00:00:30of you for your support at the start of the season. We're breaking records with the
00:00:34views that we've got right across our network on Facebook, on Twitter or X as you call it
00:00:40and of course our YouTube channel. We're delighted that the support you're giving
00:00:44us and hopefully you're enjoying the content as well. So, lots to talk about. Late, late
00:00:49show really damages Carmannock and Hart's hopes in European football. We'll get the
00:00:53thoughts of our panel. Should we consider giving clubs a break to help them qualify
00:00:59for European competition? It's the last week of the transfer window. Have you seen enough
00:01:03activity at your club? Is Conor Barron ready for a call up to the international squad?
00:01:09Is he good enough? Give us your thoughts. We could get t-shirts printed. Where's Duke?
00:01:15Everybody's dying to know. We'll hear from Jimmy Tallien on that. Gundogan, he has re-signed
00:01:20for Manchester City. You should never go back. That's what the saying goes. But, with
00:01:26that in mind, I've come up with a top ten of players who should have never gone back
00:01:34to their clubs. So, as you can see, Ali's absolutely delighted at that. She just hasn't
00:01:39told her face yet. So, there we have it. That's what we're going to talk about. Let's start
00:01:44First of all, Copenhagen 2, Kilmarnock 0. Derek McInnes, this is what he had to say
00:01:51on the overall result. He wasn't happy with it. A horrendous refereeing decision. Really
00:01:58nice of the league, he says, to maybe even think about us being still in Europe and giving
00:02:02us Aberdeen away. It's quicker to get to Denmark than it is to Aberdeen. A four-hour journey
00:02:07but such is life. I think while the game is still in the balance for next Thursday, we
00:02:11want to try and make it a special night at Rugby Park. But he did go on to say, a horrendous
00:02:16refereeing decision in that match. By and large, he says, we felt OK until the referee
00:02:23gets involved. Ruffey, what's your take on it? Obviously, we watched it a couple of times.
00:02:28I think, unfortunately, I don't think it's an intentional foul. I think the two of them
00:02:32have went for the ball. I think, unfortunately, the Kilmarnock boy has kicked the back of
00:02:38El Anousi's leg. I don't think it stopped him from scoring a goal. It was just a collision
00:02:43between the two of them. But they've had a look at it and analysed it. I think that's
00:02:47why they've given the penalty. It's because there's contact in the back of his leg. Did
00:02:50you think it was a penalty? I thought it was a soft one but yes, it was a penalty. If it
00:02:54was up the other end, I'm sure Danny McInnes would be screaming for a penalty. Ali? I thought
00:02:58it was harsh. I'm not convinced that it was a penalty and I can understand why Kilmarnock
00:03:05felt so aggrieved at it being given. I'm in your camp, Ali. It's not a bad start, Ali.
00:03:11I'm in your camp. I'm agreeing with Ali. But you are with Ruffey, aren't you? Sadly, for
00:03:15me, it's an absolute stonewall penalty. I think in that situation, the ball bounces.
00:03:19If you get a nick on it as a striker, if you get a nick on the ball and the defender kicks
00:03:23your foot, it's a foul. Sorry, Derek. It's an absolute stonewall penalty for me. Right,
00:03:27okay. What about the second one, Ruffey? The second one, I don't think the boy knew what
00:03:32he was doing either. I think he just stuck his leg out and it was a great connection
00:03:37and it fired into the back of the net but I don't think for a minute he intentionally
00:03:41meant it to go there. True nothing. Is it insurmountable in your eyes, Ali? It's not
00:03:46insurmountable, of course not, but you would have to say, if you were asking me if I think
00:03:51Kilmarnock can overturn it, I would have to say no. I think it's a huge ask now to try
00:03:57and go through to essentially score three goals and keep a clean sheet at Rugby Park.
00:04:01It's not impossible, I'm sure they'll set out to try and get an early goal but I think
00:04:05their task is significantly tougher. I think if they kept it to 1-0, you've got a fighting
00:04:10chance. At 2-0, I think it becomes very hard. I think Copenhagen will try and manage the
00:04:16game and see it out. If you were putting me on the spot, I'd say no, I can't see Kilmarnock
00:04:21now getting past Copenhagen. Ruffey? It's the old one, isn't it? Whoever scores first.
00:04:28If Kilmarnock scores first, the whole place will be jumping. They'll believe they can
00:04:32get another one. If they score first, the game's over. Gone.
00:04:37On the basis that I've been with you 12 years, I'm well aware of your probability status.
00:04:45Do you think they're through? Who are you telling me scored the first goal? It all depends
00:04:52on who scores first. I think there's always a chance at 2-0, you're still in it. You're
00:04:57not out of it, you're still in it. And if I was putting you on the spot, Kelly? I hope
00:05:01they do, I hope they get through. Will they? Yeah. Okay, there you are. We got there in
00:05:06the end. No, I don't think so. Peter, I think at 1-0, you've got a sniff. I think the late
00:05:11goal's an absolute killer for Kilmarnock. I watched the second half, I thought they
00:05:15were under real pressure. I thought the first half, Kilmarnock were quite comfortable. Once
00:05:19Copenhagen scored, they tried to get that second one, they pushed forward in droves
00:05:23and they showed their quality. I think the best Kilmarnock maybe get a draw at home,
00:05:28but I think the tie's over, sadly, for Kilmarnock. Okay, it's going to be a tall order, I think
00:05:32you might be right on that one, but I'm going to stick my neck out and say Hearts are going
00:05:36to beat Victoria Pills in the return. I was well impressed with them, I thought they played
00:05:41some lovely possession football. The keeper, Craig Gordon, I mean, he's bloody hell rough,
00:05:47he's 41. He produced two brilliant saves in the game, he was brilliant. Yeah, very instinctive
00:05:52saves. You could show the experience he had to get his body in the line, particularly
00:05:57the one with his foot. He narrowed the angle and got it right. He's good at making these
00:06:02saves and that's what he's done most of his career. He's made big saves that makes him
00:06:07a top keeper. Yeah, absolutely magnificent. And again, I hate to say this, but there's
00:06:13two chances for Lauren Shanklin. It's right down the barrel of the gun. If he puts it
00:06:18left or right, Hearts have got a goal. Yeah, and what could be a huge goal too, so I think
00:06:24he should be scoring them. I agree with you though, I think 1-0 is still a very favourable
00:06:30result. I think the timing of the goal would have felt, it would have scunnered Hearts
00:06:34because it looked as though they were going to take a draw back to Tynecastle, but I think
00:06:381-0, they're still very much in it. I would agree with you, I think they'll overturn that.
00:06:42Yeah, Tam? Yeah, I think Hearts have got a real opportunity. I wasn't particularly impressed
00:06:46with Pilsen, I expected they would be better. Hearts played really well. I think, again,
00:06:51the late goal shifts the momentum towards Pilsen, but I think Hearts at a packed Tynecastle,
00:06:56I think they beat Rosenberg a couple of seasons ago as well at home to get through. I think
00:06:59they can overturn that one, they'll go through. So I'll go for Hearts to go through, yeah.
00:07:02Okay, I was well impressed with Hearts' possession football at times. I thought they played some
00:07:06lovely stuff. Just didn't have that killer touch that I think you need. What do you think
00:07:10about that? Lots of people obviously joining us on the live feed. Don't worry, if you don't
00:07:16catch us on the live feed, because you can watch the programme at your leisure and more
00:07:21and more people are watching it, you'll get opinion, get a bit of banter as well. We'll
00:07:24read out as many of your messages as we possibly can. And, Ruffy, the other great thing that
00:07:30I'd like to point out to you is if they download the PLZ Soccer app, there is in the main menu
00:07:36a chance for them to go down to the contact section and record a message. So if they want
00:07:42to really put the boot in, they can record themselves. And we'll put out some of the
00:07:48people who have obviously recorded themselves. And of course you won't vet any of them, you'll
00:07:52just put them out. There'll be no good ones, bad ones. Just put them out. There'll be none
00:07:56slaughtering Peter. Let's not be silly. You'll be vetted. Well, it's funny you should say
00:08:01that because obviously there are people that slaughter me every day of the week. Ali slaughters
00:08:07me. Ali and I had a full scale argument this morning, but we're still pals. Somebody said to
00:08:14us there, hi, I just want to check, is Ruffy wearing a gold medallion round your... you've
00:08:20got a gold... Is it a gold chain? Somebody thought you were wearing a gold medallion.
