00:00Gator went first yesterday.
00:02I will go first today.
00:04Kang, let's go.
00:06Well, since you're going first, Doug, I got to put a layup here for you.
00:11Talk about Tom Brady, of course.
00:12All right, here we go.
00:13Tom Brady told Stephen A. Smith this week that I think it's a tragedy that we're forcing
00:18young rookies to play early.
00:20Brady said the reality is the only reason they're playing is because they've dumbed
00:25down the game, which has allowed them to play.
00:28Is Brady right here?
00:29Okay.
00:30Yeah, he's right, but I wouldn't use the term dumbed down, but when you are giving a rookie
00:36a starting job, there's no doubt you put less on their plate.
00:41I don't know why he's gone with the term dumbed down.
00:43I think if anyone should understand that, yeah, you don't, the rookies, you break them
00:48in slowly.
00:49You give them a chance of success.
00:50You help them master some things before, you know, they're not going to know the whole
00:55offense to a tee right away, but did he really use the word tragedy?
01:00Yes.
01:01Okay.
01:02Tom, bit of an overstatement.
01:04He's like you're 22, 22 year old kid.
01:06It's like, it's like a kid.
01:07Like everything's the best thing ever or the worst thing ever.
01:10Ruining it.
01:11Yeah.
01:12Or the ruining college football.
01:13A big new kickoff.
01:14Yeah.
01:15Got it.
01:16I just think it's a gross overstatement by Tom.
01:17The question is, is Brady right?
01:19No.
01:21In fact, Brady is jealous.
01:22He's jealous that today's quarterbacks are simply more athletic and becoming better passers
01:27by the day.
01:28So stop waving your fist up at the sky, Tom, and acknowledge that these guys are just great
01:34at doing things right now.
01:37They're, they're, they're playing against bigger, better, stronger and faster players
01:42than he ever did.
01:43It's not dumbing it down.
01:45It's surviving and thriving.
01:46That's what the new player can do.
01:48PS you're still the goat Tom, but we'll see for how long.
01:53I mean, there is definitely like some evidence of Brady being that old man on the lawn yelling
01:57at the clouds here, but I think, you know, the answer is probably a little bit of both.
02:01In the end, Brady's right because like you said, Doug, they are probably giving the young
02:05quarterback a little more time and something easier to deal with when they're breaking
02:10them in.
02:11I think the issue really is though, that there's less patience from owners and from fans now.
02:16So they have to play the young guys, even if they're quote unquote, not ready.
02:20Unfortunately, every player is different though.
02:22The path is to success is not the same for every player.
02:25You don't have to play every player right away because of money and, and, you know,
02:28being impatient.
02:30If you want to succeed, look at the player you drafted and see the best path of success
02:34for that player.
02:35And then do accordingly to that.
02:37All right.
02:38You don't have to play them all the way right away.
02:39All right.
02:42What's going to be stranger this season?
02:43Not seeing Nick Saban at Alabama, not seeing Bill Belichick at New England, or even not
02:47seeing Pete Carroll at Seattle.
02:50I'm going to say Saban.
02:51It seems like college coaches stay at schools forever.
02:55I know the Belichick was with New England for a long, long time.
02:58Obviously he had all that success, but his run at Bama was just sick with success.
03:03It feels like they didn't lose a whole lot when they actually played for a national championship.
03:08I don't know what his record was in national championship games at Alabama, but it seems
03:11like it was really good.
03:14I think he just edges Belichick out in this question.
03:18Well, Pete Carroll can frankly eat a bag on the sideline watching it because he's a big
03:22old cheater.
03:23So who cares about Pete Carroll?
03:26I agree with him on Saban.
03:30I find that whole thing to be weird.
03:31The way he walked away.
03:33I think Kalen DeBoer could have had a powerhouse at Washington, could have stayed there forever
03:37and got paid whatever he wanted, write his own check.
03:40And I can't escape this feeling that that's going to be a weird fit at Bama, but that's
03:44beside the point.
03:45For me, it's still Saban who's just Gators, right?
03:49College coaches seem more likely to stay in a place forever.
03:52That's us.
03:53Make it three for three.
03:54I got Saban too.
03:55The thing about college is the players will go eventually, you know, three, four years
04:00and then they move on.
04:01But the coach like that, like a coach like Nick Saban, they stay in the NFL.
04:06Players can stay longer than four years.
04:08You know, the mainstays do with the New England Patriots.
04:11You always Brady, of course, was there forever.
04:13Edelman, Gronk, you know, those guys stuck around.
04:16I think with Saban, that's the mainstay.
04:19That's the staple.
