00:00We are joined now by Hunter Henry of the New England Patriots. He's brought to you by Shaw's
00:04and Star Market, perfecting the art of fresh. Hunter Henry, how are we doing?
00:09Hey guys, doing good.
00:10What did you get to do with the time off this weekend? Anything good?
00:14Yeah, I actually ran out. I got out of town with my family, with the kids,
00:18and my wife. We ran up to Vermont, actually.
00:21Oh, wow!
00:22Day in and day out. Day and a half.
00:24Where about, you don't think...
00:25Quick one.
00:26Oh, I'm sorry. I'm from Vermont, so not to jump all over you.
00:29I got too excited.
00:30Yeah, where'd you go? You don't have to give up any big secrets, but where'd you go?
00:34We went to Stowe.
00:35Oh, lovely.
00:36So, my wife's been wanting to do that for four years, ever since we moved here.
00:42So, she finally decoupled us on the opportunity.
00:46How was the foilage?
00:48Yeah, it was nice. Yeah, it was kind of in the beginning, but it was nice.
00:52It was pretty up there, so it was a good weekend.
00:55Keith and I have talked about the leaf peeping. You kind of go, that's a red one.
00:58There's a yellow one.
00:59Not much there.
01:00Orange. Kind of gets old quick.
01:02Get away for a little bit, though.
01:05Yeah, absolutely.
01:07How is it going back to work today?
01:09You got to lick the wounds after Thursday night. How's that?
01:12Yeah, I mean, it's tough, obviously.
01:15It's not the way we wanted to play at all.
01:19It was a frustrating game and just didn't match,
01:24come out and match the energy that we needed to have come Thursday night.
01:28It was just all around a tough game in every aspect,
01:31and it's something, as somebody that's played a lot,
01:35every once in a while, you have to have it.
01:37You just got to turn the page.
01:38You got to learn from it.
01:39You got to bring some energy.
01:40You got to be ready to go next week,
01:41because they'll be ready to come this weekend.
01:44Yeah, is that something that, especially now, as you've been in the league longer,
01:48do you look to some of the young guys like,
01:50hey, it's one game.
01:51Obviously, you need to learn from it,
01:52but you don't want to beat yourself up over it.
01:54You don't want to watch it a million times.
01:56I feel like that could almost be a negative
01:58to sort of dwell on a game like that too much.
02:01Yeah, you can't dwell on it too much,
02:02but there's a lot to learn from it too.
02:05We did meet the challenge.
02:06We did step up in a lot of ways too,
02:09so you got to learn from it too.
02:11But yeah, you can't dwell too much on it
02:13because we got another team coming this weekend,
02:15and you got to be ready to go.
02:17Just quickly before moving on from that one,
02:19I mean, the Jets were all over you,
02:21all over Percet really in that game.
02:23I heard him say after the game,
02:25something to the effect of it was like,
02:26the Jets had all the answers defensively.
02:30Why were they, I guess, so locked in
02:34and so locked in on what you guys were doing,
02:36and how do you correct that specifically going forward
02:39against a team like San Francisco?
02:41Yeah, they were just, obviously,
02:43they had some really timely sacks,
02:45timely pressures.
02:47We're able to kind of get a soft balance.
02:50There was some drives when you really watch it.
02:52We were able to kind of,
02:53you know, after the first two drives,
02:56we were able to kind of get things going.
02:57There's just a play or two away from,
02:59you know, having a drive, being able to sustain one.
03:01We got to be better on third down.
03:04You know, you got to give credit to them though.
03:06I mean, they came out with a lot of energy.
03:07They were ready to go.
03:08It was their home opener.
03:10You know, big time game.
03:11They played really, really well.
03:12And you got to give credit to them too.
03:14I mean, they played a really, really good game.
03:16They got a lot of great players
03:18like we talked about last week.
03:19I mean, so they played a great game.
03:22We got to learn from it.
03:24What did you think of Drake May's debut?
03:27And, you know, also just from being in the huddle with him,
03:29what was his kind of, you know,
03:31composure level and things like that?
03:34Yeah, he was great.
03:36Obviously a tough spot to go in at the end,
03:37but it was a good experience for him.
03:40Felt like he handled it well.
03:42When you look at that operation at the tail end of the game,
03:45I know it sounds like Jacoby Brissett will get the start.
03:48Is that the kind of guy you feel like,
03:50you know, you'd have confidence in
03:52if and when he's ready to start a game?
03:56In Jacoby?
03:57No, I'm sorry.
03:58In Drake.
03:58The way he played on that final drive.
04:00Does that give you confidence
04:01for whenever he'd be under center?
