00:00Dream plus effort, that's what Carlos Yulo's goal was to get a double gold in the Olympics, which he didn't expect at first.
00:12Aside from the coaches who got used to him, Phil Britt's opponent, Jake Jarman, also contributed a lot because he was taught by PR Kangel.
00:26It's been more than two weeks since the two gold medals for the Philippines were used up.
00:34The golden hero of Philippine Gymnastics, Carlos Yulo, is still not completely relaxed.
00:40Are you able to breathe now, Carlos?
00:43I'm imagining that I can breathe.
00:47What are you imagining that you can breathe?
00:50After the Olympics, I thought I can breathe for weeks.
00:57I have nothing to do.
00:59But when it came, I was so busy.
01:02So your idea of breathing is that you're just at home all day, you don't have anything to do.
01:07Yes, that's what I thought.
01:09It's still a dream for Carlos, all that's happening to him now after winning the Olympics.
01:16In the Olympics, I just want to win a medal.
01:20And the medal itself is what I've been dreaming of since I was 12 years old.
01:27I still can't believe that I have the two medals that I worked so hard for.
01:35I'm super grateful for this journey.
01:40I'm thankful to myself and to the Lord, of course.
01:44He didn't leave me and he didn't give up on me.
01:47Carlos' journey wasn't easy in fulfilling one of his biggest dreams of winning an Olympic medal.
01:54The truth is, until he finished his floor exercise routine,
01:58he wasn't sure if he'll be able to win a medal or not.
02:02When you're like that, you feel that the gold is so close.
02:06Before I started on the floor, I saw that I was 14.9 plus the score of my competitor.
02:13I just focused on myself.
02:16I showed what I practiced and what I did.
02:21I was so happy.
02:23But I didn't know that I would win a gold medal.
02:27The vault where Carlos won a gold medal,
02:30seemed even harder for him.
02:32But what helped him here,
02:34was the fellow gymnast and Filipino-British Jake Jarman
02:38of Team Great Britain, whom he considers a close friend.
02:43So Jake is your old friend?
02:46I met him in 2018.
02:50I was 18 years old.
02:52I competed with him.
02:54I trained at their gym.
02:57In my second vault, it was really hard for me.
03:00He wasn't consistent.
03:02So I taught Jake.
03:04I mean, I trained at their gym.
03:08No, his technique really helped me.
03:13Did you thank him after the awarding ceremony?
03:17I told him to teach me more.
03:20Jake agreed.
03:21Yeah!
03:22In Carlos' career, he has been in many trainings.
03:26Just like his Japanese coach, Munehiro Kugimiya,
03:30who trained him in Tokyo, Japan.
03:32Carlos also lived in Japan for a few years.
03:35He is very thankful for the people who helped him there.
03:38Yes, thank you very much.
03:41I am really thankful from the bottom of my heart.
03:46What does that mean?
03:48Thank you for your support.
03:51From the heart, I am thankful to all of you.
03:55When Carlos returned from Paris,
03:57he was very happy to have the chance
04:00to bond with another athlete from Team Philippines.
04:03I am really excited to see A.J.
04:06He is from a different country.
04:08I haven't seen him before.
04:10When I saw him, I asked him how he is doing.
04:13I know that he had a hard time in his journey.
04:17I am super proud of what he did.
04:19I really respect our athletes.
04:24They inspire me.
04:27Carlos didn't expect a big homecoming parade.
04:31Earlier, the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines
04:34President Cynthia Carrion said
04:36that she was surprised by the warm welcome
04:39and the many activities prepared for the athletes.
04:42The female gymnasts,
04:44Alia Finnegan, Emma Malabuyo, and Levi-Rui Vivar,
04:49were the first to say that they were not invited
04:51to the Heroes Parade and activities in Malacanang.
04:54But Carrion also said that she didn't know
04:56that there was a Heroes Parade prepared.
04:58First of all, they were not here and we knew nothing about it.
05:01From my trip to Paris, to the Philippines,
05:05straight to Malacanang, I didn't expect that.
05:08I was not dressed for Malacanang.
05:10You only found out about the homecoming parade on the flight?
05:13Yes.
05:14En route to Manila.
05:15I heard something that Carlos will have and the medalists.
05:19I thought it's only Carlos and the medalists.
05:21I didn't think all the Olympians would be invited.
05:25If I had known about it, you think I would not invite them?
05:28Of course I will. I'm proud of them.
05:31You know, this is the first time in the history that they're getting,
05:34they haven't won, but they're getting finances.
05:38They're getting incentives.
05:40Even their coaches, their foreign coaches are getting it.
05:43First time.
05:44But Carrion doesn't want to make the issue bigger.
05:47She prefers to focus on the interest in gymnastics.
05:52Because just now, they're preparing for the Philippines to compete in the 2028 Olympics.
05:58If we can, we can do it.
06:00I want him not to go alone, but to have a team of four other gymnasts.
06:05So we really, I'm trying to look now for a foreign coach now to come.
06:09In the return of the golden hero of gymnastics in our country,
06:12many are hoping that this will be the emblem of the golden era,
06:16not only of Philippine gymnastics, but also of Philippine sports.
06:20For GMA Integrated News, Pia Arcangel.
06:23Tune in, 24 hours.
