Transcript
00:00The Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, the Lord be with you.
00:20Dear brothers and sisters, today we celebrate the passion of St. John the Baptist.
00:26We remember that the forerunner of the Lord, John the Baptist, sealed his witness to the Lord by the giving of his life in martyrdom.
00:36And so we also pray in this Mass for those who are suffering for the cause of truth and justice all over the world,
00:43that they will continue to receive strength as they fight for what is right,
00:48and also that one day the Lord will give them the justice that they deserve.
00:53And also we continue to pray for each other, for your intentions, you who are joining us for Mass, wherever you may be.
01:00And so throughout this Mass, I invite you to pray for those whose intentions and comments you see down in our feed here.
01:11And yeah, that we continue to keep each other surrounded by prayer and by calling to God for help.
01:20So dear brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
01:29Lord Jesus, you came to reconcile us to the Father and to one another. Lord, have mercy.
01:36You healed the wounds of our sin and division. Christ, have mercy.
01:42You intercede for us with the Father. Lord, have mercy.
01:47May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.
01:53Let us pray.
01:55O God, who willed that St. John the Baptist should go ahead of your Son, both in his birth and in his death,
02:03grant that as he died a martyr for truth and justice, we too may fight hard for the confession of what you teach.
02:11For our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever.
02:23A reading from the Prophet Jeremiah.
02:25The word of the Lord was addressed to me, saying,
02:29Brace yourself for action. Stand up and tell them all I command you.
02:33Do not be dismayed at their presence, or in their presence I will make you dismayed.
02:39I, for my part, today will make you into a fortified city, a pillar of iron and a wall of bronze to confront all this land,
02:49the kings of Judah, its princes, its priests, and the country people.
02:55They will fight against you, but shall not overcome you.
03:00For I am with you to deliver you. It is the Lord who speaks.
03:05The word of the Lord.
03:09I will sing your salvation. I will sing your salvation.
03:14In you, O Lord, I take refuge. Let me never be put to shame.
03:19In your justice, rescue me, free me, pay heed to me, and save me.
03:25I will sing your salvation.
03:28Be a rock where I can take refuge, a mighty stronghold to save me.
03:33For you are my rock, my stronghold. Free me from the hand of the wicked.
03:38I will sing your salvation.
03:41It is you, O Lord, who are my hope, my trust, O Lord, since my youth.
03:45On you I have leaned from my birth. From my mother's womb you have been my help.
03:51I will sing your salvation.
03:53My lips will tell of your justice, and day by day of your help.
03:58O God, you have taught me from my youth, and I proclaim your wonders still.
04:03I will sing your salvation.
04:06Alleluia, alleluia. Happy are they who suffer persecution for justice' sake.
04:12The kingdom of heaven is theirs. Alleluia.
04:21The Lord be with you.
04:23A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark.
04:54Because Herod was afraid of John, knowing him to be a good and holy man, and gave him his protection.
05:02When he had heard him speak, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he liked to listen to him.
05:08An opportunity came on Herod's birthday when he gave a banquet for the nobles of his court,
05:14for his army officers, and for the leading figures in Galilee.
05:19When the daughter of this same Herodias came in and danced, she delighted Herod and his guests.
05:25So the king said to the girl, Ask me anything you like, and I will give it to you.
05:31And he swore her an oath, I will give you anything you ask, even half my kingdom.
05:38She went out and said to her mother, What shall I ask for?
05:42She replied, The head of John the Baptist.
05:46The girl hurried straight back to the king and made her request.
05:50I want you to give me John the Baptist's head here and now on a dish.
05:55The king was deeply distressed, but thinking of the oaths he had sworn and of his guests,
06:02he was reluctant to break his word to her.
06:05So the king at once sent one of the bodyguards with orders to bring John's head.
06:11The man went off and beheaded him in prison.
06:15Then he brought the head on a dish and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother.
06:20When John's disciples heard about this, they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.
