Having not done a game play commentary in a long time, I decided to do one while showing off a new event called airfield assault, where I got a decent amount kills and had quite a lot of fun! 00:00Hello everybody and welcome back to another episode of War Thunder.

00:03Now today I want to look at a new event that's just been announced.

00:07Airfield Assault Arcade Battle 6-16 players.

00:10In order to win in airfield capture mode the team has to capture the central

00:14airfield and then the airfield of the enemy.

00:16Basically you've got three airfields, your base here, enemies and a central one.

00:21And it works basically the same as normal events

00:24or normal domination. You have to capture the enemies, well you have to hold the

00:28majority of the airfield so you have to capture the enemy's airfield and the

00:31central one. Now first of all I should apologize if

00:35the sound's a bit weird. I'm using my Turtle Beaches and

00:38basically to control the sound you have to do it through the laptop.

00:41If you try to adjust it through War Thunder it just doesn't work until you

00:45get to or you know the differences are so

00:48minuscule you can't tell until you actually mute it at which point

00:50the sound goes away. But we'll just skip this bit and get

00:54straight into the game. So we're in the game, you can see

00:58I've actually taken a few reserve tier aircraft just to fill out my

01:03loadout or lineup because basically I think

01:06you can't take bombers or heavy fighters and I always keep the last few as

01:10heavy fighters or bombers so I can you know be ready to do whatever in

01:15any of the games. So I've got a few of them.

01:20Oh apparently the sound's just muted, the engine sounds entirely at the moment.

01:24I'm just gonna pause it two seconds. Ah there you go.

01:27I do apologize, it's weird I did just sort this all out in test flight it was

01:31working perfectly. Must be different aircraft,

01:34different engine noises. So here's our base or there's the middle

01:40base. I think you have to take the middle base

01:41before you could take the enemy's bases. So you can see here our team's already

01:46taken zone A and now we can take zone B.

01:50Or maybe our base just wasn't showing up because

01:54it's not our objective. I think I'm understanding it a bit better now.

01:57It's P-51. All right first kill of the match.

02:02Oh no, can we get him? Of course we can.

02:06Right, I thought the enemy was dying. I thought they were right in our

02:12town for a second there. It's all right we need to capture zone B.

02:16There's a lot of enemies down there I'm not sure we're gonna be able to get them.

02:21So I think we're probably best at top cover at the moment.

02:24This guy seems to be our... He's got the Focke-Wulf 190 but I'm not

02:29sure he's gonna be able to kill him but I don't want to

02:32steal his kill. Then again this guy just started going for

02:35the 112 so I probably stole his kill a little bit.

02:40Well I got an assist but all right probably shouldn't be doing

02:44this but I'll get a few shots off.

02:49Ah shouldn't have, damn it. The problem with the Japanese planes is

02:54they have very low velocity cannons so at long ranges they do tend to be

02:59rather useless.

03:04I got lucky there I usually can't get any kills in the Ki-84

03:08let alone two or three. So so far we've captured... Oh the enemy

03:14has retaken A we just need to get to B.

03:18And again the engine sounds quite quiet again it must be just

03:21for different planes that the settings are. I do apologize about the sound I've

03:26been trying to fix it for the last... Well I say I've been trying to fix it I

03:29haven't really had a chance to fix it properly. It's because

03:34basically I've only got... It's something to do with the HDMI ports I think.

03:38I have to put it through a USB... The USB things that can take like

03:43multiple USB plugs and to get it working even

03:47otherwise you if you plug it straight into the laptop it's just

03:50large buzzing noise which obviously you don't want.

03:54That's right A6M we probably should be climbing this isn't

03:59that good a diving aircraft it but it's better than the previous Japanese planes

04:03at diving but or better previous naval planes.

04:08The army planes the Imperial Japanese Army are generally very good at diving

04:12er planes. Oh Jesus nearly got him. Right I'm gonna pull off there we don't

04:18need three... What we don't need two people after

04:21one plane. We need to be keeping our eye on A.

04:27Oh it's flying past on fire and with a wing missing.

04:32See if we can get the typhoon.

04:37Now this is how things usually go. Right pull off pull off before they

04:42can get us. Ah too late.

04:49Right that's so that's how most modern planes gone. Next up is

04:56take the bombs off. I use this I always use the middle one as a sort of fire

05:00bomber. I usually take a few bombs just drop

05:02them on targets and you know go to fighting

05:05normally but obviously no ground attack in this

05:09mission. The thing to remember with most airfield domination just in general is

05:14that there are ground targets and they can actually cap the airfields and

05:17prevent you from capping. I know that should be quite an obvious

05:20thing but you'd be surprised even at higher tiers how many people don't

05:24realize that and just you know start talking in the chat how

05:27they can't capture the airfield and it's broken or

05:30you know what there's an enemy tank sitting there.

05:34That's right we've taken out four enemy aircraft at the moment.

05:38Oh actually top of the leaderboard that's a nice change.

05:43Now perhaps I should have bought some bombs just to drop in the airfield.

05:47Oh no he's crashed. Well crisis averted.

