00:00In an ideal world, media practitioners should be allowed to do their jobs in peace,

00:05safe from bullying and intimidation.

00:08Unfortunately, that is not how several media personnel in Davao feel in terms of how the KOJC members treat them,

00:16prompting some of them to write a letter to the group's legal counsel to air their grievances.

00:22Benji Durango tells us more.

00:25A media group pushed back against the harassment they have been receiving from members of KOJC, led by Apollo Kibuloy.

00:33A letter sent by Edith Caduaya to attorney Israelito Torjon, the lawyer of KOJC.

00:38She expressed sadness over the alleged humiliation, threats and intimidation experienced by the media in their coverage of events

00:46in and out of the KOJC compound or in KOJC press conferences.

00:51Rhoda Grace from Mindanao Times experienced bullying on the very first day of the standoff.

01:09Yesterday, it happened again. After Torjon's press conference, he invited the media to enter the compound.

01:14Church members recording videos were also present.

01:31However, our microphone captured the words, come in media, come in,

01:35as if they wanted the media to break through and breach the police line.

01:39For the president of the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps,

01:42the KOJC's move to put the media in harm's way, which could lead to their arrest, is wrong.

01:47We, the media, are the ones who are going to put them in harm's way.

01:50I don't think it's right. What if we are the ones who are going to be bullied,

01:54if we are going to be harassed by the police?

01:56It's not okay for us.

01:58The letter has reportedly breached Torjon.

02:01However, unlike before, when KOJC begged for forgiveness,

02:04now their group can no longer guarantee the safety of the media

02:08due to the growing rage of members over disheartening and demoralizing news reports.

02:13In the first place, we could not guarantee your safety because that is the job of the police.

02:17No, that's not the job of KOJC.

02:19The Davao police are on standby to assist.

02:22They advise the media to approach them if the situation escalates into violence

02:26or if human rights are violated by the bullies.

02:29Safety first, sir.

02:30And then, if there are violations that have been committed,

02:33go to the nearest police station so that you can file a complaint.

02:38The situation outside the KOJC compound remained peaceful throughout the day

02:42while police operations continued inside.

02:44The KOJC faithful is busy preparing for Friday

02:47when senators are expected to pay a visit for the first day

02:50of their investigation regarding the police search for Apollo Quibuloy, et al.,

02:55believed to be hiding somewhere in the vast compound.
