Is Brendan Rodgers Right to Blame Rangers for Old Firm Lockout ? The Football Show LIVE

  • last month
s Brendan Rodgers right to blame Rangers for Old Firm fan lockout at Celtic Park? Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers clarified that the decision is entirely a "Rangers thing" and not something involving Celtic. Rodgers emphasized that the situation stems from actions taken by Rangers, stating, "It's not a Celtic-Rangers thing. This is a Rangers thing."

Rodgers elaborated on the efforts made by Celtic to accommodate fans, explaining that the club has invested time and resources into ensuring that the stadium is safe and ready for both sets of supporters. However, despite these efforts, an agreement between the two clubs has not been reached. "Celtic, when even they're asked to have this agreement to make the stadium safe and everything else, we plough money into that, we do the works, which started months ago," Rodgers explained. He further mentioned that the failure to reach a mutual agreement has led to the current situation where both sets of supporters are being locked out of each other's stadiums for the upcoming matches.

Rodgers expressed disappointment over the missed opportunity for fans to experience the full atmosphere of the Old Firm derby. "I'm clearly disappointed for both sets of supporters because it's been a long time now since we had a decent allocation for both clubs," he stated. Despite the frustrations, Rodgers remains hopeful that future discussions will lead to a resolution that allows fans from both sides to attend these iconic matches.

Meanwhile, Rangers boss Philippe Clement also shared his thoughts, noting that while he was not directly involved in the discussions, he believes that having both sets of fans present would enhance the experience. "I hope for football games always that there are two sets of fans," Clement said, acknowledging the importance of fan presence for the overall footballing experience.

00:00:00Welcome to PLZ Soccer's football show and I'm Peter Martin, Alan Ruff and Tam Hiepmanis
00:00:09are with me. Thank you very much for joining us on our YouTube channel. Don't forget to
00:00:13hit that subscribe button and join the football family. And as ever, Tam's favourite catchphrase
00:00:18wherever you are, we are. It's as simple as that. We're out at games, we've got managers
00:00:22and players reaction and over and above that. If you download the app, you'll get all the
00:00:27breaking news at your fingertips. So there is lots to talk about. I'm really looking
00:00:32forward to your thoughts. The highs and lows of it all have to be discussed because last
00:00:38night we were hoping that maybe two of the clubs could get through in European football.
00:00:43In the end, we got one through and that was Komarnik. St Mirren fell foul of SK Brand
00:00:49over in Norway. It ended up 3-1, 4-2 on aggregate. This is what Steven Robinson had to say at
00:00:57that defeat. Our defending was poor for the goals. We have to be honest with that. They
00:01:01punished us but we have to defend better whatever level we're playing at. We've had a taste
00:01:06of that now and we want more of it. We've enjoyed it. We've enjoyed the experience.
00:01:11Absolutely gutted for St Mirren but in the end there was always that sense, always that
00:01:16feeling that they had that little extra bit of quality. Yeah, but I thought I won each.
00:01:22You know, I thought we'd maybe hang on for the last 10 minutes and then it can happen
00:01:26in an extra time but that wasn't to be. They were pressing for it but I think the players
00:01:32will be enjoyed the experience of being there but the disappointment, we'll have to wait
00:01:37and see how that pans out if the players can pick them up and take themselves on for the
00:01:41rest of the season. Yeah, I mean he's right in what he's saying about the goals. I was
00:01:46watching the goals and it was painful actually. The first one was just such an easy pass into
00:01:53the back of the net and I think he'll be so angry because there were so many St Mirren
00:01:58players in the box. Yeah, I mean the guy's standing himself. He's got tonnes of space
00:02:02to put the ball in the net and as you said St Mirren defended it poorly. I won each as
00:02:06Ruffey said. I thought St Mirren could have held on maybe extra time, penalties. You never
00:02:10know what can happen but I think the last 10-15 minutes they just tired. I think Bran
00:02:15got on top of the game in the last 10-15 minutes and got the goals and in my opinion deservedly
00:02:19went through. I thought they were the better team over the two legs. St Mirren now lost
00:02:236 goals in 2 games. 3-1 up at Aberdeen and 3 last night. I think they'll be disappointed
00:02:30they're out of Europe but I think now they can just focus on domestic because like Kermarnock
00:02:34they've struggled. We're playing Thursday and Sunday and they don't have that now. Yeah,
00:02:39absolutely but when you get a little taste of it and certainly I have to say great credit
00:02:43Ruffey to the St Mirren fans. They certainly got behind their team. They certainly thoroughly
00:02:48enjoyed that little taste of it and they'll be looking. Sometimes you set the bar. You
00:02:54raise the expectation and they want more of it. Yeah, I mean we can see that even in the
00:02:58home games. They turn up there much more than what they used to. They're bought into everything
00:03:05that's been happening in the club, all the success that the club had and every supporter
00:03:09wants to go abroad. You just want to go away and taste the atmosphere and everything and
00:03:13they certainly were there in numbers. Yeah, absolutely and knowing a good few of my mates
00:03:18from Paisley and my days of living there, £12 a pint won't have gone down well. Yeah,
00:03:23I'm cutting my pals over there and that was a big thing. It was very expensive and Iceland
00:03:28before that was two skinners for you to go over to the games and the guy I know went
00:03:33over to both so I think you'll be toasting beans for the next couple of months. Yeah,
00:03:37absolutely. It's a great place to live but expensive as well Ruffey which maybe you won't
00:03:42know. Paisley is a fantastic place to live may I add but certainly an eye opener. You
00:03:56used to have a fantastic nightlife as well. Anyway, I digress. How we managed to get onto
00:04:01Paisley nightlife I'll never know. If there was the low of Paisley there's a high of Comarnach
00:04:06and they're through. 1-0 against Tromso. This is what Derek McInnes made of it all.
00:04:13I've said this before, they thought they'd won food in the next round. I don't think they were
00:04:18disrespectful but I could sense that they thought the job was done at Rugby Park last week and they
00:04:23just needed to turn up. Thankfully we turned up and made a result for us and that is absolutely
00:04:29magnificent because that's what you're looking for. Joe Wright's goal, obviously suggestion of
00:04:35a wee bit of an own goal in it but who cares it's in. Once it went in I thought they defended
00:04:40particularly well. I thought the two wide guys, Ibi Armstrong and Kennedy, they hadn't been playing
00:04:48in the games before leading up to it. They were the outlet. Whenever you get possession of the
00:04:54ball give it to them, let them take it up the park, kill some time. The game went on, they
00:04:58huffed and puffed but I think well done to Comarnach. I really do think the Comarnach
00:05:03defence when they all play collectively together they're quite a hard defence to be. I think the
00:05:08boy Mayo and Finlay are really resolute when they're playing well. They were pivotal to
00:05:14Devon that happened and you can just see the celebrations after it, how much it meant to the
00:05:19backroom staff and everybody and good luck to them. Let's hope they won't have a draw yet
00:05:25but let's hope they get a favourable draw because that was a fair old jaunt for the supporters.