06:28The Gospel of the Lord.
06:45Blessed are you.
07:00Blessed are you.
07:18Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you.
07:23Fruit of the earth and work of human hands, it will become for us the bread of life.
07:49Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you.
07:56Fruit of the vine and work of human hands, it will become for us our spiritual drink.
08:01Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father.
08:22May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and the glory of his name,
08:27for our good and the good of all his holy church.
08:30Through these offerings which we bring you, O Lord, grant that we may make straight your paths,
08:35as taught by that voice crying in the desert, St. John the Baptist,
08:40who powerfully sealed his teaching by the shedding of his blood.
08:44Through Christ our Lord.
08:46The Lord be with you.
08:48Lift up your hearts.
08:51Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
08:55It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere, to give you thanks.
09:01Lord Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, through Christ our Lord.
09:06In his precursor, St. John the Baptist, we praise your great glory,
09:10for you consecrated him for a singular honor among those born of women.
09:15His birth brought great rejoicing, even in the womb he leapt for joy at the coming of human salvation.
09:22He alone, of all the prophets, pointed out the lamp of redemption.
09:27And to make holy the flowing waters, he baptized the very author of baptism,
09:32and was privileged to bear him supreme witness by the shedding of his blood.
09:37And so, with the powers of heaven, we worship you constantly on earth,
09:41and before your majesty, with that end, we acclaim.
09:44Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of hosts,
09:48heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.
09:52Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
10:01You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.
10:05Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down your spirits upon them like the dewfall,
10:10so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
10:16At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread,
10:21and giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying,
10:26Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you.
10:47In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice,
10:56and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying,
11:00Take this, all of you, and drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood,
11:05the blood of the new and eternal covenant,
11:08which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
11:13Do this in memory of me.
11:15The mystery of faith.
11:44We proclaim your death, O Lord, and profess your resurrection until you come again.
11:50Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection,
11:54we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation,
11:58giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you.
12:04Humbly we pray that, partaking of the body and blood of Christ,
12:08we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
12:11Remember, Lord, your Church, spread throughout the world,
12:14and bring her to the fullness of charity,
12:17together with Francis our Pope and Charles our Bishop, and all the clergy.
12:21Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection,
12:27and all who have died in your mercy.
12:30Welcome them into the light of your face.
12:32Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
12:38with Blessed Joseph, her spouse, with the Blessed Apostles and all the Saints,
12:42who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life,
12:47and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.
12:51Through him, and with him, and in him, O God, Almighty Father,
12:58in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, forever and ever.
13:05Amen.
13:09At the Savior's command, and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say,
13:13Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
13:18Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
13:22Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
13:27as we forgive those who trespass against us.
13:30And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
13:34Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil.
13:37Graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy,
13:41we may be always free from sin, and safe from all distress,
13:45as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
13:50For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever.
13:54Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles,
13:57Peace I leave you, my peace I give you,
13:59look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church,
14:02and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will,
14:06who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.
14:10The peace of the Lord be with you always.
14:13Let us offer each other the sign of peace. Peace be with you.
14:33Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
14:38Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
14:43Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.
15:03Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
15:07Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
15:10Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof,
15:14but only say the word, and my soul shall be healed.
15:20My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament.
15:25I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.
15:29Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.
15:35I embrace you as if you were already there, and unite myself wholly to you.
15:40Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.
15:45Let us pray.
15:48Grant, O Lord, as we celebrate the heavenly birth of St. John the Baptist,
15:53that we may revere for what it signifies the saving sacrament we have received,
15:59and even more, may rejoice at its clear effects in us, through Christ our Lord.
16:05Dear friends, thank you for your prayerful company throughout this day.
16:09Wherever you may be, let's now pray for God's blessings upon you and your family,
16:13and also upon your intentions.
16:15And let's continue to pray for one another.
16:17The Lord be with you.
16:19And let's continue to pray for one another.
16:21The Lord be with you.
16:23May Almighty God bless you, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
16:28Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord.
