00:00:00Previously, on Hunted, Operation Kitchen Sink led to the capture of notorious fugitives.
00:00:13Ben and Luke, after two weeks of hunting, five fugitive pairs,
00:00:30and over half of the million dollar heist have been retrieved.
00:00:34Did we just drive past hunters? Get out of here.
00:00:37They've got someone.
00:00:38With eight fugitives still on the run,
00:00:41Dear Ned, please keep us safe.
00:00:44the hunters took aim at Empty Nester's Andy and Deb.
00:00:48That's Instagram and Facebook post, it has made our game so much harder.
00:00:54But the fugitives launched a counter attack.
00:00:57Post ad.
00:00:59Hello.
00:01:00Someone set a Gumtree account up with the number from the tip line.
00:01:04It's actually making me quite angry.
00:01:07And the race is on to track down rally team Tony and Kaylee.
00:01:13HQ this is Delta, we're at the vantage point.
00:01:15Can they outmanoeuvre the hunters?
00:01:17Got the money?
00:01:18Got the money.
00:01:19Or will they be hunted down?
00:01:28Across Lake Eildon, groundhunter teams Alpha and Delta
00:01:34are searching for a houseboat they believe could be harbouring fugitives Kaylee and Tony.
00:01:41Indigo, indigo, indigo.
00:01:44Mate, there are so many boats out there.
00:01:47And with multiple drones in operation.
00:01:53HQ, that's Sparrow 1 at 100 metres.
00:01:56We now have eyes on the marina.
00:01:58Yeah, roger that.
00:01:59That is a good copy.
00:02:02We have Eagle 1 launching now to join the fight.
00:02:08Team Alpha make a positive ID of the vessel.
00:02:13Ravs, Ravs, Ravs.
00:02:14Yeah.
00:02:15I've got eyes on a boat that's matching the description of what we've been sent.
00:02:20We now have eyes on the vessel.
00:02:24It's game over.
00:02:26Bloody awesome.
00:02:27Oh, here we go.
00:02:30The fugitives have no idea the groundhunters are just a kilometre away.
00:02:37Alright.
00:02:38Good luck.
00:02:40Yes, thank you so much for all of your help and assistance.
00:02:43Good luck, you're very welcome.
00:02:44Really cool.
00:02:45You're very welcome.
00:02:46Rally car driver Tony and his co-pilot Kayleigh have put on disguises
00:02:51and are planning to head to shore to meet up with a prearranged contact.
00:02:56There's no way I'm eating these sour weird lollies you're taking.
00:03:02Oh, that's my drink bottle.
00:03:03You've definitely got the water bottle.
00:03:08Delta, this is Alpha.
00:03:09Alpha, this is Delta.
00:03:11Delta, for your awareness, I'll send you through some imagery now
00:03:13of where that boat is in relation to your location.
00:03:17Break.
00:03:18Let's go, Em, come on.
00:03:19Boys have got eyes on.
00:03:20Let's get there.
00:03:26Yeah, HQ, Alpha.
00:03:27We've got eyes on that boat still.
00:03:29Confirm we have movement.
00:03:31On the rear of that boat, potentially two individuals.
00:03:33Break.
00:03:34Yeah, roger.
00:03:35The noise may carry over the water,
00:03:37so we'll bring the drones down now in case you spook them.
00:03:41That is a good copy.
00:03:48Good play.
00:03:51All right.
00:03:53Feeling good?
00:03:54Yep.
00:03:57I'll put this in my bag.
00:03:58You happy, or do you want to put it in your bag?
00:04:00Happy for you to put it in your bag.
00:04:02Let me just run down and check the bedroom
00:04:03and make sure that everything's there.
00:04:08We've got a little bit of stuff here.
00:04:11All right.
00:04:13How are you looking, team, for boat ops?
00:04:15Yeah, Chief, we've secured a hunter vessel.
00:04:17We're just a couple of minutes out from the ramp.
00:04:19Yeah, Delta, once you're in the water,
00:04:21I need you to move north into Eldon Boat Club area.
00:04:26It's your time to shine, Delta.
00:04:28We're going to do it.
00:04:29We are throwing every ground hunter asset we have
00:04:32at fugitives Kaylee and Tony.
00:04:34We've got ground hunter teams on their sign.
00:04:37We've got a houseboat for maritime operations.
00:04:41That's the first time that's ever been done.
00:04:44HQ, Delta, we're on the water.
00:04:47There is nothing that we will not do to capture the fugitives.
00:04:52The ground hunters have secured a tender
00:04:54that will transport them directly to the houseboat.
00:04:59You got your phone ready?
00:05:01Delta, you underway now.
00:05:03Moving into target location, over.
00:05:06You've got about 60 seconds out if you want to come up on FaceTime.
00:05:10Who are you taking, Chief?
00:05:12I will take Emma.
00:05:14Coming up now, M.
00:05:16Simph will be on Kel.
00:05:20Hey, team, how are we?
00:05:22Hello, hello.
00:05:23Water ops, love it.
00:05:25Yes.
00:05:27We're just coming up to the boat.
00:05:29It's pretty noisy here.
00:05:30That's all right.
00:05:31Noise is good.
00:05:33Make them walk the plank.
00:05:35What we're going to plan to do
00:05:36is I'm going to try and jump onto the back of the boat
00:05:38and Kel will go to the front
00:05:40and then we'll try and get the capture that way.
00:05:42Let's go, Delta.
00:05:43Roger.
00:05:44Good hunting, Delta.
00:05:46We have eyes on the vessel.
00:05:48Eyes on the vessel.
00:05:49Go, Delta.
00:05:51Come on.
00:05:53You've got this, team.
00:05:55Ivonne can confirm indigo.
00:06:00Yes.
00:06:01It's the right boat.
00:06:02Come on.
00:06:03It's the right boat.
00:06:04Come on.
00:06:07You're in M.
00:06:08You're in M.
00:06:09Go.
00:06:10Go, go, go, go.
00:06:13Hello, hello.
00:06:14Yeah.
00:06:16Can we ask you if you've seen any fugitives around?
00:06:21No?
00:06:22No.
00:06:23She's followed it.
00:06:24They're in there.
00:06:25You don't mind if I have a quick look around?
00:06:27No?
00:06:28They'll be stowed away somewhere.
00:06:30We've covered every door.
00:06:34There's no one else at all on this boat?
00:06:36Just you?
00:06:41M, I'm holding the rear.
00:06:52Let me know if there's any footprints in the soft sand
00:06:54at the front, over.
00:06:57Chief, that's a negative.
00:06:59Just push back a little bit further.
00:07:02Chief, just based on, there's no footprints in the sand to exit,
00:07:05so they haven't gone bush.
00:07:07They've been picked up potentially by another vessel,
00:07:09and we've missed them by minutes.
00:07:12So which vessel?
00:07:13Hey, M, did you see any other boats on your transit
00:07:16up to the target vessel, over?
00:07:18There was a boat.
00:07:20It was heading this direction,
00:07:22but it was coming from the other way.
00:07:25Just thinking, Sue's there.
00:07:27Sue's vehicle is not there.
00:07:28What if Hubby has Sue's vehicle?
00:07:32Because if Sue's here, where's Hubby?
00:07:40You're good.
00:07:41Almost perfect.
00:07:42A little bit backwards.
00:07:44Unbeknownst to the hunters,
00:07:46the fugitives have made it to shore via a little-known pontoon.
00:07:51No worries, there's the car.
00:07:52There's the car there?
00:07:53Yep.
00:07:54Having covertly parked their land cruiser,
00:07:57Sue's husband, Neil,
00:07:59will now drive the fugitives 100 kilometres west
00:08:03to rendezvous with their next rally contact.
00:08:06Pretty cool spot here.
00:08:11OK.
00:08:12Get out of here.
00:08:13That's right.
00:08:14Cool.
00:08:15That's a perfect parking spot.
00:08:18Like, they're never going to find this spot.
00:08:20No.
00:08:24It's a bit sad to be leaving the luxury of the houseboat
00:08:27and all its...
00:08:28And its beautiful occupants.
00:08:29Exactly.
00:08:30But, um...
00:08:31Hopefully the hunters don't come knocking.
