00:00lots of baseball tonight. Everybody plays on Fridays. So we always love Fridays around MLB.
00:07Even with some college football tonight, we're still going to find a way to get some action in
00:11here with the baseball. Good win for the Phillies last night, Joe, as I mentioned with the big
00:16Castellanos home run 4-3. They extend that lead in the NL East back out to six. Tonight, our boy
00:22Ranger Danger Suarez is going to go for them. Ronaldo Lopez on the brave side of things.
00:28Phillies minus $1.35. Braves plus $1.15. The nice low $7.50 tonight at the bank, Joe.
00:36Yeah, and again, it was one of those situations where Atlanta got out early, three runs in the
00:43second and third inning, and then the bullpens got involved, and that's when the wheels fell off
00:49there. Give Charlie Morton credit. I like, Renato Lopez has been solid, to say the least, for what
00:56he's brought to the table for this Braves team here. He's also had last couple outings have been
01:02very good. Suarez at home, much better than he's been out on the road. Neither team, the Braves,
01:09don't exactly crush lefties here. So I'm going to avoid the bullpens once again, and I'm going to
01:15take the first five under at four and a half here, because I do think this is more like a playoff
01:23atmosphere style game here, and the Braves backs against the wall. I do think it's going to feel
01:28like that here tonight. I think it's going to be another low scoring game. The total was only eight
01:33this morning, I think, Carver. Yeah, and so it's been creeping down a little bit, Joe. I like the
01:39under two. You're probably going with the safer play, I think, with the first five, going with
01:45the under there as opposed to the whole game, because as we know, anything can always happen
01:49when you get the bullpens involved with any team. Anything can always happen with them.
01:55Boston is in Detroit this weekend against the Tigers. Tanner Houck tonight against Casey Mize,
02:01minus 120 for the Sox on the road, even money for the Tigers, and an eight and a half at Comerica.
02:10Yeah, this is interesting. Tanner Houck is clearly running out of gas,
02:15and you can tell simply because he's not missing nearly as many bats as he did early on in the
02:22season here. But let's face it, he does have a Detroit team here that has a pretty good,
02:30I think, the eighth highest K rate against right-handed pitching this season. So it wouldn't
02:36shock me if Houck has more success in this game here. The Red Sox can't win at Fenway. They can
02:42win on the road. I would lean Boston in this one if I was going to do anything.
02:48Believe it or not, Joe, the Red Sox have lost Houck's last seven starts. The last seven times
02:54he has started, they have lost. And a lot of those he has not pitched well. Six runs last time out
03:00against Arizona. He had another six against Texas on August the third. He's got a bunch of really
03:05bad games. But in terms of them just winning, they haven't won at all with him on the mound lately.
03:10See if they can turn that around tonight in Motown. Second game of the doubleheader in
03:16Cincinnati between the Brewers and the Reds. Tonight, though, you get, you know, usually
03:21sometimes those second games, those doubleheaders, Joe, they call up those, you know, 27 men,
03:26the guys from the minors to pitch. Well, D.L. Hall will go on the Brewers' side. Rhett Louder
03:35will go for the Reds. Minus 120 for Cincinnati. Even money for the Brewers.
03:40The Reds are favored tonight over the Brewers and a nine and a half.
03:46Yeah, Louder is a pretty big pitching prospect there for the Reds. And so is Hall, in fact,
03:53who was hurt earlier this year and now has come off the I.L. He's had a couple of games here
04:01over the last couple of weeks. Both guys can fire it. Hall's the lefty.
04:06Louder is the righty. This is another one where, you know, I hate expecting back to back
04:13wins from a team here. It feels like usually in the second game, I like to root for the split.