00:08:26Can I just ask, why have you not got a t-shirt underneath that? I had a t-shirt. You've just
00:08:30got a jumper with your chest out, what's going on? It was very warm earlier when I came in,
00:08:34so I took it off. Do you know what, I was looking at him... Sorry, but Lancaster? No, no, I was
00:08:40looking, what exactly? Ron Burgundy, that's what it is. You should see him trying to read one of
00:08:44the promos, Ali. It's hard work. Anyway, thank you. It's there, William Smith. Is Ruffy wearing
00:08:52a golden medallion around his neck? He's just a pure 1970s man, Ruffy. What do you expect from
00:08:58him? That was in then. I'm wearing him coming in... I don't know if I should say this. I was
00:09:07going out with a girl once and she bought me a gold sovereign ring for my birthday.
00:09:16I used to have one in my middle finger, then I had to get it cut off, but I had it since I was
00:09:19about 12 or 13. A sovereign ring? Yeah, yeah, 13, 14. I mean, my mates slaughtered me, Ruffy,
00:09:24because there's something just so... That's what you got in the Spineburner,
00:09:26that was a rite of passage. You got a sovie, my man, aye?
00:09:33Ruffy, I mean, you... I have to be perfectly honest, when we won the League Cup way back in
00:09:37the year, a jeweller gave us all rings with word initials on them. Oh, and he's still got it to this
00:09:44day. That gold, Ruffy? Can I get that when you croak it? Our jeweller in Buchanan Street made
00:09:50everybody a ring with it. AR? Brilliant. Get a few quid for that melted down, Ali,
00:09:55that's what I'm thinking. That's fantastic, Ruffy. That last mine, that's... I lost mine,
00:09:58that's actually Alec Reyes. Brilliant, Ruffy. So, we reckon one in, one out, as far as Europe's
00:10:12concerned. What do you make of it all? What do you think? Give us your thoughts on that. Thank
00:10:16you to so many of you for your messages. We try and read out as many of the sensible ones as
00:10:22possible. And we are open to taking criticism as well, let me tell you that. Scottish Premiership,
00:10:28here's what we've got to look forward to this weekend. It's going to be Dundee United against
00:10:33St Johnson, Hibbs against Dundee, I'll be at Easter Road looking forward to it. Rangers against
00:10:38Ross County, St Mirren Celtic, Aberdeen against Kilmarnock, and Motherwell take on Hearts. That's
00:10:44what we're going to digest and you can give us your thoughts on that as well. Just before we
00:10:50leave the European and start to talk domestic football, should we be giving our teams a break,
00:10:56as Derek McInnes is making out there, should we be giving them a break, the qualifiers,
00:11:00just to try and get them into the group stages? I think it makes sense. I think on initial
00:11:07inspection of it, you say yes. You say you want as many teams going into European competition as
00:11:11possible. You want to have teams competing in that arena. It raises the standard of the league,
00:11:17it gives finance to clubs who are able to attract a better player. You see all the arguments for it,
00:11:22however what I would say is when you put that into practice across the course of a campaign,
00:11:28you can see that obviously it would raise headaches too. If you think if every club
00:11:33who goes into group stage competition is then asking for deferments of games, you think at
00:11:38what point can you manage to fulfil the calendar across the course of the campaign. So you can see
00:11:44the logistics of it and if you do it for one club and for example you let Kilmarnock and you let
00:11:49St Mirren and you let Hearts delay games and then for example Celtic go into the group stages of the
00:11:54Champions League and you maybe have a Rangers game coming up in the back of it and you ask
00:11:58to defer a tie and it can create a full can of worms I think. But in terms of just if you wanted
00:12:04to draw a line in the sand and say just for qualification matches when it's early in the
00:12:08season and you've got ample time then to reschedule games, I would say yes. I say yes, you? Yeah 100%
00:12:13I think he's right. I think you look at clubs all over Europe. Dutch League, I think the rest,
00:12:17I think the Pilsen didn't have a game at the weekend either so they're trying to help their
00:12:22clubs get into Europe and that always benefits everybody else with the coefficient and stuff.
00:12:26So 100% I think Derek's bang on there. Okay, Rafi what do you make of this situation we have?
00:12:33We're into the final week of the transfer window. There's going to be a hell of a lot
00:12:37of business needs to be done from some managers just to tweak their squad to get it ready. Some
00:12:42people have demands of trying to look at the domestic situation and then marry that with
00:12:49European football as well. Yeah, my managers have had long enough to assess the squad. You know,
00:12:54some of them will be happy. I wouldn't think Dundee would have any problems about rushing
00:12:58anybody through with the start they've had. I think Sint Maarten and Komarnack will be a wee
00:13:03bit more wary now when they're playing the two games that their squads aren't capable enough of
00:13:08doing that. Every club will have their own idea, every manager will have their own idea of what
00:13:14he's got but the bottom line is money. You know, I don't think a lot of our clubs have got enough
00:13:18money so any players I think will be coming into our clubs will all be on loan. All of them?
00:13:24All of them. Obviously Celtic have got money to splash. I can't see the likes of Sint Maarten,
00:13:30Komarnack, you know, these kind of teams throwing money about.
00:13:34Okay, Rangers take on Ross County. I think there's a wee bit of good news coming towards
00:13:39the Rangers fans with regards to the return to Ibrox. We'll find out now from our reporter,
00:13:44Patrick Mullen. Rangers are preparing to take on Ross County tomorrow in what could be their
00:13:48last home league game at the National Stadium. Renovations look set to be completed at Ibrox
00:13:54Stadium and while Fleet-Clement didn't give anything away he said there is a possibility
00:13:58this could be their last chance at Hampden Stadium. Nothing can be confirmed until
00:14:04until it's sure but people are working really hard to make it as fast as possible
00:14:10so there's a possibility in that way but not certainty. There's just a week to go until the
00:14:14transfer window closes and while Fleet-Clement says he is confident the club can get business
00:14:19done he insists outgoings will have to be the priority before any new incomings. Yeah,
00:14:24I'm confident because I believe in the club, I believe in the recruitment
00:14:29and I believe we can do the right things. We need to do a lot of things so I know that in one
00:14:42transfer period it will be impossible to do everything that we want to do as a club that
00:14:48we know but I think a lot of good things already are done but we need still to do several things
00:14:55this week that's clear for everybody in the building. It's Rangers versus Ross County at
00:14:59Hampden Stadium tomorrow afternoon. Kick-off is at 3pm and PRZ Soccer will be there live
00:15:04keeping you up to date. Yeah, I think you know there's some suggestion that it might be the
00:15:08last time they'll be playing at Hampden. Could be back in time for the match against Dundee but
00:15:14I don't think anybody would be shouting that from the high heavens right away because obviously
00:15:20they just want to kind of make sure everything's right, the seating is in and it's all secure and
00:15:28it's passed all its safety inspections so I don't think anybody's shouting it from the high heavens
00:15:32that suddenly after the game against Ross County they'll be back there on the 21st of September
00:15:37but it'll be pretty close. Yeah, I think the Rangers fans will be excited to get back to
00:15:41Ibrox. I think they'll realise that Hampden's not a great venue to go and watch football.
