00:00We're at Jekyll and Hyde which is kind of a scary restaurant pub in New York City and right now perfect for the Halloween edition
00:06We've got Glenn Danzig back on the headbangers ball. It's been a year since
00:11Since we talked on camera we got to abuse me and do all that other kind of fun stuff
00:14Well, that's a lot of fun. Of course it is. Someone's gotta do it. I'm the brunt of everybody's good jokes
00:20Anyways since last Halloween you released Thrall. Yeah, which is a live Danzig record
00:25Well, it's half live half studio, right and mother 93 if you were watching headbangers ball two weeks ago was on countdown to the ball
00:32And it's nice that a son. That's what six years four years old six six years old is now entering on countdown to the ball
00:41Everybody's catching up finally not tell me a little bit about the record
00:45What do you want to know all well?
00:48recorded live we recorded a
00:51Bunch of our live shows, but the stuff that we took off that we use for thrall is from a show
00:56We did last year at Irvine Meadows in California, you know the place. Mm-hmm. It's about 14,000 people
01:02and
01:03Just so people know that's a place that lately
01:07Concerts. I mean a lot of big bands
01:08We're not going to mention names a lot of big bands have came around Irvine Meadows and they still able to sell it out
01:13That's right. Every time you've played there. I mean, it's the one show
01:17I know in Southern, California that it's like always sells out
01:19yeah, I was sold I was oversold and you played their Halloween last year and
01:24Just so you also know it is the only year that only go Boingo didn't play their Halloween
01:28They have a hold on that every year for I guess 10 years or so. They've played their Halloween
01:32We got to do it last Halloween and it worked out really well
01:35And I'm had zombie on the show right and Kai's and that was a great show and even ended up filming the video that we're about
01:41to play right? Oh, yeah, that's filmed
01:43some stuff in Europe to Germany and
01:47I think London
01:49Scotland which is great Glasgow and then Irvine Meadows
01:54and yeah came out really anything and you see like a lot of security guards on the stage and trying to like
02:00Put a little method to the madness, but it didn't work
02:03I mean some of the stuff that security guards were on stage because the barricade broke and they had nowhere to go
02:08We're the first band ever whose fans have broken the barricade at Irvine Meadows, and it's not a rinky-dink barricade
02:14It's a a big heavy barricade
02:17So guys, thank you
02:18And they were tearing up the scenes lighting bonfires
02:21And there were two bonfires up on the lawn because it was oversold to those people up on the lawn and there's two big
02:26Bonfires up on the lawn and people were dancing around them and look like a big pagan ritual. It was very cool
02:31It's kind of Halloween thing. Yeah, here's the video. This is mother 93
02:37Which is a live Danzig record, but it's got a couple studio studio what we did was
02:44We're gonna put the four live songs on and then we didn't want it to just be
02:49You know four songs for the price of an EP
02:51So we went in the studio just one day and very quickly just kicked out those other three songs
02:56one of them and
02:58then
02:59We gave you know everybody three extra songs and one of the ones was uh, it's coming down
03:04Which is a great song in the video. I was one of the rare people. I don't know you
03:08Was lucky that I got to see this video I explained it
03:13As best as I could on headbangers boss
03:15The only video that MTV didn't play that I really wasn't even able to fully explain the video
03:22There were a lot of how can we say it piercings piercings guy takes a nail and bangs it right?
03:28Imagine where you wouldn't want a nail they show a nail being driven through and it wasn't special effects a guy really did
03:35There's people there's people maybe even like you that are into that kind of stuff and I don't think we need you're not into that
03:41I don't think we need to say it, but kids don't try that at home
03:44Okay, but it was a pretty was a Stevenson butthead now
03:47Well, we just well, I don't know maybe if somebody happened to see that video they go
03:51You know what? I got a hammer and nail
03:52I don't I got some free time a lot of people are gonna be doing that. Maybe you would Ricky
03:56I mean, no, that's that ain't that ain't my thing. No, what is it?
03:59We don't want to talk about that on TV either now other than that video
04:04There was something that I went out in the stores and saw and bought out of curiosity was pretty surprised
04:08Was there was a record that was out about six or seven months ago called Glenn Danzig
04:13That was not what people it's the block. Are you right?
