00:00:18And now we come to you in the arena, welcome to World Championship Wrestling at the WCW
00:00:48Wrestling's number one program in the world, it's WCW Monday Nitro.
00:00:54And we come to you live from the great state of Michigan and
00:00:58Saginaw in the Saginaw Civic Center.
00:01:02Did you see what surrounded Saginaw?
00:01:04What was that?
00:01:06Well, take a look, that's why GM went to Mexico.
00:01:09Tony Schiavone along with the living legend Larry Zabisco.
00:01:13We're going to go to the ring, open up with some great action here live on Nitro.
00:01:18And Larry, as James J. Dillon walked in, the first time we have seen James J.
00:01:24Dillon here in many, many years.
00:01:27The former leader of the Four Horsemen back in what many people say were their glory days back years ago.
00:01:33But you know, sources this week told me that JJ would indeed be named a spokesman for WCW here tonight.
00:01:41As we await, we've talked about many times tonight during this telecast,
00:01:46a major announcement concerning Eric Bischoff, his status, his dealings,
00:01:51his legal maneuvering, what has been going on since his suspension here tonight.
00:01:57Well, hopefully JJ can straighten it out.
00:01:59You know, Bischoff just left a contractual and financial fiasco in the South Tower,
00:02:04but maybe JJ will straighten it out.
00:02:07So hopefully we will hear a little bit later on from James J. Dillon as he arrives.
00:02:13Limousine here tonight.
00:02:15A capacity crowd as always for WCW Monday Nitro.
00:02:20The United States Heavyweight Champion Dean Malenko makes his way to the ring.
00:02:25His opponent, Yuji Nagata, the youngster from Japan,
00:02:29from the New Japan Pro Wrestling promotion, the native of Tokyo.
00:02:34A superior martial arts skill and a man who knows Dean Malenko very, very well.
00:02:40They've wrestled together as a team.
00:02:42They've wrestled against each other many times.
00:02:44This should be a great matchup, Larry.
00:02:46Yeah, obviously the Japanese guy looks up to Malenko.
00:02:49Mad master that he is.
00:02:51Again, I think another baby protege of Mr. Sonny Ono.
00:02:54I'm not positive, but it should be a good one.
00:02:57You know, the Japanese, everybody's got like a martial arts background there.
00:03:00They kind of are raised on martial arts like we're raised on, you know, football and baseball.
00:03:06It's second nature to them, but still, punches and kicks are great sometimes,
00:03:10but on the mat, Malenko is the man.
00:03:13Nagata, one of the top cruiserweights from New Japan Pro Wrestling.
00:03:16First time we have seen him here on Nitro.
00:03:18What a program we have, ladies and gentlemen.
00:03:20We have three title matches in this two-hour program.
00:03:24Tonight, you're seeing the U.S. title on the line.
00:03:26Later on, the TV belt, Ultimo Dragon and Bobby Eden.
00:03:29And six will defend the cruiserweight belt against Ray Mysterio Jr. later on tonight.
00:03:35What a match and what a night we're having already.
00:03:38Yeah, it's a good match. Malenko's one of my favorite guys.
00:03:40I mean, I'm a purist, so I love to watch Dean Malenko wrestle,
00:03:44especially a guy like this who can mix it up with the martial arts and the wrestling.
00:03:49But again, look at Malenko's strategy.
00:03:51Get the guy on the mat.
00:03:53Don't let the hands and feet become weapons.
00:03:56Certainly, Dean Malenko, when you are on top,
00:03:58when you are a champion, you have your share of enemies.
00:04:01And Malenko has certainly garnered one enemy,
00:04:04a mortal enemy, if you will, in one Eddie Guerrero.
00:04:07Last week on this program, attempting to injure his older brother, Hector,
00:04:11Eddie came out, and I think we really saw and heard the dark side of Eddie Guerrero
00:04:15we had not heard or seen in many, many years.
00:04:17Well, all the Guerreros, yeah, it's a very emotional family.
00:04:20I just think they can't take Malenko anymore.
00:04:23They've thrown so many family members, and Dean has beaten them all,
00:04:27and Eddie just can't wait to get him for revenge.

