00:00Some ranked teams in action on both Thursday and Friday night
00:06to fully kick off week number one of this college football
00:10season and what is in store week number two. Oklahoma
00:14dismantling Temple in Norman Jackson Arnold making his first
00:18start for the Sooners in his home stadium. Temple's really
00:22bad. Sorry to our executive producer and proud Temple alum
00:26Chris Kosky, but oh boy, it's going to be tough for the Owls
00:30OU covering as a 42 and a half point home favorite. Kansas
00:34ranked in the preseason poll for the first time since 09
00:38easily dispatching Lindenwood 48 to three NC State struggled
00:44against Western Carolina. They were trailing early in the
00:48fourth quarter before the Wolfpack storm back to win by
00:51seventeen but came nowhere close to covering as a 32 and a
00:54half point favorite. So we start with you as we were
00:58talking throughout the week on football full circle. You said
01:00I love Western Carolina tonight covering 32 and a half. How
01:04come and what did you see? Well, we talked about it on the
01:06air. The fact that Grayson McCall was a little bit
01:09inconsistent last year at Coastal Carolina Carolina. He
01:12dealt with injuries missed the back end of the season. I
01:15thought that that could be a cause of concern going into a
01:18new offense with Dave Doran. They were a methodical offense
01:21last year. They had two quarterbacks Kevin MJ Morris
01:25and last year with Brennan Armstrong that transferred in
01:28from Virginia as well. Armstrong took a while to get
01:30used to the system and I think that was a cause of concern
01:34laying a 32 and a half point number. So it opened at 32 and
01:37a half before ticket got down to 31 and a half. They brought
01:40in Jordan Waters from Duke. They wanted to run the football
01:43consistently. I just didn't see it. You know North Carolina
01:47State's a very good team. I don't think they're an elite
01:49team and I think the offensive defensive lines struggled
01:52against a more physical FCS front. I mean, if you watch
01:55that game, even though NC State won, they won it in the
01:59last 8 minutes of the matchup. I mean, Western Carolina had a
02:0221 to 17 lead heading into the fourth quarter. They play like
02:06that against Tennessee Kev. They're going to get boat
02:08raced. It was it was terrible, but they are a bad look ahead
02:13team. So in some capacity for Tennessee, it sounds silly, but
02:18it's not like ah see perfect like we're it's a little more
02:21concern. It's like ah they're that focused on us that
02:24Western Carolina gave them a game. If these teams play 100
02:27times 99 NC State wins. I don't know how many are within this
02:31range, but good for the catamounts to cover Cole
02:34Gonzalez is going to be a real threat at the FCS level. I'll
02:37give him that. I thought the Friday performance from
02:40Oklahoma was interesting. Yeah, we know Temple's bad. We know
02:45Oklahoma's a big favorite. I don't know what I was looking
02:48for from Jackson Arnold. I don't think it was 141 yards. I
02:52know you don't need more than that, but it's just we've talked
02:56you know strength of schedule is a big talking point this time
02:59of year and OU is one of the main ones with the schedule
03:03that they landed on in the SEC versus what Texas landed on in
03:07the SEC. Obviously the two teams don't have the same
03:09expectations, but for Oklahoma, I just I don't know. I don't
03:14know 151 to three. It didn't it didn't inspire a world of
03:17confidence that maybe I'm not giving them enough credit. The
03:20Sooners at home this week against Houston now a
03:23non-conference matchup against the Cougs who lost big
03:27yesterday to start their season and the debut of Willie Fritz,
03:30the former Tulane head coach to UNLV. They got roasted by the
03:35Rebs of Las Vegas, Oklahoma for touchdown favorite laying 27
03:40and a half a bunch of the ranked teams that we saw on
03:43Thursday and Friday compelling week two games that weren't so
03:46much in week number one. We mentioned Oklahoma. It's our
03:50second of two top twenty-five tilts next week. It's Tennessee
03:54and NC State game in Charlotte at Bank of America Stadium where
03:58the Panthers play so technically neutral site, but
04:01not all that far away from Raleigh where NC State is the
04:05Vols open up as an early about touchdown favorite laying six
04:08and a half. You were optimistic about Tennessee's offensive
04:11output. Put it on display against Chattanooga Nico.
04:15Gets another start here against the pack. What do you
04:18expect? I think it's a it's a really really important game
04:21because I have Tennessee getting one of those at large
04:23response. I think it is going to be interesting next week
04:27because we all have our overreactions of trying to fade
04:30all these underwhelming ACC teams. That's I know we've kind
04:34of made the point, but just forget Miami for a second. NC
04:38State was embarrassing. Clemson was embarrassing. Florida
04:42State was embarrassing and you should at some point mention
04:46how good the Vanderbilt pick was, but also how embarrassing
04:49that was for Vatech. Yeah, Vatech right. 80% of the
04:53productivity coming back that defense a secondary only gave
04:56up a buck 68 in the back end. They got abused by and
05:01Vanderbilt. So we'll say again not going to be easy in
05:04Charlotte because that's a difficult place to play.