00:15:46They've struggled a little bit obviously playing at Hampden, the atmosphere's not been anywhere
00:15:50near the same as Ibrox. I think the pitches I've seen online, you can't really trust a lot of them
00:15:55but some of the ones that I've seen, the stadium looks good, the steals arrived and listen they'll
00:16:00be working around the clock to get them back into Ibrox you know so they'll be hoping that in
00:16:05September they'll be back in for that Dundee game. Yeah, activity, that's the key I think
00:16:10that a lot of Rangers fans are looking at. Can you get some of the players out that they just,
00:16:16I don't think there's any leeway whatsoever for Todd Cantwell to make a return so can they get
00:16:22him out, can they get other players that are not going to feature out and then suddenly quickly
00:16:27turn around players who are going to come in? That's been the mantra for the last few weeks
00:16:31from Philip Clement, he's been very open about the fact he can't bring anyone else in until he
00:16:36offloads players who are in the building and who are taking a fairly sizeable wage. I think
00:16:41the remit at Rangers is clear, I think there's a directive to get the wage bill down, to source
00:16:48better value in the transfer market, to identify a player trading model that so far they've been
00:16:54unable to really create successfully over a long period of time but in the short term for this
00:17:00window I think it's quite clear there's players there that need to go before any more can come in
00:17:05and Cantwell I think is a key example, I think the situation at the minute isn't to the benefit
00:17:11of anyone, not to the player and not to the club, I think it's utterly pointless for him to be
00:17:16languishing in the reserves, not part of the first team picture. I think I would have been
00:17:23tempted still to have played him and even if I thought he was going to go before the end of the
00:17:27window, play him, get something out of him, bring something else into the team because I do think,
00:17:33I know there was criticism of him last season but I think he had something to offer, I think there was
00:17:38a creativity there and I think it's almost an element of cutting off your nose to spite your
00:17:43face just now. His fall from grace has been absolutely incredible. Yeah it has, I think when
00:17:50he first came in I thought he looked a really really good player, I thought he made an impression
00:17:55with the Rangers support straight away, he looked as if he was going to be a really really good
00:17:59signing. I think that a lot of his activity off the pitch in terms of social media and all that,
00:18:03a lot of fans have turned against him. I think he's put out cryptic stuff after games and all that
00:18:07and the Rangers supporters are just like, just listen, just do your talking on the pitch and I don't think
00:18:10he's done that in the last year. So there'll be a lot of Rangers supporters thinking, bring him back
00:18:15in, give him one more chance but the Rangers supporters I know and speak to think, just cut
00:18:20your losses and get rid of him. He's causing too much havoc off the pitch when he's not been playing.
00:18:25The one thing about players, I always try and mention this to anyone who works for
00:18:31PLZ who's reporting on matches, and you're old enough in the head to know this a lot
00:18:37longer than I certainly when I'm watching games, is quite simply do not get sucked into people
00:18:45gesticulating, pointing to the name, being a fan's favourite for doing all sorts of
00:18:52gestures. Watch a player, watch a player consistently and ask yourself in each game
00:18:59that you see him, does he do something significant that merits the transfer money and his inclusion
00:19:06in the starting 11? And I said consistently last year, I didn't see it. I just didn't see what he
00:19:14brought to that Rangers team. He didn't kill teams off, he wasn't able to make an impression in my
00:19:19mind in games where Rangers fans that I speak to who are Rangers fans who go to a game and can do
00:19:26this, they look at it and say, I'm not going to be fooled, I'm going to watch you and see what you do
00:19:30and I'm sorry, he's a player for the 21st century social media. He's not a player who you want on
00:19:38the park who you think, go out and win the game. You look at that young boy Connor Barron, he's
00:19:43come in and made a huge difference. He actually realises you play the ball forward. Yeah well
00:19:47Clermont's already made up his mind and he's ticked all the boxes that you're talking about.
00:19:52He's not the kind of player he wants in his squad. I don't know, I like he's away for the game itself.
00:19:58I agree with you to a certain extent, in big games he never really done it and he probably done it
00:20:02against all the other teams in the league. He never grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck
00:20:07and was the match winner or the winner. But I think the evidence was on the line way back in
00:20:12that European game when Clermont took him off after 20 minutes, basically because he wasn't
00:20:16going by instructions. In the modern day now, if you've got a player like that mixing with the
00:20:22rest of the squad, you've got to do something about it. You've got to put your finger on it
00:20:26and say right, this is not happening. Sometimes you've got to cut your losses. It might be a
00:20:32really good player but if he's not causing any harmony in the dressing room, you're betting him
00:20:37out the door. You don't want him walking about, you don't want him mingling with the rest of the
00:20:41players and if all that social stuff's going on in the background as well, that's not happening
00:20:46either. I agree with what Ruffey said, you've got to do your talking on the pitch Peter.
00:20:51Particularly when you play with Celtic and Rangers. I think he did a wee squabble with Chris Sutton as
00:20:55well, biting at pundits and all that on social media. Just get your head down and do the business
00:21:01for your club. He'd done that initially and then I think he's been sidetracked by off the pitch stuff
00:21:07and I think the manager's patience has run out on him as well. Okay, Conor Barron, Scotland
00:21:12potentially? Yeah, I think it's incredible that as soon as he goes to Rangers he's getting linked
00:21:16to a Scotland caller. It seems to happen quite a lot when players go to the old firm, call me a
00:21:20cynic Peter, but he wasn't really linked last season even though he was very good for Aberdeen.
00:21:26I think he started the season tremendously well for Rangers, he's been probably their
00:21:29best signing. They got him for next to nothing, I don't know about Tribunal and stuff but
00:21:34he's been superb for them. He's taken games with a scruff of the neck and
00:21:38I think he would be well worth a look for Steve Clarke.
00:21:42Yeah, I think there's a few people on the fringes. I'd like to see
00:21:46the boy Gold getting a chance. We brought him into the squad for a couple of games
00:21:51and I think there are people on the fringes who deserve a shot. We're in this Nations League now,
00:21:56we're in the top league so I would give as many young players a chance to see what they can do
00:22:03for the future because there's a lot of players in there now, not particularly the midfield
00:22:07players in the Scotland team but a lot of them will be coming to the end of their careers so if
00:22:11there's anybody out there who's showing anything, give them a shout.
00:22:16Rangers vs Ross County prediction? This is a Ross County side by the way, if you look at it
00:22:21apart from the four wins in the League Cup section, two draws and a loss.
00:22:27I think it could be a heavy day for them. I think the atmosphere would be pretty poor.
00:22:31Ross County won't bring many supporters down so I think Rangers could win this 3-4-0.
00:22:373-0-0, I think it would be very comfortable for Rangers. I can't see Ross County
00:22:43posing too many problems. 2-0-0 for me Rangers.
00:22:462-0-0 Rangers, okay I'll go 2-0-0 with you as well Tam. Celtic transfer activity,
00:22:53this is an interesting one as well because everybody's looking at me. As you can tell,
00:23:02we had a film scaler this morning in the office so Ali and I totally and utterly disagree
00:23:11on Celtic's transfer policy so let's cut to the chase Ruffey. I did say to you at the start of
00:23:18the season, watch this space. Celtic will do their business dragging their heels all the way to the
00:23:26end of the transfer window once again and I have my own reasons why I know that that happens
00:23:32but I'll tell you right now, Schmeichel was a stonewall certainty because they had to get
00:23:38someone down to replace Joe Hart. The other two were there last season so they had to get deals
00:23:44over the line. Whatever's going on in the background, for me the manager is biting his tongue.
00:23:52Yeah I think he is biting his tongue now but obviously the proof in the pudding will be at the
00:23:56end of the month. If O'Reilly does go and two or three players come in, the fans will be happy to
00:24:04a certain extent but we'll have to see the quality that's coming in. I don't think for a minute if
00:24:09nothing comes in, I think all hell will break loose if O'Reilly goes and that's all that they brought
00:24:14in. So we'll just have to wait and see what's going on behind the scenes and there obviously are
00:24:20two or three players being mentioned but it's taken what, two months to get the ones that they
00:24:26had so I think the Celtic supporters will be anxious come the end of the season, the end of
00:24:33the month. Yeah okay and now for the defence of the policy and by the way I think the one thing
00:24:46that you've got to offer and this is what we try and do on this programme is you've got to offer a
00:24:52sense of balance on everything that goes on. They are as a group of accountants and bank managers
00:25:00and a board, one of the best run clubs in Great Britain. There's absolutely no doubt about that.