05:52It's a fine line to tread when doing these missions between

05:56capturing the airfield and holding everyone off from you know the enemy off

05:59from the airfield. I have a tendency to just single-mindedly

06:03go off the airfields and that doesn't really go well. Although if you're

06:08in a bomber there isn't much else you can do

06:10other than just dropping bombs on it periodically to stop the

06:13enemy getting it. Right uh didn't expect the F-82 to come out of nowhere.

06:19Used to have a very bad reputation that aircraft and

06:23somehow it's I don't know if they fixed it or something but it's finally quite a

06:27good aircraft. Now unfortunately after that match I

06:30lost quite badly. I took the biplanes out and predictably

06:33was slaughtered without achieving anything of note.

06:36Um got good results something like 32 000 lions

06:39won the half thousand rp which when you remember I took the biplanes out which

06:43would have like halved how much you got um you know in

06:45the overall result. So I'm gonna oh wrong button. I'm gonna try it again

06:50as the Americans. I keep nearly doing that um keep

06:54clicking to battle. I'll do one more battle.

06:57We're going to take the F-4U out. As you can see we've got the mono planes the

07:01reserve planes um and one half decent plane um

07:05half decent for reserve anyway. The reserve.

07:11So we're going to take the F-4U out and apparently it's already started. Oh great.

07:16Right so I'm just going to gain some height.

07:21Off we go. Voila. Right one and a half thousand meters.

07:28Now right we're against F-8Fs and

07:34Spitfire. Oh my god. How am I looking at the distance if I've got this?

07:39Uh so your standard vehicles uh Spitfire Mark 5C might be a little bit

07:44low. Um it's a 5.3. Mine's

07:49I can't actually check what my F-4U is. That's annoying.

07:53I can't really check there either. Seems a bit pointless to let me

07:58tell me what the other planes are but not what my own one is.

08:01Yeah but overall it seems to be about a rating 5.7 to 5.

08:07Or 6 um yeah between 6 and 5 at the moment.

08:12Right I don't want to no I don't want to give up my height advantage too early.

08:18Although oh we've got a guy no I did have a guy going for B.

08:22I could go after this Spitfire but that 109 seems to have been covered so

08:27I'm gonna

08:29gonna dive in. Sorry if the commentary has been a bit

08:33um not very good. This is the first gameplay video I've done in

08:37what must be months. Just haven't had a chance really.

08:40Well I've had time but not time for proper commentaries.

08:44Plus I just haven't had any good matches.

08:48Right his wing's crippled so I'm gonna go for this guy.

08:53He's you know I don't get the kill yet but

08:57oh he's crashed. I'd rather get the assist and make sure the enemies

09:00and you know get another enemy than just get a kill and the other enemy gets

09:04away free.

09:07Usually quite good at dodging but not today.

09:12But our pilot got away. Now some people do

09:15tend to not um you know they just let the pilot die like they don't bail out

09:19but um I always try and get the pilot out because it does say on the repair

09:24includes crew I think or something along those lines so

09:28I don't know if your crew getting out changes things like

09:31repair costs. I have noticed some very wild

09:34variations of repair costs there must be some truth to it or

09:39I mean I don't know it seems like it seems like planes can take

09:42get killed and still have different amounts of damage like

09:45you know sometimes it was crashing the ground and you have like a thousand

09:48silver line repair bill if you just scraped the ground but if you like slam

09:53into a mountain it's like three thousand so there must be

09:56crew and the amount of damage you took must factor into it somehow.

10:01Right on missiles. I'm not going to keep the missiles

10:04so I always fire them off anyway so I'll fire them off at a

10:09somewhat easy target even if I did miss him.

10:13Right another F-82 but this guy no Spitfire's going after him.

10:18This Spitfire's going after our Spitfire so he's our main target.

10:24Oh he's already oh 0-1-0-9.

10:29It seems I've let someone onto my six. I'm not gonna get out this

10:35right.

10:38P-47 next hopefully that'll do a bit better.

10:42Oh can we yeah there we go. Oh no we're still here.

10:47Sometimes you can respawn quick enough or click to respawn it'll just disappear

10:51before crashing. I don't know if that helps either.

10:54I'm not going to take any rockets or bombs

10:58because that will slow us right down and not something I want at the moment.

11:05Now usually I use the P-47 as a ground attack aircraft it's only recently I've

11:09stopped putting bombs on it and it is a very

11:12nice aircraft um you know it's very good I've heard a lot

11:16of people saying it's very good they've had they've got like ridiculous

11:19kill death ratios with this thing I could never understand why

11:21like even after I dropped my bombs and rockets it was

11:25just felt really slow and oh no the enemy are going for our

11:28base right gotta stop them. That's the annoying thing if they start

11:33capturing it and then they're stopped it will still

11:35at least take it off of you rather than you know reset.

11:40I'm meant to use this as a boom and zoom not a turn fighter but

11:45since he was doing a you know being a good target.

11:53Right a few shots off and turn and dive.

11:59Right combat flaps just to keep us off the ground. I'm not going to turn fight

12:03him obviously because that would be stupid but

12:06I want to get in a position where he's got you know turn around

12:10fully you know make him think I'm going to turn fire and then

12:14fly away at full speed.