00:05:30It's next week, it's Denmark, it's Copenhagen, it's a tough one but we want to celebrate and
00:05:36it's only right and proper that we celebrate them getting over it but now Copenhagen at the best of
00:05:43times have been a Champions League group stage team. Yes, that'll be a very, very hard game
00:05:48for Comarnach but they'll be happy to get into the play-off round, they're one tie away from
00:05:54getting into the group stages Peter and you never know over two legs what can happen. FC Copenhagen
00:05:58are overwhelming favourites but I didn't think Comarnach would get through this tie and have
00:06:03done that. Joe Wright had an absolute shocker at the weekend, gave away a goal, sent off and then
00:06:10scores a winner last night and keeps a clean sheet. That just shows you the ups and downs of
00:06:14being a footballer in basically four or five days. Yes, absolutely. Thanks to so many of you who are
00:06:20watching the live but if you don't catch the live of course thousands and thousands of you
00:06:24are from near and far picking up on our show at your own leisure, at your own time whether it be
00:06:30looking at it on the app or indeed on the YouTube channel and we're really delighted for that and
00:06:34we not only bring you the football programmes right across seven days we do indeed bring you
00:06:40all the managers and players reaction and interviews as well so it is well worth hitting
00:06:45that subscribe button. Thanks to Tommy who joins us from Thailand, we've even got someone from the
00:06:51sunlit uphills of Cumbernauld, that just worries me because you're the only one with a house on a
00:06:58hill in Cumbernauld and he's clearly realising you're here in the studio so you're in big trouble
00:07:04and here's a great one from James Wright who sent us a message and said Peter can you ask
00:07:09Ruffey what was going on with the Tromso keeper coming out to the halfway line, was that arrogance
00:07:14or tactical? I was going to say I hope he said James said I was hoping that one of the
00:07:21Killie players would lob the ball because that's always the fear. Well that happened though it was
00:07:25David Marshall, when your team is pushing up you know with the goalkeeper pushing up as well
00:07:33yeah you just it's not the first time we've seen somebody with the insight you know to see him off
00:07:39his line and having a shot for the halfway line but you've got to have the ability to do that I
00:07:43mean Charlie did it didn't he Charlie Adam? Oh Charlie used to do it for Chelsea Stoke.
00:07:50I mean there's a lot of players have it in their makeup that they know they just have a wee look
00:07:55to see where you are I mean in my day it used to be Andy Ritchie. Yeah he was fantastic.
00:08:00Just have a shot for the halfway line. Which reminds me by the way someone asked us if we
00:08:04can do a tribute video I think they're having a tribute night for him over in Greenock so
00:08:08we'll need to do that because he's one of my if you were talking about the 80s he's one of my
00:08:12favourite players if I was I was listing my top 20 he's in it he's just a genius wasn't he? Yeah I
00:08:19think anybody who's in that era who saw Andy playing knew that he was so far ahead of his
00:08:25time you know technically gifted yeah could do an outside of the foot whatever you know but
00:08:30a wee way ahead of his time obviously he's what would you say his body didn't go his ability?
00:08:40Yeah well let's not knock it I modelled my entire game on him a lack of movement but the other thing
00:08:47I was going to say to you is lots of people mentioned to us you know about great for Kelly
00:08:54getting through there so it's absolutely fantastic lots to discuss elsewhere as well
00:09:00Johnny says I remember Andy Ritchie when he played for Motherwell too yep absolutely he actually
00:09:06chucked the game far too early far too early we love players like that for the younger generation
00:09:12who don't remember he's just unbelievably skillful okay so commiserations to St Mirren well
00:09:19done Kelly that's the European situation out of the way lots of things to discuss as far as the
00:09:25Premier Sports Cup this weekend but a few things that I want to get your thoughts on first of all
00:09:31Old Firm ban on away supporters Celtic will not supply any tickets to away fans for the Old Firm
00:09:38on September 1st that's amid fears that Ibrox will not be ready for the corresponding fixture
00:09:43at Ibrox and so it continues this tit-for-tat this is what Brendan Rodgers had to say today
00:09:50he was fairly scathing on it all the blast starts with the club's job is to protect the support and
00:09:57if there's not the guarantee then if that's not the guarantee then come the second fixture
00:10:03then I think it's only logical that you wouldn't reciprocate Celtic have played their part in what
00:10:09they've been asked to do none of this was Celtic's issue nothing when you go back to when this all
00:10:14started it had nothing to do with Celtic Celtic gets dragged into this as it's being a Celtic
00:10:20Rangers thing it's not a Celtic Rangers thing this is a Rangers thing so there's undoubtedly
00:10:28more than a few people will have something to say on the Brendan Rodgers comments on it
00:10:36because we've said it ad nauseum since the start on this whole issue he does have a point
00:10:45initially I don't want anybody to misconstrue what I'm saying here but this whole thing was started by
00:10:52Hibbs and they restricted Rangers tickets at Easter Road and that set the ball rolling and
00:11:02then Rangers suddenly decided and there was a fair bit of pressure coming from Rangers fans
00:11:07saying listen we want you to limit Celtic fans coming to Ibrox and then they jumped on the
00:11:12bandwagon and then after that you know Celtic reciprocated and said well if you're going to cut
00:11:17our allocation then we're certainly not going to be giving you 7,000 Rangers fans at Celtic Park
00:11:23and there we go the whole bandwagon starts again yeah this is where we are now Peter this is what
00:11:29it's all started from as you said and I think in terms of of Rangers I think that they were tired
00:11:35of of getting heavily defeated at Ibrox and that whole stand party I think that was a part of it
00:11:40as well Peter and Brendan's right it was a Rangers thing it's nothing to do with Celtic Rangers have
00:11:44started it Celtic have obviously said well if they're not giving us tickets we're not giving
00:11:47them tickets I think in terms of the here and now in terms of Ibrox maybe not been ready for the
00:11:53for the home game in when's it just January January I think Celtic are within the rights to
00:11:59to say you know we need guarantees if there's no guarantees it's going to be ready then you're
00:12:03not going to get any any tickets for for Parkhead so I don't think Celtic are in the wrong here I
00:12:08think Brendan's maybe took it a little bit extreme there but I think that he is right it is it has
00:12:12always been a Rangers thing but I think this this particular one is a safety thing is it no
00:12:18yeah absolutely I think Rangers and Celtic got into the agreement a way back that they would put
00:12:23in safety precautions for both sets of fans when they go to either stadium I think Celtic have done
00:12:29that I think there was pictures put out of the how they're going to segregate the fans and a new exit
00:12:34is going to be made and blah blah blah and according to Celtic they've done their bit for this game
00:12:39and Rangers haven't they done their bit obviously Rangers have got other things to worry about the
00:12:43the stand getting fixed and everything moving to another so that probably has it been high up in
00:12:48their their theory to do get it fixed so I think I think in this occasion it's Celtic have done
00:12:54something about it and seen Rangers have done nothing to help the safety of this game so they've
00:12:59just said well it's not going to happen then so we're we're going to do likewise well well Brendan
00:13:04goes on and he said it's quite a lengthy point that was the main crux of it there but he did say
00:13:09so when Celtic were asked to have this agreement to make the stadium safe we plough money into it
00:13:14we do this work which started months ago like I said on both parties it hasn't been agreed
00:13:20the agreement hasn't been upheld I think Celtic have the right to protect their supporters
00:13:24and the club and sadly the Rangers support miss out on this game and Celtic in the return game
00:13:29but let's hope after that we can find a way to let the support in and of course obviously the
00:13:35SPFL have released a statement acknowledging the fact that you know for two games they're
00:13:41going to miss out but they say that you know they will after these two games have passed
00:13:49return to an allocation hopefully of five percent of the respective stadiums capacity for away
00:13:54supporters which will mean that you get around two and a half thousand but as I said before
00:14:02you know that the point here is quite simply because of the way Scottish football operates at
00:14:09the moment unless you get rules in place that forces the hand and takes it away from either
00:14:17club or any other club who wants to go through this crazy process we've witnessed it at Hearts
00:14:23last week we witnessed it at Hibs with empty seats you know that apparently all the Hearts
00:14:30and Hibs fans were going to fill and they didn't and now we've witnessed this I tell you one thing
00:14:37though I would not like to be 750 Rangers fans or 750 Celtic fans or even I think two and a half
00:14:46thousand Rangers or Celtic fans in the away end at any of these grounds because it's going to be
00:14:52very difficult to police it very difficult to make it safe without you know putting it I think
00:15:00a lot of fans in jeopardy of flying objects yeah that's the issue Peter it's the safety of the
00:15:08supporters it's not the numbers it's come 800, 2,000, 5,000 you need to guarantee safety because
00:15:14you're in the minority going to an away stadium your biggest rivals so that's what it's boiling
00:15:19down to Peter and you're right listen a lot of fans would love it you know going to Lions Den
