00:00Hi there. The UK's weather is in a particularly turbulent mood at the moment.
00:06Wind and rain for many through the rest of the day, followed by a plunge in temperature.
00:12What we've got is a cold front moving south, that's bringing an area of cloud and outbreaks of rain
00:17around the middle of the afternoon through mid Wales, south Wales, parts of the Midlands.
00:21To the south of that, some patchy cloud and rain.
00:24To the north of that, much brighter skies, some sunny spells for north Wales, northern England,
00:28and Northern Ireland, but also frequent blustery showers.
00:31And the wind picking up strength through the day could cause some issues for north-east Scotland,
00:35particularly on some of the roads, like the A90 for example, and of course the ferry crossings, bridges and so on.
00:4250-60 mph wind gusts through the rest of the day, along with some heavy rain for Orkney and Shetland.
00:48Shetland could see 60-80 mm of rain accumulating.
00:52So, yellow wind and rain warnings in force. Check the latest details on the Met Office app and website.
00:58Now, by the afternoon, or at least by the end of the afternoon, the cloud and rain is across southern parts,
01:03feeling a lot cooler compared with yesterday.
01:05Because of that, 16-18°C and cold winds are starting to arrive in the north, 12-13°C at best for much of Scotland.
01:15But it's going to get colder as those winds from the Arctic set in across much of the UK,
01:20clearing the rain south through the evening.
01:22Clearer skies for many, and lengthy clear spells at that for the south and the east.
01:26But frequent showers continue to roll into the north and north-west of the UK.
01:32Those showers merging to longer spells of rain for north-west England, parts of northern and western Scotland, for example.
01:36But the more persistent wet weather and the strongest of the winds do tend to ease from the far north-east of Scotland.
01:42Nevertheless, it's a cold night. Temperatures widely in the single figures and in some spots mid-single figures,
01:48or even a touch lower.
01:50And the reason for that is a wind direction straight from the Arctic, a long fetch coming in from the north,
01:58and unusually cold conditions for Wednesday and Thursday across the UK.
02:03So we start off Wednesday with a fresh feel, certainly, but plenty of sunshine for the south and the east.
02:09Bright skies, but a lot of clouds developing and a lot of showers coming in.
02:15Most places will see a shower at least or two, but some places will be prone to an awful lot of showers,
02:22especially the north and west of Scotland, northern Ireland, north-west England, north Wales.
02:26Further south with some shelter and, well, I'd say a lot further for those showers to form and to move.
02:35The south coast will be mostly dry, just the odd passing shower later in the day here.
02:40Otherwise, some decent sunny spells.
02:42However, wherever you are, it's going to feel cold.
02:4515 or 16 Celsius at best in the south, 11 to 13 at best in the north,
02:51and in some places temperatures staying in the single figures throughout the day.
02:55It's cold enough, in fact, for some flakes of snow over the tops of the Scottish mountains,
03:00a centimetre or so falling but unsettling, but nothing particularly worrisome at lower levels.
03:07It is, of course, only the beginning of September.
03:10It won't feel like the beginning of September, though,
03:12because of the clear skies and the widespread chill as we start off Thursday.
03:19A touch of frost in places even.

03:23Bye-bye.