04:20And I think that's exactly where we're going here. So if I was doing anything, I'd be looking
04:25at Cincinnati to get the split here. The Cubs are in D.C. at Nationals Park
04:30against the Nats tonight. Jake Irvin goes for Washington. Imanaga for the Cubbies, who are
04:37minus 160, plus a buck 35 for the Nats and an eight and a half. I was just we were just talking
04:44about Imanaga during the break, Joe. He has given up a lot of homers recently. Now, I didn't go
04:49after him tonight just because the Nats really don't have a lot of guys you want to back in
04:53terms of the run market, but he's allowed eight homers in his last five starts. It's only over
04:58a 30-inning span. That's not good numbers, eight homers in 30 innings. So Imanaga has been giving
05:02up some long balls. He has. He's also been extremely good on the road this year. Six and one,
05:082.94 ERA on the road for him this year. The guy he's facing, Irving, has been just a hot mess
05:16this month in August. 1,700 runs, 28 innings. He's two and seven at home. The Cubs have been
05:22playing great, seven and three over the last 10 games. They're also crushing the ball right now,
05:28which is interesting. Imanaga is tough. I mean, it's tough to back this Nats lineup thinking
05:33they're going to get to Imanaga. I don't think they will. I'm probably looking on the Cubs'
05:38bats to stay hot. So I'm going to look at the Cubs' team total to go up and over in this matchup.
05:46The Padres take the long trip to Tampa. Actually, they were just in St. Louis,
05:50so they continue a long trip. Now to the East Coast, where they will have Martin Perez
05:56going tonight against Taj Bradley. Raise your favorite tonight, Joe. Minus 125,
06:00plus 105 for the Friars, and a seven and a half low total at the drop.
06:06Yeah, that's because they're looking at the pitching matchup and thinking there's an advantage
06:10there, but there's not. Taj Bradley has been an absolute mess over the last month here. He is
06:16not shutting anybody down at all here, and the Padres coming off of that loss there to the
06:24Cardinals, splitting another series there. They are usually really, really good this year,
06:29bouncing back from a loss the following game, especially on the road in Tampa. I mean,
06:37at home here. So I like the Padres to get it done early. Far too good a price here for such a good
06:46hitting team to take advantage of a pitcher who's missing his spots. I think Bradley will give up
06:53some runs, and I think they'll have the lead after five innings. I like it, Joe. I'm with you on the
06:59Friars tonight, taking care of business at the drop. The Cardinals are in the Bronx against the
07:04Yankees this weekend. Marcus Stroman against Eric Fetty to kick things off. Minus 185 for the Yanks,
07:13plus 155 for St. Louis, and an 8.5. A lot of guys on the Cardinals, Joe, of course,
07:19know Stroman very well from his days with the Cubbies. Yeah, they do, and Fetty with the White
07:26Sox, the Yankees know that, knows him. So this just feels like we're gonna get runs. I don't
07:34want to, I don't think we should overthink it. We should just assume this is not going to be a 2-1
07:40game, but much closer to a 9-10 run game. So it's up and over for me in this one.
07:47This next one's up and over for me, Joe. That is the Pirates in Cleveland against the Guardians
07:53with Bailey Falter and Ben Lively going tonight. Minus 145 for Cleveland, plus 120 for the Buccos,
08:00and an 8.5, which I think is kind of light. Lively gives up tons of home runs. Falter hasn't been
08:05great either on the Pittsburgh side of things. I'm gonna go after the 8.5, Joe, to the upside.
08:11I don't hate that either, and I also think that the Guardians will have a lead in the first five.
08:18I think they're gonna roll it. They avoided getting swept, which was nice, and I think
08:24they've got to keep that rolling into this one here and get some runs early and play from in
08:30front and let that bullpen do its thing. Oakland into Arlington against the Rangers. J.P. Sears and
08:37Roebuck go for the A's. John Gray on the Rangers side of things, who are minus 135, plus a buck 15
08:45for Oakland on the road, and an 8.5. What do you like here, Joe? Yeah, there's no way I'm backing
08:53John Gray, who's a unmitigated disaster, and Sears has been — I mean, how could we not take
09:00him at plus money? What are we doing here? I mean, it's not even close. I think Oakland has won
09:0722 of its last 36 Sears, like, last four starts under a two ERA. I mean, granted, he got
09:15beat up by the Brewers, but that's nothing — his last time out, but that's nothing to be ashamed about.
