00:00By any yardstick or measure, today's kickoff for the filing of the forms of candidacy of all wannabe
00:05newbie and repeat lawmakers went well without a major hitch or snag. Re-electionist senators,
00:11congressmen seeking higher office, and those seeking grassroots posts
00:14showed up to sign up and officially seal their intent to run for next year's midterm polls.
00:19Our Joshua Garcia provides us with more details.
00:23The first day of filing the certificate of candidacy or COC for the 2025 national
00:30and local elections was by all means a success. According to Kamalec chairman
00:34attorney George Garcia, they did not receive any reports from their nationwide monitoring
00:39of any untoward incident that could have delayed the filing of candidacies.
00:52Several party-list groups and independent candidates filed their candidacies for
01:05Samplor, including the Kamangagawa Party List led by social media content creator advocating for
01:10the abolition of provincial wage rate and wage increases for workers. Some candidates have prior
01:16experiences in local government and are now running for national office. Common platform
01:21priorities include solving traffic issues, addressing climate change, raising wages,
01:25and resolving disputes in the West Philippine Sea. Notable figures like former AgriPartylist
01:30representative Wilbert Lee also filed his COC along with others who showed up early to submit
01:35their certificates of candidacy. Next is re-electionist Senator Francis Tolentino,
02:02who promised to continue the initiatives he started during his term if he wins again.
02:32The ACT-CIS party list also filed their COC that afternoon but did not deliver a speech on stage.
02:42According to Commission on Elections or Kamalec, more than 40 of the party-list groups have been
02:47removed from the list for failing to secure votes in two consecutive elections in accordance with
02:51Kamalec Resolution Number 11071. Meanwhile, a total of 18,280 positions is up for grabs.
02:59The Kamalec also confirmed a Supreme Court ruling that appointive officials
03:03running as nominees of party lists are deemed resigned following the issuance
03:08of a temporary restraining order against the Kamalec Resolution on this matter.
03:12They are deemed resigned upon the filing of the Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance.
03:29The Kamalec will conduct hearings on nuisance candidates with the NBANG assuring that lack
03:38of popularity or funding will never be a reason to disallow someone from running in the upcoming
03:43elections. In total, 30 candidates filed their COC today, including 17 aspiring senators and 15 from
03:50party lists. The Commission reminded candidates that five copies of their filled-out COCs are
03:55required, which will go through a pre-evaluation stage before being officially accepted by the
03:59Kamalec once everything is in order. The Kamalec expects more candidates, including well-known
04:04personalities, to file their COCs in the coming days. Joshua Garcia, from the National TV Network,