00:08:35And Scarepaw too.
00:08:36Yeah.
00:08:38Hey, Sue.
00:08:39Hey.
00:08:40We're obviously looking for the fugitives, Kayleigh and Tony.
00:08:43When did you last see them?
00:08:45About a week ago.
00:08:46A week ago?
00:08:48I'm not sure I really believe that, Sue.
00:08:50Sorry.
00:08:51Where's your car?
00:08:53In the bike lot.
00:08:54Yep.
00:08:55What type of car?
00:08:56Land cruiser.
00:08:57Land cruiser?
00:08:58And where's your husband, Neil?
00:09:01At work.
00:09:02Yep.
00:09:03You sure?
00:09:05He better be.
00:09:08All right.
00:09:09I'm not going to dance around too much longer.
00:09:11Sue, I'll leave you in the lovely hands of these two.
00:09:13Lovely to meet you.
00:09:14But we'll have them both in the bag very soon.
00:09:17Yep.
00:09:18Sue Stone-Staunch.
00:09:19Hey, Sam.
00:09:20Yep.
00:09:21We've got the details on the vehicle owned by Sue.
00:09:23It's a Sahara 2018 land cruiser.
00:09:26Based on Sue's interrogation with us,
00:09:28Sue said her vehicle's at the marina.
00:09:30So we're just going to get Alpha to check the marina.
00:09:33HQ, Alpha, that's us.
00:09:3511 minutes out from Eildon Boat Club, over.
00:09:38That's the boat club there?
00:09:39Sudden ramps everywhere.
00:09:41Yeah.
00:09:42So every public boat ramp in Victoria has live webcams.
00:09:46So if we can get some details of the potentials,
00:09:49then we can see if they're still there.
00:09:51It takes hourly footage,
00:09:52but you can see the vehicles that are coming and going.
00:09:55This is the last 24 hours.
00:09:58Despite Sue claiming her car was at the boat club,
00:10:02a review of live webcams and Team Alpha on the ground
00:10:06reveals otherwise.
00:10:08Raising further suspicions, it's the getaway vehicle.
00:10:12Oh, mate.
00:10:13These guys are giving us a run around.
00:10:16If it's gone, that's the one.
00:10:18Let's get telematics, please, and go.
00:10:20Got historical and current ANPR on the land cruiser,
00:10:23checking to see if it's got telematics.
00:10:25His phone's on location ping as well.
00:10:27As soon as we get it ping, go all in on Neil.
00:10:29Where will Neil be taking them if Carly and Tony are with Neil?
00:10:34Oh, Neil, did you turn your phone off?
00:10:36Yes, I did.
00:10:37You're so fabulous. Thank you.
00:10:40Leaving the ground hunters in their wake on Lake Eildon,
00:10:43the fugitives are driving to the rural town of Seymour
00:10:47after making a plan to meet up with associate Paul.
00:10:51Hey, Paul, it's Tony.
00:10:53Is there any chance that you could maybe grab one of our cars and come down?
00:10:57Yeah, I know it's a long way to drive from New South Wales, but...
00:11:01Yeah, OK.
00:11:03Yes.
00:11:06So what time was your mate getting into town?
00:11:08Well, he's leaving Sydney this morning,
00:11:10so I think about four o'clock-ish.
00:11:14But the fugitives are running ahead of schedule to meet him.
00:11:19What do you reckon, we find a river or something
00:11:21where we can go and hide for a couple of hours?
00:11:23Yeah, that'd be good. Just off the main drag.
00:11:25Yeah, just somewhere we can kick some stones.
00:11:27Kill some time in the middle of nowhere.
00:11:29Yes, rather than killing it in the middle of town.
00:11:33Hey, Sim, there are no telematics on that Land Cruiser.
00:11:38What? I think otherwise.
00:11:40With no telematics to track the Land Cruiser
00:11:43and Neil's phone switched off,
00:11:45the hunters still have one more trick up their sleeves.
00:11:49Sue's Land Cruiser. Doesn't have telematics, chief, so...
00:11:53OK.
00:11:54We're going to have to find out what's going on.
00:11:58Sue's Land Cruiser. Doesn't have telematics, chief, so...
00:12:01We're just doing ANPRs.
00:12:03Yeah, all the way? Yep.
00:12:11Desi, I'm just sending you locations for our ANPRs we want to drop,
00:12:15and we've got statewide ANPR as well.
00:12:17OK.
00:12:18ANPR is Automatic Number Plate Recognition
00:12:20for any vehicle that passes through a camera set-up
00:12:23that's on the major freeways or a road
00:12:25that collects the data for number plates.
00:12:27And there's also a mobile ANPR.
00:12:29In real life,
00:12:30highway patrol cars have the ability to collect number plate data.
00:12:33In Hunted, we can deploy a small number of mobile ANPR units.
00:12:38So it is a shot in the dark, but if we get a hit,
00:12:41it can give us a direction of travel
00:12:43and give us one step closer to the fugitives.
00:12:45Depends on whether they're going to continue there
00:12:47or they're going to come this way.
00:12:49I think we track them into Seymour, mate.
00:12:51Into Seymour? OK. Yep.
00:12:52Targeting the nearby major population centre of Seymour,
00:12:57as well as the fixed ANPR cameras north and south,
00:13:02the Hunters are strategically setting up mobile ANPR units
00:13:07so it could be only a matter of time
00:13:10before the fugitives' location is revealed to the Hunters.
00:13:23There might be a camera.
00:13:25Don't get caught on cameras.
00:13:38Don't get caught on cameras.
00:13:40Never know, there might be a black car parked out the front too.
00:13:42That's right.
00:13:43As Tony and Kayleigh travel west with their driver, Neil,
00:13:47the Hunters have their getaway car's number plate on ANPR monitoring.
00:13:58Hey, Sam.
00:13:59We've got ANPR of the vehicle registered to Sue.
00:14:03And with a mobile ANPR unit strategically deployed to the area,
00:14:08they now have a location and direction of travel.
00:14:12The vehicle is on Goulburn Valley Highway,
00:14:14Homewood, travelling north-west.
00:14:16I'm going to send the details through right now.
00:14:18Lovely work, Jane. Let's get across that, guys.
00:14:20That's Goulburn Valley Highway near King Parrot Creek Road.
00:14:24HQ to Alpha and Delta, we have ANPR information.
00:14:29Vehicle's white Sahara Land Cruiser tracking towards Seymour.
00:14:33Alpha, copy all. White Land Cruiser, Sahara.
00:14:38Let's go, Kel. We've got our cap-tches on.
00:14:41Got our cap-tches on.
00:14:44That is so daggy. I love it, love it.
00:14:46It will be hit and miss, though.
00:14:48It is hit and miss.
00:14:49We don't know who's in that car, but at the moment, we've got nothing.
00:14:54At this stage of the hunt,
00:14:55we need to act on every piece of information that pops up.
00:14:58This may be our only chance for Kayleigh and Tony.
00:15:01Pressure to extractions, it's real, it's right there.
00:15:03We know it, we can feel it and we can sense it.
00:15:06If it is our only chance, we cannot miss.
00:15:09So our guys are over here.
00:15:11They can either make a decision to come up to this way.
00:15:14I think we track him into Seymour, mate.
00:15:16Into Seymour? OK, yep.
00:15:21Running ahead of schedule,
00:15:23Tony and Kayleigh pull off the highway
00:15:26to kill time before the planned rendezvous in Seymour
00:15:30with their next contact.
00:15:33Look at that, picnic area.
00:15:35300 metres on the right.
00:15:37Cool.
00:15:38As long as he doesn't have a camera on him, we're good.
00:15:40We can just go and pull up here.
00:15:45That's cool.
00:15:46We can just pull up in the shade and...
00:15:48Yeah, good spot.
00:15:49There's not a lot going on here.
00:15:52Is there a CCTV?
00:15:54And nope.
00:15:55Nope.
00:15:56Doesn't look like it.
00:15:59And exit.
00:16:01Stage left.
00:16:03I'll let you check out and see if there's any cameras
00:16:05before we go over there.
00:16:06There's no cameras there?
00:16:09No, nothing around here.