00:15:24you know maybe the 800 fans going in it's a bit of a scamble for tickets a lot of supporters would
00:15:27want to go but a lot would be worried about going and worried about safety worries about things
00:15:32getting thrown worried about you know the aftermath of the game if their team lost so
00:15:37let's hope obviously in the next couple of games it's not going to happen but let's hope after
00:15:41that they can get their heads together and get the full allocation back eventually. As Peter said it
00:15:47needs the authorities to step in here and show some something some bit of saying right this is
00:15:55I said to you at the start when they stopped it when they stopped the fans going I said to you
00:16:00watch what happens I said to you over a year ago on this program I said watch what happens
00:16:06they'll ban the supporters they'll restrict them to 750 then they'll come back after they've stopped
00:16:11the whole 7,000 fans in one end in 7,000 at Ibrox after that's been stopped what they'll do is
00:16:20they'll eventually be forced into a situation where somebody will intervene and then we'll get
00:16:25to two and a half thousand I remember saying it to you I said they'll give us a token situation
00:16:30where both sets of fans now have two and a half thousand rather than the seven thousand and by
00:16:36the way sometimes as you know people don't really get the timeline or the actual facts in order
00:16:44and Tam says here I love how they always ignore the truth when it comes to Rangers
00:16:49we sold more season tickets 4,000 to be exact and they sit in that stand listen Tam we're not
00:16:56debating that they sit in that stand it's the timeline of when they were actually banned from
00:17:01selling that full end to Celtic yeah because obviously they made a decision to
00:17:07to let their own fans sit in that area rather than Celtic fans still getting the same money
00:17:11but that was a start that was the start of the tit-for-tat where Celtic went well we're not
00:17:14getting away support you're not getting a park head so that's where it started from yes it's
00:17:17fine it's okay now that they're in they're sitting there now but it was the decision to
00:17:22to ban Celtic fans which led to that decision for that to be Rangers supporters in that stand
00:17:26yeah absolutely I would love to see it returned the only way that will happen
00:17:33even after the next two games which again you know you have to look and say well if there's
00:17:37no guarantee if there's not a steadfast guarantee you can understand why Celtic are taking this
00:17:42stance but after that once Rangers eventually get the stand in order I think they will quickly
00:17:51find out roughly that two and a half thousand is even more difficult to police by trying to
00:17:56section off a proportion of the stand you know they're talking about putting a big net up aren't
00:18:01they putting a net up yes I don't know and then you have to move sets of fans back a bit so I
00:18:07don't know how many seats you're losing in doing that but I mean to get away from you that's in
00:18:12the stadium it's outside the stadium most of the trouble is yeah well coming in and leaving you
00:18:17know so I don't know how you police that I don't know how you make that that better I'd be interested
00:18:22I would be interested to to know the fans theory of are they happy getting into their own stadium
00:18:30and no getting to away game no getting to the wing are they quite happy to give that up
00:18:37and not being allowed to go to the Rangers or the Celtic away games yeah so you say you know what
00:18:42would you prefer what would you are you quite happy to get a ticket for your home game and not
00:18:47get to an away game what about you Tom I think I think the away support want to go to Ibrox want
00:18:53to go to Parkhead you know want to go into the Lions den and see their team winning so I'm not
00:18:59so sure I think you know getting that full away support back at Rangers and Celtics it would be
00:19:05huge for the game I think the supporters would want it as well yeah can't we go back into that
00:19:09stupid voting system that we have in our country on a whatsapp group no well they say the SPFL SFA
00:19:18whoever say right let's all get together we're going to make a rule out here you've got to give
00:19:2210 percent well this is let's vote on it listen and is it still going to be 11-1 yeah yeah yeah
00:19:30absolutely and I think actually I did read one of the comments there that should that said they
00:19:35should be forced to go 10 percent I think he's right I think it's I think it's right I mean
00:19:40lots of we've got lots of people uh who are Rangers and Celtic fans on our feed as well
00:19:45and lots of people who watch the program who've got an opinion on it we value them all there's
00:19:49there's a just a quite simply a situation here which is not ideal I think a lot of fans are
00:19:55missing out on it I don't know about you but I just thought it I just thought it made it uniquely
00:20:00one of the best atmospheres it's one of the top derbies in the world um you know as far as being a
00:20:07spectacle when you had the 7,000 in I don't think that magic is there anymore I don't I mean if
00:20:14you're talking about bucket lists we always talk about what's in your bucket list and one of them
00:20:18was to go and see Bocca Juniors River Plate you know because of that the volatile atmosphere
00:20:25you know I don't even know what the standard of football is going to be like but right now
00:20:30you know we haven't really witnessed what I would call some of the classic old firm games with a
00:20:36top draw standard do you know what I mean it's the it's not a great fixture because of the wonderful
00:20:42football yes it's the atmosphere in the you know in the game and it's 100 mile an hour in the drama
00:20:49because these have got so much on them because they're until the last 10 years have been
00:20:54usually title deciders you know it's usually been tight in terms of both teams going for the league
00:20:59um no no but honestly I think that the getting that getting that full stand back
00:21:03uh is huge you know Celtic when the goal goes in they're shooting into that end the
00:21:08the noise and explosion of colour and everything and the same with Rangers at Parkhead when they
00:21:12score down at that end you know and the Rangers players run to their fans that's what makes a
00:21:16fixture for me yeah the other thing that William Smith actually made a very good point which is
00:21:20would Celtic be able to get a 60-40 at Hamden if Ibrox is still not available by January
00:21:26well who would set the rule for that well you would need to come out and say
00:21:30you know you would need to come out and say look this is of course on the basis that right now I
00:21:34think many Rangers fans believe that when the construction work is finished they'll be back in
00:21:39by what November nobody knows Peter nobody knows the pace of how the work's going you know I see
00:21:47videos all the time and they look as if they're working away and it's getting they're making
00:21:51progress but you don't know how how far away they are from getting that completed so yeah
00:21:56I think they'll definitely be in by January and I think November might be a push I think
00:22:00around about you know Christmas time I think December maybe they'll get them back in yeah
00:22:04Rangers will want them back in for the festive fixtures and I'm not going to criticise builders
00:22:08Tam because as you know you know sometimes people say to me you've got horror stories with builders
00:22:14but I'm not going to criticise them because our builders come in here Ruffy built the studios
00:22:19in double jig time and um they were up they were absolutely magnificent and
00:22:24and all 17 of them were all Rangers fans
00:22:29and they were working union jacks all of them I do not care as long as they finished it I
00:22:34didn't mind Ruffy they were sensational well and after they finished here they did the rest of the
00:22:40yeah
00:22:44well the funny thing is the funny thing is
00:22:49the funny thing is when the when the guy who owned the company came in and he looked around
00:22:53the the first part of the build and he looked he went I don't think they're going to like the
00:22:58Henrik Larsen room um but uh yeah I mean listen uh it's we'll wait and see how it all pans out
00:23:05there is a blue room as well there is a blue room yeah Barry Ferguson room whatever happened
00:23:10um anyway apart from anything else that's uh how it's all shaping up uh with the tit for tat at
00:23:17the moment just a couple of little bits of news before we get on to the fixtures um Celtic
00:23:21apparently knocking back a 21 and a half million bid for Matt O'Reilly again another bid knock back
00:23:27the fifth apparently from Atalanta yeah they don't seem to want to let it go I'm surprised
00:23:33it's not an English team you know fancy them because uh he has got a pedigree now you know
00:23:38we're playing that great year with Celtic you know just on the fringe of the Denmark national
00:23:43side can I mean the money the money is nothing to them 21 Ruffy look at the date it's the 16th of
00:23:52August it's the last it's the last week I I can honestly I can write the script on this
00:24:00if he moves next week I'll be gobsmacked he's going in the last week well depending I think
00:24:07Celtic wanting at least 25 million for him it looks as if they want 25 million and they've I
00:24:12think they started at 10 and they've worked up to 21 and a half so there's time for them to get to
00:24:16that 25 uh these teams like Atlanta the last week these teams like Atlanta selling players for 75
00:24:23million no there's one there's one deal that they're waiting on to get through some of them
00:24:27that's the bracket that the Spanish and the Italian team seem to be working in the now so
00:24:31why shouldn't they yeah they hold it whether you get it or not is a different matter absolutely
00:24:36wouldn't like to be the player boy who's sitting there wondering what's happening well he's in he's
00:24:41in a good position because quite simply he can stay at Celtic if he wants I don't think I don't
00:24:46think he's in any rush I think if Atlanta's obviously a big club but I think he'd be
