Singapore Airlines has become the first international carrier to commit to using the new western Sydney Airport. The 5.3-billion-dollar project to be known as an Aerotropolis is scheduled to open in 20-26.

00:00The Prime Minister has today confirmed that Singapore Airlines will be the first international
00:06carrier to operate out of the new Western Sydney International Airport.
00:11Construction of the airport is currently sitting at almost 85%, with an opening date set for
00:16late 2026.
00:18Until now, the only carriers confirmed to be operating out of the airport were Qantas
00:22and Jetstar, both of which committing only to domestic routes around Australia.
00:27Speaking on the newly built runway, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed that the
00:31addition of Singapore Airlines will see flights to Europe, the US and Asia from Western Sydney
00:37Airport.
00:38It will connect Western Sydney with the world and it will boost jobs, investment and opportunities
00:44right here in Western Sydney.
00:47What we're seeing is for the first time, Sydney rather than looking inward to the east, towards
00:53the CBD and towards the harbour, looking west to where most Sydneysiders live.
01:00And that is why this is such an important piece of infrastructure.
01:06Without being subject to the same time restrictions that Sydney Airport is, the Western Sydney
01:10International Airport is expected to service 10 million customers annually and is hoped
01:15to create competition within the aviation sector that will drive down prices for consumers.
