00:00Welcome to MissMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the Top 10 Movie Twists
00:10that ruined the movie.
00:12Is this Hide and Seek, are we really going to play that?
00:15Can I make a suggestion that doesn't involve violence, or is this the wrong crowd?
00:20I think that we both know, it's time for me to go.
00:23For this list, we'll be looking at times when movie makers threw an unexpected curveball
00:28in the story, which made it unbearable to watch again.
00:31Since major plot points will be discussed, a spoiler warning is now in effect.
00:36What unexpected plot twist soured your taste for a movie?
00:39Let us know in the comments.
00:4210.
00:43None of it was real.
00:45Nothing to hide.
00:58This French film has an interesting take on a dinner party.
01:01Aside from the typical conversational fare, the group all surrender their smartphones
01:05to the middle of the table.
01:07Should any of them get a call, text, or message, the details would be shared with the entire
01:11group.
01:12This, of course, leads to a plethora of secrets being revealed, and to a lesser extent, comments
01:18on smartphone culture and our unhealthy attachment to them.
01:31The story then falls flat as we learn the entire game, with the phones, has been nothing
01:36more than a what-if story, and the biggest part of this movie wasn't real.
01:41Been there, done that, no thanks.

01:52Abducted by Aliens – The Forgotten
02:08In The Forgotten Opens, we find Julianne Moore's character Telly mourning the loss
02:13of her son Sam.
02:14He died over a year ago, and Telly is still dealing with the emotional aftermath.
02:34The movie tries to explore the concept of loss by having everyone in her life seemingly
02:39forget that Sam ever existed.
02:41It gives us a unique window into the bond a mother has with her son, but goes off the
02:45rails completely when people who try to tell her the truth get yanked into the sky.
03:02Aliens have used her motherly bond as an experiment on human beings.
03:06It's a twist that devolves quickly and takes away from the real story of loss.
03:188.
03:22It Was All A Dream – Savages At the end of the movie, The Devil's Advocate,
03:27we find Keanu Reeves' character Kevin losing his life in defiance of the Devil.
03:32The audience quickly learns that his death wasn't real, and most of the movie was in
03:37Kevin's head.
03:46It's a twist that surprised and delighted viewers.
03:49Savages tried to pull the same stunt when Ophelia wakes up after having dreamt about
03:54the death of her loved ones in a drug cartel-related murder.
04:13Both movies use the It Was All A Dream trope, but unlike The Devil's Advocate, this one
04:18falls flat.
04:19With so much action and intensity around Chon, Ben, and Ophelia, the dream just yanks any
04:25of the stakes of the film away, leaving viewers with a sour taste.
04:337.
04:36Exploding Family – Ready Or Not Talk about killer in-laws.
04:41On her wedding day, Grace learns of a terrible curse that has plagued her fiancé Alex's
04:46family.
04:47A deadly bout of hide-and-seek follows, as the LeDomas family tries to harm Grace before
04:53dawn, believing if they fail, they will experience a terrible punishment.
05:05Audiences sat on the edge of their seats, watching Grace dodge capture repeatedly.
05:10So it comes as a shocker when she finally does get caught, the sun rises, and the family
05:15literally explodes.
05:17The shattering ending undermines the entire chase of Grace, and leaves audiences wondering
05:23what exactly the point of everything was.
05:266.
05:27Best Friend Was A Ghost – Safe Haven Here's yet another attempt to retell a story
05:37about escaping unhealthy relationships.
05:40In this version, the main character Erin has fled from her cruel husband, and is now living
05:45in Southport, North Carolina, under her new name, Katie.
05:49The typical movie tropes about romance, friendship in a new town, and the return of her husband
05:54are all present and accounted for.
06:02You can already see the ending of the movie coming, and just as it unfolds like you expect
06:06it to, she finds out her best friend is… a ghost?
06:11Of her boyfriend's deceased wife?
06:13Really?
06:14It comes out of nowhere and serves no purpose other than shock value.
06:185.
06:19Ben Dies After Kissing Rey – Star Wars Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker
06:37With the launch of the new Star Wars trilogy, fans were introduced to Ben Solo, aka Kylo
06:55Ren.
06:56Meant to serve as the primary adversary in the films, Kylo's journey was one filled
07:01with conflict.
07:02As much as he wanted to be the next Darth Vader, his journey led him to finding redemption
07:07through the eyes of our new Jedi hero, Rey.
07:19Mirroring that of Luke Skywalker's path with Vader, the writing was on the wall that Ben
07:24wasn't going to make it at the end of the third film.
07:27But did they have to bump him off after saving Rey's life?
07:30We waited three films for them to come together, only to see him die moments later.
07:36Just not fair.
07:424.
07:48Wash Dies – Serenity For a show that only lasted one season, it's
07:57pretty incredible to see how much love fans have given this show.
08:00After being cancelled by Fox in 2002, fan support for the show eventually resulted in
08:05the filming of the 2005 movie Serenity, which was meant to conclude the story.
08:10Fans were ecstatic to see their favourite brown coats finally brought back for one more
08:15battle.
08:16Their elation quickly dropped as fan-favourite character Wash died near the end of the movie.
08:27Given that they had already lost Shepard earlier, this seemed like an unnecessary plot
08:32twist that no one wanted.
08:373.
08:40It's Set in Modern Times – The Village When you see that M. Night Shyamalan is the
08:56director of a movie, it's a foregone conclusion there's going to be some major plot twist
09:02near the end.
09:09Everyone was floored by the ending of Sixth Sense, and both Unbreakable and Signs kept
09:14his twists going.
09:15In 2004's The Village, we thought we were looking at a group of people living in the
09:191800s, and were afraid to go beyond their borders.
09:23Yet when Ivy ventures out beyond the wall, we see a ranger driving, and learn that the
09:28entire 19th century community exists in modern times, within a protective forest reserve.
09:38It's a clever twist, but undoes much of the setting of the film, and undermines the uniqueness
09:43of the world we've been presented.
09:492.
09:53Abe Lincoln Memorial – Planet of the Apes Sometimes, plot twists allow the viewer to
10:03see the movie in a whole new context.
10:05Other times, it's a trope used far too often, and it turns audiences away.
10:10Then you have Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes.
10:20Supposedly inspired by the original 1968 film, we again see a space-age astronaut being flung
10:27onto a planet ruled by apes.
10:29Unlike the original, however, the final scene of the movie doesn't provide any revelations
10:34about where he was.
10:35Instead, we get an ape version of Abraham Lincoln, and a whole lot of moviegoers scratching
10:41their heads as to why.
10:53It may be closer to the original Pierre Boulle book, but that certainly doesn't make it
10:58a good ending.

11:20The Mandarin Wasn't Real – Iron Man 3 Up until the latter half of Iron Man 3, audiences
11:38were petrified of a mystical Mandarin.
11:41He was responsible for several high-profile bombings, and was honing in on the United
11:45States.
11:46The scale of mystery that surrounded him made him that more scary as the movie went
11:51on.
11:52Yet, when Tony Stark finally discovers him, we learn the Mandarin isn't real.
11:57He's an actor named Trevor Slattery, who's been paid to portray him by Aldrich Killian.
12:12This fake-out severely disappointed Marvel fans as the real Mandarin from the comics
12:17was a legendary supervillain and archenemy of Iron Man.
12:21Thankfully, we were promised the real deal for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