00:24:50rushed to go to Atalanta in Italy I think he'd be done well they were in the well listen aye
00:24:55but I think if some of the other clubs were talking about Liverpool and Chelsea and teams
00:24:59like that I think then he would be itching I mean obviously from down south so
00:25:04what will be will be but I think that I don't see I don't see him I don't see
00:25:09I'd be quite happy to give you a hundred thousand a week no I'm quite happy here
00:25:13just let me hang about he knows he knows he knows he's well paid at Celtic
00:25:18anything can happen to a player you know it's it's injuries and yeah loss of form and
00:25:24anything can happen listen he's still in a job you've got to do your job you're getting paid
00:25:28for it every week oh he's very professional and everything he's done he's looks as if he's
00:25:33he's handling his other I mean there has been other players through the year of just
00:25:36down tools big Bobo Baldy sat in the stand 28 grand a week I'll just say where's my seat
00:25:45I think there's a plaque there now yeah I see you didn't drop in dropped in a wee Doris Day there
00:25:51what was that wee Doris Day song what will be will be you know well done Tam in case there is
00:25:58Myofsky could get up to nine million for Aberdeen with add-ons
00:26:02but he's away Girona brilliant deal for him and we'll hear from Jimmy Tillian shortly
00:26:09also Hibbs another bid for MacEwan you said 750 they're looking for a million yeah
00:26:15that's what I've heard from a good source I think they're looking for a million pound
00:26:19what from Luke not from Luke he's got a contract end of the season I think that's
00:26:25unbelievable money for Hibbs to pay they've obviously got it to bid that amount of money
00:26:31and I think if they got him in I think their squad would be excellent Venti away I noticed you
00:26:37Venti's away didn't work out for him you know I know as a striker sometimes at clubs it just
00:26:42doesn't work out for you you'll probably go back to Holland and bang goals in again it's just he
00:26:47started well at Hibbs up front with Adam Lafondra I thought the two of them looked good together
00:26:51Lafondra got injured and he just lost his way a little bit he's had a poor start to the season
00:26:56he's running out the team and I think for Hibbs you know to get him probably decent money as well
00:27:02and sign them for a few quid I think 700 grand to get his wage off the wage bill I think frees up
00:27:07maybe money for Luke MacEwan on another striker to come in but there's been a lot of sends and
00:27:11outs I think David Gray's starting to shape the squad now for the way he wants it yeah
00:27:15Hearts are doing well they've signed a 21 year old Colombian left back Andres Salazar
00:27:19season-long loan from Atletico Nacional wow they've had a busy summer haven't they
00:27:26well it started off you know it was home-based players you know and quite rightly so you know
00:27:30I think some of them have got something to offer you know in the years ahead but still delving into
00:27:35the market for foreign players that must have a good director of football who's out there assisting
00:27:40these kind of players yeah absolutely okay just before we get to the Premier Sports Cup you know
00:27:47how Tam has a wonderful after dinner act where he goes through all the teams that he's played for
00:27:54and the misery that he causes because he's a Jonah Dunfermline are up for sale
00:28:01but this time around I mean I'm gobsmacked because James McPake you know clearly doesn't
00:28:09have any great certainty of what signing if at all he's going to be able to make
00:28:14and he thinks they're going to struggle in the division but the German football investment
00:28:18group Fußball GmbH they've put Dunfermline up for sale and this is the this is the classic
00:28:25Ruffey citing supporter negativity following a poor start to the season and a perceived lack
00:28:31of summer signings it's not a perceived lack it's a lack and and they've gone on to say
00:28:38many seem to prefer an investor who has deep pockets to throw at the first team
00:28:42we said from the start that we are not this kind of investor and therefore have detected an
00:28:46increasing disappointment in our approach perhaps therefore we are not the right kind of investor
00:28:51in the eyes of many at this club now with all due respect Ruffey if you invest in a company
00:28:57you expect that company to be able to spend to speculate to accumulate to build why have an
00:29:03investor in the first place? As I say when I was at Partick Thistle Jim Leishman introduced me to
00:29:09the Germans you know and they're just taking over they all had big ideas as most of these
00:29:15people have you know we had at Partick Thistle where a guy from I can't remember where it was
00:29:19now come in and told us he was going to take Partick Thistle to another level you know and
00:29:24it was this and there was that we we don't invest you know we give you young players from our club
00:29:29and and all that stuff and a load of baloney you know so I mean Dunfermline bought into them
00:29:35thinking they were investing you know because immediately when you get an outside investor
00:29:39coming in everybody thinks oh he's pocket full of money he's going to do this he's going to do that
00:29:44I do think Dunfermline are a team who are waiting to explode but they need the right people there
00:29:50you know to take them to another level I agree with you James hasn't been given the right
00:29:55you know to bring in the players that some of the other teams are bringing in particularly like
00:29:59the likes of Air United and Partick Thistle have brought in a few good quality players as well but
00:30:04James hasn't been dealing in that market so I think you just have to be wary of foreign
00:30:11outside investors you have to try and see what they are saying and believe you have to believe
00:30:18whether they are there for the best interests of the club because they're not going to make money
00:30:22I don't like you saying foreign Robbie I think any investor all right okay yeah you're right
00:30:26any investor you don't it could be down in England it could be anywhere you know you just have to
00:30:30worry if they've got the true interests of the club at heart well Inverness were the same I think
00:30:34Inverness have been a bit of a mess in the last couple of months and they had rumoured someday
00:30:39something outside investor was coming in to take over the club and they've pulled out
00:30:43the last minute I think the guy Alan Savage is back the guy from up there so
00:30:47Ruffey's right you need to you need to do your due diligence on people coming in
00:30:52but Dunfermline played with Dunfermline in the Premier League and we were getting seven eight
00:30:55thousand at the game you know and even the championship I remember going there and they'd
00:30:59won the league and the stand was full so they're a big club they're like a Falkirk they're a big town
00:31:04and you know they probably should be in the Premier League but they look a million miles of it and
00:31:10the Dunfermline fans will not be slowing letting the team and the board know if things are not going
00:31:15well because they are bottom of the league at the minute. I remember this again when I was at Patrick Thistle and up in the stand
00:31:20and Dunfermline were going through a bad time I can't remember who the chairman was
00:31:25really nice guy and the pelters. Masterson? Johnny Utson? No no it's after that
00:31:34turned on him. There's no escape because you need to go by there
00:31:40it was embarrassing so they are a team with a tradition a long time ago you know playing
00:31:46Europe and doing all these things so that some of the fans have an expectation that
00:31:52they shouldn't be in that division they should be a Premier League team but you've got to win games
00:31:56every season I look at them and I go I look at their support and I look at the setup
00:32:01they've got and I say they've got to be top four at least but they've never been anywhere
00:32:05near that. When you were at Dunfermline did you go to Jackie O's? I think I went
00:32:12once I went once after a game but Dunfermline is a nice good wee town and that's not I want all
00:32:19all my old teams to be doing well it's sad to see Dunfermline. You can't have all of them doing well because
00:32:24you know. Not all of them can do well. 27 teams can't win the league. I was at the Falkirk
00:32:30golf day yesterday and there I was playing with three Falkirk fans and they. Did they announce
00:32:34you as a Falkirk legend? No no no no they'll never get relegated there but I was talking to
00:32:40them about Dunfermline and they were saying we want Dunfermline in the league we love they just
00:32:43we played them last week and there was seven and a half thousand there and Falkirk took two and a
00:32:48half thousand there and they want Dunfermline they want to see Dunfermline not doing too well but they
00:32:53want to be in the same league as them so the Falkirk fans do not want me to drop out that
00:32:56league either. Yeah absolutely here's the fixtures for the weekend in the Premier Sports Cup this is
00:33:02how it looks Saturday Aberdeen against Queen's Park, Dundee, Adrianians, Falkirk against Hearts
00:33:08these are three o'clock kickoffs Spartans take on Ross County, Rangers against St Johnson's 5.45
00:33:16and then when you go into the Sunday it's Dundee United against St Mirren, Motherwell against
00:33:20Kilmarnock and Celtic against Hibbs that's all to look forward to of course Rangers against St
00:33:27Johnson it's been a hectic week for Rangers certainly the stand problems go on and the
00:33:35disappointment of losing out on a Champions League group place they were in with a real
00:33:40chance of going on to the next qualifying round until of course GFD was sent off so there's an
00:33:46air of doom and gloom at the moment let's find out what Philippe Clameau had to say with Alison
00:33:53McConnell. Rangers will be looking to bounce back from their contentious dismissal from the
00:33:57Champions League at the hands of Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday night as they host St Johnson at Hamden
