The crowds carts and candybags are back with thousands flocking to Wayville today for the opening day of the Royal Adelaide Show. In its 185th year showgoers can expect all their favourite attractions with organisers promising this year's event is bigger than ever.

00:00When you think about the Royal Adelaide Show, a few key things come to mind.
00:07I think the rides and also the shopping centre.
00:11Definitely, definitely a dagger dog, yeah.
00:13Show bags, competitions and carnival rides, the show is back with all its traditions.
00:18And despite the current cost of living pressures, it's expected to attract hundreds of thousands of people.
00:25We say about one in every three South Australians come to the show,
00:28which makes it the largest show in Australia on a per capita basis.
00:31Today's unfavourable weather wasn't enough to deter showgoers with more rain forecast over the next week.
00:38We come rain, hail or shine.
00:40And if it's raining, that's when we go inside and look at the halls,
00:44otherwise we'll be out around looking at everything else.
00:46In the worst case scenario, we'll have to look at things like the fireworks,
00:50but that's a very rare occurrence that we have to do anything like that.
00:53We're confident that we're going to help put on a great show regardless of the weather.
00:57The show has always brought the best of the country here to the city
01:01and organisers hope that being able to get up close with these little guys
01:05will help inspire the next generation of farmers.
01:08Obviously a few kids in the city that probably don't see what we see on most days,
01:13so it's definitely a really good thing to really promote it
01:17and it's obviously another career option for anyone interested later on in life.
01:22And the farmers might have recruited a few young ones already.
01:26Just petting the animals and seeing them because they're really cute.
01:29The fun and excitement at the showgrounds will continue right up to next Sunday.