04:17Please tell me about that
04:19It's just some stuff by bouncing around some theme songs. We come out to and then I wrote a
04:24Six-piece movement about Milton's Paradise Lost and it's all kind of just classical, but it's classical music right basically
04:32Classical stuff very moody classical music now you tell me something that it would like entered on the Billboard
04:38I guess it started in at number two or three and went to number one and billboards classical chart
04:43Which I guess doesn't mean that much because they know how many classical records sell but it's still kind of nice
04:47But you think that there were classical fans that maybe were buying it that had no idea who Glenn Danzig was
04:52No, what a lot of hands was
04:54It was starting to get played on classical stations. So
04:57You know a lot of the fans bring it to the show to get signed they really like it
05:00I didn't expect to sell any we didn't do any promotion for it
05:04I figured you know, it would just be the people who asked at the end of the shows
05:07Where can I get that music or this music?
05:09I figured we'd sell about 2,000 of them and I put a disclaimer on the back, you know
05:14I said this isn't you know a Danzig album. It's different and you know, and
05:19People actually like it, you know, I'm not saying all of our fans, but the people bought it really like it and
05:24It's kind of nice when people come up after the show and you know, they want you to sign it
05:28And they tell you how much they really like it
05:30They listen to it before they go to sleep or when they want to relax or sometimes when they want to get psyched to go
05:35out or
05:36It's cool. Yeah, you might want to check it out of something. That's definitely different. It's called black. Araya black. Aria black. Aria
05:42Okay, we'll be back with more Glenn Danzig's a headbangers ball continues not out that I thought was really cool
05:47was I know you you wrote something for Roy Orbison in the past, right and
05:50Yeah, I wrote a song for his new album the original man in black, that's right. I was just gonna say that I'm sorry
05:57It's good. It's okay
05:59But tell me I mean, what is it like you got to meet Johnny Cash and stuff?
06:02Yeah, I got to meet him and teach him a song and he really liked it. So that was kind of cool because
06:08you know
06:09Certain Johnny Cash songs, you know, I remember from a long time ago
06:14I still think he's pretty bad. He's he's pretty cool guy
06:17And his voice is great and I got to teach him a song and it you know, it worked out really well
06:21That's gotta be I mean to work with as I would think like, you know
06:25I'm a big fan a lot of the old rockabilly classic and stuff like that and to get to work with Johnny Cash or Roy Orbison
06:30Are there any other people that you'd like really like to work with?
06:33I'd like to work with a lot of the old
06:36Rockabilly classic and stuff like that and to get to work with Johnny Cash or Roy Orbison
06:40Are there any other people that you'd like really like to work with I
06:45Don't know
06:47I'm sure if I thought about it, you know, cuz I like a lot of music. So right if I think about it
06:51Yeah, there's probably even do trouble which Elvis did which is on we'll get Elvis back in the grave
06:56There you got on Halloween and he'll be doing Danzig songs. We'll be back with more headbangers Bob
07:02But right now here's a scary video. Here's Ozzy bark at the moon Halloween from Halloween get it
07:07It's this Halloween theme that we've got the very scary edition of the headbangers ball here with Glenn Danzig
07:12And you know thrall came out which now are you gonna be working on any new stuff for?
07:18In December we start a new album and any titles or any ideas and yet working on that
07:23I just as soon not even put a title on it until I feel just put it out. Yeah
07:29now I have a question because
07:32Beavis and but
07:34Danzig fans and you see Beavis and butthead going off on dancing
07:37Do you think because we talked to white zombie about this before and it looks like that?
07:41They're helping breaking a lot of bands, you know, it could be
07:45You think it's just that it's getting the video finally played on prime time
07:48It's kind of funny that Beavis and butthead will play our stuff
07:51But MTV it's like stuff MTV would never play before let's get in private. Well now it's maybe now that
07:56That's kind of cool though, yeah, I mean a lot of people are complaining about Beavis and butthead I know
08:03Kids like that or grew up with kids like that and I see kids like that come to our shows all the time in some
08:09Instances I was even like I was saying Glenn
08:12I went to one of the shows in Arizona and a guy came up to me at the show goes
08:17Hey, man, you know Glenn goes does he bring his wolves on tour with him? So it you know, well
08:22I don't you know the answer to that anyway
08:24Yeah, they're in the back of the back come on back
08:27Now also you mentioned something off-camera that you're gonna be putting out a box set of Sam Hain
08:32I think we're gonna do a box set me and Erie talked about it and
08:37We I I called up the old drummers to see if they have some old photos laying around they like yeah
08:42yeah, so I took to Steve and London and so maybe we'll put out a
08:46Sam Hain box set now also since the misfits and Sam Hain we're all on plan 9, which was your record
08:53Which is your record label
08:56Don't bring it up anymore. I learned that lesson in Germany bringing up
09:06Well, that's the question then you can
09:08Throw me in the fire
09:10The question is plan 9 is your label? Yeah, and you're gonna maybe bringing in new bands on your label and starting your own
09:16Yeah, I don't know if I'm gonna call it plan 9 anymore
09:18I might call it evil live and then just start a whole new thing
09:21So if there's new bands out there, what's the kind of stuff that you're into right now?