00:34:02tomorrow evening and Rangers manager Philippe Clameau has revealed that he sought solace in
00:34:08the documentary 99 about the iconic treble winning season of Manchester United as he looked to come
00:34:15to terms with the exit from the Champions League. A few months ago I saw I don't know if you guys
00:34:20saw that this documentary 99 about Man U I was thinking about that the day after our game
00:34:32so they were really down that first game losing the Cherish Shield against Arsenal 3-0
00:34:41not touching a ball or the feeling not touching the ball but they reacted later on as a team
00:34:46with a lot of young players who had to learn that and with several very important players like Roy
00:34:53Keane guiding them so that's what we need to do the the next weeks the next months to make the
00:35:00story better and better and that's what I've seen also the last three weeks also that the squad is
00:35:05getting better and better. Redvan Yilmaz will miss tomorrow evening's game and he'll miss the
00:35:10next couple of weeks he's expected to be out for up to four to six weeks now with a thigh injury
00:35:14and of course a headache for Philippe Clameau is that the challenge of bringing in players is
00:35:19complicated now by offloading some who have been at the club but who don't have a long-term future
00:35:25with Rangers. Yes that's the case and some of them know it already a really long time
00:35:33and they're still in the building so that makes things more difficult but it is what it is I
00:35:38cannot put a gun on their heads to get them out of the building that's also not the idea.
00:35:45Yeah I'm not sure where Philippe Clameau was going with that with regards to
00:35:53the inspiration of Manchester United in 99 because I know Alan Hansen got found out by saying you're
00:36:01not going to win anything with kids but I don't think he's got enough kids coming through for
00:36:05Rangers to win a treble never mind a single. No I think he's trying to identify a positive moment
00:36:12in football you know and hope that the players can buy into it if that's what he's telling them
00:36:17before they go onto the park you know some managers have different ways of motivating
00:36:22players but if the players buy into it at the end of the day it's what happens on the park
00:36:26they really have to beat St Johnson comfortably. I think the Rangers supporters showed
00:36:32no they don't like Hamden whatever crowd was there at midweek it'll be interesting tomorrow night
00:36:38what kind of crowd turns up to see St Johnson they're not one of the biggest sides
00:36:42but I think he needs a performance and I think he needs a comfortable win three nothing four nothing
00:36:48to get the supporter back on board again. Yeah if anything you know Yilmaz is a blow
00:36:54you wonder if he's going to have any kind of leeway to get a replacement there and there are
00:37:00other players that you know he would look to try and get out but you can't you can't force the
00:37:05likes of Todd Cantwell out the door. No if it Cantwell you've got Hadji there who's still there
00:37:13I think Alex Lowry's still there obviously a younger player but yeah I think there's players
00:37:17there that don't seem to be part of the party's plans and you're right if you've got a contract
00:37:22you know you're well within your rights to sit there and until something suitable comes up either
00:37:26you get paid off by the club or you get a club that you think you want to go and play for so
00:37:32yeah I don't see Rangers beating anybody three or four nothing at the minute and I think they'll
00:37:35be a tough game St Johnson great result down at Camarnet last week you know three nothing
00:37:42I think it's going to be a tough game for them I think they'll win the game but
00:37:45there's a lot of apathy at the minute with Rangers you know I don't think there'll be a
00:37:48big crowd either I think it'll be sparse a game live on the telly as well but a lot of people
00:37:51will just sit in the house and watch it on Saturday night and I think it'll be a real
00:37:56Rangers will need to motivate themselves rather than the fans motivating the team
00:37:59What's your scoreline? I think they'll win it narrowly Peter two one
00:38:04I'm gonna go two nothing I mean listen I'll go two nothing on the basis that I think
00:38:09they have to put on a show and show those signs of what the manager's saying but you know
00:38:16the proof is in the pudding right now I think a lot of Rangers fans have still they're still
00:38:23feeling the pain Ruffey of the injustice of the the red card which kind of sent that game
00:38:28in a different direction and financially I think the board will be feeling that pain now
00:38:33Well he's I think Clermont's already come out there the disappointment
00:38:37not qualifying all good teams have a have a budget and all good teams sit around the table
00:38:44and say look if we get into the Champions League it's x amount of pounds here you are
00:38:48to the manager you've got a fortnight to spend that money because we know it's coming in
00:38:53and he's already went on board to say that money's not there now so my hands are tied
00:38:57that's why he keeps saying I need people out before I can get people in
00:39:01Yeah absolutely let's get a quick update on the headlines now and I think we've got Kerry Pollock
00:39:12In fact we'll come back to that in a moment a couple of seconds later
00:39:16my mistake Hibbs against Celtic second time in a week in the League Cup this time at Celtic Park
00:39:22if anything the Celtic fans will be delighted that Adam Ida has actually returned to Celtic
00:39:30and regardless of that nine and a half million pounds that's been quoted it could be
00:39:36eventually add-ons he's back here saying basically that he's not there to be the
00:39:42backup to Kyogo because he wants to cement his place in the side as a regular
00:39:49Yep and that's that's exactly what you want as a manager you want two top strikers going
00:39:53after it going for one position Peter you know only encourage both to play well
00:39:57I think Kyogo's not really at the start of the season he's started pretty well he's playing well
00:40:01but to have an eight million pound player sitting on the bench breathing down your neck
00:40:07he knows he's got to play well he knows he's got to score goals and if you've got that competition
00:40:11all over the park you know that as a manager it's a dream you know because you know you've
00:40:15if he's not doing it after an hour take him off and put him on so I still think you need another
00:40:19striker yeah I think they probably need another one Peter I don't know who they're going to sign
00:40:22maybe a loan dealer or another striker but I think you need the way Celtic play the two wide men
00:40:28and the one main striker you need three and we spoke about the other day four I think four is
00:40:32too many I think three is a good number it's hard to even keep three happy but I think you need
00:40:37cover in terms of the volume of games that Celtic are going to be playing but no I think that only
00:40:42adds competition to Celtic and makes them stronger in the forward area don't you think particularly
00:40:47at home the way Celtic play with the possession and the ball they've got that they could play
00:40:51two strikers but that's not the way Brendan plays he plays with two wide men and come in the park
00:40:57can you feel that sacrifice somebody at the back or somebody wide to have two goal scorers on the
00:41:02park particularly at home and I'm only saying that because of the possession they have away from home
00:41:07it's different but can you imagine you were in the opposition going there and you pick up the team
00:41:10lines and the two of them are playing I've seen teams this season even this season this early on
00:41:16so Dundee switched to a 4-4-2 in the derby
00:41:19I think Oman are going to the top six be playing two up front
00:41:22and Celtic can easily on that point you're making Ruffey Celtic could easily play a 3-5-2
00:41:29oh of course they could you know because of the possession they've got
00:41:32why would Brendan want to do that
00:41:35surely he'd want to
00:41:36why not he's not rigid every manager can
00:41:38no they can they can but it's a winning formula Brendan Rodgers has played that system since
00:41:42he's came to Celtic and it's been winning so why would he change it
00:41:46I don't think he's going to change it 4-3-3 he plays with two wide men
00:41:49they come inside the two full backs ball them on and you could argue it's three forwards anyway
00:41:52it's three forwards it's two wingers and a striker rather than two strikers
00:41:57he'll argue that's what Brendan will say if you play with three forwards
00:41:59in the amount of possession you've got why do you need four at the back
00:42:03you're never under any pressure
00:42:04they don't really play throughout the back the two full backs push on them
00:42:06probably play two at the back
00:42:08okay your boys the Highbees you've obviously looked at some of the signings
00:42:16I think David Gray deserves time just to try and see if he can mould something together
00:42:22and I really do hope he gets it he's certainly been backed
00:42:26he has and I've got a big bid in for Luke McCown as well so they are getting backed
00:42:31he's got he's got he's got players in I think he's signed eight or nine now Peter
00:42:36I think Venti and Harbottle went out yesterday which maybe frees up money to get another one in
00:42:40but he's reshaping the squad it had to be reshaped Peter the last two two seasons have been bitterly
00:42:45disappointing for him so you had to get players out you had to get players in unfortunately he's
00:42:50ran into a double header against Celtic at the start of the season which you don't want as a
00:42:53manager you just don't want that you want that spaced out but listen they go they go to Celtic
00:42:57Park with no pressure no one no one probably apart from David Gray and maybe some players
00:43:03don't even believe that they can go and get a result at Parkhead but I don't think they will
00:43:07I think Celtic win the game comfortably 2-0. 3-0. You know I think Hibbs possibly learnt their
00:43:15lesson from last week to be a lot tighter. You need to keep it tight the first 15 minutes.