12:19See if I can't get this guy.

12:23Yep it's long range shooting but

12:28yeah he's on fire I'm gonna let him burn out before I get myself drawn into any

12:32and yeah another assist but you know like I said I'd rather than dead and

12:36be alive you know I'm not going to chase the enemies down to the

12:40edge of the earth and get myself killed in the process for one

12:43kill. I'm quite happy taking the assist.

12:48Right so we've got we've protected B well almost should I go for A?

12:56I mean obviously I'm going to protect A or cover A but I can't

13:00I'm not gonna that's the annoying thing about taking the high tier aircraft I

13:03never want to risk them in a landing but obviously yeah

13:07somebody's got to land and

13:11may have to be me right.

13:15Now I don't keep the landing flaps deployed permanently because

13:19that produces quite a lot of lift but you know just for win.

13:24Trying to lose speed.

13:28I've got to try and do evasive maneuvers while

13:32being shot at and landing yeah like I said there's a reason I that's

13:37the reason I don't generally try to land with my higher tier

13:41aircraft because it just goes horribly wrong. I should have

13:44stayed in the air and

13:47really fought off the enemy but maybe I can

13:52somewhat redeem myself. Again this one's got oh god it's hard to

13:57this is really hard to control. We've got these little debris things and

14:02yeah I'll get a good fire few of the battle.

14:05Going to speed not A that was not as far as I thought.

14:09I'm not going to actually go head-on with him but we could get a few bullets

14:13into him maybe start a lucky fire.

14:18Right let's pick up some speed pretty quick.

14:22You know at least make him think he's under attack I mean he knows he's under

14:25attack but you know you might rush and do something

14:28silly. Oh god I didn't see him at all.

14:36It feels like it's weird when that people you stealth ammo just looks like

14:40they're exploding. Oh no no no no that's not good not good.

14:47This gun isn't particularly great but when the enemy's capping you fire

14:50everything you have at them. The good thing about these lower tier

14:54aircraft they're quite good at turning.

14:58Which the enemy higher tiers have a lot of trouble dealing with.

15:03I suppose that's where the trolling bit comes in well some people think it's

15:07trolling. I'm not even aiming properly am I?

15:11All right gear down yeah we crashed but oh aircraft destroyed.

15:17Hercules oh that's good Beowulf as well wow I've got it was like

15:237,000 for the first one 5,000 12,000 silver lions for one kill.

15:31Oh maybe that's the oh wait got bombs uh yeah maybe that's another reason

15:37why it's seen as trolling. Um we're gonna keep the bombs actually

15:40just for the minute we only lose five miles an hour and

15:45they're only tiny bombs I'm gonna just you know drop a few on the airfield

15:48just in case you know maybe I'll get there and then

15:52enemies capping won't be able to take them down with my machine guns but

15:55hopefully I can give them a nasty surprise with the bombs

15:59and be a hell of a laugh at least.

16:04Check out the telescope on here. I love how

16:08looking through a telescope just eliminates the engine noise.

16:11Right put yourself in some little isolation chamber when you look through

16:16there. Right I don't know if he's landed or not

16:20but

16:23oh yep he is I probably misjudged that completely.

16:32Oh the bombs were just great. Oh so it's not like the I was wondering

16:37if it's going to be like the tank one um

16:40tank game mode break uh it's something similar to this but as soon as you

16:44lose your airfield um the whole game ends like it just

16:48you know instant loss for the uh team who lost their base but it seems

16:54this is more like traditional uh airfield domination

16:59barely it's going a lot faster than I expected to though

17:02um seems to be in between the tank mode and the whole airfield domination because

17:07yeah it's not an instant loss but it's not exactly

17:11going down very slow I think we're gonna lose this match yeah

17:15lost most of our team I'm pretty much you know I'm the only person left well

17:22we're gonna go down we're gonna go down fighting

17:27not obviously I'm not just gonna make it easy for them that'd be stupid

17:32oh uh slow too soon all right see if we can at least ah damn it

17:38I suppose at those speeds we were never gonna

17:40recover that might as well just wait for the

17:44timer to run out oh oh we have still got someone left

17:48we'll see how long they last against the entire might of the enemy air force

17:56apparently not very long um although to be fair I didn't last much

18:01longer than the rest of our team all right just wait for the timer to go

18:08whether they got all our planes I don't know I think they pretty much did

18:13so we got Hercules Beowulf oh it was 2000 not 7000

18:18so we came out of that with 20 000 silver lions um

18:22and as you can see the inefficient research really hampers things

18:26you know uh that was 985 but then 72 705 um but we got Beowulf and Hercules and

18:33professional too so we did quite well uh what did we get

18:38got the engine injection for the f2a which I've been meaning to do for a long time

18:45because I've been compensated for it all I had to do is fly one battle but I could never

18:48be bothered to take it out so I'm just gonna buy that now

18:52but um yeah hopefully that was a good episode um you know I hope you enjoyed it hopefully you

18:57hope you got a bit of a insight into the new game mode

19:00uh it's not the best episode in the world but I wanted to do some sort of gameplay commentary

19:04haven't done one in such a long time and you know with this coming out seemed like a good