04:20When you looked over at Alabama, you knew players were going to come and go, but Saban
04:23would always be there.
04:24So for me, not seeing Saban on the sidelines, that's the more strange one out of all three.
04:29All right.
04:30Who gets a new deal, a new deal first out of these receivers, CeeDee Lamb, Brendan Ayuk
04:36or Jamar Chase?
04:37All three are looking to get paid.
04:39I'm stunned the Ayuk deal hasn't happened yet because it seemed really close.
04:43Dallas seems to drag their feet on everything and Jamar has two years left on his deal.
04:47So I'm going to say Ayuk is the first one to get paid and I still don't think it'll
04:51be with San Francisco.
04:52Wow.
04:53I'm going to go with Lamb.
04:56Even Gronk know the offense goes nowhere without CeeDee in Dallas.
05:00So I just feel like that that one's going to get done.
05:03Jerry's just going to say, all right, screw it here.
05:05Here's your damn money.
05:06Now let's play some football.
05:07How about them Cowboys?
05:09Yeah, Gator, I agree.
05:11CeeDee going to get paid.
05:12All right.
05:13Yeah.
05:14I think that they've been playing this game with CeeDee Lamb, but CeeDee Lamb is going
05:16to win this in the end.
05:17I think Ayuk, I don't know what's going on over there.
05:20I just, I thought it'd be done by now too, Doug, but the fact that this is dragged on
05:24this long, I feel like CeeDee Lamb is going to jump in there, get his contract first.
05:29Jamar Chase is playing this weird like hold in game.
05:31He does have two years left, but he wants to get paid now as well.
05:34But out of the three, I think Lamb gets paid first.
05:37All right.
05:41Give me a player that most NFL NFL fans know that will surprisingly get cut when cut down
05:47day happens.
05:48So I assumed you meant outside the lions and this was a tough question to answer right
05:53away.
05:54I'm looking at Cadareous Tony, the wide receiver from Kansas city.
05:58I feel like it's a name, but we all kind of know, and he's been a bust to this point.
06:05I mean, I think it's fair to label him that and this guy's with a former first round pick
06:07and just hasn't lived up to the expectations.
06:09And listen, when you're playing in Kansas city, there is a high standard when you're
06:15playing on that team.
06:16They demand excellence and he's not living up to it.
06:19And if you can't play with Patrick, my homes, then you're just not going to be around.
06:23Okay.
06:24This is one part possible and one part wishful thinking.
06:28Okay.
06:29Here we go.
06:30Buckle up.
06:31Atlanta cuts quarterback, Taylor Heineke.
06:35And what's weird is that Michael Pennix started the first game for them and played 24 snaps
06:40and Raheem Morris said, I'm good.
06:43You're sitting down the rest of the preseason.
06:45They love Pennix.
06:47And I think it's clear that Pennix they're treating him like he's their number two quarterback.
06:51I don't know why they don't think he needs more snaps, but they're treating him like
06:55he's the backup.
06:56So I think Heineke gets replaced and please report to Allen park.
07:00Oh, okay.
07:01Okay.
07:02That affects the Lions there.
07:03Gator.
07:04I do agree with Caderius Tony.
07:05I mean, they went out and drafted Xavier Worthy.
07:07They went out and got Marquise Hollywood Brown.
07:09So I think he's on his way up.
07:10But to give you a different name, I'll go with the Eagles defensive back, James Bradbury.
07:14Okay.
07:15They went out and drafted two defensive backs just like the Lions did and Cooper Dejean
07:19and Quinion Mitchell.
07:20They also got Kylie Ringo, by the way.
07:22I think they're trying to move Bradbury to safety, but I think he gets beat up because
07:26he can't play special teams.
07:28And that's important.
07:29Once you start getting deep into the secondary, James Bradbury gets cut, but I agree with
07:32Tony too.
07:33I think he's done.
07:34All right.
07:39Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey hit a 66 yard field goal last Saturday versus the Raiders.
07:44Call it now.
07:45Are we going to see a 70 plus yard field goal this year?
07:47I don't think so.
07:48I mean, Aubrey kick, he's not the only one that can try these, but it looked like it
07:52just cleared the goal post.
07:54And so I, you know, good for him.
07:56That's amazing.
07:59But I also started to think of the absurdity of taking over on your own 20, just barely
08:02getting two first downs and being in field goal range.
08:05Do you know how weird it is to see a kicker standing on his own 37 yard line, lining up
08:11to take a kick and the ball being spotted at the 40, like it's just, thank you for doing
08:16the math.
08:17It's just bizarre to me that the teams can try field goals from this far out.