00:05:21Well, that's not gonna help him
00:05:23because there's no quarterbacks, there's no huddles,
00:05:26there's no ten other guys making room for Reggie to run through.
00:05:29He's got one man to face and one man only without pads,
00:05:32and that's a man who's been getting some experience, brother.
00:05:35Well, when you think about Reggie White
00:05:37and you think about the career he has had with the Packers...

00:05:45that Steve Mongo McMichael has with the Bears,
00:05:47and you're looking at Slamboree, WCW,

00:05:59Reggie of the past Super Bowl
00:06:01and Steve McMichael of the Bears back in their glory days, 1986,
00:06:05have ever faced one-on-one in the ring.
00:06:08I mean, you're talking about Bears vs. Packers
00:06:10in the ring at Slamboree.
00:06:12Without pads, finally like men, mano a mano.
00:06:16You know, it's not gonna be a Greco-Roman textbook wrestling match,
00:06:19but it certainly is gonna be like two semis running head-on.
00:06:23Boy, there's no question, good-looking Reggie.

00:06:27It's May 18th, brother.
00:06:29Yes, sir, a little bit more determination in his voice and his look.
00:06:33Last week in Philadelphia, he was just calmly watching at ringside,
00:06:37was just kind of absorbing everything that goes on,
00:06:39and now, seemingly, Reggie White is here tonight live with a purpose.
00:06:44Yeah, but Mr. White here, he better realize
00:06:46that McMichael has been off the gridiron,
00:06:49and he's been involved with men who know wrestling,
00:06:51even though Mongo isn't a very accomplished scientific wrestler.
00:06:55He knows a lot more in that ring than Reggie White does.
00:06:58So Mr. White has a big disadvantage as far as I'm concerned.
00:07:01Well, I think you're right.

00:07:04I think Reggie, though, realizes this,
00:07:06and that does not deter him.
00:07:08He is not intimidated.
00:07:09And you are talking, when you think about Reggie White of the Packers,
00:07:13Steve McMichael of the Bears,
00:07:15two of the greatest defensive linemen this sport, NFL football, has ever seen, Larry.
00:07:20So what do you want, the over or the under?
00:07:22It's going to be exciting bringing that match to you as part of Slamboree.
00:07:26What rivalry over the decades, over the years,
00:07:29between those two great franchises in the NFL,
00:07:32and what a rivalry that can go by here.

00:07:37Malenko caught him, cover one, got a one count that time,
00:07:42and Nagata finds himself in trouble.
00:07:44That was almost like a drop kick, but he hit him with the knee that time.
00:07:47Yeah, he got him with the knee, and he bent over too soon,
00:07:49and that was a clumsy mistake.

00:07:54Nagata hitting him with those thrust kicks.
00:07:56Yeah, fool me once, shame on you, but fool me twice, shame on me,
00:08:00and Malenko's not one man you can fool three times.

00:08:04Yeah, the key to that, Larry, was absorbing those blows and rebounding the way he did.

00:08:19and he almost beat him that time.

00:08:25he's basically immune to the martial arts background.
00:08:28He's so used to competing against it, and look at right there,
00:08:31heading the wrong place, Malenko nailed him, oh, he ran into it.

00:08:39that time looks like he was trying to hook tights,
00:08:41but Malenko was able to kick away.

