00:00On Plymouth Island, no one dies.
00:02It isn't meant to be that kind of game.
00:05Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most audience-insulting
00:10twists that derailed movies that would have been better without them.
00:13Obviously, we're revealing major plot twists, so here's a spoiler alert.
00:16Hmm, what a day.
00:23Number 10, He Gave Her His Heart, Last Christmas
00:27Put it in your heart and keep it, something that I want you to know.
00:33Plenty of movies have been based on songs.
00:35This 2019 holiday romcom starring Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding took things to a very literal
00:41level.
00:42Who's died?
00:43My previous owner.
00:44Who?
00:45Someone Webster, I think.
00:46A youngish bloke.
00:47Sad, really.
00:48It was last Christmas, by all accounts.
00:52Clarke plays a wandering soul looking for direction in life.
00:55She's the recent recipient of a donor's heart.
00:56Don't worry, it'll become relevant later.
00:58When she meets a kind-hearted guy played by Henry Golding, the sparks fly.
01:10Well, who do you think gave her the heart?
01:12That's right.
01:13In a wild but insanely straightforward take on the title song's lyrics, Golding's
01:16character is a ghost sent to remind Emilia Clarke to not take her life for granted.
01:21Their romance was nothing more than a distraction from an absurd third-act reveal.
01:25Take care of my heart.
01:28I promise.
01:29It was always going to be yours, one way or another.
01:349.
01:35The Pointless Confession – The Life of David Gale
01:37Kevin Spacey plays an anti-death-penalty advocate seemingly framed for murder.
01:42Someone's framing you.
01:43Oh, it's more than that.
01:47There was a tripod.
01:48When his lawyer's attempts to exonerate him fail, we naturally side with the movie's
01:51thesis.
01:52The death penalty is wrong and can lead to the wrongful murder of an innocent person.
01:56He was pronounced dead at 6.12pm, strapped to the gurney at 6.02.
02:01Well, then the movie decides to top its own labyrinthine plot.
02:05The epilogue reveals that Gale and the presumed murder victim plotted the whole mystery as
02:09a complex protest against the death penalty, a protest they both had to die for.
02:14It's a twist that undermines everything that came before it.
02:17It's over.
02:20If the plan is to discredit capital punishment, why does Gale reveal the plan to a journalist
02:24and risk discrediting himself?
02:278.
02:28A Secret Society – Glass
02:30You're fighting for the broken.
02:32Look, it's M. Night Shyamalan.
02:34One of the tenants got murdered off-site and people are on edge.
02:37You know a twist is coming sooner or later, and you also know it's a 50-50 chance that
02:41it lands.
02:42Glass was one that didn't land.
02:44Tell me the truth.
02:46Did I almost convince you you were an ordinary man?
02:49In fact, it saw the writer-director's underrated Unbreakable trilogy limp to the finish line.
02:54Psychiatrist Dr. Staple, played by Sarah Paulson, reveals to the dying Mr. Glass that she does
02:59believe in the character's superhuman abilities.
03:01There just can't be gods amongst us.
03:05It's not fair.
03:07Actually, she's part of an ancient society whose sole purpose is to suppress information
03:11about the existence of people with supernatural abilities.
03:14We're not executioners, and we don't need martyrs.
03:17This disappointing revelation, coupled with the fact that the superhuman characters we'd
03:21come to know and love all died in quick and anticlimactic succession, didn't please
03:26most viewers.
03:27His thoughts are a mixture of fear and sweet relief.
03:347.
03:35Clones Now?
03:36Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom
03:38What are you going to do?
03:39We're going to stop this.
03:41All of it.
03:42How?
03:43Well, you're going to go back in time before Hammond decided to play god?
03:45You can't put it back in the box!
03:47Maybe it was always going to come to this.
03:49If you keep making movies about dinosaur clones running rampant, eventually someone's
03:53going to get the bright idea to make human clones too.
03:55Well, the revelation that Dr. Lockwood's granddaughter Maisie was a clone of his own
04:00daughter didn't sit too well with audiences.
04:02I had to.
04:05They're alive.
04:07Like me.
04:08This was just one too many complications, even for longtime fans who enjoyed the simple,
04:13visceral thrills of the original series.
04:16The human clone twist was carried over into the next movie, Jurassic World Dominion, which
04:21made over $1 billion but got the worst reviews of the series.
04:25And rumors persist of a human clone who mysteriously disappeared, leading to a worldwide search.
04:326.
04:33Blofeld All Along
04:34Spectre
04:35Information is all.
04:37Is it not?
04:39For nearly 50 years, the James Bond series avoided over-complicated, multi-sequel story
04:44arcs.
04:45All the looniest plot twists were usually contained to a singular narrative and discarded
04:49afterwards.
04:50Back from the dead.