00:25:08It doesn't always match with fans who want, their ambitions are yes you want to win the league
00:25:15but they want to do something in Europa League. So my only argument with you constantly at the
00:25:19moment has been in my opinion I think Celtic have absolutely dominated domestic football here
00:25:27for a number of reasons which we've gone over on countless occasions but they've got no ambition
00:25:32in Europe, absolutely none. They've been able to put out a narrative to the Celtic fans
00:25:38we can't compete and this is what you get year in year out. Since 2003 apart from a short sabbatical
00:25:47with Ange Postacoglou it's lastminute.com. Now it was also lastminute.com with Ange at points
00:25:54too. People forget as I pointed out to you this morning there were players who came in in the last
00:26:0048 hours of Ange's first window. Kyogo, Josip Juranovic, Cameron and Carter Vickers, Jota,
00:26:08Jaki Makis all done in the later stages of a window. So the optics that everything was done
00:26:15early all the time is not entirely true. It doesn't quite stand up to scrutiny. It stands up to
00:26:19scrutiny but there were a number of players brought in in that window early Ali. They did a lot of
00:26:25activity towards the tail end but there was signings that people started saying oh wait a
00:26:30minute this guy's brought them in at the start of the window. Also as well Ange obviously had a clear
00:26:35view of the of the Japanese market. He was coming from the J League. There were hits and misses
00:26:40there in terms of what was recruited with Kyogo in real Hitati. The very obvious
00:26:46hits, Matt O'Reilly obviously him and Hitati coming in the January window but
00:26:51I think Celtic fans are right to be frustrated. I think you can understand the frustration. I think
00:26:57you can hear the hint of frustration and probably more than a hint from Brendan Rodgers in press
00:27:04conferences. I think last Friday he pretty much said it without quite coming out and seeing it.
00:27:10Again today you hear the same message. We want quality. We want players coming in. They've got a
00:27:15week to do it. I think there is probably a very quiet sense of apprehension within Celtic. I think
00:27:25they have resources. They have financial resources to bring players in. I think there's probably been
00:27:31a frustration at not getting what they want in. We know we've discussed this already. Three players
00:27:37that we know that have had alternative options and gone elsewhere. I think there's a much bigger
00:27:44conversation to be had at some point about the structure of the recruitment side of things at
00:27:49the club. I think you could make a compelling argument for it has to be a much more modern
00:27:55entity but I still think they will get a couple over the line. I think supporters are right
00:28:02to expect that to happen. I think the time to judge is when the window closes.
00:28:08They've got a budget that can sink the Titanic and I've yet to meet a Celtic fan who thinks,
00:28:14listen, start going out there and sending 10 million pound players. They are listening to a
00:28:19manager. They're not listening to us suddenly put down the template. They're listening to their
00:28:26managers every word. He said weeks ago he wanted three or four. He said he wanted three in the
00:28:33January transfer window. The year when he dropped in he would like to get players in. We know he
00:28:39wanted three or four then so he hasn't been able to get what he's looking for. He doesn't want 10,
00:28:46two million pound players. He said that. He wants three quality. So we're now heading to the end of
00:28:53that window and by the way when it hits the end of the window there's a Champions League draw to
00:28:59take place and then it's September and then they will be judged. I think there's still a week to go
00:29:04Peter. I think if we're having this conversation next Friday and there's still no sign of anybody
00:29:10then you're thinking Celtic fans are going to be going mental. But I think there's still a week to
00:29:16go Peter and I agree with Ali. I think Celtic will bring two or three players in of quality.
00:29:20I think it takes time to get them over the line. I think clubs are reluctant to let players go
00:29:25until they've got quality in. There's not really been a lot of signings in this window. It's been
00:29:29really quiet but I think you'll see it getting ramped up in the last week of the transfer window
00:29:33and I think O'Reilly will go to Brighton and I think Celtic will bring in two or three players.
00:29:38I think they'll bring a left back someday to replace him in the middle of the park and maybe
00:29:43a centre half. So that's three. I think they'll bring three players in. The manager said if O'Reilly
00:29:47goes he needs two in the middle. Are you listening to what the manager says? Yeah, I think they'll
00:29:52get them in Peter. I think they'll get them in. I think you've just got to be patient. You think
00:29:55O'Reilly needs three? I think he needs three or four. It all depends if O'Reilly goes. I think
00:30:00he will go. Then he'll need probably two midfield players and a left back. Okay, I disagree with you.
00:30:05The point is he's got three in in two months so you're saying he's going to get four in in a week?
00:30:12I think he'll get three in in a week, yeah. A centre back, a left back, he wants two midfielders
00:30:18and he needs a centre forward. How many is that, Roffy? He'll only take a centre forward if Keogh goes.
00:30:24When the season started they probably had a board meeting and Brendan Rodgers has been at
00:30:29that board meeting and he's put a bit of paper on the table and said they're the players I want.
00:30:34So if their players don't come in he's definitely going to have something to say about it
00:30:38because I don't think it's his fault. Yeah, how many do you think he needs? I'd say five.
00:30:43So would I. I would say five. I don't think he needs another striker if Keogh is still there.
00:30:47Keogh's shoulder goes out. Maida can play through the middle. He's been playing with that shoulder
00:30:52injury for years, he's got his character. His shoulder goes and you're saying well Maida will
00:30:59play through the centre. Just put up with it. Orida? Orida. Aye. Yeah, okay. I think it all
00:31:05depends on the Celtic supporter's expectations. Are you quite happy winning a double or a treble
00:31:11and failing in Europe or do you want to do well in Europe? Yeah, okay, that's the point,
00:31:16it's a good point, Rafi. Let's throw it out there and see what everybody thinks.
00:31:21They're playing St Mirren. Stephen Robinson hopes they sell a few players.
00:31:27Hopefully, yes, hopefully. Yes, I believe Keogh and O'Reilly, that'd be great but
00:31:33they certainly won't be replaced by bad players. They'll have top quality players come in in their
00:31:38place so no matter what side they put out it will obviously be a tough task for us no matter what
00:31:43and we have to be right at the very top of our game and right at the very top of
00:31:47mentally believing that we can get a result. This is what Brendan Rodgers had to say by the way on
00:31:54the whole window. I don't think it should be reliant on players going out. We're virtually
00:32:00running it the same as where we were last season. If our idea is to improve we'll hopefully be
00:32:05active in the market this week. So that's how it's looking as far as Celtic are concerned.
00:32:13They're playing St Mirren. St Mirren have had a tough week. Yeah, early on in the season they
00:32:20haven't hit the heights of what they hit last year. Obviously the European games are having
00:32:25an effect. I think the only way they'll get something out of this game is if they bully Celtic.
00:32:29If they really get about them. I've seen them a couple of times. They've got big players.
00:32:34They can muscle them at free kicks, corners, that kind of thing but I still think
00:32:38last year when St Mirren were doing particularly well against Celtic in certain games they were on
00:32:43a high. I don't think they're on a high in this game. I think Celtic, not on a high,
00:32:48but they're winning quite comfortably. So I think Celtic will win this in the end of the day.
00:32:53Okay, 2-0. 2-0. Yeah, I think Celtic will be too strong. 3-0. 3-1 for me, Celtic.
00:33:01Okay, I'll go 2-1 Tam. Okay, give us your thoughts on that transfer window. We're going
00:33:07to be talking Aberdeen. There's a big question up in Aberdeen. It's called,
00:33:11where is Duke? We could print t-shirts on this. It's the big mystery.
00:33:16Jimmy Tallinn's going to talk about it after the headlines.
00:33:18Hi there, I'm Kerry and here is your daily news update on Friday the 23rd of August,
00:33:22brought to you by Arnold Clarke. Stephen Robinson makes no excuses for his side not advancing in the
00:33:27Premier Sports Cup due to being involved in Europe. It's taken us to all injury ways,
00:33:31you know, that we can't deny. We've practically had a whole new field out on Sunday against
00:33:36the United. We have picked up knocks and bruises, but it's not a complaint because
00:33:40we all wanted this. We all worked so, so hard for it last year.
00:33:44And St Mirren's latest signing, Killian Phillips, looks to right some wrongs from
00:33:47last season where he spent a season on loan at Aberdeen against this weekend's opponents.
00:33:52Yeah, it was tough. It's probably the worst I've probably ever felt on a football pitch,
00:33:56but the type of person I am, it's hard in the morning, but after that you can't really
00:34:03dwell on stuff like that. I think that's the best way is just to get on with my own.
00:34:07And finally, Rangers have applied to Glasgow City Council in order for a demountable safety
00:34:11netting system for high-risk pitchers to be put in place as the club look to welcome back Celtic
00:34:16fans for derbies. For all the latest breaking headlines, we'll be keeping you up to date across
00:34:19all of our social media platforms, so please don't forget to download our app and subscribe
00:34:23to PLZ Soccer's YouTube channel. I can't wait to see that net,
00:34:28Ruffey, in the first Rangers-Celtic game at Ibrox, can you?