09:20I like the Oakland team at about a big plus price here. I like Oakland as well. Another
09:27good pitching matchup in Houston for the Royals and the Astros tonight. Seth Lugo and Frambo
09:32Valdez get it going. Minus 175 for the Astros, plus a buck 45 for the Royals, and of course,
09:40the 7.5 with two good arms. Yeah, and this has been nothing but Houston money. This team,
09:47this was originally, like, minus 130, and it's gotten jacked all throughout the day as the money
09:53continues to pour in, and I think a lot of that has to do with Seth Lugo running out of gas
09:59big time here. I mean, his last four starts, he's got almost an eight ERA. He is getting
10:05beat up pretty big, so he was never a real power pitcher anyway, so if he's missing the off-speed
10:13pitches and he's keeping it over the plate, he's getting crushed, and that's what's been
10:17happening here. So to me, I think Houston's the right side, but I would also lay the run
10:24and a half with Houston in this spot. The Mets heading back east, but they're going to stop in
10:31Chicago first, Joe, where they'll see the White Sox over the weekend. Tyler Miguel back for the
10:36Mets, hasn't pitched since the end of July. Jonathan Cannon, who's been a gas can for the
10:40White Sox, is going tonight. Minus 225 for the Mets, plus $1.85 for Chicago, and an eight and a
10:49half, which I know has gone down a little bit, Joe, but I just feel like that is light. We got
10:54a couple guys on the mound who can give up some runs. Yeah, no, we got a, yes, absolutely, going
11:00to pitch forever. Cannon's a disaster. What, 31-104, they're 18-51 at home. The White Sox
11:08aren't even trying here. Having said that, I do think they probably end up getting one win
11:14in this series, but to me, I think this is, I'm with you on the over. I also don't mind the Mets
11:21team total, which is five and a half. I wouldn't mind playing that either, or the
11:28run line for the Mets. I expect the Mets to come out firing in this first game.
11:34Blue Jays in Minnesota against the Twins. Kevin Gossman goes tonight against Pablo Lopez.
11:40Lopez gives up a lot of homers, as we know. Gossman does too, really. Minus 165 for many,
11:45plus $1.40 for the Jays, and a seven and a half.
11:50They're expecting a pitcher's duel. I am not. I'm kind of with you here. I do think, listen,
11:56Lopez has been very vulnerable. Gossman, like you said, has been better as of late over the last
12:02month, but not something I trust here. To me, I think this is, I'll go one even better. I'm going
12:09to go the first five over, because I think both of these guys have gotten too early in this game,
12:15and the bullpens will be involved late. This will be one of those games that Leecey likes
12:20the alt-overs, you know. Nine and a half, ten and a half, eleven and a half, up, up, up, and away.
12:26I'll squeeze one more in, Joe. Baltimore, like we said, got swept in L.A. by the Dodgers,
12:31but they get to go to Colorado this weekend and see the Rockies. Albert Suarez against my favorite
12:37gas can, Austin Gomber, for the Colorado Rockies. Minus 135 for the O's, plus 115 for the Rockies,
12:44and an 11 and a half. Not enough. Give me the over. I don't care. Give me the over. Give me
12:51the team total over for Baltimore. Expect some runs here. Six and a half at plus money for the
12:57Orioles here tonight. Seattle and the Angels in Anaheim tonight. George Kirby's dreamland
13:03against the great Samuel Addergary tonight. The Angels have pulled some good ones out recently.
13:10So Samuel, young Samuel, the next arm that gets thrown to the Wolves in Anaheim for the Angels,
13:15who are minus, who are plus 160. The Mariners are minus 190, and an eight and a half.
13:21Yeah, I think, to me, this would all be about fading the rookie, right, making his debut.
13:26And, by the way, I look at his double-A starts here. He's got over a 5 ERA, a 1.44 whip. It
13:35wasn't like he was fooling anybody in double-A. Even Seattle should be able to put some runs on
13:42the board here against that one. I wouldn't mind. I think Kirby will have no problem limiting the
13:48Angels. I think the run line is in play for Seattle tonight.
13:53It certainly is. The biggest series of the weekend, a four-game series. These two are
13:58actually going to play into Monday on Labor Day as well. The Dodgers and the Diamondbacks. The
14:03Diamondbacks, of course, within four games with how scorching hot they have been over the last
14:08couple of months. They will have Zach Gallin, their best pitcher, going tonight against L.A.
14:13At home, Clayton Kershaw goes for the Dodgers, who are minus 135. You're getting the Snakes at
14:18plus-a-buck 15 at home, and an eight and a half. Boy, oh boy, it's tough to take an under in this
14:28spot here with these two teams. But doesn't this feel like a playoff atmosphere kind of situation?