00:43:20If they were to lose a goal the way they lost it last week I would go along with 3-0 but
00:43:25I think it'll be 2-0. 2-0 yeah okay close 2. Comfortable 2. Yeah absolutely before we talk
00:43:31about Falkirk Hearts here's the headlines. Hi there I'm Kerry and today's your daily news update
00:43:35on Friday the 16th of August brought to you by Arnold Clarke. Motherwell welcome back Tony Watt
00:43:40to Fir Park as the striker said he feels he's now home. I'm ready to settle and I'm ready to play and
00:43:46look I'll give it everything so that I can and like I said I've got a bit of making up to do and
00:43:52in a year's time you can look back at these interviews and say right okay he did stay and
00:43:56he did commit his future because that's what I want that's exactly what I want.
00:44:03And Hearts take on Falkirk this weekend in the Premier Sports Cup where Stephen Naismith
00:44:06believes the achievements of John McGlynn's side last season have gone overlooked.
00:44:10It's another one of those moments in Scottish football that he gets a bit of credit for
00:44:16but probably not enough and I think in years to come people will look back and see how good an
00:44:20achievement it was. As the transfer window remains open until the end of the month Dundee United
00:44:24welcome 20-year-old Lucas Stevenson from Liverpool. For all the latest breaking headlines be sure to

00:45:20Hearts one of the features we've got with the CEO of Falkirk Jamie Swinney who caught up with
00:45:27our reporter Patrick Mullen you can see that on our YouTube channel in greater detail where
00:45:33Jamie gives him a little tour of the Falkirk Stadium and their hopes for the future and he also
00:45:40quickly Patrick asked him about that big game against the Jambos. This weekend's a huge game
00:45:45against Harder Midlothian here at Falkirk Stadium. Could you make a little cut from this season?
00:45:51Yeah absolutely I think Hearts are our favourites understandably they're a good side big big club
00:45:55rightfully over the last few years have been kind of figured the third biggest club in Scotland
00:46:00and it'll be a real tough game for us but in my lifetime I've seen us beat Hearts three times in
00:46:05competitions including the famous 4-0 victory at Bravo so I've seen it happen three times I'd
00:46:10like to see it happen for a fourth and I think on our day we'll give them a really good game I'm
00:46:16convinced it will be very competitive I think it'll be a great game of football cracking atmosphere
00:46:21and for me without doubt that the pick of the ties in terms of the round it's a tie of the round
00:46:26and we'd love to love to be in the quarterfinals. Yeah absolutely that's from a Falkirk perspective
00:46:32it certainly is the tie of the round and if you're a real football fan that's where you'll be heading
00:46:36Murphy if you're a someone who wants to follow Scottish football right across the board that's
00:46:40where you go where are you off to?
00:46:46Absolutely I'll be there don't worry about it. Are you going to that? Yeah yeah absolutely.
00:46:50I think that could be a shock I think that could be one of the ones. I think Hearts could get a result.
00:46:58I think the Falkirk support Falkirk team are doing particularly well they have a fantastic atmosphere
00:47:03it'd be great yeah well I said that was it they got the Falkirk golf day yesterday with a lot of
00:47:08just all Falkirk fans and I think they've sold 7,000 tickets for that game I think Hearts have
00:47:12sold out their section but a lot of positivity a lot of confidence from the Falkirk end I think
00:47:1840 league games unbeaten the football they're playing they've started this season well as well
00:47:23I remember being part of a Falkirk team that beat Hearts 4-3 in the league cup
00:47:26a few years ago as well so this is a really really tricky game for Hearts you know they've
00:47:32not got a particularly great record there and Falkirk beat them in the Scottish cup and the
00:47:35league coming by the Scottish cup 4-0 calling Samuel Hattrick they were talking about that
00:47:38yesterday as well so I agree with Ruffey I think Falkirk could cause a wee upset here
00:47:42okay what's an upset? 2-1 to Falkirk 2-1 to Hearts
00:47:49no he's not got the bottle he's just really he's no he does he does it
00:47:52see in the last six months Ruffey you've lost your edge honestly
00:47:56I think it's going to go all the road all the way
00:47:59yeah and Hearts to win no replays or anything like that is it no Hearts to win yeah probably
00:48:04yeah I've got Hearts 2-1 the jambos to win that one
00:48:07you just saying that because you were drinking golf tea yesterday
00:48:09yeah absolutely
00:48:10keep all your Falkirk pals
00:48:11listen that's the Falkirk end of it what about the Hearts end of it here's Kerry
00:48:15it's all about the premier sports cup this weekend as Hearts take on Falkirk tomorrow afternoon
00:48:19Stephen Naismith understands the challenge is going to be something different to what
00:48:22they normally come up against and feels the achievements of John McGlynn's side have gone
00:48:26overlooked from last season
00:48:28it's another one of those moments in Scottish football that he gets a bit of credit for
00:48:34probably not enough and I think in years to come people will look back and see how
00:48:37good an achievement it was
00:48:41I watched quite a bit of Falkirk last season just with some of our players out on loan and
00:48:47they're really impressive the recruitment's really good the type of player they've signed
00:48:51and it was they're similar to his Wraith team from a few years back as well so
00:48:58yeah we know it'll be really tough we know what we're going up against and
00:49:01and yeah we need to be ready for it
00:49:03Cup competition has probably come at a good time for the Gorgies side having picked up just a
00:49:07point in their opening two games of the Premiership season and Stephen Naismith believes that last
00:49:11weekend's defeat to Dundee at Dense Park has opened some players eyes and made them understand
00:49:15what the requirements are at a club like Hearts
00:49:19it gives them an understanding of the demand and the expectation and as I continue to say that
00:49:24we have that conversation with every player that comes in so they've seen it first hand
00:49:27so yeah it gives you that understanding of what needs to be done
00:49:34tomorrow will be a different game it'll be again against a team who are a really good team
00:49:40first of all when they're managed by a very experienced manager
00:49:44it's all or nothing this weekend as Cup competition is up and running once again
00:49:48for all the latest breaking headlines PLZ Soccer will be keeping you up to date across
00:49:51all of our social media platforms
00:49:54Must be sunny in the Aurium by the way Kerry's looking as if she's got a fantastic tan
00:49:59out there in Edinburgh Ruffey that's the place to be and you've been hobnobbing
00:50:02Indigo sun, that's a six minute job in the sunbeds
00:50:05You think so? And you've been hobnobbing it at the festival
00:50:09trying to give yourself a little bit of culture
00:50:12Yes I've been trying to pick up some Scottish themes
00:50:16Grant Stott I believe has got a very good play that you should maybe take in
00:50:21It's a tribute to Andy Gray, not the footballer but the great actor from Scotland
00:50:26I actually went to see the Carole King James Taylor tribute which was very good
00:50:31but there's a lot, it's worth the trip
00:50:35And did you have a croissant and just a little espresso?
