00:00Why do we eat food? We eat food because we need energy for our daily activities
00:10like thinking, walking, sleeping, playing, or doing any kind of work. We need energy.
00:25We need energy to grow up. All living things, plants and animals, need energy to
00:38grow up and they get that energy from the food they eat. Do you know how plants
00:48get energy to grow up? Plants get energy from the water, sunlight, and soil. Every
00:59change like melting of ice, freezing of water, blowing of air, drying up clothes.
01:11Just every change, every activity requires energy. Now let's see where this energy comes
01:21from or let's learn about the different sources of energy. If we switch on the fan, it starts
01:32running. From where does it get energy? It is running because of electrical energy. If
01:43we heat water, it starts boiling. Because of heat energy, vehicles or cars, bikes, they
01:55get energy from fuel like petrol or diesel. Microwaves get energy from electricity to cook
02:09and heat food. We run a bicycle using our muscular energy. Our clothes are dried up either using the
02:23heat energy from the sun or wind or we dry them up in machines using the electrical energy. So
02:35every change from our doing work, our playing, our sleeping, our thinking, or any physical change
02:47like melting of ice, drying up of clothes, running a fan, all requires energy. One or the other form
03:01of energy. Now let's answer some questions. Where do you think the cow gets energy from? The cow
03:13will get energy from the food she eats. A kite flies high in the sky. Where do you think it's
03:23getting energy from? It's getting energy from the wind. A toaster. Where do you think it's
03:35getting energy from? It's getting energy from electrical energy. This is a car. What does it
03:47need to run or what is the source of energy for it? Fuel. Yes, fuel is the energy for cars. Now
04:03here four activities are shown. Which of the following activity does not need energy? Let's
04:13figure it out. First one, boys are playing. They definitely need energy for playing and they need
04:25food for that. Second one is a running fan. Definitely it needs some energy and it needs
04:38electrical energy. Third one is a book lying on the table. Do you think it needs some energy to
04:48lie on the table? No, a book doesn't require any energy to lie on the table. So this is the answer.
05:00The fourth one is a boy reading a book. Definitely the boy needs energy to read the book. So our
05:12answer is option C. Kids, do you know what is the principal source of energy? Principal source of
05:23energy is the Sun. That is all different sources of energy that we learned. Derives energy directly
05:35or indirectly from the Sun. So the Sun is a principal source of energy for all sources of
05:46energy and we will learn how it is in our next grades. So kids, today we learned a lot about energy.