14:35They say Freeman is listed as probable to return tonight. He has not been in that lineup the last
14:42couple days, but it didn't matter, right? They were still able to handle business against the
14:46Orioles. Zach Gallin has had some issues against the Dodgers in the past, but I think this is a
14:53playoff series here, Carver, to me. And I think both of these guys here with Kershaw and Gallin,
15:01they'll show up in the big moments. And I think the under is the way to look in this one.
15:05It's a monster series, Joe, obviously. You're talking about you're turning the calendar to
15:09September this weekend. You have a four-game series in your building. If you think you can
15:15actually get them and win this division, you got to take three out of four and leave two back,
15:21right? I mean, I think that's what you're thinking. I think anything else, you know,
15:26you leave with it chopped and it's still four, or you lose three out of four and it ends up going
15:31to six. I think that then you say goodbye and you focus on the wild card. But they do have an
15:36opportunity if they can make it happen here this weekend. And finally, the Marlins are in San
15:41Francisco. Adam Oller against Blake Snell, who, as you know, Joe, has been outstanding his last
15:48few starts out. Minus 265 for the Giants. That's heavy. Plus 215 for the Fish and a seven and a
15:57half. Yeah, the Marlins are nine and 37 versus lefties this year. I'll repeat, nine and 37
16:08against lefties. And you just said you got one of the best lefties the game has seen this year.
16:13And Blake Snell on the mound. To me, this is all about, I think, aren't they, who are they rolling
16:20out here? They're rolling out some 50 year old too, I think the Marlins to pitch here tonight.
16:27So to me, this is... Adam Oller. Adam Oller. Oller, yes. Oller, yes. That's great. Straight
16:32from Independent League because they have nobody else who wants to throw. Yeah, this is run line
16:39for me. I expect... And by the way, the Giants have done a great... They've been selling out
16:44at home all season long. The fans are excited every time Blake Snell pitches. Place is rocking.
16:50Run line for me. I'll lay it with the Giants. There you go. Before we finish off the baseball
16:56here quickly, Joe, are the Taters for tonight because we love long balls and Fridays have been
17:01very good to us. I'm going to start. I told you, I go after that lively on Cleveland all the time.
17:05I'll do it with Brian Reynolds tonight, plus 450. He's seen him before, has a couple hits against
17:10them. And Reynolds has a few homers this week. We'll go to him. Next, we will go out to the
17:14Bronx. Not taking a Yankee actually, Joe. Taking Paul Goldschmidt against Marcus Stroman tonight.
17:22Why? 11 for 27. That's 407. And three homers in his career. I know a lot of it was a while ago
17:29when he was in Chicago, but he has seen him before and he's seen him well. And I'm getting
17:32six to one tonight, so I will go with Goldie. Next, Royce Lewis for the Twins against Kevin
17:38Gossman. How about this one, Joe? Four for four with two homers in his career off of Gossman.
17:44Royce Lewis at plus 390. Hopefully, we can add to that total tonight. We mentioned that the Mets
17:50and the White Sox could be a good gas can game in terms of runs. Well, why don't we get the
17:54Polar Bear involved early and often? We will go Pete Alonso at plus 375 in Chicago. Marcus Simeon
18:02against J.P. Sears and Roebuck. Six for 19, two home runs, and a nice price at plus 475 for him.
18:10And there are so many guys on the Orioles we could take, Joe. So many guys in Coors Field
18:16against Austin Gomber. But there's one guy that hits lefties when he gets his powers from the
18:22right side. He doesn't get to hit there often, and that's Adley Rushman, and he's six to one.
18:26The other Oriole guys are all in the twos, plus 250 Santander, plus 315 for Gunner. Six for Rushman,
18:35who loves facing lefties, especially bad ones like Austin Gomber. Let's get it tonight, Joe. Some big
18:41home run six back for us. Let's go. Let's go. We got nothing but taters all night long with some
18:48games that are probably, they're going to cash those home run props early rather than late here.
18:55And I noticed it was Otani. I like Otani's over his base and a half too here tonight,
19:01because something tells me he's going to be running around the bases at least once.