04:51The revelation that his classic arch-nemesis, Ernst Stavro Blofeld, was his long-lost foster
04:56brother and the real mastermind behind his last few missions was a massive letdown.
05:01Me.
05:02It was all me, James.
05:05It's always been me.
05:08The author of all your pain.
05:10Not only was it ludicrous and ill-advised, it retroactively cheapened the villains Daniel
05:14Craig's Bond had faced up to that point.
05:16Why not find ways for Bond to exist in the 21st century without becoming some MCU copycat?
05:21No, no, no, no, no, no.
05:22Turn this off.
05:23Your word.
05:25The word of an assassin.
05:27Turn this off.
05:28This is important.
05:29I said turn it off!
05:315.
05:33The Final Battle Didn't Even Happen
05:35Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 2
05:37The collective groan audiences let out in this scene could have probably powered a hot
05:41air balloon.
05:42It doesn't matter what I show you.
05:45Even when you see, you still won't change your decision.
05:50Look, any Twilight fan knows there are some questionable if not downright unhinged moments
05:55across its five films.
05:56But this one was just an insult.
05:58In the last movie, viewers watched as two warring factions clashed in a bloody and devastating
06:03battle in the snow.
06:04Actually, wait.
06:05It was just one of Alice's visions.
06:07Now you know.
06:09Not your future.
06:11Unless you decide on another course.
06:13It reeked of cheap shock.
06:15The makers clearly wanted the thrill of watching beloved characters die without having to commit
06:19to it.
06:20It may have followed the book, but for the uninitiated, it comes off as a cynical, irritating
06:27ploy for a big battle sequence with little payoff.
06:31There is no danger here.
06:35We will not fight today.
06:41Despite an all-star cast, this 2019 high-concept thriller failed to win much love from viewers
06:47or critics.
06:48Matthew McConaughey plays a fisherman whose ex hires him to murder her new husband.
06:52This can be just business.
06:56You need money.
06:57Me and Patrick need a way out.
06:59What starts as a noir-ish mystery is soon turned completely on its head.
07:03McConaughey's character soon realizes he is a character in a computer game.
07:07Did you get it?
07:08Someone made the whole thing up.
07:10Through some bizarre and unconvincing twists in logic, he realizes he is just a piece of
07:14artificial intelligence in an artificial world created by his son.
07:18Or at least, the real-world version of his son.
07:20Serenity is two interesting premises nested into one, and neither one works.
07:25But now, it seems the fish is no longer the point.
07:30The new game is that you kill a man.
07:38A movie about four magicians suspected of an elaborate bank heist, you know there will
07:42be plot twists.
07:43Yes, Now You See Me has plenty of twists and turns, but it may have twisted itself into
07:47an impossible knot with its revelation about FBI agent Dylan Rhodes, played by Mark Ruffalo.
07:52Always a step ahead of me.
07:55And the FBI got past them, not once, not twice, but consistently.
08:00Almost as if they were on the end.
08:03Rhodes is the guy leading the charge against the magicians, but as it turns out, he's
08:07not just FBI, he's the son of a disgraced magician, and he's also the mastermind behind
08:12the entire heist.
08:13They cut corners, and when he got to the bottom of the river, the safe warped, and he was
08:18trapped.
08:21He was your father.
08:22Also, we just watched an entire movie about a guy trying to catch a bunch of criminals
08:26who are working for him.
08:28They really pulled their twist out of their, uh, hat.
08:32Yeah, let's go with that.
08:33So he gave me his watch, and he told me to count the seconds until he came back.
08:39I've never let his watch stop since then.
08:46You know, I'd like to thank you for opening my eyes to a brave new world.
08:53When you're remaking a movie that has one of the most iconic plot twists of all time,
08:57you're already at a disadvantage.
09:00Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes doesn't end with the twist that Mark Wahlberg's
09:03astronaut character was on Earth the whole time.
09:14When he returns to Earth, seemingly in the present day, he finds a statue of the villainous
09:18ape Thade that has replaced the Lincoln Memorial.
09:21Whether through confusing time loops or some alternate universe oddness, the apes have
09:25already conquered Earth.
09:36It doesn't have the same punch as the original, because it raises so many more questions than
09:40it answers.

10:00A love story between two traumatized young people makes for a cliched, but ultimately
10:04harmless romantic drama.
10:13That is, until the ending.
10:15Robert Pattinson's character is visiting his father at work when the movie reveals
10:18that he is in one of the towers of the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001.
10:23Even people who liked the movie found this twist hard to stomach.
10:36At best, it only worked to upstage the compelling story around it, and at worst, cheapen the
10:41very real tragedy of that day.
10:43The same message could have been conveyed without tying its fate to a real-life tragic
10:46event for cynical cultural relevance.
10:56Can you think of a bad plot twist that ruined an otherwise good movie?