00:10:15Wherever we go, all across the United States,
00:10:18even into Canada, the number one program
00:10:21on everyone's mind is Nitro.
00:10:24It is at the standard, and tonight, as we said,
00:10:26we've had one title match already,
00:10:28we have two more title matches to go.
00:10:31We have international stars, you saw Nagata,
00:10:34the opening bout, great cruiserweight from Japan,
00:10:37and here's another great cruiserweight,
00:10:39this one from Mexico, it's Tito Pei.
00:10:42Tito Pei, and what an interesting opponent,
00:10:45very mysterious man, Tony, Glacier.
00:10:48Glacier has really bragging rights
00:10:52that not many men in this sport can really attest to,
00:10:57and that is that he is undefeated.
00:11:00No one has defeated Glacier.
00:11:02He has been attacked repeatedly,
00:11:05especially when you think about what has happened
00:11:07to him ever since Uncensored,
00:11:09but the man is not lost in the ring as of yet.
00:11:14Now look at him, look at that eye.
00:11:16This man, I mean, he's got something behind that eye,
00:11:19man on a mission, and of course,
00:11:21you know about the James Vandenberg,
00:11:24I found out some more about him
00:11:26from that busybody Mike Tenet.
00:11:28You know, he was the former curator
00:11:31at the Museum of Medical Abnormalities in Taipei.
00:11:34What James Vandenberg was?
00:11:35Yes, and they busted him for stealing artifacts.
00:11:39That's something I would want on my resume,
00:11:41I can tell you that, but he is a weird character.
00:11:44You fans who watch WCW Saturday Night
00:11:46realize that Vandenberg and Mortis came out,
00:11:50tried to steal the helmet of Glacier,
00:11:54but Glacier stopped that.
00:11:55He still has that helmet with him.
00:11:57And speaking of artifacts,
00:11:58speaking of treasures and things that are precious,
00:12:01that helmet handed down to him
00:12:03from an instructor in Japan,
00:12:05and that is very precious, very important to him.
00:12:08They tried to take it.
00:12:09I don't know what for, Larry.
00:12:10Well, it's very sentimental to Glacier,
00:12:12but in terms of a collector,
00:12:14I mean, you're talking about something
00:12:16that could be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars,
00:12:19and of course in Japan, you know, 3 billion yen.

00:12:24where millions of people see you.
00:12:26Well, it's not the hard part stealing,

00:18:21that issue that seemingly

00:18:25and we saw it last week
00:18:26as we ended our program.

00:18:29but also the balance of power is turning.

00:18:36taken away from Bischoff.

00:20:08to be able to make a statement.
00:20:10But now, it seems to me that the very people
00:20:13that I wanted to make a statement against
00:20:15are the people that the NWO are catering to,
00:20:18people like Macho Man Randy Savage.
00:20:20Now, I told you people what he was about
00:20:22when he first came here to WCW,
00:20:24and he's proven me correct in the last few weeks.
00:20:27People like Eric Bischoff,
00:20:29who are so obsessed with power
00:20:31and letting somebody know,
00:20:32ooh, I'm the boss, I've got power,
00:20:35forcing people into doing his will,
00:20:38forcing people like Randy Anderson
00:20:40to come up and have to fight me.
00:20:42I didn't want to fight Randy Anderson.
00:20:44I also find Macho Man Randy Savage
00:20:46the largest fine in professional wrestling history,
00:20:49but I was told to keep my mouth shut
00:20:51as that fine was revoked.
00:20:53If you want somebody that's gonna stand up for WCW,
00:20:56take a look at what I've done.

00:43:38Two men had it not been for Eric Bischoff
00:43:40and even had it not been for Nick Patrick
00:43:43should be World Tag Team Champions right now, Larry.

00:43:48but the Steiner boys have been probably
00:43:50the two guys ripped off more than anybody.

