00:00It's pretty simple, and it really has nothing to do with wins and losses.
00:02Some people might choose to answer it that way and feel free.
00:05It's got something.
00:05I don't think it does.
00:06I think if they if the young guys play well and we'll start with Drake May,
00:11I know he's not starting week one at some point.
00:13We are going to see him, I truly believe.
00:15And as long as he plays a little bit better than Bryce Young,
00:18I think I'll be in good shape.
00:19I'm not asking for CJ Stroud.
00:20Wow.
00:21I don't even need that much.
00:22I don't need him to be like amazing because I know it's pretty limited around him.
00:26Bryce Young was not amazing.
00:27He was not.
00:27No, he needs to be better.
00:29So I'm not just saying, hey, you need to go out there and take a snap.
00:31Like, I'm not going to be Dan Orlowski and be like,
00:33look at what he handed the ball off.
00:34Look how smooth that was.
00:36I want him to play.
00:36I want him to play well.
00:37But I also think setting a CJ Stroud, Justin Herbert level is too high.
00:43It's too much.
00:44And you can still come back and be better in the second year,
00:46even if that's not what you do as a rookie.
00:48So I want to see Drake May sooner rather than later.
00:51And you want to see him be competent.
00:54Maybe as important, because we don't know when we're going to see him,
00:57is the rookies.
00:59The wide receivers, I should say.
01:00Polk and Baker.
01:02The Patriots have chosen as an organization,
01:04whether it be Bill or Elliott Wolfe or Robert Kraft,
01:06to not pay top end for wide receivers.
01:10You've seen guys left, right, and center sign massive, massive contracts.
01:14And they are not partaking in that.
01:16So how do you find a blue chip elite wide receiver?
01:21I guess you have to draft them.
01:22If you're not going to sign them, you're not
01:23going to make a big trade for them.
01:25You have to draft them.
01:26And do we at least see enough flashes from Polk and Baker?
01:29Does Baker even make it through the year?
01:31I mean, we didn't talk a lot about his Instagram thing yesterday.
01:34But it doesn't seem great, right?
01:35Like his reaction to being drafted, which I was a fan of.
01:39But it already got people kind of like, OK, what about this guy?
01:41That to me was harmless.
01:42I think so.
01:43But maybe it's also a little bit of a keep an eye on.
01:46Indication he's got no filter.
01:48And he doesn't think before he speaks.
01:50And I think he has a much better chance of surviving here under Mayo
01:54than he would have under Belichick.
01:56Not that Belichick wouldn't have taken him.
01:57I think that's sort of a misnomer.
01:58Look at all the characters that Bill Belichick brought in.
02:00Like a ton of guys.
02:01Tons.
02:01Tons of guys.
02:02And so he might have drafted Baker because it
02:04was good value in the fourth round.
02:06But what kind of player is he going to be?
02:08He's already been disciplined by the team before the first game.
02:11Right?
02:12And you know me.
02:12I like these guys.
02:13Give me as many knuckleheads as possible and figure it out.
02:15Give me the talented guys.
02:16But that's not a great start.
02:19But I think Polk, Baker, I'd add Pop Douglas to the list
02:23as a second year guy.
02:25To me, really about the young guys.
02:27At the end of the year, whether it's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 wins.
02:31But at least if they're, you know, the arrow is up on them
02:34and we go into next offseason being like, well,
02:36quarterback's not a need.
02:38Wide receiver one's not a need.
02:39Wide receiver two's not a need.
02:41Then I would look at that as a real big time success.