00:34:33Well, obviously both clubs are stipulating that's going to be the case. Obviously,
00:34:40I've never been on either side in any of the other ones, so there must be some dangerous stuff going
00:34:45on. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. The only net you've been used to, Ruffey, is just the one that you
00:34:53were picking the ball out of when Andy Ritchie was playing. Anyway, it's an interesting one,
00:34:59what are you going to say? No, Tom asked me to do something for Andy Ritchie, he's got a big
00:35:03night coming up. Yeah, we've got to, we've got to. The guy told me you have to send a wee WhatsApp
00:35:08video, 30 seconds about Andy Ritchie, I've not done it yet, have you? No, I'll do that today.
00:35:12Only asked you two weeks ago. Yeah, okay. Nothing like having a squabble on here, those two, and
00:35:18then you and I, Ali, beating each other up. What about the Dandy Dons? Let's talk about the Dons,
00:35:25Ruffey, because this is a strange situation we find ourselves in here. Aberdeen taking on Kilmarnock,
00:35:33Aberdeen have done well, six, I think, permanent signings, maybe a few more to come. This is what
00:35:39Jimmy Tolleen makes of it all. My focus is with them right now, and then we have some,
00:35:45some, we always have to respect the windows. It can be in both directions. Someone can come
00:35:49for our players, and so we always have to be prepared and think about the long term,
00:35:54but also working in the short term and prepare for the games and pushing the players here,
00:35:59see them grow, how the team spirit is when we celebrate the goals, everybody's there to
00:36:05celebrate, and so right now I think we are in a good place, but as I told you before,
00:36:11when the windows close, and then we know the answer, so I can't tell any more about that.
00:36:16No, I haven't anything new to say there, no, nothing more. Is he here?
00:36:23He's not here, yeah. Yeah, the search goes on, it's where is Duke?
00:36:33Yes, we've just come from here. Yeah, you think he's back home? I would think so,
00:36:36it's a lovely place, I'd be there as well.
00:36:38I have a choice.
00:36:42It is actually shocking, but it's really disrespectful to the manager and the club,
00:36:45isn't it? I mean, imagine just going AWOL. I can't believe it, you'll not be able to play
00:36:50football under UEFA and FIFA guidelines. You cannot have a contract at Aberdeen and then
00:36:54suddenly just down tools, unless you're playing for the local Sunday pub team.
00:36:58Yeah, well people give him advice, now agents say, oh this is the way you're going to get out
00:37:02of that contract, this is it, but you're putting yourself out of the game, you know, I mean,
00:37:06he was a good player, he was exciting to watch when he got there, but I don't know what's going
00:37:10on behind the scenes, but he definitely can't go back there, it wouldn't be accepted.
00:37:14Do you know what, some professionals, well, it only has to look at the way Bojan Mijovski
00:37:18handled it, you know, he was getting linked to whole, you know, the whole summer he was
00:37:21getting linked to clubs, he went and trained hard, pre-season as well, played in the League
00:37:25Cup games and got his move. Duke's now half the player he is and he's just disappeared,
00:37:29so I think if you're a club manager, you're thinking, his attitude already, just disappearing,
00:37:33I wouldn't fancy saying it on my own.
00:37:35There's lots of players, Tam, who, we knew right away he wanted to leave, there's obviously
00:37:41a bid coming for him, and Aberdeen have said, no, you're not getting it, so he's through
00:37:45the dummy at the prom and he's just off-skiing, there's players like that, you know, who say,
00:37:49well, I'm not getting my way, so I'm just leaving.
00:37:52I'll try to think.
00:37:52It's the wrong way, it's the wrong way to think.
00:37:54There is a player in the past, I think, who downed tools and just disappeared,
00:37:58I can't remember who it was.
00:37:59Marta Viduca?
00:38:00Marta Viduca was a good one, Marta Viduca.
00:38:04Marta Viduca was a good one, you know, because you just kind of, you just wonder, it's disrespectful,
00:38:10I agree with you Tam, it's disrespectful to the club, but it's going to get resolved
00:38:14sooner or later.
00:38:15The one thing that's not bothering anybody up in Aberdeen is, well, Duke's not there,
00:38:21let's crack on, seven wins out of seven, the boy that he brought in, Sievert Nielsen,
00:38:26he's been a sensation in the middle with Shinnie, what do you call, yeah, Shinnie, Graham Shinnie.
00:38:33Yeah, I mean, I don't want to knock anything they've done, you go out and win games, you win
00:38:37them, you go on a run, fantastic, I don't think at this moment in time they've been tested at all,
00:38:42they haven't played Rangers, they haven't played Celtic, correct me if I'm wrong,
00:38:45they've not played Hibs or Hearts either, have they?
00:38:47They've been fortunate in two games as well, they've played two teams right after Europe.
00:38:52I'm fire, they've won seven out of seven here, by the way.
00:38:56You want to read out who they beat?
00:38:58No, no, I will put it into perspective, but can I just say this to you,
00:39:03this is a team famous for sacking managers over the last two or three years, you know,
00:39:09they've gone nowhere, they were bottom end of the table, Aberdeen shouldn't be in the bottom six.
00:39:14No, no, I know it's an improvement this year, but I don't think we can judge how
00:39:18well they've improved until they play the teams that I've just mentioned there just now.
00:39:22Yeah, Queen of South, Frisco Bride, Airdrie, Dumbarton, St Johnston, St Mirren, Queen's Park.
00:39:30I think Camarnock, Ross County, Motherwell, Spartans and Dundee before they play Hearts.
00:39:37Yeah.
00:39:37I mean, I don't know who's arranged their fixtures, Dave Cormack?
00:39:45Plus they've played St Mirren after Europe and they've got to play Camarnock after Europe,
00:39:48so everything's just fell into place for the Dundee Dons, sorry.
00:39:50It's not about winning your games, it's not about winning your games.
00:39:53I think it's something that can set a tone, just early off.
00:39:55It is, confidence.
00:39:58This is a team who've been losing games at the start of last season.
00:40:03Once Tam's mates have gone in, they've just absolutely killed them.
00:40:06But you're now in a situation where he just wanted to get in and hit the ground running.
00:40:11I agree with you.
00:40:12By the way, if you look at it, you're right Tam, they're playing Camarnock after Europe.
00:40:17Ross County, Motherwell and Spartans, they actually could have,
00:40:21and Dundee, they could have 11 or 12 wins back to back.
00:40:26The whole town going mental.
00:40:28An open top bus.
00:40:30A big thing at the P&J, they welcomed the team in, 12 wins on the trot.
00:40:35But nevertheless, Shafiq, it gathers momentum.
00:40:38They'll be happy, the flags will be out.
00:40:41I've never seen so many flags in my life.
00:40:42Aberdeen bringing the goal, these big enormous things.
00:40:45See if I had a season ticket there, I'd seriously think about moving, would you?
00:40:48I think it's bang out of order, Dave Cormack looking for nine o'clock kick-offs
00:40:52with a St Mirren and a Camarnock game in the morning.
00:40:57Well, listen, you're right, momentum goes a long way.
00:41:02But I'll tell you one thing he's generated quickly, Ali, is a feel-good factor about it all.
00:41:07Yeah, that's what I mean.
00:41:08I think it just sets a very early tone.
00:41:10I think it just puts a bit of confidence, a bit of belief straight into the squad.
00:41:14I think you can see Aberdeen fans are delighted.
00:41:17You can sense the optimism around the club and the expectation
00:41:21of them going and challenging for third place.
00:41:24I still think it's fairly early days.
00:41:26When you have a look at who they've played and what's still to come,
00:41:29I still think it's very early to make a judgment.
00:41:31However, what you would see is it's exactly what you would have wanted,
00:41:35to put in place a manager, win games, bank points
00:41:39and just find a confidence and a stability within a club that's lacked that.
00:41:43Good point.
00:41:44And by the way, can I just say to you, when we talk about you always mention this,
00:41:48about, oh, you don't, I mean, I do read out people who absolutely give it to me
00:41:53in the neck, but we get belted on Twitter this week.
00:41:56Did you see it?
00:41:57No.