00:16:11Awesome.
00:16:15If you stay on that Goulburn Valley Highway,
00:16:18the next ANPR hit you should hit
00:16:21is past that location near Seymour.
00:16:24We should have then had a hit ANPR of Seymour.
00:16:27We did not get that, so it tells me that they've turned off.
00:16:31With no ANPR triggers further west,
00:16:35the two groundhunter units have over 40km of surrounding roads
00:16:40to search, with Delta unknowingly approaching
00:16:44the crucial turn-off to the fugitives.
00:16:52White Sahara, then, Chris.
00:16:54White Sahara, then.
00:16:57So this area, we have the rail trail.
00:17:00Yeah.
00:17:01So maybe...
00:17:03Got a rally car up there?
00:17:05Either that or they might even have some bushies.
00:17:07Yeah.
00:17:08I wonder if there's any camping along the rail trail.
00:17:12I'd imagine there would be.
00:17:22Yeah, I'm not going.
00:17:24I'll hold it.
00:17:26Well, I just can't see why you wouldn't stay on the B foot...
00:17:29If you were going to see...
00:17:31If you were going to go north.
00:17:32I do like your theory, though, about them being in Neil's land cruiser,
00:17:37though, and then just, you know, freewheeling where they need to.
00:17:41That's right.
00:17:42I mean, and if they don't think that they're being hunted,
00:17:45they could feel quite safe, though.
00:17:47They would be loving life at the moment, Chief.
00:17:50Have no idea that we are so close.
00:17:56Time's not going real fast, is it?
00:17:59Three o'clock.
00:18:00Is it?
00:18:01School's out.
00:18:04Are we there yet?
00:18:13HQ, we're turning off Goulburn Valley Highway towards Tullaroop.
00:18:20OK, I'll leave that transit to you.
00:18:24There is, like, a pullover point there.
00:18:28What's that?
00:18:32There's a couple of little areas.
00:18:35It's like a toilet.
00:18:37Mm.
00:18:38HQ, Delta.
00:18:40I can see up ahead here a white vehicle, and I can see a person on foot.
00:18:45Right, get ready for a foot chase, team, so...
00:18:48What?
00:18:49I'll just bring up FaceTime.
00:18:53How about some of Susie's bullets?
00:18:58Mm, they're not bad.
00:19:00Here come the hunters.
00:19:03Shit, they're in.
00:19:05Kayleigh's driving!
00:19:09Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop!
00:19:14It's over, the run is over!
00:19:15We've got Tony! We've got Tony!
00:19:17Yes!
00:19:18HQ, I've got Tony. Kayleigh's gone bush.
00:19:21Let's get Kayleigh, where is she?
00:19:26Kayleigh!
00:19:28Kayleigh!
00:19:31Oh!
00:19:33Oh!
00:19:36Go, go, go!
00:19:40Keep pushing!
00:19:42Come on, Cal, come on!
00:19:43It's dense bushland. She's got a head start.
00:19:46Good on her.
00:19:47Here we go.
00:19:50Go, go, go, go, go!
00:19:53Kayleigh, stop!
00:19:55Oh, come on!
00:19:58Oh, she's gone down!
00:20:01Stop, Kayleigh!
00:20:03Stop!
00:20:04Kayleigh, your time on the run is over.
00:20:06You've been hunted down.
00:20:07Run out!
00:20:14Well done, Kayleigh!
00:20:15Great job, great job.
00:20:17Awesome stuff.
00:20:19That's what it's about.
00:20:20That's what it's about.
00:20:26You like me?
00:20:27Yeah.
00:20:30Half-face landed on the ground.
00:20:32On your jigging.
00:20:33She's a good egg.
00:20:34I was fast.
00:20:36I had my money on you.
00:20:38Fugitives Tony and Kayleigh, how are you guys?
00:20:41We're not as good as we were five minutes ago.
00:20:45Did you have any idea we were on your trail?
00:20:47None at all.
00:20:49We've deployed everything after you two.
00:20:52You guys have done well.
00:20:53It was just a matter of time and I'm sorry to say,
00:20:56your time on the run is definitely over.
00:20:58Yeah, good game.
00:20:59Can we make sure we get the 100g that you stole from the bank?
00:21:04Here you go.
00:21:06Paul's going to be pissed off.
00:21:08He's just driven a thousand k's from Sydney to pick us up.
00:21:12Red-handed.
00:21:13Thanks.
00:21:15That was really weird.
00:21:16We were just sitting down eating some licorice bullets
00:21:21and the hunter car just arrived out of nowhere.
00:21:24Bang, jumped out, nailed us.
00:21:27They've put a lot of resources into catching us,
00:21:29which makes us feel good.
00:21:31Yes, we got caught, but at the end of the day,
00:21:33it was a fair fight.
00:21:34We really gave it our best.
00:21:35We're in their territory.
00:21:37Yeah.
00:21:38And, you know, we gave them a run for their money.
00:21:41Yeah, look at her.
00:21:42She ran like a frigging jackrabbit.
00:21:48Our job is to catch all the fugitives
00:21:51and we're going full bore.
00:21:53This is the pointy end of the game.
00:21:55We cannot make any slip-ups.
00:21:57We're going to send out every resource that we possibly have
00:22:00on these last fugitive pairs.
00:22:02Oh, shit.
00:22:04They're on our tail.
00:22:12Still a bit of work to do.
00:22:14Yep, there is, yep.
00:22:15OK.
00:22:16Despite Tony and Kayleigh's capture,
00:22:18there's still six fugitives hoping to reach extraction
00:22:22and with just five days remaining,
00:22:25the hunters have little intel to work with,
00:22:28but they may still hold a psychological advantage.
00:22:32I think the closer that fugitives get to that prospect of extraction,
00:22:37a level of confidence might start to set in for them.
00:22:41What we're counting on is that that confidence
00:22:44might also be their undoing.
00:22:46With Roman and Chelsea,
00:22:48they were able to evade the hunters early on,
00:22:51but they may have forgotten what it's like
00:22:53to feel the paranoia and the stress being hunted.
00:22:57This is not easy.
00:22:59I know.
00:23:00This is hard work.
00:23:02For Ketch and Jo, their confidence has built
00:23:04over the time that they've been on the run.
00:23:07My future husband.
00:23:08Your future wife is a great camping gal.
00:23:13We want to turn up the pressure on the people
00:23:15that are well-known to them and get them to make a mistake.
00:23:19We're going to try to get accommodation
00:23:21so we don't have to come back to this camping ground.
00:23:24That's the spirit.
00:23:26Andy and Deb have a really clear plan
00:23:28to minimise their digital footprint,
00:23:31to have minimal contact with known associates.
00:23:34And what's your connection to Andy and Deb?
00:23:37I'm brother-in-law.
00:23:38Yeah.
00:23:39And he loves the outdoors.
00:23:41One of his favourite people are Bear Grylls.
00:23:43Yeah.
00:23:45Gotcha.
00:23:47It wouldn't surprise me
00:23:48if he could actually live off the land forever.
00:23:52Wow.
00:23:53Getting towards the end of it, you know,
00:23:55if they start to see the possibility
00:23:57of actually making it to extraction,
00:23:59we need to turn up the heat.
00:24:04Is it like a packer or something?
00:24:05I don't know.
00:24:08It's like a sherpa.
00:24:10After camping overnight in south-east Victoria...
00:24:14Thanks very much.
00:24:15Thanks, see you.
00:24:16..and following a few rejections
00:24:18trying to pre-arrange a lift out of the area...
00:24:21Sorry to interrupt you.
00:24:22He's not here, alright?
00:24:23Yeah, I've just changed it up.
00:24:25This air is terrible.
00:24:26Andy and Deb have scored a luxury ride with a fellow camper.
00:24:31Thanks so much, Lauren.
00:24:33You're a legend.
00:24:35That's some nice stuff.
00:24:38You're pretty hidden in the back of Fat Tony there
00:24:40cos his tent's pretty impressive.
00:24:43What's Fat Tony?
00:24:44He's my car.
00:24:45Oh, sorry.
00:24:47Where do you guys need to go?
00:24:48Well, we just, we want to get out of the whole area
00:24:51and then just go and find someone else to help us.
