04:59deals with.
05:00It's good to see more graphical stuff being added in, I just hope it's not going to tank
05:06my laptop, I mean it's already quite low FPS while playing the game, but again it's
05:11good to see Gaijin is adding in more graphical improvements and making the game more realistic.
05:17Now the next entry which should be popping up any second is the contrails from aircraft.
05:22These have been missing from jet battles and air battles in general.
05:26Again as long as it doesn't tank my settings or other people's settings too much, it would
05:30be a very very good addition and again more realism, and it is something I'm looking forward
05:35to, especially when I'm getting to higher tier battles myself, you know like jets, where
05:40it will be more noticeable.
05:41And you can see in that picture, you can see like three or four different lots of contrails.
05:45It adds to realism, makes the game more pretty, pretty good thing for Gaijin to add in, and
05:51it has been called for for quite a while if I'm not mistaken.
05:54Now the next dev blog entry is to do with terrain.
05:57You can actually see a small video here of a truck going through the mud, and you can
06:01see it's a bit different than what it is at the moment.
06:04Here's the full description.
06:06Tracked vehicles will travel at their maximum speed on roads, but because of low traction
06:09will tend to drift on sharp turns, while on standard terrain situations opposite, vehicle
06:15will have maximum traction but will be unable to develop at high speeds.
06:19Climbing up a steep and muddy slope may be more difficult because of lack of grip with
06:22the surface, and vehicles can slide down.
06:24Now the implications of this are quite big.
06:29At the moment if you want to get to a target you just point, you know, straight towards
06:32your target and go full speed.
06:35If this is to be believed you won't, that may not necessarily be the best thing.
06:39If you want to get there fast you may have to take the roads.
06:42Now of course this will lead to ambushes and choke points, which means you may want to
06:47then take the muddy countryside, but again you'll be a bit slower while your other teammate,
06:53well other team might have taken the roads because you've gone by, um, not, if you've
06:58not gone by the roads you may not have set up an ambush, so the other team may still
07:01beat you.
07:02On the other hand if you go into a muddy terrain and you get bogged down and stuck you will
07:06be a very, very, very easy target for the enemy.
07:10This is going to add all sorts of tactical implications for the game, looking forward
07:16to this, partly out of curiosity and partly out of, you know, it being a good addition,
07:23and it will be nice to see how this actually develops in game, again we haven't actually
07:27seen how it's going to work apart from that short video, so something to look out for
07:32in my opinion, and probably one of the top things I'm looking forward to in this update.
07:37Of course last but not least we have the mouse, the last dev block entry is about the mouse,
07:43I've already done an episode on it, I'll leave a little annotation for you to follow.
07:47Probably the thing that everyone's looking forward to the most, including myself, unfortunately
07:51I'm nowhere near rank 5 so I probably won't be able to do a video of it on the dev server.
07:56I mean I could do the armour previews and the interior of the tank previews, but unless
08:00I get to rank 5 in like the next week or so, that's just not going to happen, and even
08:05if I do get to rank 5 I think the dev server actually lags behind the main server a little
08:09bit so it'll possibly still show me what I am now, like rank 2, so yeah, we'll try and
08:16get more information on that when the dev server's up, but like I said I've already
08:20done a video on it, so if you want more information just follow the annotation.
08:25So that's it for this week's first ever patch 1.47 roundup, first time I've done
08:30a roundup episode really, hopefully I'll be able to do one of these each week during
08:36the build up for patch 1.47, as they release more stuff on the dev server I'll just do
08:41a little roundup of what's been added, my opinion on it, how I think it will affect
08:46the game, you know that sort of stuff.
08:49Now I should mention, stuff on the dev blog, it usually means that it's been cleared for
08:55release in the next patch, so patch 1.47, but that doesn't mean it's always 100% confirmed,
09:02some of you may remember there was a delay with 1.43 due to the damage model problems,
09:081.43 was pushed back to October from August, 0.45 was pushed back to December, and that
09:16meant some of the stuff that had been sort of slated for release, that had in fact been
09:20put on the dev blog were actually pushed back as well, I believe one of them was a fleet
09:26air arm British aircraft, that's actually not been released, yeah, despite being on
09:31the dev blog, in fact I think the whole fleet air arm release which was meant to be 0.47
09:36is actually going to be 0.49 now or something.
09:40Of course there are other stuff we probably were getting 0.47 that aren't covered in dev
09:44blogs, there are very strong indications we're probably going to get the Focke-Wulf 200,
09:50and some other German bombers, I think the Ju-88 attack aircraft, and more American tanks,
09:57that sort of stuff, but again, until it's on the dev blog or dev server or it's been
10:02officially confirmed, I'm not going to cover it in too much detail.
10:05There is actually a patch 1.47 rumour roundup thread in the official War Thunder forums,
10:11I'll leave a link to that for those of you who are interested in the things we might
10:14be getting in 1.47 but haven't been confirmed, they're usually quite good with information,
10:19I think they've been right in the past, so I'll leave a link to that thread.
10:23Hope you've enjoyed the video, hope you've found it informative about the new things
10:28we're going to be getting in game, leave a like if you like the videos, subscribe if
10:32you do like these sorts of videos, leave feedback, you can always do it with more feedback, thanks
10:37for watching, I'll see you next time.
