00:00Well, for some analysis, we can bring in our international affairs editor, Philip Turrell.
00:03Philip, hello.
00:04A pretty upbeat, unifying message there from Kamala Harris.
00:08Tell us, what were the main takeaways from her speech last night?
00:11Well, I think we've seen the opposite of what Joe Biden would have been if Joe Biden had
00:15been standing up there.
00:16She was young, she was confident, she was calm, really the anti-Biden image.
00:21And I think that has given her this momentum, this bounce forward, put her in a more favorable
00:27position in her capacity and ability to beat Donald Trump.
00:32But coming out of this convention, nothing really has changed, I think, as far as the
00:38Democrats' position of being the underdogs.
00:42They need now, what they really need to do is to keep this momentum going.
00:46And that's the most difficult thing.
00:48We're 74 days away from the poll now on the 5th of November.
00:52And the big question that everybody is saying, OK, Kamala Harris has taken control of the
00:55Democratic Party.
00:56She's got this huge popularity boost.
01:00She's neck and neck with Donald Trump in many of the opinion polls.
01:04She's clawing back some support in the very important swing states, notably, for example,
01:10Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia and Arizona.
01:13But can she keep that momentum up to actually beat Donald Trump when push comes to shove
01:18in the polls in November?
01:20And that is really the end of this Democratic convention.
01:23It's a bit like one giant love-in with everybody patting everybody on the back.
01:29But outside of that, there are still people who have a problem with voting for Kamala
01:32Harris.
01:33They are unsure about her policies.
01:36It's all very unclear what exactly she stands for.
01:40And there is a big question that she is unable to answer.
01:43And that's one that Donald Trump has put forward several times.
01:46And it is, well, if you're running for president, why haven't you solved the problems over the
01:51past three and a half years when you've been vice president under Joe Biden?
01:54You say you're going to improve the economy.
01:56Well, why haven't you done that already?
01:59And that is a really important issue that Kamala Harris is going to have to come to
02:03terms with and have to face, especially when she meets with Donald Trump at that upcoming
02:08television debate next month.
02:11Speaking of Donald Trump, he was reacting in real time to Kamala Harris's speech.
02:15What did we hear from him?
02:16Well, quite a lot.
02:17I mean, he posted 40 different posts during that speech she made.
02:23He called up Fox News, then he called up Newsmax and he called back Fox News, did interviews
02:28on those channels.
02:29The bottom line is 60 percent of Americans don't believe that the economy has improved
02:34under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
02:37And his argument all the way down the line is, well, do you want to go back again and
02:42have Kamala Harris in charge when the economy is in a much more difficult position than
02:51it was when I was in charge and I was president from 2016 onwards?
02:55And I think that is the challenge that Kamala Harris now faces.