00:41:57Those Aberdeen fans have reposted when we said,
00:42:01we can't believe they never gave Neil Lennon or Malcolm Mackay
00:42:04or somebody else the job and they are absolutely...
00:42:06Certainly those.
00:42:07Well, this is my point.
00:42:08I mean, they haven't played anybody yet.
00:42:11Well, this is their battering us,
00:42:12but I'm going to read out something from people who are Aberdeen fans.
00:42:17Some who may not be, but they're very positive.
00:42:20Studs says, the Northern Lights are shining Aberdeen for second place.
00:42:26There's a shout.
00:42:27Kenny Merchant, who's in LA, a little bit of a sensible approach here.
00:42:32He says, we are still a work in progress,
00:42:35which I think is a sensible way to look at it.
00:42:37The Flying Haggis says, the football team is the business.
00:42:42He's talking about Celtic.
00:42:43Sorry, I just read one out, I shouldn't have.
00:42:46And obviously, quite a lot of people have said on our feed,
00:42:50Aberdeen will finish second.
00:42:52I'm not so sure about that.
00:42:53Thomas Lyons says, Aberdeen will finish second this year behind Celtic.
00:42:58I think it's too early, Peter.
00:42:59I think it's far too early.
00:43:01Not too early, but we've got broadcasters saying,
00:43:05sack them, back them, sack them, back them,
00:43:07with the managers and players in the last couple of seasons.
00:43:10They've got a real chance to build a lot of momentum before they come into...
00:43:13I think there's a three or four game spell
00:43:15where they've got Celtic Rangers and, I think, Hearts.
00:43:18So they're going to come into tougher fixtures,
00:43:20but they've got a great opportunity, as you said,
00:43:22to read the fixtures out,
00:43:24to be up near the top of the league before they play those games.
00:43:27Aberdeen come on it?
00:43:312-0 to Aberdeen.
00:43:32I think, again, they're getting Kamarnik at a perfect time,
00:43:34in between two tough games with Copenhagen.
00:43:372-0 to Aberdeen.
00:43:38Raffy?
00:43:39Aberdeen just 2-1.
00:43:412-1.
00:43:41Yeah, I'm going to go with that, Raffy.
00:43:432-0 to Aberdeen.
00:43:442-0 to Aberdeen.
00:43:45I think it's a lot to ask of Kamarnik,
00:43:47coming on the back of Copenhagen,
00:43:50a pretty tough night for them,
00:43:51then all the travelling, coming back and then heading up north.
00:43:54Yeah, just so you can take the heat off Tam and myself,
00:43:57when do you think that Aberdeen bubble will burst?
00:44:04I think the proof will be in the pudding
00:44:06when they start to come up against top six opposition.
00:44:10When they're playing teams that are going to be there and thereabouts.
00:44:13I think realistically, they should be looking to push for third place.
00:44:16So when they come up against hearts,
00:44:19you'll get an indication of where they are.
00:44:21Celtic Rangers, Hubs, obviously.
00:44:23Here's a point I'm going to make to you, Ali,
00:44:24which is the key part for us on this programme.
00:44:28Do you remember the Ronnie Daly years, Raffy?
00:44:31And at that point, Aberdeen were top of the league.
00:44:35Top of the league, right?
00:44:36And then they hit October.
00:44:39And they hit October in one of the Ronnie Daly years.
00:44:41And Ronnie Daly, for me, was a hopeless Celtic manager.
00:44:45And many of the team who played for him thought he was hopeless.
00:44:50But still, Derek MacInnes hit the top.
00:44:52Look at Ali's face, waiting to see what I'm going to say.
00:44:55But Derek MacInnes' team hit the top of the table in October.
00:44:59They never won a game and they were gone.
00:45:01Here's Aberdeen in October, Raffy.
00:45:03And this is going to be the making or breaking of them.
00:45:06On the 5th of October, it's Aberdeen versus Harts.
00:45:10Then they go to Celtic Park on the 19th.
00:45:12Then they've got Dundee United.
00:45:14Then they've got Rangers.
00:45:15And then they've got Hibs on the 2nd of November.
00:45:19October.
00:45:20We'll judge Jimmy Tilleen's team.
00:45:22Is that fair?
00:45:22Yes.
00:45:23Yep, absolutely.
00:45:24Happy with that?
00:45:25Okay, we'll look at it then.
00:45:27So we think the Dandy Dons are going to win that one.
00:45:29So how are Motherwell going to work out against Harts?
00:45:32Is there an advantage there for them at home?
00:45:35I think there is.
00:45:36I think, again, Harts coming off a pretty tough night.
00:45:40Also with one eye on the return leg on Thursday night.
00:45:43I think it might be a draw.
00:45:46I'm going to go for one each.
00:45:49I think it depends what team he puts out, obviously.
00:45:51God's sake.
00:45:53He tampered with the team against Falkirk last week.
00:45:55He left 5 or 6, his first team, out and you saw what happened.
00:45:59He put the 5 or 6 back in the other night and they played well.
00:46:02So if he goes out and drops that 5 or 6 again, I think Motherwell will be good enough to get a draw.
00:46:07There's not a catch chance in hell, I think, of him dropping anybody.
00:46:10I think he needs to play his strongest team.
00:46:13They've not won a game yet, Harts.
00:46:14Yeah, but they've got that game coming up.
00:46:15You know, what are you talking about?
00:46:17Your one game or what?
00:46:19Three million in the next round?
00:46:20You've got to play your strongest team, Ruffey.
00:46:23That's what I'm saying.
00:46:23It needs to be seen.
00:46:24No, I think he actually got his fingers burnt against Falkirk.
00:46:29And the reaction from the fans when he took off Yandanda.
00:46:32And again, I am a Stevie Naismith fan.
00:46:35I think some Harts fans, just the same as Hibbs, and obviously the Dons fans have been there as well,
00:46:43I think some Harts fans need to take their foot off and just say,
00:46:47listen, calm down here.
00:46:50This is a manager who got you third.
00:46:52He's young.
00:46:53He's learning in the game.
00:46:54He's got some good experienced people behind him.
00:46:56He's got a really good board.
00:46:58Belt up and let him get the games under his belt.
00:47:02If he secures European football for Harts.
00:47:05Yeah, I mean, what a kitty they're going to take in.
00:47:07Yeah, but for these people who haven't managed to buy him over,
00:47:12you know, finishing third last year hasn't helped him.
00:47:15Because if he doesn't finish third this year, that mob are still going to be on his back.
00:47:18So he's probably got pressure on himself.
00:47:21I think they will be the third team.
00:47:24I think, I hope they get into Europe.
00:47:26I really hope that they get through.
00:47:28So it'll be great.
00:47:29Hello, Harts.
00:47:31Again, I said team lines.
00:47:33If he plays his first team, if he plays his best team, he'll win 2-1.
00:47:36He'll win 2-1.
00:47:37Let me take you back.
00:47:38If he doesn't play his full team, he'll draw one each.
00:47:40Let me take you back, Ruffey.
00:47:41This is the difference between you and I from 12 years ago.
00:47:4412 years ago, I used to work in a programme where if somebody said F butts and maybes,
00:47:50they got a baseball bat over the head.
00:47:53On Super Scoreboard, we just did not tolerate maybes, couldbes, shouldas, wouldas, couldas.
00:47:58Just give us the bloody prediction, will you?
00:48:00I've given you my prediction.
00:48:02I've told you my two predictions.
00:48:03That's my opinion.
00:48:08If he plays his best team, he wins.
00:48:09If he doesn't, he doesn't win.
00:48:11Right, okay.
00:48:12Oh my God.
00:48:13Are we giving two predictions to everybody?
00:48:14No, I'll give him two.
00:48:15We'll just give you two every week.
00:48:16Just give us, listen.
00:48:18Oh my God.
00:48:20I just want to tell you something.
00:48:21That's a bit, you get what I'm coming for.
00:48:24If you, do you know what?
00:48:25Just pick a prediction.
00:48:26Exactly.
00:48:27He says to me.
00:48:28Okay, hearts 2-1.
00:48:30There you go.
00:48:30We got there in the end.
00:48:31Hearts 2-1 for me and I think they'll play their strongest team.
00:48:33Yeah.
00:48:34They need to win a game.