00:47:33I tell you, we saw the Steiners and the fight they had,
00:47:36but we also heard a plea from Nick Patrick,
00:47:38and we found out that James J. Dillon,
00:47:41legendary man in our sport,
00:47:43the mentor of the Four Horsemen years ago,
00:47:45is now the chairman of the WCW executive committee.
00:47:48Well, it was an awfully eventful
00:47:49first hour of Nitro,
00:47:50and we're anticipating that in the second hour,
00:47:53we will be answering some very important questions
00:47:56about leadership roles
00:47:58within world championship wrestling.
00:48:00I think that we need someone
00:48:01to address specific issues
00:48:03concerning world championship wrestling
00:48:05and the new world order.
00:48:07If you want somebody that's gonna stand up for WCW,
00:48:10take a look at what I've done.
00:48:12When people walked out, I stayed.
00:48:15I was injured by Randy Savage.
00:48:17I still worked.
00:48:19When the Giant was in W.O., I was choke-slammed.
00:48:22I was pressed and thrown out to the floor,
00:48:24and I've been jackknifed by Kevin Nash.
00:48:27Bottom line is, I'm still here.
00:48:30You need an official
00:48:31that will stand up for what he believes in,
00:48:34and I'm that man.
00:48:35If WCW gives me the opportunity,

00:48:47between these four wonderful,
00:48:49tremendous athletes in our sport,
00:48:52and what a tag match these four men will have

00:49:50Well, earlier today, a good friend of mine,
00:49:52a man I've known for some 20 years,
00:49:54one of the most knowledgeable men
00:49:56in professional wrestling,
00:49:57he is the original leader of the Four Horsemen
00:50:01earlier today,
00:50:03named chairman of the WCW Executive Committee.
00:50:07My congratulations to you, J.J. Dillon.
00:50:10Well, Gene, thank you very much.
00:50:11It's a real honor for me to stand out here
00:50:14with the dean of wrestling broadcast journalists,
00:50:17and I've had the utmost respect for you
00:50:19for many, many years.
00:50:21This has been a very busy day for me, Gene.
00:50:23You have got your work cut out for you.
00:50:25There's no question about that.
00:50:26Certainly, Eric Bischoff is something
00:50:28that's gonna have to be addressed
00:50:30as well as all members of the NWO.
00:50:32Well, we want to look into all facets
00:50:34of world championship wrestling
00:50:36and really reevaluate all aspects of the company.
00:50:39Gene, I hate to interrupt you here.

00:50:44as you were and the fans were,
00:50:45when Nick Patrick came up here
00:50:47and made the plea to come back to WCW.
00:50:49What does he think of that
00:50:50and what has been going on with Nick Patrick?
00:50:52I'm sorry, yeah.
00:50:53J.J., good point just made by Tony Schiavone.
00:50:55A plea was made earlier tonight
00:50:57by former WCW referee Nick Patrick.
00:51:01I think this guy's got a clean slate.
00:51:03He wants to come back.
00:51:04It's gotta be something you're looking at.
00:51:05Well, Nick Patrick did petition for reinstatement.
00:51:08At this point, it is being taken under advisement.
00:51:10All right, I think, first and foremost,
00:51:12we gotta get around to the NWO.
00:51:14When you get around to the NWO,
00:51:16you gotta get around to a man that is very controversial,
00:51:19and that's Eric Bischoff.
00:51:20Gene, as soon as the meeting ended this morning
00:51:22and I was aware of what my responsibilities were,
00:51:25the first thing was to get a group of lawyers
00:51:28and look really in depth at the contract of Eric Bischoff.
00:51:31And I've got some good news and I've got some bad news.
00:51:34The good news is that Eric Bischoff
00:51:37has absolutely no authority.
00:51:39That is good news, J.J. Dillon.
00:51:42This crowd responding.
00:51:44And I think that Dr. Schiller made it crystal clear
00:51:47when he came out here and made the announcement
00:51:49of the suspension that Eric Bischoff
00:51:51has no financial responsibility, no contractual authority
00:51:55with World Championship Wrestling.
00:51:57And even though he's been very visible
00:51:59the last couple weeks, he still has no authority.
00:52:02All right. That's part of the news.
00:52:04That's the good news.
00:52:05What's part two, the bad news?
00:52:07The bad news is Eric Bischoff has an ironclad contract.
00:52:10Like most contracts, there is a buyout clause.
00:52:14In his case, it's not there.
00:52:16So Eric Bischoff, unless he breaches his contract,
00:52:19it is a valid contract.
00:52:21And what that means is that Eric Bischoff
00:52:24will retain his title as executive vice president.
00:52:27He will continue to get a paycheck.
00:52:31And he can go and come at events as he sees fit,
00:52:34but he still has no authority.
00:52:36But he's behind his win.
00:52:37Now, we look further into the NWO,
00:52:39and some of the contracts that he finalized
00:52:46before the suspension are all valid.
00:52:49So the NWO, by and large, is here to stay,
00:52:53with two exceptions.
00:52:56Two exceptions?
00:52:58Bagwell and Norton, they had a window of opportunity.
00:53:03They elected to go NWO. That's fine.
00:53:05But there were two exceptions, and that's Big Bubba,
00:53:08and I'm talking about Michael Wallstreet.
00:53:10Okay, Bubba's injured, though, right?
00:53:12He is injured, but the window of opportunity didn't exist.
00:53:15Their NWO contracts are not valid.
00:53:18They are still under contract at the WCW.
00:53:20Bite me.