00:50:40I think it had to be a double espresso and a wee brandy
00:50:46That's fantastic
00:50:48Obviously just one brandy because Maggie was having four
00:50:54Fantastic
00:50:55You're not really somebody Tam that I think would go to the Edinburgh Festival
00:50:59because obviously there's a restriction on Neds
00:51:04So I can't see it
00:51:05I'll look it up for you
00:51:07I knew you would say that
00:51:09Unless there was an official rave then Tam wouldn't bother
00:51:14Okay, Motherwell Kilmarnock
00:51:17Tony Watt was back there, it was great to see him
00:51:20There is no doubt there was a fallout between him and Jim Goodwin
00:51:24Words undoubtedly have been spoken
00:51:27He wanted to play, he's not going to play
00:51:29I think there's a genuine feeling from Tony that with his wages
00:51:35countless managers have come in and said let's get him off the books
00:51:39And in the end, finally he gets the chance in the final year of his contract at Dundee United
00:51:47to go back to a place where I think a lot of the fans loved him
00:51:50I think there might be a few, I don't know, will they boo him?
00:51:55Off the top of my head I'm trying to remember the circumstances that he left
00:51:59For more money
00:52:00For more money
00:52:02I think he scored against him and gave them a wee gesture
00:52:04which I don't think the Motherwell fans, this is according to my Motherwell supporting friend
00:52:07Were they giving him pelters though?
00:52:09Yeah, up at the time, I think he scored
00:52:10I think they were and I don't mind that
00:52:12Obviously when I play him myself, well they gave Tony Watt dogs abuse
00:52:14and he turned around and scored and gave them a bit back
00:52:16and they went away greeting
00:52:17So, but that's from the Motherwell end
00:52:20I think he's been in the game long enough
00:52:21If the wee ultras are over in the corner and are going to give him pelters
00:52:24he'll just put up with it
00:52:27Because as Tam said, there's that many players have went to teams and fans have went
00:52:31I don't fancy him and then he scores a hat-trick as a hero
00:52:33That's the way football is
00:52:35Am I being unkind?
00:52:36I'm just asking you this because I'm leading you nicely into a little clip
00:52:39Am I being unkind on the basis that I think he's
00:52:43It's not, I mean I summed it up as being a troubled soul
00:52:48where he can't really settle at any club for any great period of time
00:52:53Well, I think if he's a goal scorer, he wants to play every week
00:52:56You know, if he's now in a situation where he feels the manager
00:53:00isn't he going to play him every week
00:53:01and it's not the first time a player's fell out with a manager
00:53:04Yeah
00:53:05So then you've got to say to yourself, well what's the point?
00:53:07If I'm not enjoying my football, why don't I go somewhere else?
00:53:10And unfortunately for Tony, I think it's just happened too often
00:53:14Well that's what I was going to say to you
00:53:15Because he's a player that if he'd been at any particular club for maybe three or four years
00:53:21I think he has a good goal scorer
00:53:22I think he'd have been an even better one
00:53:24If he'd got a manager who, I mean I don't know what goes on behind the scenes
00:53:28Tam will tell you that sometimes if a manager doesn't like you
00:53:31you just don't want to go to training
00:53:33If you're that mentality, you just say I can't be bothered
00:53:35But I don't think Tony is that kind of guy
00:53:37I think he just falls out with people
00:53:39Yeah, I mean I like him as a player
00:53:41I really like him as a person as well
00:53:43But you know, it's just that perception that you get
00:53:46I don't think Stuart Kettlewell or Tony Watt agree with me this morning
00:53:51Troubled souls, a little bit harsh to be honest with you
00:53:54I think Tony's a guy I didn't know particularly well
00:53:57But several people here at the football club did
00:54:00And the one thing that always comes out when you speak to anybody about Tony
00:54:05is that he's a heart of gold and he's a really good human being
00:54:09We have all different types within football
00:54:11Some are vocal, some are quiet lads
00:54:15And it's safe to say that Tony's vocal
00:54:17But I'll be honest with you Peter, it's something that I want in my group
00:54:21I want a bit of personality
00:54:22I know he's done some stuff with our own media here
00:54:25And I think what everybody can see is he's got bottle
00:54:29And one of the things that I always allude to is
00:54:31Or the main thing I allude to, I'm looking for a good football player
00:54:33I'm looking for somebody that I think can have an effect at this football club
00:54:36And if I'm looking at evidence for that, then we've got it
00:54:41I wouldn't say I'm a troubled soul
00:54:42Because the last time at Mullow I had a great time
00:54:45I moved on
00:54:46I'm ready to work hard and it is what it is
00:54:49I'm not the past the past
00:54:52It's all about the future
00:54:53And the managers took a big bit of faith in me
00:54:57I need to repay that
00:54:58And that's it
00:54:59Yeah, happy with your question
00:55:02Well to be fair by the way, the good thing about Tony Watt is
00:55:06He knows the games about opinions
00:55:08He's just got to go out there and score goals
00:55:09I think he will score goals
00:55:11The good thing now is he's getting to that age
00:55:13He doesn't want to leave anywhere
00:55:15He doesn't want to leave that area
00:55:17So he's got a year
00:55:18I think he's got six months
00:55:19Well he's got a chance to actually sign a pre-contract with them
00:55:22Yep, he's got six months left
00:55:24And I think you might see the best of Tony
00:55:26I know myself, my contract was running down
00:55:29And we ran a wee bit harder
00:55:30And tried a wee bit harder
00:55:31So I think you'll see
00:55:32What club was that?
00:55:32Oylham
00:55:33I think you'll see Tony maybe scoring 26 goals
00:55:36Between now and January
00:55:37Yeah
00:55:37Get himself another big deal
00:55:38I think the point that the manager made there
00:55:41That he's got to be part of the group
00:55:43You can't have somebody get in and unsettling everybody
00:55:46He's okay saying he's vocal
00:55:47But as long as he's vocal and a positive mind
00:55:50You know, you don't want somebody walking into the dressing room in the morning
00:55:53And the rest of the players resent him being there
00:55:54So if he scores goals and he's part of the group
00:55:57And he has got good banter
00:55:58I'm sure he'll do well
00:55:59Yeah, absolutely
00:56:01Aberdeen against Queen's Park is another fixture
00:56:04Where I think the Dons fans are just on cloud nine
00:56:07Disappointed undoubtedly
00:56:09A number of them will be
00:56:11That finally the move for Mioski has gone through
00:56:14But they've got a lot of money
00:56:15And they will go into that transfer market
00:56:17But there was nobody in the fans last week booing him
00:56:21They were clapping him and thanking him for the 44 goals that he scored
00:56:25And even the manager Jimmy Tolin paid tribute to him today
00:56:29I think it was a good ending
00:56:31He was professional all the way he was here
00:56:34Always full on the training sessions
00:56:37Also, we had some discussion before
00:56:40I think that was the first Cup
00:56:41Can I remember now
00:56:42Then he didn't play
00:56:42But it was fair
00:56:44And then he played some games
00:56:46But also full concentration in the locker room
00:56:48In the dressing room
00:56:49And with all the players
00:56:50So he's a really professional player
00:56:52And we wish him all luck
00:56:54For the future
00:56:55He deserves it
00:56:56Yeah, absolutely
00:56:57And thanks for the seven million
00:56:59Which I think they will bank nicely
00:57:01And hopefully get one or two players in as well
00:57:04But that's certainly a good start for him
00:57:05And I don't see any problems with Queen's Park
00:57:08No, I think if it had been Queen's Park at home
00:57:11There might have been a wee bit tighter
00:57:12But I think everything's going in the right direction
00:57:15For Aberdeen just now
00:57:16The supporters are buying into everything that they're giving them
00:57:20And obviously that's wins
00:57:21I think it'll be a great atmosphere
00:57:23I think it'll be
00:57:23The Aberdeen supporters will turn out in numbers
00:57:26And I think they will win it quite comfortably
00:57:294-0
00:57:30No, I'd go for 3
00:57:31Yeah
00:57:32If I say a number
00:57:33Are you just going one below it?
