In 1999, at the age of four, she and another girl, also named Mabinty (later called Mia), were adopted by Elaine and Charles DePrince, a Jewish couple from Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and brought to the United States. The DePrinces have 11 children, including Michaela, nine of whom are adopted. His death, at the age of 29, was announced on September 13, 2024 via his Instagram.