08:24I mean, it's exciting though, and they're low percentage kicks.
08:27Look, I mean, put it this way.
08:30If the Lions were in that position and we saw Jake Bates hit one from 94 yards yesterday,
08:36if the Lions are in this position.
08:37Gator made a comment yesterday during practice on a 30 yard field goal.
08:40That was good, but it would have been good from 80.
08:42So if the game's on the line, it's a regular season game, it's on the line.
08:48Would you rather see Jake Bates line up for a 70 yarder or do you want to do the back
08:52and forth thing or you want to try to, you know, heave ho and, and see if you can throw
08:58it down the field for a touchdown.
09:01I'm guessing the back and forth thing, but I don't know if he can hit it because we're
09:05going to practice it.
09:06Fans want to see the 70 yard, but I'm going to say this, the answer is no, we're not going
09:10to see it this year.
09:11I mean, it's like breaking a hundred miles an hour in baseball, right?
09:13People are doing it, but it feels like every mile an hour past it is a different milestone
09:18to get to.
09:19You've got to get to 67 and 68 and 69 before you get to 70.
09:25But I don't think, I don't think we're going to see 70 this year.
09:27I think we'll see 70 in our lifetime.
09:29I just don't think we'll see it this year.
09:30I agree with our lifetime.
09:32The question is this year, right?
09:35Well, first thing comes up is opportunity.
09:37You have to have the opportunity to actually go for a 70 yard.
09:40No one's just going to go for it in the middle of the, you know, the first quarter you would
09:43think.
09:45I think it happens, guys.
09:46I think someone at the end of a half, end of a game, someone like Brandon Aubrey or
09:51Jake Bates says, McManus, whoever the big leg kicker out there is, Tucker, says, coach,
09:57I can do this.
09:58I've been hitting it.
09:59The wind's working, you know, all this.
10:00I think we see it, boys.
10:0170 plus yarder.
10:02It's going to be ridiculous.
10:03I give him four points for that.
10:05All right, last one.
10:07United States flag football national team quarterback, Darryl Hoosh Doucette said this
10:13week on TMZ Sports that he's actually better than Patrick Mahomes at flag football.
10:18OK, he just thinks his IQ in flag football is better than Mahomes would be.
10:22Is he right?
10:23Or is this crazy talk?
10:24If you had to pick a quarterback for the Olympic team for the USA, who would it be, Doucette
10:31or Patrick Mahomes?
10:32I tell you, I'm going to say Doucette, and here's why.
10:36Flag football requires a different set of skills than what the NFL does in some ways.
10:40OK.
10:41It takes elusiveness and quickness.
10:43It takes the lead over the passing ability and even creativity.
10:47I think actually that like lightweight boxers would be fantastic ball carriers in flag football
10:54because they're so quick and they're so elusive and you're like, what just happened?
10:58I think basketball players make amazing wide receivers with the height differential and
11:03just go up and get it.
11:04That's what they used to do with getting somebody who's used to getting rebounds.
11:06Sam Benyama would make an amazing wide receiver in a flag football setting.
11:13That being said, I don't want to take it all away from Patrick Mahomes because he's the
11:16best quarterback out there right now, but he doesn't move like I don't know what Doucette
11:21looks like, but I'm guessing he's 5'8", 140 pounds.
11:23OK, so it's like Kyler Murray.
11:25I'd rather have that kind of elusiveness than to have the guy who's just the greatest passer
11:29and creative as hell.
11:30I think this is hysterical that Hoos comes out and says this.
11:34I mean, good for him.
11:35I OK.
11:36Hey, I might be a better skater than Patrick Mahomes.
11:38I might be better at downhill skiing than Patrick Mahomes.
11:41Who cares if people are going to watch me skate or they'd rather watch Patrick Mahomes?
11:46I choose Patrick Mahomes to be the quarterback of our flag football team.
11:49It doesn't matter who our quarterback is.
11:51We're going to win by 100.
11:54That's probably true, actually, but you got to go with the best and that's Hoosh, man.
11:58Flag football is a different game.
11:59That's like saying, hey, I'm a better putt putt golfer than Tiger Woods.
12:03It's just different.
12:04We're not out there on tour, you know.
12:06Flag football requires a different set of skills, like you said, Gator.
12:10Hoosh 5'8", 140 pounds, but he just knows the game.
12:13It's not the same as football.
12:14It's totally different.
12:15If you want to bring home the gold, you bring Hoosh and the boys.
12:19Hoosh.
12:20Hoosh.
12:21And that concludes the Y9 Omaha 4 Down Around the League Blitz thingy.