00:48:35You know, sometimes in midweek, Tam, he'll say to me,
00:48:37see if you play the ball over the net, we've got a chance of getting a point here.
00:48:40But if you don't, we've lost the point.
00:48:42You can't think of that, Ruffey.
00:48:43It's unbelievable.
00:48:44You won't hear him many times I say that.
00:48:46So, Ali, rather than, and I've never known you to shirk your responsibility on an opinion.
00:48:55You've been absolutely magnificent.
00:48:57I think I've really, since you joined us full time, it's been great.
00:49:00You know, you become used to up for a fight.
00:49:04I don't think you always welcome my opinion, Peter.
00:49:06My opinion sometimes isn't shared with you.
00:49:11No, I'll be honest with you.
00:49:12Since Emily Pankhurst threw herself out in front of a horse,
00:49:16and I have seven sisters, I am all for equality.
00:49:20But just not all for agreeing with it.
00:49:22Indeed.
00:49:23What do you think?
00:49:24Four Motherwell hearts.
00:49:25I said one, one.
00:49:26I said a draw.
00:49:27Two one hearts.
00:49:28Two one hearts.
00:49:28I'll go.
00:49:29He's best team.
00:49:31I'll go two.
00:49:33I'll go two one hearts as well.
00:49:35I think the Jambos are just about to turn a few things around and get into it.
00:49:40Okay.
00:49:41What about your team?
00:49:43The Hibbys.
00:49:44Now, I'm going to go through there to Easter Road.
00:49:46Have a wee look at them.
00:49:46If you're a Jonah.
00:49:48Would you think so?
00:49:48Yep.
00:49:49Well, they're playing against one of the best teams in the league.
00:49:51Yeah, they are.
00:49:52And this is a big, big game for Hibbs.
00:49:53I think they've obviously had a poor start to the season.
00:49:57Back-to-back games against Celtic is always tough.
00:49:59But now they're on a fixture where they're playing Dundee at home.
00:50:02They're playing Kilmarnock away in the middle, just after Copenhagen at home.
00:50:07Again, they're getting Kilmarnock.
00:50:08And then just after the break, I think they've got St Johnstone at home.
00:50:10So they've got three games coming up.
00:50:12They should be looking to take seven to nine points.
00:50:15If they do that, then they're off David Gray's back.
00:50:19They'll start believing in him and believing in the squad and the team.
00:50:22If they don't, then the questions will keep getting asked.
00:50:24So, huge game.
00:50:26I think Dundee will be round about the top six again this season.
00:50:28They've been really impressed.
00:50:29They've scored a lot of goals.
00:50:31They've got a lot of younger players on their team.
00:50:34They've got legs.
00:50:35They've got Simon Murray up front, puts you under pressure.
00:50:37Really tough game for Hibbs.
00:50:40And I'm going to sit on the fence with this one.
00:50:41I think there'll be goals in it, Peter.
00:50:42But I just don't think Hibbs are ready yet to go and beat Dundee.
00:50:46I'll go for two each.
00:50:46What do you make of the manager's comments?
00:50:49That he is looking at individual mistakes and he's going to have to,
00:50:54you know, basically, they want to cut them out,
00:50:57but they obviously want to look at teams,
00:50:59some of the players and say, listen,
00:51:00if you keep making them, you're not going to be in the team.
00:51:02Well, unfortunately, it's the two signings that he's made up,
00:51:04making these mistakes.
00:51:05And the goalkeeper, Bursic and Ikepeti, I think his name is,
00:51:08and the centre-half, they've made mistakes this season,
00:51:11particularly in the game against Celtic at the weekend.
00:51:13So he's got to stick with them.
00:51:15He's signed them, you know, and he's got to stick with these players.
00:51:17He's got to hope that they take on board his comments
00:51:19and they focus and don't make any other mistakes.
00:51:23But I think it's a really difficult game for them.
00:51:25They had a good record last season against Dundee.
00:51:27Hibbs took, I think, seven points, 79 against them.
00:51:30But I'm just not convinced about Hibbs defensively as of yet.
00:51:33They might need to score three to win the game.
00:51:35I don't think they will.
00:51:36I'll go for two each.
00:51:36OK, I'm going to go for 1-1, Roffy.
00:51:38I'm going to go for Dundee.
00:51:40And the reason I'm going for Dundee
00:51:41is I want to see the Tom McManus column next week
00:51:43because it's sort of a wee...
00:51:45We might wee clip-on.
00:51:46Clip-on, what they used to have,
00:51:48the audience would go for it and not go for it.
00:51:50His wee clip-on just doesn't know which way to go.
00:51:54So I'm waiting to see...
00:51:55Is that a gauge?
00:51:55I'm waiting to see...
00:51:56Is that a gauge?
00:51:57I'm waiting to see if Dundee win which way this...
00:52:00Yeah.
00:52:01Clip-o-meter, it's called.
00:52:02I think...
00:52:03I have no idea.
00:52:04Is that a thing?
00:52:05Clip-o-meter?
00:52:05I have no clue what you're talking about, Roffy.
00:52:08Other than there used to be, in a 1970s programme,
00:52:12a clap-o-meter, which is basically the applause
00:52:15when you stayed on the show.
00:52:18I think Bob Monkhouse was involved in it at one point.
00:52:20But with that in mind,
00:52:22I think what you're trying to say, Roffy,
00:52:23is he's sitting on the fence at the moment.
00:52:25We haven't really got one way or the other
00:52:27from him in your column.
00:52:29Every now and then, it's well worth a read
00:52:32because apparently now what's happening is,
00:52:35you know, eventually what will happen is
00:52:36they just get a big, giant bunch of cakes
00:52:38and they all sit there with their...
00:52:40They all sit there and they do their coffee clubs
00:52:42and everything, you know.
00:52:44They've got a copy in some way, Ali,
00:52:45but they're now putting cakes in there and everything,
00:52:47you know.
00:52:49It's only a matter of time until...
00:52:50He has a record of obviously playing with that many clubs.
00:52:54He's now getting a record of how many pals
00:52:56and manager's jeebs are getting sacked.
00:52:59So he's now going for that record as well.
00:53:02So there's another one.
00:53:03Ali, Dundee, Hibbs.
00:53:06I'm going to go for a draw.
00:53:08Yeah.
00:53:11I think you've seen tentative signs within games.
00:53:15I think they could have folded against Celtic
00:53:17that first game at Eastside Road when it went to 2-0.
00:53:20I thought they rallied a wee bit.
00:53:21I thought you saw glimpses in the second period.
00:53:25I thought they shot themselves in the foot at Celtic Park.
00:53:27That third goal was just a car crash.
00:53:30But obviously they'll be judged on games like this.
00:53:33I don't think they've got quite enough to go and beat
00:53:35a Dundee team that have been very impressive.
00:53:37Picked up from where they left off last season.
00:53:39I'm going to go for a draw.
00:53:40Dundee United have only lost 1-7, Ruffey.
00:53:44They're against St Johnstone.
00:53:46I think St Johnstone are putting up a wee bit of a fight this year.
00:53:50They just don't seem to have the players to win games.
00:53:54Obviously they've let the boy May go.
00:53:57I think they'll be stubborn at Dundee United.
00:53:59But I think Dundee United are on a wee bit of a high now.
00:54:02And I think they'll just narrowly win this 1-2-1.
00:54:05Yeah, I think Dundee United have got enough to win that game at home.
00:54:09I think the players that they've brought in the forward areas have been impressive so far.
00:54:13Good result last week in the Cup.
00:54:15Decent start to the season, Dundee United with two draws.
00:54:18I think they'll win this game 2-1 as well.
00:54:20OK, Dundee United 2-0.
00:54:222-1
00:54:22OK, English Premier League fixtures.
00:54:25Here's how it looks down south at this moment.
00:54:28Brighton, Manchester United, Crystal Palace, West Ham, Fulham against Leicester,
00:54:33City against Ipswich, Southampton, Nottingham Forest,
00:54:36Tottenham against Everton, Aston Villa, Arsenal,
00:54:39Bournemouth, Newcastle, Wolves against Chelsea,
00:54:42and Liverpool against Brentford.
00:54:44We hang on the every word of some managers,
00:54:47especially round about the transfer window.