00:57:35Never does a big score down here, Ruffey
00:57:36He's too scared to upset people
00:57:37He doesn't go 4-0 or 5-0
00:57:39It's always 2-0
00:57:40I'd like to try and get it right
00:57:41Why upset people?
00:57:41Yeah
00:57:42Try and get it right
00:57:42There's no point in being sensational
00:57:45Why?
00:57:45You've gone soft as well, by the way
00:57:47You've gone soft
00:57:48When he first started at Real Radio
00:57:50He would have went 5-0, wouldn't he?
00:57:51When he was trying to make his way in the media game
00:57:53Now he's rich and just doesn't know how to do it
00:57:55That's because he was surrounded by lunatics
00:57:59That was the norm
00:58:02When he joined me for the first time
00:58:04I only interviewed him as a Ruffey the legend
00:58:06But when he joined me he said
00:58:09Have you ever worried about Real Radio
00:58:10When you were working at Radio Clyde?
00:58:13And I just said
00:58:14We never gave you a second thought
00:58:17It's bad, isn't it?
00:58:19But what about if it happened to Real Radio
00:58:22And Clyde's still going
00:58:24Anyway, Dundee against Airdrie
00:58:26Your old club, give us a prediction
00:58:294-2 Dundee
00:58:30Yeah, 2-0 Dundee
00:58:325-0 Dundee
00:58:37Well done, Ruffey
00:58:39Well done, absolutely
00:58:40I'll tell you what
00:58:41I think there could be a wee shock here
00:58:42And I know you're going to look at me and think
00:58:44Really?
00:58:45Spartans
00:58:471-0 against Ross County
00:58:50Spartans to win?
00:58:50Yeah
00:58:51What do you think?
00:58:523-0 Ross County
00:58:53Yeah
00:58:54Ruffey?
00:58:55Yeah, Ross County
00:58:56Yeah, okay
00:58:57Dundee United against St Mirren
00:58:59That could be a cracker as well
00:59:00If we're looking at games that have got
00:59:02Heavy legs for St Mirren
00:59:03Yeah, absolutely
00:59:04That's what I was thinking
00:59:04Dundee United might just fancy that
00:59:06I fancy Dundee United in that
00:59:07I think St Mirren
00:59:082-1?
00:59:09Yeah, I think I'd go for 2-1 as well
00:59:11I think it'll narrowly nick that
00:59:122-1
00:59:13Yeah, did we get a prediction from you
00:59:15From Motherwell to Kilmarnock, Ruffey?
00:59:16No, we didn't
00:59:19Not too sure about Motherwell yet
00:59:21Yeah
00:59:21Kilmarnock on a high
00:59:23And Kilmarnock will just edge that
00:59:24Yeah, 1-0 Killie
00:59:25Yeah
00:59:26Yep
00:59:261-0 to Killie
00:59:27Okay
00:59:30Yeah, I think they'll be heavy legged on that one
00:59:33I'm going to go Motherwell to win it
00:59:352-1
00:59:36Yeah
00:59:37And of course we're giving the score on Celtic
00:59:40And also, George Robertson
00:59:44I'm going to finish with this one
00:59:45On the Scottish games
00:59:47George Robertson says
00:59:48Peter, ask the high B Tam what the Celtic hip score will be
00:59:51Can you ask him how long he thinks David Gray will get?
00:59:54I think it'll be 2-0 to Celtic
00:59:56I think David Gray will get at least a season
00:59:58A season?
00:59:58Oh, he'll get a season
01:00:00I think they've just signed another nine players
01:00:02I think that once he gets these two games out the way
01:00:05You know, Celtic back to back
01:00:06I think if you look at the running fixtures after that
01:00:08There's games that he should be winning
01:00:10So, I think maybe judge him after Saturday
01:00:12Okay, don't forget
01:00:14We've got lots of features on the programme
01:00:16We try and bring you as much news as possible
01:00:19Kerry is out there with Alisson and Patrick
01:00:22And of course, Patrick and Blair are out
01:00:24Covering the Man United film game for us
01:00:26I was seeing that today
01:00:27Another jolly for they two
01:00:28They're just strolling about
01:00:30Picking the best games available
01:00:31It's not a jolly, I have to tell you
01:00:33They're working, are they?
01:00:34The last person that said it
01:00:34There are no jollies in Bapeer
01:00:36The last person
01:00:37The last person that said it was a jolly
01:00:39Was banished to England, I think
01:00:41So, let's not be saying it's a jolly
01:00:43Wasn't it a jolly in Germany?
01:00:44Yeah, or Dubai
01:00:47Anyway, the return of the English Premier League
01:00:50Really looking forward to it
01:00:51I think United, I don't think they'll be anywhere
01:00:53I don't think they'll get in the top four
01:00:55I don't think they'll win the league
01:00:56But I think they'll beat Fulham
01:00:57Oh, I think they'll beat Fulham
01:00:59They've got to beat Fulham
01:01:00I think the supporters are getting into another season
01:01:04With high hopes
01:01:04But you're right
01:01:05We're saying they've bought four or five players
01:01:07Not of the quality they used to get
01:01:09But I think they'll be
01:01:12I may agree with you, top six
01:01:14Yeah, okay
01:01:15I don't think Arsenal will win the league
01:01:18Unless they go and sign a top-drawer striker
01:01:20Yep, I think that's the only thing they lack in Arsenal
01:01:22I think everything else about their team is top-drawer
01:01:24But they need a striker
01:01:26I don't think Jesus is the man
01:01:28Yeah, absolutely
01:01:29And the only thing I would say
01:01:30And I'm absolutely gutted to say it
01:01:32I do not think that Liverpool will win the league
01:01:36I just can't believe they haven't signed anybody
01:01:38I'm a little bit worried about my English team, Liverpool
01:01:41I don't think they'll win the league
01:01:42I can't see anybody stopping Man City, Robby
01:01:45Is that fair?
01:01:46Yep, I think they're a perfect city for me
01:01:48100%
01:01:48Yeah, and of course we'll find out in the next three to four weeks
01:01:52Because as ever, in England
01:01:55The let's sack the manager
01:01:58Tends to happen quicker than anywhere else in the world
01:02:00So if the Ange-Poste-Claughlu-loving continues
01:02:05He's got to start well, Ruffey
01:02:07Who have they got in the first game?
01:02:08They've got Leicester away
01:02:10Yeah?
01:02:11Yeah, I think the style of football is enjoyable
01:02:14But it does need to win games, that's the bottom line
01:02:16Sign this big striker, Salahnkey
01:02:18A lot of money, £50 million or something
01:02:19Yeah, and he's not worth it
01:02:21The Ange-Bolt
01:02:21Okay, we'll find out
