00:00I think the shine's come off a little bit, like last week we were all very complimentary,
00:04and rightfully so.
00:05He had a great week.
00:06The team, again, was well-conditioned and out-executed and looked out-prepared and more
00:11motivated to be out there.
00:12The Bengals weren't motivated a week ago, and I think you saw some of that if you watched
00:16the 4 o'clock game against Kansas City.
00:18Bengals look like a different team, probably because they took the Patriots lightly and
00:21weren't ready to go.
00:22They still lost, but they look much better and more cohesive this week.
00:26I think that shine's come off with Mayo a little bit, and I also think there's an ongoing
00:32conflict between Mayo and Alex Van Pelt, is what I think.
00:36I thought it was subtle last week.
00:39Van Pelt had the story about, well, there wasn't as much on the call sheet, and I wanted
00:43more on the call sheet.
00:44Then we asked him about that on Friday.
00:46The coordinators joined Jones and Keefe every week.
00:48We're going to talk to DeMarcus Covington on Friday this week.
00:51Van Pelt was like, oh, I wanted more on the call sheet.
00:53I wonder if that was a Mayo thing getting in the way.
00:56Now Mayo is saying, oh, we've got to open it up in the passing game.
01:00We've got to get the receivers involved.
01:02We've got to take more deep shots.
01:04I think those are all criticisms, not of Brissette.
01:08I think those are criticisms of Van Pelt, I think.
01:10Yeah, maybe Van Pelt.
01:11Maybe also the offensive line.
01:12I think it also kind of circles back to them, and if they don't think they can protect it,
01:15Mayo might say, hey, maybe mix in a few passes further than 10 yards down the field.
01:21Somebody posted the passing chart yesterday.
01:23What was it?
01:24Four passes, I think, went over 10 yards down the field.
01:28Maybe.
01:29Yeah.
01:30I mean, total, incomplete or complete.
01:31Van Pelt's probably thinking, well, I can do that, but he's going to get killed or he's
01:35going to be running for his life.
01:37They need to figure out a little bit, because on the one hand, Mayo has said, we're going
01:40to run the ball.
01:41We're going to tell you we're going to run the ball, and we're a running team.
01:44I think Van Pelt has said they're a running team.
01:46They want all that stuff.
01:48But then as soon as you lose, you're like, well, we've got to be able to throw it.
01:51We've got to be able to throw it.
01:52Well, and they've also said they have the answers.
01:53Well, yeah.
01:54If you stop the run, we have the answers.
01:55You don't.
01:56They don't.
01:57No, they don't.
01:58They clearly don't.
01:59They didn't have the answers.
02:00And also, I think this is an example where if I had told you ahead of time, they won't
02:02turn it over and they run as a team for 185 yards.
02:05I would have felt good about it.
02:06That's a win.
02:07Yeah.
02:08That's definitely a win.
02:09And so now, if you can still lose that, now that points to defense and the whole team
02:13game and special teams completely buttoned up and all that stuff.
02:18But that, I think, normally would have been a formula.
02:21But then when you're saying, all right, you have the ball, tie game, fourth quarter, you
02:25have the ball up three, trying to put pressure on, like, what can you do?
02:27What can you run?
02:28And it's, well, we can run the ball into the line of scrimmage and then we can throw it
02:32to Hunter Henry.
02:33Like, that's all you really have right now.