04:03I mean, yeah.
04:04I mean, Drake's a very talented player.
04:06So obviously he didn't go that high for no reason.
04:10So he's a great player and he's learning a lot.
04:13And I think that was a very, you know,
04:15a lot of valuable experience
04:16just being able to get out there and get in the mix.
04:18What can you tell us, if anything, about San Francisco?
04:20Is that something you guys have even started?
04:22Is it still just kind of looking back on the Jets?
04:25Or are you on to that Niners defense?
04:28Yeah, we've kind of a little bit, but not a ton.
04:31You know, you don't want to do too much,
04:33but just a little bit, you know, just a little bit.
04:36But I mean, obviously everybody knows
04:38they're a good football team.
04:40Been a really good football team for years.
04:43You know, went to the Super Bowl last year.
04:44Got a ton of great football players.
04:48And a lot of guys have played together for a while too.
04:51So, and they've played a lot of big games
04:53and played a lot together.
04:55I mean, they're disruptive.
04:58It's going to be a tough challenge,
04:59especially going out there and playing on the West Coast.
05:02So we'll have to be ready to go.
05:03So Razorback's got a good win over Auburn on Saturday.
05:07And now you have this murderer's row
05:09of the rest of the schedule,
05:10including A&M and Tennessee the next couple of weeks.
05:15Yeah, we're not scaring anybody, man.
05:16Come on now.
05:18That's part of the SEC, man.
05:20You know what I mean?
05:21This is what it is, man.
05:23This is what you sign up for every year
05:24when you play in the SEC.
05:25So came back down from it.
05:28But you got to start with this week.
05:29I think we play, I think we play A&M this week, yeah.
05:32Yeah, A&M and then Tennessee.
05:33Will you have a bet with Mayo?
05:35Because Brissette had one with Tennessee and NC State.
05:39So I know Tennessee's pretty great.
05:40We'll see how this weekend goes first.
05:43And then let's not get ahead of ourselves, man.
05:45You know what I mean?
05:46Let's start with a one-on-one mentality.
05:48We're 1-0 in the SEC right now.
05:50So we're doing all right.
05:52We're doing all right.
05:52We're moving in the right direction.
05:54I'd be looking to duck Mayo on that Tennessee team, too.
05:58They look good.
05:58I'm curious, the tight end U is a thing throughout the NFL.
06:02I don't know if Kittle's going to play this week,
06:04but is that a guy you specifically
06:05seek out when you match up?
06:08Of course, all the tight ends on every team
06:11I try to chat with and just keep up with, man.
06:15It's a cool event that they've been able to do.
06:17I actually haven't been able to make it
06:18since the inaugural a couple years ago.
06:21But yeah, Kittle's a great dude.
06:23I mean, he's been great to be able to put all that stuff
06:28together with National Tight End Day
06:30and bring a lot of just awareness
06:31to a lot of good tight ends across the league.
06:33I mean, there's so many.
06:34So it's fun to keep up with guys
06:36and just watch them from afar.
06:37And then also when you compete against each other
06:40in a way on Sunday.
06:41Okay, he's Hunter Henry, Patriots tight end.
06:43Joins us on Patriots Monday here on WEEI.
06:45Hunter, we appreciate the time.
06:46Best of luck this week.
06:48All right, guys, appreciate it.
06:49Thanks, Hunter.
06:49Hunter Henry brought to you by Shaw's and Star Market,
06:52perfecting the art of fresh.
06:54Hasn't been there since the inaugural tight end U.
06:57Tight end U?
06:57I guess I didn't realize that.
06:58Yeah, you know what's funny?
07:00It's early in the season, but it does seem like,
07:02and I know this is very like a fantasy football thing.
07:04They're down.
07:04No, across the board.
07:05It's a down position, yeah.
07:07And I think part of that is Kittle's banged up
07:09and Travis Kelsey's washed.
07:11So that combination might be washed.
07:13It's kind of tough because Henry had one of the best weeks
07:16in week two when he kind of popped off.
07:18I know Dallas Goddard had a ton of yards yesterday.
07:20He had a great game, but the touchdowns are down.
07:23I was looking this up.
07:24I don't think any tight end has two touchdowns yet this year.
07:28You know, no one's gotten in the end zone more than once.
07:30Yeah.
07:31I mean, likely almost did week one against Kittle pits.
07:34Likely Cole commit.
07:35So there's a few guys have scored once.
07:37But yeah, overall, it seemed like we were about.
07:39We were entering a boom where every team had a big time pass
07:43catching tight end.
07:44And now it's kind of dipped a little bit.
07:45Yeah.
07:46We'll see.