09:26anything real
09:28You're gonna have to look hard then I don't want imitation Pearl Jam albums, you know
09:33You know, we all know who that is. Mm-hmm. You're not allowed to say that home. Yeah, so what a video
09:38We're gonna be playing next
09:40Huh? See I'm allowed to say whatever I want. Yeah, but whatever I want
09:44Yeah, anyway, I want original bands and bands that are doing it real loud now, what do you plan on doing?
09:50What is your Halloween when you're not playing? What do you do for Halloween? That depends what the option children?
09:55It's actually pretty funny. Kids are scared to come to my house. I'm hollow
09:59My candy and they won't come in the gate. They just stand outside and then they go. Uh-huh
10:04So it's pretty funny. Okay. Well, we're gonna be back with more Halloween edition of the headbangers ball
10:09Now, what are some of the stuff that you do since we're on the subject of Halloween like in past Halloweens as a kid?
10:14Did you dress up on Halloween? Oh, yeah, we dress up three or four times a day
10:18Sometimes more just from you know, sometimes just throw a sock over your head and go out and get more candy
10:24You remember the costume I was two years ago
10:27Isn't this years ago? No, it wasn't that two years ago
10:29We had a Halloween party and Glenn played acoustically
10:31and I wanted to dress up as something that nobody would think it was me and I spent the whole night as a teenage mutant
10:37Ninja-turtle and I came backstage and I came backstage. I'm going to go and I'm like, ah, yeah, and he's like, yeah
10:43And then I wouldn't take off my mask like I never he was like giving me a hard time
10:47Then I took the mask off and he's still giving me a hard time. I didn't really figure that out
10:50Yeah, so but you're not playing this Halloween. So well, you know what? We normally do we either did like, you know
10:55Those blue sets at your place
10:58Or like last year we did Irvine this year. We're just hanging out. We've been on the road too long. We just wanted to relax
11:04You know and kick back now the one thing about about your shows is you've got a real strong fan base
11:10I mean you see on this show
11:12We've traveled everywhere almost in the world and you always see dancing t-shirts everywhere
11:16And as evident when we played in Germany last year, there were tons of people there. I mean
11:22Are you gonna be going out on the road at any time? Are you gonna wait to do a new record now?
11:26Yeah, we're gonna wait till till the summer
11:29Because like I said, we're fried. We've been on the road
11:33We're fried we've been on the road pretty much for like the places that you just got back from
11:38We just come back from the Pacific. We did New Zealand, Australia
11:42Japan Hawaii and before that we went and did all of America and Canada again
11:46I mean, you know and then we even went to Europe for two weeks or whatever again
11:51It's like the dancing fans in let's say New Zealand or Japan much different than the dancing fans
11:56Like we ran in America and Germany. It seemed like they were pretty much the same kind, you know, maybe just a little
12:01They were pretty crazy in New Zealand. I have to say that and Tokyo was you know, I was here all you think
12:08Expecting the kids to just be sitting there and you know at the end of the song clapping and Tokyo was wild
12:14Really? Yeah, it was pretty violent too. And so was a New Zealand was great. Uh-huh. New Zealand was yeah
12:21Very cool. Well
12:23Right. Now we're gonna playing a video from Glenn. Why don't you tell us the video we're playing? What are you playing?
12:27It's coming down. No, we're not a video where they stitch up a guy's mouth and then this guy
12:31Oh, we couldn't play that one
12:34Understand why instead bang it in we're gonna play if somebody wants to see that video. How can they see it this way?
12:40American and bug them put it this way the video for it's coming down. It makes the Jim Rose sideshow look like
12:48Disney you see the NPT people and walk on a leash some of these things on their elbows and knees
12:54There's so much stuff. We can't even talk about it. Here's her black wings
12:57Nobody's seen this for a hundred years
