00:00Jones and Keefe were joined now by Patriots captain and defensive lineman Dietrich Wise.
00:04He joins us here presented by Shaw's and Star Market, perfecting the art of fresh. Dietrich, how are we doing this week?
00:12Wonderful, how are you doing today? We're doing great. We're curious, was Seattle coming to town for the home opener?
00:17Malcolm Butler is going to be in the building, keeper of the light, ringing the bell.
00:21What do you expect the atmosphere to be like for the home opener against the Seahawks?
00:25I think it's going to be electrifying.
00:27Everybody's excited after the first win.
00:30Fans are talking, the city's buzzing. Everybody's going to come out to see us do our thing.
00:34They have Malcolm Butler at the top of the White House
00:38hyping the crowd up, so you know everybody's going to be
00:42primed, excited, cheering on their feet for at least an hour before everything else happens.
00:47Yeah, for sure. What can you tell us about playing alongside Keon White? Because a lot was brought up about, oh, you know,
00:53Barmore, unfortunately, is out for the year. Matt Judon traded away. What's this Patriots defensive front with yourself?
01:00What's it going to look like? And week one, Keon White, two and a half sacks and looked like an absolute monster.
01:06Yeah, that's what he's been doing the last year.
01:10Just, you know, the ball was releasing before he was getting there. So we're finally seeing it. As we said, doing training camp,
01:16he's definitely a great player, and I was looking forward to seeing what he was going to do.
01:21This first game, he showed out and showed up.
01:24So this one looks for him to continue that throughout the whole season and
01:29tell the world who he is.
01:30We've heard players say things like they would run through a brick wall.
01:34For Gerard Mayo, as one of the lines about him, what is it about Mayo that is getting you guys to buy in?
01:43You know, he's a great leader, a motivator,
01:47knows how to get the best out of guys, pull guys to the side, talk to them,
01:51hype guys up when they make great plays.
01:54He knows how to build the camaraderie of the team, the morale of the team.
02:00He's just the type of guy that a lot of people just,
02:03not so much that they make you feel good, but he makes you feel
02:08like he's the guy that you want to go to war behind, you know.
02:13He's that Marcus Aurelius out there on the field,
02:16selling the dirt, leading the charge, you know.
02:19And I know he's not playing no more, but he's definitely on the sideline leading us.
02:23Marcus Aurelius, are you in for Gladiator 2 coming up in a couple months?
02:28You know, hey, that would be something else.
02:31Looks good. Looks real good.
02:33What can you tell us about the Seattle offense?
02:36You know, we're kind of breaking them down.
02:37Obviously, DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, they got big name wide receivers.
02:40Gino Smith has really turned his career around,
02:43has looked good the last couple of years.
02:44But what do you see when you guys are watching them on film?
02:48Yeah, yeah, you said it, man.
02:51So I saw it with the receivers.
02:52They're doing a great job so far.
02:55Great skilled players.
02:57They know how to get open, catch the ball, do their thing fast.
03:00Walker, fast. Great running back.
03:02I think he's underrepresented in that league.
03:06It's one of the good running backs.
03:07So I know he's going to come out there to prove himself.
03:11Gino, once again, doing his thing.
03:15I know he's off the ground, but he's been looking good the last two years.
03:18And he came out using his legs, throwing the ball.
03:21You can tell he's leading the offense the right way.
03:23So we definitely have a challenge on our hands that we're looking to face.
03:28Patriots Friday here on WEEI.
03:30We're joined by Patriots captain Dietrich Wise.
03:32I don't know if you were able to stay up for the Thursday night game last night.
03:35We just talked to Alex Van Pelt.
03:36He said those are tough for you guys.
03:38But I'm sure you've seen the highlights in the story by now.
03:41Any thoughts on Tua leaving that game?
03:43It was obviously a scary situation last night.
03:46Yes, it is a very scary situation.
03:50You never want that to happen to anybody,
03:53whether you know him or you don't know him, whether you're playing against him,
03:56whether you don't like him.
03:58You never want those things to happen to him.
04:04I was definitely praying for his family,
04:06making sure him and his family is in good spirits and everything.
04:09And I don't really know what his future holds,
04:12but I pray for his health alongside with that.
04:16So you just never want to see it.
04:18Definitely, it happened during the biggest game he's had so far.
04:24You know, those type of things that he started to kind of like
04:29wish the best for him, like, hey, man, you know,
04:32if you ever had a chance to talk to anyone, you know,
04:34just tell me how you feel.
04:35And you know that football is only a short time in life,
04:38but your life is a lot longer.
04:40So I pray he definitely heals and we'll see what happens next.
04:46You know, Dietrich, we talk with Hunter Henry every Monday.
04:49And obviously, you guys are teammates now.
04:50You are also teammates back at Arkansas.
04:52You're both seasoned vets now in the NFL.
04:55But I'm curious, what was a college age Hunter Henry like as a teammate?
05:00Oh, college Hunter, pretty much the same as Hunter is now.
05:07Very excited, very motivated to go out there and play ball with his boys.
05:13Loves to have fun in the locker room.
05:15Loves to have fun with his family, with his friends, family man.
05:19Left it behind on the field.
05:20So he's pretty much been the same person that he was in college.
05:26Big hunt dog.
05:27Big hunt dog.
05:28Big hunt dog.
05:29All right.
05:30Maybe we'll leave it at that.
05:31We'll roll that out on Monday.
05:33Big hunt dog there.
05:34Dietrich, I'm curious, and Jarrod Mayo effectively confirmed this today.
05:38We just talked to Alex Van Pelt.
05:39Drake May getting quite a few reps in practice against the top defense with the starters.
05:46What have those reps been like seeing him more than the traditional backup?
05:51And what is it like facing off against him in some of these practices?
05:55You know, it's always good to see the growth of any player that you go against.
05:59Drake has definitely shown growth in that field.
06:02Able to make good completions in practice, give us good looks week in and week out.
06:09So with him playing against the ones, it's going to make him better and also make us better as well.
06:15All right.
06:16Dietrich Wise, Patriots captain, defensive lineman, Patriots home opener this Sunday against the Seahawks at Gillette.
06:22We appreciate the time.
06:23We'll talk to you down the line.
06:26Dietrich Wise joining us here.
06:29The big hunt dog.
06:30Big hunt dog.
06:31Woof, woof, woof.
06:32That's right.
06:33So we'll have to—
06:34A couple of hawks.
06:35We're talking a couple of hawks, a couple of Razorbacks.
06:36A couple of howls.
06:37Yep.
