00:47We need the critical mass to achieve this change for the people in the Asia-Pacific
00:53that is the most disaster-prone region in the world.
00:57In the palm of the Philippines, which is part of Asia-Pacific,
01:00to reduce the dangers of calamities,
01:04the U.N. Office for Disaster Risk Reduction launched the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in the country.
01:13The Philippines will be the host of the conference
01:16that will make the countries understand the dangers of climate change and activities that are harmful to the environment and affect us.
01:28We would like to project, number one, the resilience of the Filipino character
01:32as far as how we have been able to actually confront, overcome, and thrive under the face of these risks.
01:40The public and private sectors are targeting to make steps to reduce the risk of storms, earthquakes, and other calamities.
01:50They are using technology such as the early warning system to be prepared for disasters
01:56and to have an opportunity to raise funds for disaster risk reduction projects.
02:02Risk financing as in insurance.
02:04And the way we handle sub-national risk is one of those areas which we need to actually build on.
02:13Our agricultural sector, of course, is in need of a stronger insurance capacity.
02:22Cooperation is also being looked at in various countries to speed up the provision of assistance to areas affected by calamities.
02:30These are not just policy goals.
02:33They are vital components of a comprehensive approach that ensures no one is left behind as we build safer, more resilient communities.
02:43The assistance of 62 countries will be available.
02:47It will start from October 14 and will last for four days.
02:51Aside from being resilient to various disasters, events will also help our economy.
02:58This will boost our local economy.
03:02It will give strength to the world that the Philippines is open.
03:08The new Philippines is open for international conferences that can help local tourism, local businesses, and other international organizations.
