00:00The Philippine Dragon Boat Team is getting ready for the 2024 ICF Dragon Boat World Championships in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

00:09This is the story of Daryl O'Claris.

00:14For the first time in the Philippines, ICF Dragon Boat World Championships will be held

00:21from October 28 to November 4 in Puerto Princesa, City, Palawan.

00:27The Philippine Dragon Boat Team will not be left behind in this event

00:32as they will once again compete against the best Dragon Boat Race Teams in the world.

00:37In 2018, in Gainesville, Georgia, they won the cup as the overall champion in the world stage

00:45after winning five gold and two silver medals.

00:49So before they continue their preparations,

00:53let's first visit the Rise and Shine Philippines this morning

00:57with some of the members of the team, OJ Fuentes, Edmond Catapang, Nelson Cordova, and Rogelio De Borja.

01:05As of now, we are prepared already.

01:07Oh, you're already prepared?

01:08We are ready for the upcoming competition.

01:13We are just waiting for the day when we will be able to play.

01:18It's a big pressure for us because we are the host country.

01:23The Philippines is the host country so this is a big challenge for us.

01:28So we need to prove it because we are world champions in other countries,

01:32especially here in the Philippines.

01:34So we need to prove that we are the strongest.

01:39Fuentes, who is also a veteran paddler,

01:42is a big thing for the country to host the prestigious Dragon Boat Tournament.

01:47Actually, this is the first time for the Philippines to host the Dragon Boat Tournament.

01:53It's also the first time for the whole of Asia.

01:55So this is a big event and of course,

01:58it helps our environment so that we can maintain cleanliness and unity.

02:05Especially our sport is a team.

02:08The Philippine Kano Kayak Dragon Boat Federation will be responsible for hosting the World Championship

02:14and will be hosted by PCKDF President Leonora Esculiante.