00:24:54This is the pointy end of the game
00:24:56and we cannot make any slip-ups.
00:24:59From now until extraction, we have to just be so careful.
00:25:04No breadcrumbs.
00:25:06We still have been moving every 24 hours.
00:25:09Relying on strangers.
00:25:10It's worked for us so far.
00:25:12We're going to get to the end
00:25:13and we're going to get to the end together.
00:25:19The only thing we've got from them, right,
00:25:21is probably the Gumtree misinformation decoy campaign.
00:25:24That's it.
00:25:25That's it.
00:25:26We need to ramp up the public appeal, don't we?
00:25:29Yeah.
00:25:30That's pretty much really all we've got on the table.
00:25:32To flush out.
00:25:33We need a digital footprint or just a geography.
00:25:36Yeah.
00:25:37My personal perspective on Andy and Deb
00:25:39is that they're either incredibly shrewd and smart
00:25:42or they're incredibly lucky.
00:25:44In any event, they are the toughest fugitives
00:25:47I've ever had the misfortune of trying to track down.
00:25:50But hopefully that will change very, very quickly
00:25:52and when we do get them,
00:25:53at least I can say the toughest opponents did not win.
00:25:58See you.
00:26:00All the best.
00:26:01Andy and Deb have been dropped off
00:26:03in the outer eastern Melbourne suburb of Belgrave...
00:26:06They're not home.
00:26:08..and plan to doorknock strangers,
00:26:11slowly making their way towards the city before extraction.
00:26:16You know, the Instagram post is definitely something
00:26:18that made us more aware of being out in public,
00:26:21but everyone we've met have been so generous and trustworthy.
00:26:24I think we just need to trust people.
00:26:27I believe in the goodness of most of humanity.
00:26:30Hello.
00:26:31Everyone we've met has been amazing.
00:26:33We've just got to keep meeting the right people.
00:26:35Hello.
00:26:37Hello. So sorry to bother you.
00:26:40We are fugitives on the run
00:26:43and we are just currently...
00:26:47I was joking.
00:26:48Oh, great.
00:26:49And we're just wondering if we might be able
00:26:51to maybe pitch a tent in your backyard or something.
00:26:55Oh, that would be amazing.
00:26:57Thank you so much.
00:26:58I'll take my shoes off.
00:27:00If you want us to do any work or anything like that,
00:27:02feel free to...
00:27:04Yeah, I probably won't let you on the chain
00:27:06because we had that big storm.
00:27:07Yeah.
00:27:08Yeah, yeah. So, yeah, I'm a firefighter.
00:27:10We use chain saws all the time,
00:27:11so if you need me to cut wood,
00:27:12I'm happy to do that sort of thing for you.
00:27:17Being the fire service,
00:27:18they're always willing to, you know, lend a hand.
00:27:21Knowing that I'm helping people
00:27:23is a huge driving force for me.
00:27:28Whilst being on the run,
00:27:29working at people's houses, we give back a little bit,
00:27:32but also it distracts us from thinking
00:27:34about what the hunters are doing and what we should be doing.
00:27:37Cleaning cars and helping out on the farm
00:27:40and picking up poop.
00:27:42Yeah, nailing it.
00:27:44When we just kind of get our hands dirty and stay active,
00:27:47I think your mind just calms as well.
00:27:52The thought with Andy and Deb was to see if we can stick
00:27:55some steroids up the backside of the public campaign.
00:27:58I think we need to do that.
00:27:59I think, you know, we've got no time like the present,
00:28:01so we get it up and going now.
00:28:03Yeah.
00:28:04Yeah, so I need you guys to go hard on that IO campaign.
00:28:07It's just posted on our Instagram account
00:28:09and our Facebook account.
00:28:10Right-o, let's get that broader.
00:28:12Let's extend that out.
00:28:13You know, public access points, train stations, buses.
00:28:17Yeah.
00:28:18Everything that we can target, we will.
00:28:19We're going to force these guys to make a mistake.
00:28:21Yep. Copy.
00:28:22That's what we're going to do.
00:28:26I think the hunters can definitely appear to be intimidating
00:28:31The hunters will be just using every resource they've got.
00:28:34They've got access to social media, they've got billboards.
00:28:37I really look forward to making it to extraction
00:28:40and giving them a wave or even a finger
00:28:43as we make our way to our prize money.
00:28:55With five days left of the game,
00:28:57HQ are working against the clock
00:28:59to capture the remaining three fugitive pairs.
00:29:03Right.
00:29:05Who's next?
00:29:06We need to recalibrate on these two.
00:29:09Akech and Joe.
00:29:11Intelligence League, CC,
00:29:13has turned her attention to fugitives Akech and Joe.
00:29:18If we get more associates for these guys,
00:29:20I'm going to need a bigger chart because there's a lot.
00:29:25After exhausting Joe's comedy network
00:29:28and a failed stakeout of a comedy night in Melbourne...
00:29:31We now need to go back into Akech.
00:29:34...CC is now looking in Akech's large network of contacts
00:29:38for any new leads.
00:29:40Closer to extraction, they're sort of like,
00:29:43you do want to go back a little bit in your comfort zone.
00:29:45I agree.
00:29:46And in their local area, in terms of where they live,
00:29:49they're known.
00:29:50Intelligence gathering is like getting pieces of the jigsaw puzzle
00:29:53and piecing them together.
00:29:55What about the AFL community?
00:29:57What we hope to achieve by doing that
00:29:59is to actually have the full picture,
00:30:01understand where they're going and who they're hooking up with.
00:30:04Once we understand that, we catch them.
00:30:06Let's have a look at the list you played with.
00:30:08Oh, I did that already.
00:30:09Let's run all the names.
00:30:11We've canvassed the Hawthorne list.
00:30:13Yes.
00:30:15So we've got to think of another angle.
00:30:19What else can we do?
00:30:22I say we go full covert.
00:30:25Even just if we do a search of the house.
00:30:27At least we can get an indication of where they plan to travel.
00:30:30As a last resort,
00:30:32CC is now heading up an operation
00:30:35to covertly search Akech's apartment
00:30:38in the hope of finding anything to aid in their investigation.
00:30:44Hello, hello.
00:30:45Right, so the objective is to enter Akech's residential address.
00:30:50I think the important thing is to try and determine
00:30:52if there are any cameras that we can see in the house
00:30:55and any written notes as well.
00:30:58OK.
00:30:59Bin rummaging might be a thing as well.
00:31:01All right, I like it.
00:31:02Yep.
00:31:03Let's do it.
00:31:05Every avenue of inquiry may lead to a new piece of evidence,
00:31:09but we don't have a lot of time now,
00:31:11so it's critical for us to throw all our resources
00:31:14at every fugitive pair.
00:31:16Tonight, it's Akech and Jo's turn.
00:31:19While Delta prepare for an evening covert entry
00:31:23of Akech's apartment in Seddon.
00:31:2730km away,
00:31:29Akech and Jo are back near the city
00:31:32after several uncomfortable days camping.
00:31:35The hips are just sore.
00:31:39I probably need a physio after this.
00:31:41There is no way I'm going to sleep like this.
00:31:44My hips are gone from the camping.
00:31:47Oh, Jesus.
00:31:49So we are hoping to rely on you.
00:31:51They've met up with Deng,
00:31:53a friend from Akech's large network of Melbourne contacts.
00:31:57We stay with you tonight.
00:31:59OK.
00:32:00We have friends in different parts.
00:32:03They've just been so good to us.
00:32:05Yeah, we're trying to avoid where the cameras are at.
00:32:08But this time of the game, the stakes are really high.
00:32:11It's starting to get exhausting.
00:32:14It's almost extraction time, you know?
00:32:16You guys look so tired. Have you got time to break?
00:32:19Or we could go and get a massage.
00:32:23I mean, I would love a massage.
00:32:25I would love a massage too.
00:32:27It's a bit risky, obviously.
00:32:29Being on the run, our backs are sore.
00:32:32It's very stressful. We're on high alert.
00:32:35But I've been through a lot in my life.
00:32:39And so this game doesn't scare me at all.