00:53:24What kind of a way, Bischoff,
00:53:27is that to talk to the new chairman
00:53:29of the executive committee?
00:53:30You know what? You heard him say it.

00:53:42I think Dr. Harvey Shiller
00:53:44had even taken a close look at that.

00:53:55from doing anything I want to do with the NWO.

00:55:07To start with, I'll be the first one to acknowledge
00:55:10that you are the most powerful and influential person
00:55:13in the world of professional wrestling.
00:55:14And you have been for the last two years.
00:55:17It's mind-boggling what you've been able to accomplish.
00:55:20And I know firsthand because
00:55:22the standard of excellence two years ago
00:55:24wasn't set here.
00:55:25It was set up in New York,
00:55:27Stanford, Connecticut, to be specific.
00:55:29But what you have forgotten is
00:55:31that you didn't do it alone,
00:55:34that you had the support
00:55:35and you had the trust of people like Ted Turner,
00:55:38like Harvey Schiller,
00:55:40Hollywood Hogan,
00:55:42Paul and Nash.
00:55:44You had a trust,
00:55:46and you betrayed it.
00:55:48And that is not acceptable.

00:55:53And now there was another gentleman
00:55:55that came before him
00:55:56that made some of the same mistakes
00:55:58that I think he's making.
00:55:59And J.J. Dillon, he may get hit.
00:56:01Eric Bischoff has attempted
00:56:03to single-handedly destroy
00:56:05the heritage of this wonderful company
00:56:07that can be traced back for over 50 years.
00:56:10I shared it.
00:56:11I know I was part of it.
00:56:13And it's not acceptable.
00:56:14I am glad to say that J.J. Dillon is here
00:56:17and maybe now we'll get some law and order
00:56:20back at World Championship Monday.

00:58:19we all knew the history of this man.
00:58:21We all knew second-generation wrestler.
00:58:23We all knew how tough this man was.
00:58:25But since his affiliation with the Horsemen and Mungo,
00:58:28he's a new Jeff Jarrett.
00:58:29He's someone to watch. Be very careful of him.
00:58:31But let's show you what happened,
00:58:33what Mike was talking about
00:58:34this past week on WCW Saturday night
00:58:37on TBS' Super Station.
00:58:39Scotty Riggs gets the win.
00:58:41He got the win because Jeff Jarrett
00:58:43continued to argue with the referee.
00:58:45And then when he got the win,
00:58:47Jeff Jarrett went berserk, Mike, tonight.
00:58:50Well, it looks like he just went right over the edge
00:58:52at this point, Tony.
00:58:53And he attacked Scotty Riggs.
00:58:55And then post-match,
00:58:57we'll see that he gets Riggs up in the air.