00:54:51And as Brendan Rodgers mentioned, everybody expects a full bus of players
00:54:56to be heading out of Celtic Park.
00:54:58They're getting a few out.
00:54:59The big fear is when Kiyoko is linked with Manchester City,
00:55:03but this is what Pep Guardiola had to say on transfers.
00:55:06I don't know.
00:55:06I don't think so.
00:55:07By the way, I said before,
00:55:08so I don't know what's going to happen at the end of the market.
00:55:11Maybe happen something in terms of injuries.
00:55:14Hopefully not in terms of, I don't know,
00:55:16the market provided something unexpected that financially
00:55:19is good for us or for the tactical wise as well.
00:55:22So right now, I don't think so.
00:55:26Well, what he's saying, Ravi,
00:55:27as you were pulling your microphone down,
00:55:31he's basically saying he doesn't expect too much transfer activity,
00:55:34if at all, for Man City now.
00:55:36You're saying this Kiyoko thing is just speculation?
00:55:39Well, listen, if it isn't,
00:55:41it's going to be a big week for Celtic in the transfer window.
00:55:45I don't expect them to go out,
00:55:46if I'm being perfectly honest with you.
00:55:48The other thing I would say to you is,
00:55:49he's brought back Gundawan.
00:55:51It's the deal of the century for me,
00:55:53Gundawan coming back on a free from Barcelona.
00:55:56How good is that, Ali?
00:55:58It's going to bring forth another top 10 though, isn't it?
00:56:01It is indeed, Ali, because,
00:56:05and again, Ali hates top 10s,
00:56:08but I'll tell you,
00:56:09players that should never go back, Rafi,
00:56:11I've got 10 here,
00:56:13do you want to take a wee stab at some of the names I've got?
00:56:15No.
00:56:16Players that have played for a club and have gone back,
00:56:19so Ronaldo went back to Manchester United,
00:56:23didn't quite work out,
00:56:24although from my point of view,
00:56:25in the first season,
00:56:26he scored 28 goals for Man United.
00:56:29I don't know what more he had to do in a duff team,
00:56:32but he went back.
00:56:33I'll tell you another person who went back,
00:56:35he's an old friend of ours,
00:56:37an old pal of yours and an old pal of mine.
00:56:39He's an old teammate of yours
00:56:40and I worked with him for eight years.
00:56:42It was Charlotte and Derek.
00:56:44Derek?
00:56:44Derek.
00:56:45Did you?
00:56:45Did you? He went back to Rangers.
00:56:46Yeah, you went back as a centre-half,
00:56:48but did he not?
00:56:49Still, still went back.
00:56:51I'm not saying he was,
00:56:52I'm not saying,
00:56:52he wasn't as good as he was first time around,
00:56:54but Derek, for me,
00:56:55was just a top-drawer player.
00:56:57Yeah, I liked him as a striker.
00:56:59By the way,
00:56:59DJ could play midfield and centre-half,
00:57:01he was that good.
00:57:03So, Charlie Nicholas?
00:57:06Yep.
00:57:07Second time around,
00:57:08Charlie actually scored goals,
00:57:09but again,
00:57:11you know,
00:57:12the narrative that you talk about
00:57:13in a fairly duff team.
00:57:14We're talking about Celtic in 1990, 1991?
00:57:1794, yeah.
00:57:19Mark Haley went back.
00:57:20Remember, Rangers brought Mark Haley back in?
00:57:22No, I didn't, no, no.
00:57:24Yeah, Mark Haley was brought back in
00:57:25for an Old Firm game,
00:57:26the one that Jackie McNamara
00:57:27landed a punch on his jaw
00:57:29and then ran away.
00:57:32Because I would run away.
00:57:34I was going to punch Mark Haley
00:57:36and make sure I had trainers on.
00:57:38But, Sean Maloney went back.
00:57:41I'll tell you another one,
00:57:42Kevin McAllister, Falkirk.
00:57:43I mean, crunch,
00:57:44he was just a brilliant player, Derek.
00:57:46Yeah, I can't understand
00:57:49why he never went to one of the bigger clubs,
00:57:51because he was an old-style winger,
00:57:53somebody who could take people on
00:57:55and create, get spectators off their seat.
00:57:58You're counting Hibs as a bigger club?
00:58:01Didn't do much there.
00:58:02Yeah.
00:58:02By the way, what about...
00:58:05I thought he was a great player.
00:58:06I thought Kevin McAllister was a great player.
00:58:08Neil McCann went back to Hearts.
00:58:09Rudy Scatchell went back.
00:58:12The guy, obviously,
00:58:13that you're moving to the podcast,
00:58:15your new podcast,
00:58:17Makaveni, you and Frank.
00:58:19You and Frank getting together, eh?
00:58:22I thought that was a great story told
00:58:24about getting to Celtic
00:58:26when he was signing for Partick Thistle.
00:58:27Yes, absolutely.
00:58:28Out in the park.
00:58:29Yeah, that's just...
00:58:30Fantastic story.
00:58:31There's not many people who could do that.
00:58:33If you're a Partick Thistle fan,
00:58:34it's not a great story.
00:58:35He was just about to sign for Partick.
00:58:37He'd been paraded in the Partick Thistle shirt
00:58:40and the scarf at Fairhill, on the pitch,
00:58:43and he got a call from Liam Brady,
00:58:45who says to him,
00:58:46have you signed in yet?
00:58:46He went, no.
00:58:47He says, come over and re-sign for Celtic.
00:58:49I mean, honestly,
00:58:49if I was a Partick Thistle fan,
00:58:52I would have had a go at him.
00:58:54Anyway, Kenny Miller.
00:58:56Kenny Miller.
00:58:57And Kenny Miller, I thought,
00:58:59was a success second time around at Rangers too.
00:59:01Is that fair?
00:59:02Yeah.
00:59:02I thought Kenny was good at Rangers
00:59:05second time around.
00:59:06So there's just...
00:59:07Why he's on that list then?
00:59:08Eh?
00:59:09Well, it wasn't a list of...
00:59:11Just people who went back?
00:59:12Just people who went back.
00:59:13Whether you think they're successful or not,
00:59:15there's some that are not.
00:59:16I mean, Pogba was a nightmare.
00:59:18Yes.
00:59:19Struggled.
00:59:20Yeah.
00:59:21Never struggled.
00:59:21He was hopeless.
00:59:23Yes.
00:59:23Yeah, absolutely.
00:59:26Ruffy, just a couple of things before we go.
00:59:28I saw a great thing in TikTok,
00:59:29which I think is ideal for you guys.
00:59:31Before we go, just before we go,
00:59:33Ruffy, a quick one.
00:59:35It was one of those ones,
00:59:35you know how you flick round
00:59:36and then there's a wee question that comes up?
00:59:38And it came up and it said,
00:59:39what three words would you tell yourself
00:59:41as an 18-year-old?
00:59:43Three words.
00:59:44If you could come back
00:59:45and just whisper in your ear.
00:59:47Now, by the way,
00:59:48we've got 60 seconds to go.
00:59:49Keep it clean.
00:59:51Keep it clean and we'll never be on again.
00:59:52Three words.
00:59:54Don't do that.
01:00:01That's just...
01:00:03That's...
01:00:04I'll not even bother going anywhere else.
01:00:05That is brilliant, isn't it?
01:00:07Three.
01:00:08Must work harder.
01:00:11Damn, I could not think of three better words
01:00:14for yourself.
01:00:15You'd still say that now.
01:00:17Yeah.
01:00:19Worked harder than I did back then.
01:00:20Yeah, absolutely.
01:00:22Mines would be...
01:00:23Mines, I just thought,
01:00:24mines, Ali,
01:00:25and I know you're going to agree with me,
01:00:27shut your mouth.
01:00:30Ali, have you got three?
01:00:32Don't drink that.
01:00:35Ali, that is absolutely brilliant.
01:00:37Anyway, listen,

01:00:56Yeah, the numbers per games have gone up.
01:00:59Percentages seem to be rising season on season.
01:01:02I think it augurs well.
01:01:03There's a lot of work still to be done.
01:01:06I think clubs would be the first to see that.
01:01:09The league bosses would be the first to see it.
01:01:11But I think the more exposure it gets,
01:01:12the better chance it's got of attracting people in.