00:32:43When things get tough on the run,
00:32:45my biggest motivator would be the level of resilience
00:32:48my mum showed when we were in Africa.
00:32:51I was born in a refugee camp in Sudan.
00:32:54Mum had to look after six kids by herself.
00:32:57You see a single mum and you see six kids,
00:33:00and there is, you know, predators at night.
00:33:03And so what she would do is she would tie three of us
00:33:07to her left side and three of us to her right side.
00:33:10It happens, you know, where someone will try to take you
00:33:13and then we'll all wake up because we had this rope
00:33:15that worked as a security lifeline, I guess,
00:33:18and, you know, we will all fight this person off
00:33:21and we'll go back to our corner.
00:33:24So I've always channelled in that level of resilience.
00:33:27That's why we're going to win.
00:33:29If someone's chasing you, run.
00:33:31I'm like, eh, it's back in Sudan again.
00:33:34The risk of getting a massage
00:33:36is a risk that I'm willing to take!
00:33:40Oh, we're going to sleep like babies tonight.
00:33:46Hello.
00:33:48Not too bad. How are you guys?
00:33:50Is it possible to get two one-hour massages?
00:33:53Sure. Oh, amazing.
00:33:55Here, pay cash or card.
00:33:57Pay cash? Yeah.
00:34:02As Jo pays with the stolen money...
00:34:05And bring the entry kit.
00:34:09..Delta is making a covert entry into a catcher's apartment.
00:34:15Sweet. We're in. We are in.
00:34:18Fugitives are aware their homes may be searched
00:34:21during their time on the run, but have no idea when.
00:34:26Oh, that feels nice.
00:34:28Oh, yes.
00:34:30That's exactly what I was talking about.
00:34:32Can you shut up?
00:34:35If the hunters come now, we're not running a catch.
00:34:38Too relaxed.
00:34:40No, but do not disturb me. I'm busy.
00:34:44I reckon we'll find something for sure.
00:34:46We'll find something.
00:34:48We'll find something.
00:34:50We'll find something.
00:34:52We'll find something.
00:34:54We'll find something for sure.
00:34:56Still random things, isn't there?
00:34:58Rituals for self-care.
00:35:03Oh, this is life on the run.
00:35:06And we're enjoying our life.
00:35:11OK, I catch. What have you got for us?
00:35:14So I've got a Kmart reset here.
00:35:17Wi-Fi details.
00:35:19I'll get that to Cyber. Yeah, perfect.
00:35:25Ain't much here.
00:35:27You did an amazing job.
00:35:29Thank you so much.
00:35:31Thank you so much. Appreciate it.
00:35:35Hi, Cece.
00:35:37So you've attended the address of a catch
00:35:39and conducted a covert entry.
00:35:41What have you found?
00:35:45We didn't find much on the fugitive Cece.
00:35:49We've seen through what we've got,
00:35:51but nothing much to work with, I'm afraid.
00:35:54We might leave it there
00:35:56and appreciate your efforts.
00:35:58Intelligence gathering is time critical,
00:36:00but Akech and Jo,
00:36:02they've gone under the radar.
00:36:04This really frustrates us.
00:36:07Back to the start.
00:36:20Right, CC, LP,
00:36:22can I see you guys over here?
00:36:26OK, team.
00:36:28We've got three fugitive pairs left.
00:36:30We've got Akech and Jo, Romney and Chelsea
00:36:32and Andy and Deb.
00:36:34All right, let's have a look at Akech and Jo.
00:36:38We conducted a covert entry
00:36:40into Akech's house.
00:36:42The covert entry indicates that...
00:36:44Hey, Chief. Yes, Jane.
00:36:46Some of the bait money
00:36:48has been deposited at a bank
00:36:50in Moonee Ponds.
00:36:52It was the previous day's takings
00:36:54from Serenity Massage and Spa.
00:36:58What?
00:37:00It was deposited today, but it was yesterday's takings.
00:37:02And it was four $50 notes.
00:37:06Sending you the details now.
00:37:08Thank you. Fantastic.
00:37:10We need to catch them today.
00:37:12Whoever that is
00:37:14has got to go down, Chief.
00:37:16This piece of information
00:37:18is huge for us.
00:37:20And to have a massage on the run
00:37:22tells me a lot about the mindset of these fugitives.
00:37:24But you know what?
00:37:26Now we've seen this digital footprint.
00:37:28We're right on their tail.
00:37:30So we're going to chase it. We're going to chase it hard.
00:37:32We're on the hunt.
00:37:38Hey, Chief.
00:37:40Yes, Jane.
00:37:42Some of the bait money has been deposited
00:37:44at a bank in Moonee Ponds.
00:37:46It was the previous day's takings
00:37:48from Serenity Massage and Spa.
00:37:50Bloody awesome.
00:37:52Nice.
00:37:54Nice.
00:37:56Whoever that is has got to go down, Chief.
00:37:58That is BS.
00:38:00With no leads on the final six fugitives,
00:38:02a deposit of the stolen
00:38:04bank money has the hunters
00:38:06one step closer to capturing
00:38:08their next fugitive pair.
00:38:10Can we get
00:38:12CCTV from that massage parlor?
00:38:14Yeah.
00:38:16Alright.
00:38:18Let's see who went through the front door
00:38:20and what they were doing when they were in there.
00:38:22This is the hottest lead we've had
00:38:24in the last 72 hours.
00:38:30Joe, we need to go.
00:38:3222 kilometres southwest
00:38:34of Melbourne's CBD,
00:38:36fugitive friends Akech and Joe
00:38:38have spent the night
00:38:40with associate Deng.
00:38:42But their plan to use Deng's
00:38:44car for the remaining days
00:38:46has hit an unexpected
00:38:48complication.
00:38:52So, uh,
00:38:54what happened to the car?
00:38:56It's got a puncture.
00:38:58It's got a puncture.
00:39:00I think it's a bit tight.
00:39:04With their plan to extraction
00:39:06stumped, tensions are
00:39:08beginning to rise between the two
00:39:10friends.
00:39:14Akech, I would rather Uber it out of this house.
00:39:18Breathe for a second.
00:39:20I'm okay.
00:39:22That's what I'm saying, so let's figure it out.
00:39:24We just need to play this
00:39:26smarter.
00:39:28We need to run.
00:39:30Where do we go to?
00:39:32Because I'd rather use
00:39:34our helpers.
00:39:36At least with them, they have cars.
00:39:38So that's why we just need to
00:39:40make a decision.
00:39:46I'm trying to find us a car,
00:39:48but I need you to trust me.
00:39:50Yeah, you do. Just having a conversation.
00:39:54Of course I trust you.
00:39:58But I'm also allowed to,
00:40:00you know, think with you.
00:40:02That's what I'm saying.
00:40:04I've trusted you since day one.
00:40:06Yeah, but it's like, let's just
00:40:08make the right
00:40:10decision for what's
00:40:12going to help us.
00:40:14What I'm suggesting is instead of being
00:40:16nervous in the house, we can then go
00:40:18across the park. That way we can stake
00:40:20whoever that's coming in the house.
00:40:22Because if the hunters come, we can run.
00:40:28You don't think the park is too open
00:40:30for cars driving past to see us?
00:40:32I was just suggesting the park, because
00:40:34you seem to be nervous being here.
00:40:36I'm not nervous. I'm having a discussion
00:40:38with you and Dan.
00:40:40Because even without all, like,
00:40:42the stakes are so high now,
00:40:44and like, our all game plan,
00:40:46they're going to probably figure it
00:40:48out. So we can't,
00:40:50like, today's a different day.
00:40:54What's that way? That's someone's house.
00:40:56Unsure whether to leave or
00:40:58stay, Akech and Joe
00:41:00look for possible escape routes
00:41:02away from Deng's property.
00:41:06We're definitely not safe at this house.
00:41:08We definitely need to get out of this
00:41:10place as soon as possible.
00:41:12But when you're scared,
00:41:14and with fear, and like, you're about to be caught,
00:41:16a lot of fear comes in and you
00:41:18start making mistakes.
00:41:20It's really what do we do after this?
00:41:22There's not a lot of days left.
