00:00In Rocket Sports, we have a new mission today.
00:03We will interview one of the top Pinoy squash players, Robert Garcia,
00:08after representing the country for a few years in the local and international stage.
00:13That is Paolo, thank you.
00:172019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Robert Garcia is considering a lot of things
00:23to stop being a professional squash player and enter the world of coaching.
00:28Aside from his age of 38, it is a big factor for him to make a decision to accept coaching offers abroad.
00:40Robert Garcia, unfortunately, will be coaching in China.
00:44He has decided to leave the national team.
00:49If I didn't have injuries, I wouldn't have decided to play,
00:52but all of our efforts will pay off.
01:00Aside from this medal that Garcia won in the 2019 SEA Games,
01:04he also won several local and international competitions,
01:08including major competitions like the Asian Games,
01:11PSA World Tour, and Asian Individual Squash Championships.
01:15Despite the plans to focus on becoming a coach,
01:18Garcia made it clear that he will not completely turn his back on representing the country in important competitions.
01:26We still have a long way to go in the country.
01:28I will coach there, I will stay there, I will train there.
01:30I will look for a sparring partner if possible.
01:33But I am still here as a national team, national athlete.
01:37Yeah, he won't be in the national team, but I can always pull him in for major events like the SEA Games next year.
01:45Paulo Salamatin for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
