00:00Newcastle United are through to the Carabao Cup third round following a penalty shootout win here
00:05at Nottingham Forest this evening 1-1 after 90 minutes another disjointed another frustrating
00:1190 minutes for Newcastle couldn't have started much better though Joe Willock 18 seconds in
00:17scores following a parried shot from Alexander Isak and yeah Newcastle nearly went 2-0 up
00:24only a few minutes later Sandro Tonali on his return to the side a really promising return
00:28from Sandro Tonali to be honest got to enjoy a moment with the fans at the end embracing
00:33them who chanted his name all evening it was a really positive return for Sandro Tonali has to
00:38be said given he's been out for 10 months he wasn't absolutely at his barnstorming best but
00:44just a touch of class a swagger played the ball around really well he was one of Newcastle's
00:49better players but not saying an awful lot because Newcastle's performance levels again
00:55not really in top gear just yet sort of similar sort of level to what we saw at Bournemouth on
01:02Sunday and yeah after a great start Forrest got back into the game Jota equalized shortly after
01:08half time about the 15 minute mark Newcastle failed to clear the danger from a throw-in
01:13Forrest equalized and and had a spell where they looked like they could go on and win the game but
01:19then Eddie Howe makes his changes he brings Tino Liveromento on Sean Longstaff on Anthony Gordon
01:24on switches Harvey Barnes out to the right wing and that right side Harvey Barnes and Tino
01:29Liveromento really quite effective in the final 20 minutes or so and Newcastle looked like the
01:34side likely to go on to win it unfortunately they didn't in normal time but fortunately
01:40they did on penalties it was a interesting penalty shootout it looked like it was Forrest
01:45to lose at one point Joe Linton missed and then Forrest missed their last two penalties Sean
01:51Longstaff puts Newcastle through 4-3 in the shootout and now in a way tie at AFC Wimbledon
01:58in the next round to look forward to next month so yeah a real positive evening on the whole
02:04Sandro Tonali back the negative being losing Joe Willock through a thigh injury not sure how
02:10serious that is but Eddie Howe said it doesn't look good but all in all through to the next round
02:15that's all the matters