00:41:26The hunters, there's more of them now
00:41:28and there's probably less of us, so
00:41:30the only thing that Joe and I can control
00:41:32is what we do.
00:41:34What we can control is the decisions
00:41:36that we make and how we execute
00:41:38those decisions.
00:41:46We're getting warmer, guys.
00:41:48Getting warmer.
00:41:50You got a warm fuzzy feeling, Ben? Yep.
00:41:52You do? Got capture pants on, though?
00:41:54I've got my, in actual fact,
00:41:56I have my,
00:41:58what the Aussie workman's...
00:42:00You got your stubbies on?
00:42:02Don't know what they are, but yep.
00:42:06Hey, Chief. We've just received
00:42:08CCTV from inside Serenity
00:42:10Massage and Spa in Ascot Vale.
00:42:12Great. Thanks, Joe.
00:42:14Alright, team, we're going to get this on the big screen.
00:42:16We'll find out who the fugitives are.
00:42:20So this is inside the parlour?
00:42:22So that's no.
00:42:26Who's that?
00:42:28Oh, here they are.
00:42:30Akech and Joe. Akech and Joe.
00:42:32Stop it.
00:42:34Who's that guy?
00:42:36That's not Joe.
00:42:38That is definitely not Joe.
00:42:40So they've got
00:42:42a friend.
00:42:44So who's that guy?
00:42:46Alright, I'll find out who the hell this is.
00:42:48I think we've got a good enough look at his face
00:42:50there to maybe run that through some AI
00:42:52for a positive ID.
00:42:54For a positive ID?
00:42:56This needs to be a priority, guys.
00:42:58Yep.
00:43:00That would be the hottest lead out of all of them.
00:43:02If we can identify him, we could have them today.
00:43:06For us as hunters, if we do not evolve,
00:43:08we will not win.
00:43:10If you look at any sports team in the world,
00:43:12if they're not evolving, they will not win.
00:43:14It's exactly the same as us.
00:43:16We need to know every possible angle
00:43:18that we can take to catch them.
00:43:20Things they've never even heard about.
00:43:22We've got a hit on the facial recognition.
00:43:24You've got a name. This is ARJ.
00:43:26We've got that unidentified male
00:43:28that was at the Serenity Massage and Spa.
00:43:30His name's Ding.
00:43:32How certain is that?
00:43:34100%.
00:43:36Jay, if you work on what that connection is,
00:43:38then if he's connected on social media,
00:43:40that'd be great. Yep.
00:43:42And then, registered number and a home address.
00:43:46Somebody's chasing.
00:43:48Just come, jump over.
00:43:50You're literally gone.
00:43:54How do we maximise?
00:43:56Get out. Go.
00:44:02The calm before the storm.
00:44:04Hey, Chief.
00:44:06We have the driver's
00:44:08licence information for Ding.
00:44:10Yeah, awesome. Great stuff.
00:44:12Have we got his official address now, yeah?
00:44:14Yeah. Ding lives in Point Cook.
00:44:16Great cook.
00:44:18Delta team are relatively close.
00:44:20OK.
00:44:22Delta, Delta HQ.
00:44:26Go ahead, HQ.
00:44:28An individual of interest has come to light
00:44:30for Akech and Joe.
00:44:32We're keen to get you tracking towards
00:44:34Ding's property.
00:44:36Yeah, copy.
00:44:38ETA in 20 minutes.
00:44:40You know what? We have been given the runaround
00:44:42with Akech and Joe's network.
00:44:44It's not just in here, but on the ground particularly,
00:44:46we are getting very tired.
00:44:48Excuse my French, but pissed off.
00:44:50This could be a capture team.
00:44:52Go, Delta.
00:44:54Let's go, Kel.
00:44:56They're here.
00:44:58Enough is enough. The game will end
00:45:00and we will catch them if it kills us.
00:45:10Confirm at four minutes out, over.
00:45:12Copy, four minutes.
00:45:14With one of the hottest leads
00:45:16in the past 48 hours,
00:45:18team Delta
00:45:20are arriving at Ding's house.
00:45:22This could be a capture team.
00:45:24Go, Delta.
00:45:26In the hope of finding fugitives
00:45:28Akech and Joe.
00:45:38Hello, Ding.
00:45:40We're looking for two fugitives on the run.
00:45:42Oh, okay.
00:45:44They're not here?
00:45:46Come on, Ding, you're not a very good liar.
00:45:48Let's go. It's just a question.
00:45:54So they left? Yeah, what time?
00:45:56Twelve or one.
00:45:58Perfect.
00:46:02HQ, this is Delta.
00:46:04Delta, go ahead.
00:46:06Fugitives did stay at his house.
00:46:08But then, yeah, they left.
00:46:12And then he was like, they wouldn't be coming back.
00:46:18They have to be here somewhere.
00:46:20I know, I know.
00:46:28There's Milan.
00:46:30Let's go.
00:46:32Chaos.
00:46:34Absolute chaos.
00:46:36Putting their differences aside,
00:46:38Joe has agreed to go ahead
00:46:40with Akech's plan
00:46:42to move between their friend network
00:46:44every few hours for the remaining days
00:46:46until extraction.
00:46:48You're doing great.
00:46:50My goal was to last a day.
00:46:52A day?
00:46:56Whose place are we going to?
00:46:58We're going to call my friend.
00:47:00His name is Sammy.
00:47:02Akech knows him as well.
00:47:04Determined to keep the hunters
00:47:06off their scent,
00:47:08they have recruited Milan,
00:47:10who will take them south to Caulfield,
00:47:12where they will make contact
00:47:14with their next associate, Sammy.
00:47:18What is this life?
00:47:20Why would you do this to yourself?
00:47:22I've never been part of this show,
00:47:24and I have anxiety right now.
00:47:26To further confuse the hunters,
00:47:28Akech and Joe have devised a plan
00:47:30to hand over their credit card
00:47:32to Sammy, who will then make
00:47:34a decoy ATM transaction
00:47:36far away from the Caulfield area.
00:47:38Are you excited to be a decoy?
00:47:40I am very excited to be a decoy.
00:47:42I'm excited to watch it.
00:47:44Sammy!
00:47:48That's my guy right there, everyone.
00:47:50Bro, we've got money in here, man.
00:47:58Last time I saw you were a comedian,
00:48:00now you're a criminal.
00:48:02How are you? Good to see you.
00:48:04This is Milan,
00:48:06and Milan has been our getaway driver.
00:48:08You are now responsible for this?
00:48:10We're going to use her as a decoy.
00:48:14That's a bank card that we have.
00:48:16Whenever she uses it,
00:48:18it will trigger that Akech is on there.
00:48:22Let's get you out of here.
00:48:24Joe, we need the bags. We need to go.
00:48:26When you do your decoy thing,
00:48:28we're going to kill it.
00:48:32Bye, decoy.
00:48:38These guys have got
00:48:40the toughest network to beat
00:48:42because there are so many options.
00:48:44You can go the cultural, you can go the artistic
00:48:46kind of side of things, like there's a lot
00:48:48going on there. Ben,
00:48:50we've got bank card activity
00:48:52from Akech at an ATM
00:48:54in the Altona North
00:48:56Ampol.
00:48:58There are two Ampols
00:49:00in Altona North.
00:49:02Are we able to get any of the CCTV?
00:49:04I can do that if you want.
00:49:06Thank you very much.
00:49:10Just received CCTV.
00:49:12Going to put the footage up on the big screen right now.
00:49:14Brilliant. Fantastic.
00:49:16We'll see you go to the cash machine.
00:49:20Who's that?
00:49:22That's not Akech.
00:49:24Trying to
00:49:26throw us off the scent.
00:49:28After deep diving
00:49:30into the huge friend network
00:49:32of Akech and Joe over the past
00:49:3416 days, it has
00:49:36finally paid off for the cyber team.
00:49:40Ah. With Jay
00:49:42recognising their associate,
00:49:44Malan. OK.
00:49:46Malan is the person in that ATM here.
00:49:50Oh, yeah. That is her.
00:49:52Malan? Yeah. Have we got an address
00:49:54for Malan's house? She's got a relationship with Akech,
00:49:56so she's also part of the South Sudanese
00:49:58community and they work for the
00:50:00same advocacy groups and things. Thinking we
00:50:02could do Delta hit Malan.
00:50:04Not literally,
00:50:06but go and speak to her.
00:50:08OK. Time and rattle the network.
00:50:10Delta,
00:50:12you'll be getting Malan's
00:50:14home address.
00:50:18With team Delta in transit
00:50:20to Malan's house,
00:50:22Akech and Joe are with
00:50:24Sammy, continuing
00:50:26their plan to move swiftly
00:50:28between contacts.
00:50:30They're on the run and
00:50:32they are getting hunted.
00:50:34Sammy is trying to arrange accommodation
00:50:36with one of his friends
00:50:38who has no traceable
00:50:40connection to the fugitives.
00:50:44Um, so yeah, I was just
00:50:46wondering if you would be
00:50:48comfortable if they
00:50:50crashed at yours tonight?
00:50:52Yeah, that's OK.
00:51:00Malan? Hi. Hi.
00:51:02Can we come in and have a chat? Sure.
00:51:08So, um, well, what we are looking for
00:51:10is a couple of fugitives.
00:51:12Yeah, no idea what you're talking about.
00:51:14Terrible liar, so let's think about it
00:51:16that again.
00:51:18I did drop them to
00:51:20a location, but after that
00:51:22I had no communication with them at all.
00:51:24Malan?
00:51:28Malan? Come on.
00:51:30Alright, I dropped them
00:51:34Alma Street and Gwenroy
00:51:36Road. Can we have a look
00:51:38at your phone, please? Thank you.
00:51:40Oh, my God.
00:51:42Is there anything about it?
00:51:44I don't know.
00:51:46Potentially, maybe a couple of
00:51:48little locations here that you might not have deleted.
00:51:52Thank you so much for coming through for us, Sammy.
00:51:54We knew you were the guy for today.
00:51:58So, Malan?
00:52:00Yes? Where were they going? They were getting picked up
00:52:02by another friend. Who? Part of the community?
00:52:04Think.
00:52:06What was his name?
00:52:10Sammy.
00:52:14Sammy.
00:52:18Watch every adrenaline-pumping
00:52:20moment of the thrilling third
00:52:22series of Haunted Australia
00:52:24with full episodes on
00:52:2610 Play.
00:52:30What was his name?
00:52:34Sammy. What's Sammy's surname?
00:52:36I don't know his last name.
00:52:38Ah,
00:52:40what's this?
00:52:42So, I've got your message off Emma,
00:52:44who is
00:52:46currently with Malan,
00:52:48and she says this guy picked up
00:52:50in Coalfield, and then
00:52:52we have a number.
00:52:54Can we get a quick check-in
00:52:56for the following number, please?
00:52:58There's a name of Sammy.
00:53:00Brilliant.
00:53:02That's good. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.
00:53:04That's the best sign we've had for a while,
00:53:06so that's excellent.
00:53:08Delta have been amazing.
00:53:10Do you want to chuck him in, Burnsy, for a check?
00:53:12Yeah. If you're happy it's him.
00:53:14See if we can get ahead of it.
00:53:16They've actually pinpointed where
00:53:18Akech and Joe could be right this second.
00:53:20We feel very excited.
00:53:22Everyone's excited. We are
00:53:24going for it, trust me.
00:53:28After contacting his friend Layla,
00:53:30This is where we're staying, guys, in this garage.
00:53:32Sammy is dropping
00:53:34Akech and Joe one hour
00:53:36north of the CBD,
00:53:38where they will spend the night hiding
00:53:40out in Layla's garage.
00:53:42Looks like we're in for a rough one, guys.
00:53:44Winning will mean
00:53:46everything to me.
00:53:48I could really use a share of the
00:53:50100 grand. I've got plans to visit
00:53:52Ethiopia. I haven't been
00:53:54since I've migrated to Australia,
00:53:56so I'm hoping
00:53:58I can go back and, you know,
00:54:00try to connect with my roots.
00:54:04Sammy...
00:54:08Sammy...
00:54:14Do we have
00:54:16images of Sammy?
00:54:18Can someone send them over, please?
00:54:20With only four days remaining
00:54:22to catch the final six fugitives,
00:54:24HQ are
00:54:26working around the clock
00:54:28to narrow down details on Akech
00:54:30and Joe's associate Sammy.
00:54:32After he was brought to their attention
00:54:34by contact Milan.
00:54:36What do we do
00:54:38with the drunken sailor?
00:54:40I wonder if he's with them.
00:54:42We need to find Sam.
00:54:44Shall I
00:54:46just periodically try and call Sam
00:54:48and... Yeah, 100%.
00:54:50And hone him into Hunters? Yep.
00:54:56Hey, Sammy, it's Ben here,
00:54:58Hunter headquarters. Oh, hey, how's it going?
00:55:00Yeah, not bad, buddy, thank you.
00:55:02Quick question, with Akech and Joe, when were you with them
00:55:04last, mate? Just for my log and my notes,
00:55:06cos I'm terrible at trying to keep track of everything.
00:55:10Oh, I haven't seen them.
00:55:12Oh, no, you definitely have, mate, cos they've been in your
00:55:14vehicle.
00:55:16They've been in my vehicle? Yeah, Milan
00:55:18didn't... Milan bring them over to you.
00:55:20She's told us what's gone on, so
00:55:22I'll just cut to the chase rather than you tell me
00:55:24you don't know who Akech and Joe are.
00:55:26Well, I don't know what to tell you, bro.
00:55:28The truth? I have no idea.
00:55:30Oh, mate. You've got nothing further
00:55:32to tell, mate.
00:55:34Yeah, all right, mate,
00:55:36I'll let you go. Cheers. Thank you very much, Sammy.
00:55:38Bye-bye.
00:55:40Oh, God.
00:55:42What do we do from here?
00:55:44Another brick wall.
00:55:46So he's not with them, that's what I'm hearing.
00:55:48He's not with the fugitives. Did he drive
00:55:50them, but then somebody else took them?
00:55:52Yeah, I think Sammy
00:55:54drove them from the
00:55:56drop-off of Milan. Sammy's
00:55:58picked them up, literally taken them maybe
00:56:00to somewhere else, but it's the somewhere else
00:56:02we don't know about. They've got all these friends
00:56:04that are just handing them on to the next person,
00:56:06the next person.
00:56:08Given the fact that we now know
00:56:10that Milan
00:56:12called Sammy,
00:56:14could we please ask for internet connection
00:56:16records on Sammy's phone so we can
00:56:18identify any WhatsApp calls that he does, if
00:56:20that's their MO? Yeah. If he's
00:56:22sent them off to someone else
00:56:24via WhatsApp, we'll
00:56:26at least get the metadata from
00:56:28to not necessarily content, so...
00:56:30I'll follow them all up.
00:56:32Fantastic.
00:56:42After a long, uncomfortable night
00:56:44spent hiding out in a garage
00:56:46north of Melbourne... Yeah, we would
00:56:48love to see how we can
00:56:50possibly get another
00:56:52place. Do you by any chance know
00:56:54anyone or we can brainstorm?
00:56:56OK, let me go through my phone
00:56:58and see. Fugitives
00:57:00Akech and Jo are
00:57:02preparing to move to their next
00:57:04location with the help of latest
00:57:06accomplice, Leila.
00:57:08I don't even know if he's going to answer.
00:57:11Hi, the person you...
00:57:17Ideally not an apartment
00:57:19place, right? Ideally
00:57:21not an apartment. OK.
00:57:23I'm sure we have mutual friends.
00:57:25Do you know Wani?
00:57:34Stop, I can see why you were hanging out
00:57:36with Brett Samuel all day yesterday.
00:57:40Hi, the person you have called...
00:57:42Bitch.
00:57:46Ben, we've
00:57:48been able to retrieve the metadata
00:57:50from the WhatsApp calls made on
00:57:52Samuel's device. Lovely. I'll send through the list
00:57:54now. Hallelujah.
00:57:56The last one, which is
00:57:58actually the longest call for two minutes, which means
00:58:00that's the place they probably are.
00:58:02Are we going to get this?
00:58:04Let's prioritise the number ending
00:58:06117, please. It was the
00:58:08last one to be called. So 117
00:58:10is the number which
00:58:12leads us to Akech and Joe today.
00:58:14Right, let's get on it. And we'll get
00:58:16the request in to find out who the owner
00:58:18of that handset is, Chief. Let's do it.
00:58:20And we are on it. I think that is where they
00:58:22literally could be right now.
00:58:24All units, all units, update
00:58:26for Akech and Joe.
00:58:28Stand by.
00:58:30OK, I've got another friend, Daisy.
00:58:32She lives in Brunswick.
00:58:38Hello?
00:58:40Hey, Daisy. How are you?
00:58:42I've got two fugitives with me.
00:58:44Fugitives?
00:58:46Basically, they're kind of on the run.
00:58:48Actually, they need to move
00:58:50on to the next location.
00:58:52Wait, so you need a place? Yeah, and then they'll move
00:58:54on to the next.
00:58:56Ah, OK, cool.
00:58:58Ben, we've got intel
00:59:00on that phone number you requested ending
00:59:02in 117. It actually belongs
00:59:04to Leila, and she's
00:59:06in South Morang. Woo!
00:59:08Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. I'll send that through.
00:59:10Excellent. That's the best news we've had.
00:59:12We know Sammy's phone
00:59:14interacted with a number. We've now identified
00:59:16that number again through the WhatsApp
00:59:18usage, and identified a lady
00:59:20called Leila. Leila
00:59:22is the prime candidate
00:59:24for harbouring Akech and Joe today.
00:59:26OK,
00:59:28we do have an address now, guys, off the press.
00:59:30Charlie, copy that.
00:59:32I will be very surprised
00:59:34if we do not capture Akech and Joe
00:59:36today, based on the information we've just
00:59:38identified.
00:59:48Thank you so much for having us, Daisy.
00:59:50Thank you so much for your help.
00:59:52This is the best. Thank you so much. Welcome to the house.
00:59:54You're now an accomplice.
00:59:56Hopefully you can help us
00:59:58get to our next location, and that's
01:00:00you're done with us.
01:00:10I'm just going to the front door now.
01:00:12Copy that. I'll just hold here
01:00:14until you've got eyes on. Charlie,
01:00:16you're in position now.
01:00:18Chief at Leila's. Awesome.
01:00:26Leila? Hello. How are you?
01:00:28Good. That's good. Do you know who I am?
01:00:30I have no idea. Really?
01:00:32I don't even know how you know my name.
01:00:34Oh, really? Do you know Joe Verne Akech?
01:00:36I do not
01:00:38know those people, no. Really?
01:00:40Dead end. Okay.
01:00:42Dead end.
01:00:50What's up?
01:00:56Oh, okay.
01:00:58Ah.
01:01:00Okay, okay.
01:01:02Okay, y'all need to move. There's a hunter
01:01:04at Leila's door.
01:01:06Now? Yeah. Okay.
01:01:08Let's get in the car.
01:01:10No, we need to get in the car. Oh, God.
01:01:12Okay, let's go. Let's go, let's go, let's go.
01:01:14They're on our tail.
01:01:24Let's do internet connection records,
01:01:26landline checks and everything
01:01:28on Leila, to the point of getting ahead
01:01:30so we're not continuing to just try and chase
01:01:32their trail.
01:01:34At HQ, the hunters,
01:01:36frustrated that they missed Akech
01:01:38and Joe at Leila's house,
01:01:40are keen to get back on their trail
01:01:42and reclaim the
01:01:44stolen prize money.
01:01:46Ben?
01:01:48We've got call charge records
01:01:50on Leila's phone.
01:01:52She's made a call to a number ending
01:01:54788.
01:01:56That was at 1740.
01:01:58So that was when we knocked on the door.
01:02:00She's called someone. Akech and Joe
01:02:02are getting passed from
01:02:04one associate to another associate.
01:02:06Enough is enough.
01:02:08We've got intel on the phone number. Yep.
01:02:10It belongs to Daisy and it's
01:02:12registered to an address in Brunswick.
01:02:14I'll send that through now.
01:02:16Good one.
01:02:18Daisy, thank you. They keep moving
01:02:20and moving and moving, but we are closing
01:02:22the gap. Charlie and
01:02:24Delta, hot off the press,
01:02:26we now have a new
01:02:28address in Brunswick.
01:02:30ETA to
01:02:32location please, guys.
01:02:34We will be there in 30 minutes.
01:02:36Lovely.
01:02:38I think finally we're ahead of them. They're going to be there.
01:02:40We're going to get them.
01:02:42Let's hope.
01:02:44Our priority at the moment is getting two ground hunter resources
01:02:46at that address. The property will be
01:02:48completely surrounded and we'll knock on that door
01:02:50and capture Akech and Joe.
01:02:54After a phone call
01:02:56alerting them to hunters at
01:02:58Layla's house. Is this going
01:03:00to the boot? Is the boot big enough
01:03:02our backs? Should be alright.
01:03:04Akech and Joe are preparing
01:03:06to leave Daisy's.
01:03:10Delta,
01:03:12this is Charlie. Over.
01:03:14Delta, go ahead.
01:03:16So obviously we have the fugitive
01:03:18pair Akech and Joe likely
01:03:20in this Brunswick address. We're going to be
01:03:22going on foot and finding the front of that
01:03:24address and hopefully keep them inside, but there
01:03:26is a potential for them to run out of the
01:03:28rear. So you guys will need to be there to pick them up.
01:03:30What's your ETA of that location?
01:03:32Yeah, we're 700 metres
01:03:34off. About two minutes.
01:03:36I'm nervous.
01:03:42Is this here?
01:03:44Just go a little
01:03:46bit further. I just want to look down.
01:03:50Headquarters, this is Charlie. Over.
01:03:54Loud and clear to headquarters.
01:03:56We have identified the front
01:03:58of the street.
01:04:00They've got nowhere to go.
01:04:02They've got absolutely nowhere to go.
01:04:04We've got them here.
01:04:06Roger that.
01:04:08Delta, do you read?
01:04:10Delta, copy. We're here now.
01:04:12You good?
01:04:14Just moving around the back now.
01:04:18I appreciate you.
01:04:20Good luck. Thank you.
01:04:28Oh, shit.
01:04:32Headquarters, that's us.
01:04:34We've got PID on both fugitives.
01:04:36Joe and Akech at that address.
01:04:38They've run back inside.
01:04:40Delta, confirm you're out of position.
01:04:42I'm at the back of the unit.
01:04:44I'm ready if they come out the back.
01:04:46Go, go, go.
01:04:48Go, go, go.
01:04:52Got backpacks here.
01:04:54Roger that. Backpacks.
01:04:56Good work, good work. Let's get them.
01:05:02Going upstairs. Roger.
01:05:04Let's go, Kimmy. Straight in.
01:05:08There's three floors.
01:05:10Where are they? Come on.
01:05:12Got to be in there somewhere.
01:05:14While Team Charlie searches the three-storey house...
01:05:18Which way do I go?
01:05:20Let me have a look.
01:05:22Akech and Joe are hiding in the side courtyard.
01:05:24Damn it.
01:05:26Damn it.
01:05:28Take the money and go.
01:05:30Give me the money.
01:05:32Quick, quick, quick.
01:05:36Akech decides to give Joe their stolen prize money.
01:05:40So that she can distract the hunters
01:05:42while Joe makes his escape.
01:05:50Come catch me.
01:05:52She's running, she's running.
01:05:54Akech, stop where you are.
01:05:56No.
01:05:58Stop, stop, stop, stop.
01:06:02Stop.
01:06:10Trying to catch us
01:06:12is like trying to catch a greased ink.
01:06:14Slippery as hell.
01:06:16The endgame is here.
01:06:18Come on.
01:06:20Come for one.
01:06:22And with extraction only days away...
01:06:24This is the pointy end of the game.
01:06:26We have to be so careful.
01:06:28Will a public sighting...
01:06:30This is the first time we've seen Andy in depth
01:06:32since day one.
01:06:34Give the hunters the lead they've been looking for.
01:06:36The blonde, the brunette.
01:06:38They're staying with our neighbours right across the road.
